- This week we install our campervan portable toilet, the thetford 335 qube. Its not the original toilet system we had in mind but our thoughts at the moment are that this will be the best solution for us at the moment to be able to have any kind of vanlife uk adventures. A chemical toilet is definitely not the system we would have chosen!! Plus, we continue to try and vlog about all the other boring s*** we are up to during lockdown whilst we are waiting for vanlife to begin, even if its just uk campsites for now.

I did try a Napisan washing powder for my toilet once. Its for babies nappies so it should work okay.

You can use the pods, and you can also get a green liquid to put in the toilet which doesn't contain formaldehyde, it's called elsan organic, it breaks down waist and neutralises odours

I use Bio tablets scrunched to powder from Aldi Yes they work and smell nice.

I'm buying one of these loos for my lil van. I have crohns disease so 😳💩 can I ask what are bio tablets? Is that like washing powder biological tabs?
I didn't realise u can't empty a chemical toilet down a normal loo. Struggling here so any help would be greatly appreciated 😊

and yes you can empty a chemical toilet down a normal toilet. The issue is that if they have a bio tank (not Mains) the usual chemicals they put in will kill the bacteria that breaks down the waste in this type of tank

My husband also said its one of the best van builds he's seen, he said you are so precise, tidy and meticulous. And he also said it looks vantastic, I agree. You need to do these for a living. Hiya, husband here Kev wife Vikki I'm a time served decorator and over the years had to fit electrics,bathrooms,kitchens everything from a hardwood floor to rooftiling and people have commented about me being meticulous even with things that can't be seen, but I know their there so I appreciate your work really nice job we need to find a bus and get cracking and hit the road, once again cracking van and channel carry on and keep bickering it's funny, bye

Just heard that there's a possibility camp sites are only allowing campervans in that have showers and toilets. That's gonna piss a few people off if it's correct.
Some have asked that people bring their own toilet and toilet tent.
Some have said they are opening the shower blocks but with restricted access, some say they aren't opening them at all but you need your own toilet. I don't mind the old flannel strip wash to be fair, I don't think we will really know until the day before and even then it won't be clear lol!!

Thanks matty 😁 that was shot on an osmo pocket, it's a tiny camera with its own gimbal, it has a face track mode, so when I moved my head the camera followed me. Its a handy little camera.

Hi, thank you so much. I think you are supposed to buy special paper if you are going to be using the chemical disposal points. If not, I guess you can just have a little dedicated bin.

ok, so i feel such a weirdo returning to this topic but I have a thetford too ready to install. let me be blunt. is it number ones only, or number twos and if so, what happens when you have a 2-day vodka and Doritos sideways explosion? Surely these things are for normal 1s only and cannot handle the take-away/vodka Hulk strain and dam-breaking reality ?
Hi Simon, so it's quite a controversial topic actually, some only do 1s some only do 2s!! We generally just do 1s but if on a site and can use the proper chemicals will do both. Either way, your screwed when it comes to the take away/vodka predicament lol 😂🤣😂
Simon: I use a Porta-Potti, for wees only. When I want to do No2 I place kitchen towel, 3 or 4 sheets, not toilet paper as it's too thin, into the bowl and then remove the item wrapped up in the kitchen paper, put in a doggybag and then put the bag in the doggy bins you see along the road. That way, you don't get the smell of poo. Wee does not smell as it has the chemical to mask it. Toilet needs emptying every 2/3 weeks or so, with fresh chemical. It goes down any ordinary toilet.
hi louise. i have a question about the running of the crx50. i have a vw autosleeper trident. and want to take out the 3way fridge and replace with the crx50. and run of solar . would i be able to run it of a 100watt panel?. i am limited for space. i have to go with the flexi panel. and try and arch from top of windscreen upwards. Or. i could just about get away with fitting 150watt panel. what do you think? or because it will be arched will i forfeit solar power. ? i should add i do want to be off grid and be in the camper for long periods, appreciate your thoughts. thanks.
Hi Janet, to be honest I don't know about arching the panel. I would guess that a 100w panel may cope with just running the fridge on long sunny days, but when the weather isn't great or the light doesn't last long I think it would struggle. Have you considered a b2b charger or split charge system, so at least if your power is low you could go for a drive to charge up.

Why can't' you put the sewing machine away yourself?
Wouldn’t have any kind of toilet inside a camper van. Even gypsies that live in caravans full time don’t have toilets inside.
