As far as I know, if you plant the spruce saplings on floating dirt, the podzol won't spread. That's what I did in my world. Just had a floating island to grow spruce :)
I'd love to see what else you could possibly do with this world. It looks like there's tons of other armors and structures to go through ^-^ especially the airship in the over world lmao
1:17:43 you actually don't have to reload your world whenever work benches glitch out like this. just try placing another one and the one you placed before will reappear in your hand. either that or you can click on the work bench repeatedly and it should appear in your inventory too. there's easier ways to get it back that don't involve leaving the world and reopening it lol

My personal solution to creeper holes: use junk stone that you don't like and use dirt on the top layer only. Gives more blast resistance for future creeper holes *and* conserves dirt. Win-win!
