Hey Phil you're one of the guys I really look up to in the world of strength and conditioning. Just finished listening to Mark Bells Power project with 2 guys from Functional Patterns. They seem to think their way of training is far superior to everything being done now and had many bold claims. It would be awesome to hear an elite athlete trainer like yourself give your thoughts on the episode. All the best!
I do believe they have some good points but in general the approach to training for a specific goal must be covered in a wider more broad focus. Meaning that just performing movements with the intent to work the “facial system” may not be enough to gain the adequate strength, power, speed, endurance etc. neccessary to be successful for sport. On another note I do believe once we developed a base of general fitness then looking to improve function with more dynamic and in this case broad movement strategies can be beneficial. I don’t like to live in absolutes but I’m open to all training modalities and methods as long as it’s in the right context.
@@PhilDaruStrong Thanks for the detailed response! I believe we can gain benefits from many different training styles and was put off by how they were selling theirs as the best while knocking others. It seems like you have similar beliefs. Keep killing it man!
Coach Daru, I'm an active duty guy about to transition to civilian life in about 3 years. My goal is to open a brick and mortar facility to help those who are novice to sport specific training. I want to train novice people like athletes. Would love some tips / mentorship from you, sir. -Brian
Hello Daru. You might not see this. But I’ve got a question about weight classes in boxing. Does heavyweight boxers train differently compared to other weight classes, let’s say lightweight. Do heavyweight boxers have to focus more on strength training? I’ve always been curious and want to find the answer. I love your contents, I think u produce a very good contents when it comes to weight training in combat sports. Not many channels in RUclips can do like what you do. Love from Thailand
