No clearly he wasn't about to "Turn himself over to the Alliance to be executed." In the moment I misspoke, clearly he was going to try and kill as many Alliance soldiers as possible before dying his warrior's death.
Adolfo Wilson actually he was about to go fight mak' nura (1v1 duel to the death) against the High King to reclaim his honor for Tendrissil... In the middle of the Alliance camp it's still a death sentence, if he wins, he does Sylvanas's dirty work for her, so he plans to lose, BUT WITH HONOR
Notice the parallels between him and Sylvanas? Both were denied death in their own way, the differences are in their morals and their honor. Sylvanas throws a tantrum and has to force everyone else to feel pain, Saurfang on the other hand is still fighting to gain his honorable death just like his son. Both motivated by past events, yet completely different in nature. This is what Blizzard is trying to portray here imo, they are trying to show how some people lose hope, and others can be on the brink of losing it, but still find something to fight for.
Necroxis I mean, I have to admit we may have all misjudged it a bit. Chris Metzen did say in a tweet that we shouldn’t worry and that he believes the story is good. We’ll just have to wait and see, so far in the beta I have loved the story telling, so I’m hopeful.
Excellent catch there. I think that is exactly what they are trying to portray. Christie Golden is the lead story writer now and i have so much hope and confidence in it being a deeper message such as you pointed out!
Saurfang has always been, and will always be the TRUE representation of what it means to be a member of the 'Horde'. "We named him Dranosh. It means "Heart of Draenor"" #SaurfangForWarchief
Just to clarify something before kiddos start any drama: The troll Anduin "explodes" with Shalamayne, is not him. He has different armor and hair color. We can actually see this troll helping saurfang after he charges with the flag and later on behind sylvanas. :)
My favorite reaction to this cinematic. I don't even play Horde and also got emotional during this cinematic. I really hope Saurfang replaces Sylvanas.
I agree. Too many people are confused about why Saurfang decide to fight back, as if he was accepting Sylvanas, but he is not. He is fighting for the innocents within the Horde. I didn't know too much about Saurfang, but he has suddenly become one of my favourite current wow characters.
Saurfang is an old orc soldier, and many people say that he can't be Warchief because he's too old, but should age really be a factor when were talking about honor? Who in the Horde can even come close to matching Saurfang in terms of honor? In truth, there are very few individuals who can even come close. As a member of the Horde, I want nothing more than someone as honorable as Saurfang to lead us.
Saurfang should take Zappy Boi under his wing (Saurfang lost his son, Zappy lost his father) and when he's ready having been mentored in honor and true Horde values he can pass the torch to him. It would be nice to have another shaman as Warchief.
Saurfang deserves the same respect as King Varian Wrynn (R.I.P.) as he is a good warrior, a good man, and the Warchief we all deserve to lead us to Honor, Glory, and Victory and to redeem the reputation of the Horde from, "Savage Murderers" to Good and Honorable people.
There is no hope left for Sylvanas after the burning, but this piece and some of the new information coming out from the novellas at least gives me some hope for the Horde.
Hopefully Saurfang cuts her down and maybe becomes Warchief but I think he doesn't want that at all, he is a warrior not a diplomat. Or hopefully Thrall puts away those robes and puts on his shoulderpads and takes his rightful place as the Warchief.
You know right that if the horde revolt against Sylvanas the forsaken would not be happy. It would feel bad being a undead in a faction that killed your leader.
Many forsaken would want Calia Menethil (sister of Arthas, thought to be dead before Legion) to be their leader instead of Sylvanas. That was talked upon a lot in the latest book Before the Storm. So I do not think many would be angry since also a lot of them don't share the same vision that Sylvanas has for their race, being immortal.
nobody is seeing reference to Thrall and Grommash Hellscream from Warcraft 3 Reing of Chaos at 3:26? Its so hard to not see it and i liked it. Really we need more of these.
Saurfang = God of War (Norse Edition) of Kratos. And Zappyboi = His adopted son. XD Since he said, "BOY!" XD Out of all the cinematics that Blizzard released for BFA this one is the best one.
Oh good god, Saurfang is PISSED!!! Can we just make him Warchief and be done with it already? I feel like that would solve a lot of the Horde's problems
When I was doing the bit of questing on the way to the tree burning, Saurfang says, "Don't grow old." It just hit me in the feels right then, and now this. Gosh.
although im still kinda pissed about blizzard turning sylvanas into garrosh 2.0, im so excited to see how Saurfang can bring the horde back on the right path.
This made me feel so much better (also yay for seeing a troll in one of these movie-grade cinematics allowed to speak and be an actual character). Saurfang for Warchief 2018
He won't be the Warchief. But he will save the soul of the Horde. He will die a warrior's death. In the most heroic way, in the most desperate moment, when everything seems lost. He will save the Alliance, and he will wake up some of the Horde. He will inspire the next Warchief, and he will be remembered by both factions as the orc that, in the darkest moment, saved the lives and souls of everyone.
As a 90 to 95% alliance player and fan I truly hope both Saurfang becomes leader of the horde for the sake of honor and morality, and I hope it is the Horde who strike down the HIGHLY overrated ALWAYS crazy an evil Sylvanas before we do. I think it will make BIFA a better story if the horde itself takes her down.
I thought he was going to challenge someone to a Mak'gora, because he took off his armor before going into the battlefield, but still carried his weapon (so that means he didn't plan to just turn himself in). Anyway, this was an amazing cinematic and I can see why Metzen told the players to not lose hope. I want this to be the new Horde so I can play alts there and not feel as an evil genocidal monster.
"claiming what is mine" A warriors death. Doffing his armor because he did not need it, he had no intention on surviving. He needed peak performance, and armor would only slow down his final stand, his honorable charge into unfathomable odds. Claiming what was due.
Saurfang got reminded what makes HIS Horde so strong, its a family. And I guess here, he realised what it meant to others as well. We kind of know his stance through the beta but by adding zappyboi as a secondary character they gave this cinematic so much heart.
I really wanted Dranosh Saurfang to lead the Horde, and Garry to be the one who died and raised as a undead orc...Oh well, and this was a good cinematic... For the Horde! Lok'tar Ogar!!!
Really doubt they'd kill off Sylvannas, but I can definitely see them having her step down or get beat down to have Saurfang step up to the mantle of Warchief.
All Saurfangs regrets are nothing compared to a single elf - kid, woman, older - burned when he was watching Teldrassil. But I am glad that he finally get it : the horde survives. It doesnt live with honour, it survives. From day one, when Thrall took leadership and run to Kalimdor, to the happy final day when we will wipe it, there was no honour, just surviving. FOR THE ALLIANCE !
I loved this. It showed how he was ready for death. He given up and then Zappyboy teaches the old orc a thing or two about not giving up. I would have liked to see our nightelf captain on the shore by Sylvanas. The story telling was nice. It was on a small scale and made the characters very relatable. .
He could also be getting screen time because they are going to kill him off. They did the same with Varian aswell. I saw all that screen time of my favorite lore character and I feared he would die and that's what happened. I was so sad at Varian's death.
Sylvanas will be Warchief all thru this xpac and into the future... This video just shows Saurfang that he is still a member of the horde and that is his family now, he is no longer part of the honor driven time that has long departed him in the past, and No he was turning himslef over, he was going to die with honor and to guarantee it he removed his armor...
You're so full of shit, they are not going to kill off 3 of their main lore characters, deal with the queen bitch being in charge. Oh and everyone knows someone at blizzard you're a tool.
Such warcraft 3 bives im getting rigth now , and i agree whit you we had more than eboufgh war mongerers and vengence drivers as it is, its about time someone brings back what the horde really is all about: honor, glory, blood and thunder brothers, FOR THE HORDE!!!!!!!!!
Tyroil I think it really can't be stressed that this is the first time they've done a full CGI story cinematic since WC3. They've done opening cinematics for every expansion, short tv spots of characters' glaring into the camera, and even a short teaser trailer for Legion, but this is a full blown CGI cinematic just for narrative. There's a good chance there will be an Alliance equivalent, too.
Necroxis They were going to release this trailer at a later time. But given the negative feedback from players, they had to release it now. People were too upset with Sylvanus's video.
Considering that this happens on the night/morning of the attack on lorderon, they might have planned to release it on monday........you know the night before the attack on lorderon.
This cinematic is Blizzard at their best. In the cinematic Saurfang wants his warriors death so he was about to commit a form of suicide by cop. Saurfang shows you do not have to blindly follow a warchief who acts without honor.
I have a feeling that Thrall might come back angry that the horde and the alliance are letting the planet die.. and he’s going to make some destructive decisions
I doubt this was released early. I think they knew exactly what everyones reaction would be to Sylvanas, otherwise they wouldn't have made this cinematic in the first place. This is all playing out exactly as they wanted. I mean, just look at how much everyone is invested in this story! It's amazing!
I feel like a lot of the journey I had through World of Warcraft has kind of come full circle because the time that I started playing was late TBC but I never hit cap until ulduar patch Wrath of the Lich King and what are the moment that got me interested in lore to begin with was not the wrathgate but the scene where saurfang comes to grab his son's corpse and seeing this Cinematic kind of felt like it came full circle plus after leaving when Garrosh's horde bomb theramore and going to the alliance after that this reminded me of the times when I enjoyed playing horde under thrall.
honestly, i'm just hoping we get to kill Warchief Bitch-Queen this time around, Thrall ganked Garrosh, Vol'Jin was an overall nice guy, so we better get the kill this time around
Necroxis, you are one of my favourite youtubers - I love your reactions. I don't actually think Saurfang will ever be warchief. I believe that at some point during BfA, he will finally get his honourable death, and it will be something spectacularly heroic. I really don't think Blizzard are done yet with Sylvanas. I would personally like to see Greymane finish her off, or possibly one of her sisters. But that won't happen for ages, if at all.
Sort of get the impression that they might be setting up to kill Saurfang off. They know that people will rally behind him. He has depth to his character that people can connect with which makes them close to him as a character. Which in a world of "shades of grey" seems like the perfect way for blizzard to illicit a response from the Horde players especially were he to die.
Love saurfang, however I want to point out that from a story telling stand point, Saurfang is the old veteran who's lived forever, which means he likely has to die, especially since one of his key motivations is that he's wanted his warriors death for so long. So I think there is a possibility that from the way its being written that they may kill him off at some point in the expansion as a galvanizing event for the horde against sylvanas, I almost wouldnt put it past them to have him finally say enough is enough to her and have sylvanas be the one who kills him, giving them the perfect reason to have the horde finally stand up against her and push her out. Bare in mind I only think this because it will make for a powerful moment from a narrative point of view and what blizzard has always been good at, making really strong moments you remember, as sad as it would be, it would be an incredibly good reason to have not only more of the old characters retire to make room for newer characters to move onto, especially in regards to horde leadership, but also it has the perfect balance of bitter-sweet, a beloved character getting the death he wishes for in battle is a classic story arch that works very well. I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to retire a few more long term characters, since Varian's death was so impactful, which isn't a bad thing, its sad emotionally, but not bad if its done right.
I believe they released this earlier than planned just to soothe the outcry over the Sylvanas Warbringers episode. They must not have expected this extreme of a reaction from the people.. or maybe this was the plan all along, but I doubt it, seeing the release time on this video.
In my opinion this cinematic was made with the original BfA cinematic, and keep it in secret cause Blizzard know how people, especially Horde, will feel for Sylvanas cinematic, it has the same Saurfang model than original cinematic with the ash mark and not in full armor, and troll look like the one in cinematic that i thought was Rokhan... Great cinematic...
Do orcs even die of old age? I feel like they get all grey and maybe have some crows feet near their eyes but their physique seems to never truly degrade. Greatmother Geyah was old even when we went back in time to Draenor, and she's still alive in her present self in Outland. Saurfang was already experienced as a soldier and had an infant son when he drank the blood of Manoroth. 30+ years later he's still in prime physique. Maybe orcs can live forever so long as they don't give up hope. Or at the very least, they always SOMEHOW retain a fighting physique no matter how venerable they age, all the way until their heart just gives out. Swolest grandpa right here, damn son.
its pretty certain that he didnt wanted to charge in and kill as many alliance as possible. Why would he carry a torch to signal them that hes coming? The moment he charged he would been filled with arrows and lead. im pretty sure he wanted to challenge Genn to Mak'Gora, since Anduin would not stand a single chance, especially because magic is forbidden in Mak'gora. And he would absolutely not lose on purpose cause thats also dishonorable. But you are definetly right about Saurfang Necroxis! he is what the horde should be, he would be a worthy Warchief. And after this cinematic im once again proud to say: FOR THE HORDE, VICTORY OR DEATH!
I haven't given up on Sylvanas. In the book that comes with the special edition (which this cinematic portrays a bit of) She gives motivation to what she did. Its not "good" but its understandable.. it really is "morally grey" it just didn't convey it in the animation. I think Saurfangs big role will be to remind Her What the horde means. I think he'll be the Thrall to her Grom. He'll be the one to talk sense into her. Think about it. cinematic like this take months to make. So that means they have had this story planned for a while. Chapter 1 Burn down Teld. they literally predicted our rage and the very next week calmed us with this cinematic. This isn't the fanboy in me talking tho I'm sure most will assume it, that while blizz have some times dropped the ball with a story arc here and there. I doubt they would invest 14 years in building up a character from truly jaded to someone that if you rewatched the opening to legion it truly tore her up to abandon varyan(sp?) to go that giant of an arc to have her be a mustache twirling villain that got all emotional when a dying NE trigger her? the most calculated strategist in wow unhinged like that ? that quickly? nah. Because I know that, this video has given me hope (uh -oh I said hope) that blizzard isn't stupid, they predicted our reaction and are pulling strings. they've had this planned for months.
As much as I'd love Saurfang to become Warchief, I honestly think he'll die fighting against Sylvanas for the Horde he believes in. Who becomes Warchief in that case? No idea. But Saurfang will definitely play a big role this expansion no matter what. It doesn't end with him sitting in a cell, I'm sure of it.
of all youtube reaction comments. yours was the best. Yes, the old man stood there for those Zappy boi kind of innocent but exploited (by Sylvanas) soldiers to escape from alliance, also from the plague chemical weapon. As we all know, the old man becomes Papa Oscar Whiskey. Let's see how he restores (or claims) his honor.
Because its not the same story. Also what do you mean the Alliance has to lose? Siege of Orgrimmar was not a Horde loss. It was a victory over an insane tyrant. The literal entire story arc was the Horde's alone, with the Alliance only showing up at the very end. Sylvanas is evil and is turning the Horde against itself. The sooner you come to terms with that, the sooner you'll be able to accept her inevitable death.
Wrong, its not child story where good always wins. Like with lich king, horde during first war. Why she has to die because she is evil. There should be more then just oh i will become eveil because of... wait btw, why? Its just cant be that someone become evil for no reason. fought with alliance not long ago and suddenly pure hatred.
Even as an alliance, night elf lover, this was friggin awesome! I still hate sylvanas, and a large majority of the horde for their part in burning my home. But hearts are turning back to thralls horde. And I love it! I somewhat suspect that this was Voljin's plan all along. Saurfang refused to take lead time and time again. Perhaps Voljin saw that sylvana's horrible actions would spur Saurfang to action and finally take the place he should have long ago. This may have been the plan all the way to the start of legion, or even longer...
The Troll has a name! He is Zekhan, son of Hekazi. Long live Zekhan! Zekhan for Troll racial leader! Boy's got a good heart, and the Horde could use more leaders like him.
Even though the timeline is correct with this cinematic, after the tree burning and before Lordaeron, I almost feel like Blizz released this a bit early for damage control.
Takes months to make these cinematic's they didn't put it out to help people understand. This was planned to prepare us to hate each other and battle once again. And he was going to kill as many as he could ( sacrifice ) himself
I didn't say they put it out in response to the Sylvanas cinematic though... I wondered if they released it a day or two early because of it. But they didn't, it went up late because of it originally launching in China.
No clearly he wasn't about to "Turn himself over to the Alliance to be executed." In the moment I misspoke, clearly he was going to try and kill as many Alliance soldiers as possible before dying his warrior's death.
Love your reactions!
Thanks :)
Spoiler
He does end up turning himself in after the battle as he is seen in the stockades as the Horde Player rescues Princess Telanji
maybe directly challenge anduin
I am an Alliance with body and soul. But Varok Saurfang is one of those warriors that I deeply adore. He is the epitome of honor for me.
The Horde's heart is always beating.
But definitely not in Sylvanas chest... that fucking dead elven bitch sould burn
Saurfang is my Warchief, Lok'tar ogar!
Caleb M Victory or Death!
Caleb M youre so damm rigth

My favorite reaction to this cinematic.

That shot of Teldrasil burning was amazing cinematography. It really helps display how overwhelming seeing something like that would be
I agree. Too many people are confused about why Saurfang decide to fight back, as if he was accepting Sylvanas, but he is not. He is fighting for the innocents within the Horde.
I didn't know too much about Saurfang, but he has suddenly become one of my favourite current wow characters.
I forgot to say that he will defy Sylvanas at some point. It is the only way he can resolve his internal conflict.

Do we know exactly how old he is? Or the average lifespan of orcs? I really can't think of many orcs who have died of old age.
Xander I think maybe the shaman Drek’thar in Frostfire Ridge was pretty old? Don’t remember much older orcs than him
Saurfang should take Zappy Boi under his wing (Saurfang lost his son, Zappy lost his father) and when he's ready having been mentored in honor and true Horde values he can pass the torch to him. It would be nice to have another shaman as Warchief.

This is the Horde I know and respect for over a decade.
I think he was going to attack the Alliance army alone rather than turn himself in.
Yep, and finally die with honor in battle.
FLguy kind of sad how he was brought to that point
But there is no honour in suiciding. It just shows how empty he was.
Man I love Saurfang
I was really looking forward to watching reactions to this video, and it's awesome that you and others uploaded this so fast.
Your reactions are the most sincere and genuine in ALL of youtube!!! quick upload also...thanks for this mate, greetings!
Thank you :)
Tears in my eyes. I'm screaming as a dwarf "For the true Horde"
There's no way they'd spend this much money and time in this cinematic for Saurfang not to be our warchief. #FORTHEHORDE
There is no hope left for Sylvanas after the burning, but this piece and some of the new information coming out from the novellas at least gives me some hope for the Horde.
We can only hope.
Because no matter how she tries she she can never kill Hope :P
Hopefully Saurfang cuts her down and maybe becomes Warchief but I think he doesn't want that at all, he is a warrior not a diplomat. Or hopefully Thrall puts away those robes and puts on his shoulderpads and takes his rightful place as the Warchief.

Saurfang for Warchief 2020. Make the Horde Honorable Again. I'm with him.
Oh good god, Saurfang is PISSED!!!

Finally some resistance in the Horde with regards to their leadership!
5:50-6:35 you can see the emotions and pain of being trapped in this situation on both Saurfangs face and yours.
damn saurfang reminds of good ol thrall. FOR THE HORDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 4 EVER
Rimon Shamon same here pure warcraft 3 vibes whit these 2

I play WOW only for two reason Saurfang and Sylvanas ... after what Sylvanas did ... Saurfang brings hope to the Horde as always 😢
Victor Alvaro Bravo i feel ya mon
As a 90 to 95% alliance player and fan I truly hope both Saurfang becomes leader of the horde for the sake of honor and morality, and I hope it is the Horde who strike down the HIGHLY overrated ALWAYS crazy an evil Sylvanas before we do. Never thought I would actually see cinematic Dranosh, it got me by surprise. Saurfang for warchief.
Saurfang does the same gesture thing with his fist against the troll's chest, that he does to his dead son in the flashback.
Great watch as always Necroxis! Keep it up my man

I would have liked to see our nightelf captain on the shore by Sylvanas. The story telling was nice. It was on a small scale and made the characters very relatable. .
You seem to have the most genuine reaction ,together with hazelnutgaming. Others just fake it really hard..keep it up man.
He could also be getting screen time because they are going to kill him off. They did the same with Varian aswell. I saw all that screen time of my favorite lore character and I feared he would die and that's what happened. I was so sad at Varian's death.
But Varian was a faction leader who has a ton of screentime already. Saurfang has always been there but hasn't really been the focus at any point.
Saurfang is really old. He would be dying of old age in a few more years even if nobody kills him.
No. Saurfang is still one of the strongest Orcs who has ever lived even at his current age. He may be old, but he is a true warrior.
I will never understand how can someone hate Saurfang! He is one of the BEST characters of the Warcraft Universe!
Best reaction on youtube, very emotional. subbed
Great Genuine Reaction
im seriously worried now that all this is leadin up to his "Honorable Death" .... please dont kill Saurfang :'''''(

Oh man I can see you shaking from the emotion. Nice reaction.
Now this is a fuckin real cinematic! and the real spirit of the Horde. Saurfang Is the Soul of the modern horde
i love Sarufang too! I think he's the next Warchief of the horde. I'm really looking forward being under his leadership :)
"Blizzard release damage contr...new video about Saurfang."
These take months and months and months to make, so they didn't suddenly make it in the last few days.
They released it during Chinajoy (which is China's version of E3). This was all planned. The Azshara one will be the one released on Monday.
This cinematic is Blizzard at their best. In the cinematic Saurfang wants his warriors death so he was about to commit a form of suicide by cop. Saurfang shows you do not have to blindly follow a warchief who acts without honor.
That troll just got himself adopted
Saurfang is a great leader and my favorite orc and I am a alliance.
He was going to cleave the whole camp and finish the war not turn himself over
Warchief Saurfang has a nice ring to it
honestly, i'm just hoping we get to kill Warchief Bitch-Queen this time around, Thrall ganked Garrosh, Vol'Jin was an overall nice guy, so we better get the kill this time around
Vote for Varok Saurfang to be the new warchief. I had enough with this forsaken blinded vengeance!
I love Saurfang
I believe they released this earlier than planned just to soothe the outcry over the Sylvanas Warbringers episode. They must not have expected this extreme of a reaction from the people.. or maybe this was the plan all along, but I doubt it, seeing the release time on this video.
AN ORC NEVER SURRENDERS! AND ORC FIGHTS TILL THEY FALL AND IF THEY FALL THEY KEEP SWINGING UNTIL THE THEY HIT THE GROUND!!
I'm horde through and through, but i'm done killing alliance. I want to walk into lordaeron, pay my respects for each fallen soldier.
Saurfang for warchief! Make the Horde great again!!
Drek'thar is a blind invalid, so yeah they do probably die from old age. Most of them just tend to die in combat before that happens.
its pretty certain that he didnt wanted to charge in and kill as many alliance as possible.
I hope Zappyboi made it out alive
Couch Grouches he kinda does after sourfang makes a run for it hes the shaman that burns the ground after that
Now lets hope they dont butter us up and hype us just to kill him for a big WOWFACTORtwist
Let's see how he restores (or claims) his honor.
horde is officially made the bad guys now " live with no honor"
I think Saurfang says "without armor?" which is pretty funny and badass at the same time.
Because we need the likes of Baine and Saurfang!
Sylvanas will prevail. Why would blizzard just make another garrosh story. This time alliance need to lose.
Its just cant be that someone become evil for no reason. fought with alliance not long ago and suddenly pure hatred.
timothy lloret whos the next warchief then ?😄
Come on. Baine? lorthemar? ZAPPY? (xD)... thrall? goblin boss? XD
He was about to attack the entire Alliance army on his own? ...That's not fair on the Alliance lol
feel train and ya saurfang get my vote
The Troll has a name! He is Zekhan, son of Hekazi. Long live Zekhan! Zekhan for Troll racial leader! Boy's got a good heart, and the Horde could use more leaders like him.
I have faith for wow and it paid off.
Saurfang for warchief 2018!
Back to Warcraft 3 Horde! Purge the undead from their ranks.
Im completly with you
hell lets make saurfang an alliance general i would be more then honnered to serve with him on the fields aganst the new lich queen
Gotta cha like the reactions too

Vol'jin's son? fathers death horde is all we have ?
