Yes, but I own both. The G80 M3 and now the LCI M340i. I prefer the M340i everyday. Just no comparison. The M340i is just so practical. The M3 is great for track days but so impractical.

The S58 is based on the B58TU, but only 10% of the components are same & 90% are different or new or present in some sort of an upgrade. It’s not just different internals and it’s not just different engines, the cars are quite different. You can get an S58 in an Alpina B3s and it isn’t an M car
My stripped 2023 comp x was 82k in Ohio. M340’s we’re mid to high 60’s. Honestly was a no brainer. M3’s hold their value so much better as well. I daily drive mine and could not be happier, minus my c7 vette , it is the most fun car I have owned and don’t mind 3-4 hour road trips.
I can drop 90k on an M3. I don’t WANT to. Beaver front and not a daily driver . M340i is great I have no regrets. I’ll tune it and do,exhaust etc at some point

There’s always a huge difference in the handling between true M cars and cars with just an M Performance package. You can tune a 340 to keep up but the way they drive and handle is night and day. I still love my 440 and it’s tuned to 600 hp but it’s no M4
I owned the v8 m3 and f80 m3. Stock, they sounded not as good as when you replace the exhaust systems. This new m340 however sounds deeper and less raspy than their M counterparts. These days however, I my daily is a Ford ranger while my m5 comp is my weekender.
If you can afford it, definitely buy the M3. With the exception of the doors and boot lid, every other part on the car is unique and an upgrade…especially the engine which is not even close.
The ‘different internals’ include just very very minor stuff like redesigned bore and stroke for higher revs, forged internals, extra turbos. Almost like this was… a different engine…
if you want an sporty but family and comfortable sedan get the m340i but if you want something sporty and can spend a LOT more buy the m3 it's an complete different animal
That exhaust sounded pretty dang good for a stock BMW! That engine note is way better sounding than the twin turbo set-ups even though I prefer them for performance reasons. Can wait to hear it uncorked further and really let her scream!
Different engine from an M3, less stiff. This is a better daily but slower from 0-60 and less quick around a track, even though it’s very nice. It’s also more under the radar then the M3
the b58 is not an M engine as much as might think it may be, and the whole suspension geometry isn’t even focussed for track driving it’s more of bmws general purpose vehicle with a slightly more powerful engine

They are completely different. The M3 has a S58 engine which is a twin-turbo HOT-V design of the B58. B58 makes 382 HP or maybe 400 while the S58 makes 503HP or 600HP. Two completely different yet similar engines.
Imo, I’d just buy the m340i because with the money I save I can tune it, building is way better than buying also more adjustments for comfort, like lots of power but still want soft suspension? Just mod the engine
A stock turbo f80 with a proper custom tune (and not those weak OTS maps) on E85 will still top end a hybrid turbo B58 (on E85). But at lower speeds the m340i will be extremely hard to catch with the X drive and all
Yes good idea..they dont have any M3 they have to custom build theman they start at 120 grand an i want one but im not sure if i want to go that far...if i did go to that extent my M3 would be a track car...so the 345 i is a good option bmw all handle outstanding a twin turbo V6 sounds like the hot ticket...Bmw s are race proven...the handling is the best part of owning one....i will probably get the 345i because they had a used one at my local dealership...anyway...

I HATE that fucking tv stand they put on that screen. That, and the maintenance costs, are why i went TLX Type S, oh, and its 10k less. Other than that, the m340i is almost a perfect daily car.

This is why I went with an M240i instead of an M2. It didn’t offer that much more relative to how much more it costs. Not worth it imo.
But you will always think about that M2. I think it's good to scratch that itch at some point in life.

The same engine is an insane sentence, 40i has a B58 which produces 300HP while the M3 uses an S55B30 producing over 400HP
