Hi. Greetings from Australia. I Found your channel when searching for Met Mantra Mips, 4-5 days back. And seeing as I already had 2 perfectly good helmets, (along with 4 bikes and 4 sets of shoes) your video on Met was just the motivation I needed, so onwards now to 3 helmets :-) . Since then I has subscribed to your channel, and have watch about 4 so far, and intend to watch all. The Nutrition, spot on, and can say I agree with all so far. Love it, and good work.
I actually wanted to ask you about the Manta helmet after watching 2 of your videos for the first time yesterday. Perfect timing with the reviews and providing information about your helmet selections. I personally use a Red Bontrager Velocis MIPS helmet. Thank you!
Also, great comparo.. Many if not most people just review the new helmet but do not do a side to side explanation of the differences. This new info gave me permission to buy the new model.
Egregio, I wipe the helmet when I am back, scottex paper to absorb the sweat and wet wipes to clean the straps. Only the Bontrager Velocis has got more substantial foam that requires more cleaning and I already changed it.
I've never ridden a Protone, but I have seen the beautiful leather lower part of the strap. The Manta strap is comfortable and at the end of the day the lower strap is usually close but not tight to the chin. The magnetic buckle is slightly bigger than a standard plastic clip and might interfere with high collar jerseys. Love my Manta and my Trenta btw!
I can't tell if this helmet has a low profile or not. From frontal images, it seems the sides are on the wide side. Coming from a Lazer Sphere, I really want to maintain a low profile. Any feedback from owners?
Do you know if the black decals on the side are removable (the ones that say Met) at least do they seem like they are above or below the paint/clear coat. Thanks!
I see you have both: which do you like better, the Rivale MIPS or the Trenta MIPS? I'm not sure how I like the brow on the Trenta (cost is not a factor).
I have the Manta - both the original one and the latest MIPS - (not the Rivale) and the Trenta. If I only had to choose one it would be the Trenta, it's perfect. The Manta has got the edge for winter riding as less vented. The fit is the same and better for oval heads.
Thank you! It does have efficient vents, but are designed to work best at speed. Fine on the fast flats, but in the summer on a hilly route it would be hotter than a vented helmet. In that case I would use the MET Trenta or the POC Octal.
Yes, I used to own a POC Octal, very light and ventilation is the best. In my opinion it fits slightly rounder heads better, while my MET Trenta and Manta are more suited for an oval shape. The volume of the Octal is also on the large side, the newer Ventral Air is better looking and seems very nice.
Grazie!! I have a GameChanger from Abus which I really like because it doesn't give you this mushroom look (I have a very small head) But now I have to replace it and I'd love the manta with the new Mips system. It doesn't look big on you but, as you also know the gamechanger, would you say they have the same non-mushroom profile?? 🤣
Yes, Manta MIPS (and Trenta as well) has a low volume and fits really well without the mushroom effect. I tried the Game Changer, and it was of a similar size, maybe slightly smaller in the forehead area. Internal padding makes the Manta more comfortable.
Technically all helmets pass the required standards, so in theory they all should be the same. MIPS is supposed to help in case of a fall to reduce the shock to the brain and helmets with a larger volume (especially on the side and back) will keep the head further away from the tarmac, but I don't have any specific data. Virginia tech have a list of the safest helmets for their standards above the legal requirements.
Great vid Federico good information for anyone looking to purchase a helmet, I’m shocked that you don’t have a Kask Protone 😂I love them !!!!. The manta doesn’t look good but I’m hoping to purchase a specialized Evade helmet like the ones that QUICK STEP wear in the world tour !! That’s if Specialized have a sale around Xmas or new year . Have a great weekend of riding if you head out 👍
Thank you Richard! When I started both Protone and Evade were beautiful but expensive and I was not yet sure if I was going to ride that seriously. So I got the Velocis, but then things picked up from there...😂
I think I made a spelling error Federico!!! I meant to say that I do like the Manta , as you say it’s great for winter and very aero looking. . Keep up the good work and you should try the Heathrow loop one day 😂😂😂!!!!
Federico sounds and acts like he’s making love to all the items in his reviews😅😀 seriously, man, awesome job here, as always. After six years of cycling in a baseball cap put backwards (yes, SIX YEARS), I’m finally ready for my first ever bike helmet and I am 90% positive I’m going to settle on MET Manta MIPS. I have two questions.: 1) what size is your head? Yes, I’m trying to buy a helmet without first, trying it on at the local bike store… I am self measuring at right about 58 cm (or a quarter cm over 58), and praying to God that size M will fit me… my second question is, about the convenience of the magnetic buckle: is it easy/possible to lock it with one hand? I have limited mobility in my right hand, so the regular clamp would be a big inconvenience and magnetic is the way to go for me. It was one of the criteria for selecting a MET helmet in the first place. Thanks a lot and I am hugs to your channel. (I bought a bunch of. SIROKO gear based on your reviews in other videos too)
Thank you very much!! My head size is a touch over 57, so I am bang on M. You might need to consider if you are also going to use a skull cap in winter, as this would add some bulk if you are already at the limit. I just tried to use the magnetic clamp with one hand and it can be done easily!
@@fede1275 thanks a lot! You are helping people even in your comments. Very important observation about winter cycling, because I do like to get out as much as possible until the temperature gets too low 40s Fahrenheit and a cycling cap will definitely add some volume… Anyway, I went to my local bike store and tried on a few helmets. They even remeasured me. I am at 58 cm, from what I saw, I should definitely fit into a medium. So I am going to pull the trigger on the. MET Manta MIPS helmet right away. @@fede1275 hi Federico, I have a question for you as an Italian. So I went ahead and ordered the MET Manta MIPS helmet. I paid €163 for it, plus shipping… And it will be coming from Italy. Nice review. I just picked up a MET trenta 3k carbon and love the fit super lite and comfortable. Sadly the MET helmets are not easy for USA riders(me) to come buy.
