I'm also amazed how you seem able to respond so frequently. So, my tyre nerd brother, I'm a subscriber, but on the wrong side of the Atlantic for you. But not me.
I have a ranger on the front , a beautiful Rallz on the rear and a dual venture in the garage. I have been waiting for the Ranger to wear out to swap it but after washing the front end out twice on Kleghorn last week, its going away tomorrow. Great and accurate review Kyle.
Dude!! The front ranger is a mess in the dirt ;) You’ll love the Dual Venture. That’s what I replaced my Ranger with and I havre 6k miles on on the Dual Venture with perfect on & off road manners.
@@manybikes Is the DV obnoxious on the road though? I do a short commute and some longer pavement runs but want something that will do well-ish in the looser gravel and of course more off road when I can get there.
I had a similar experience with them, Kyle. I got about 4500 miles out of one and about 5000 miles out of another rear. Kept the same front the entire time. My front tire looked like yours but twice as bad once I finally pulled it. The tire has a strange buzz and vibration at about 25 to 30 mph. The rear did great off-road, but I didn't think power sliding wasn't as predictable on dirt as the Anakee Wild. Just seemed to break loose unpredictably when forcing it. You talked about the front loading up with mud sliding. I posted a video on these a while back. The first day I took them out, it rained pretty hard here in Northern Nevada. I got a pretty good unpredictable slide out of them, and man, were they ever loaded up. Granted, I wonder if too many tires would have performed much better in that situation. I also noticed the front tire seemed looser than the Anakee Wild on gravel roads. It definitely darts less in ruts. I don't really know if I like that better or not. It seems to run straighter off-road than the Anakee Wilds. But it also doesn't get the traction. I also felt the uneasiness of the rear tire when cornering hard. I didn't realize until you pointed out that there is a big spacing there. I thought the lugs were folding over or something, as that is what it feels like to me. Thanks so much for sharing you do excellent reviews.
Thank you for watching. Yeah it is an interesting tire. I think it will take come Shinko and Kenda sales with the price point but ... overall performance can be beat my many of the top contenders.
Seriously considered slapping on both of these (front and back) but after your review of the front I think I'll go Dual Venture front and K60 ranger rear. Should be a nice overall combo for my old 1993 XL600V for trips through Dutch mud, clay and sand as well as the Scandinavian gravel.
Good deal. Thanks for watching. I look forward to hearing how that combo works out for you. That Dual Venture is reversible! Make sure you do that as soon as you see trailing edge wear and you will get LOTS of mileage out of that tire.
Im at about 4K miles on my K60 Rangers and my front is wearing the same exact way. I've done about 70% street and 30% off road so far. Started using my bike for commuting shortly after getting these tires haha.
It really is an interesting wear pattern. My percentages ended up close to yours. Long miles between the dirt + a daily commute. Since the ranger came off in Sept. I’ve burned through a set of MotoZ RallZ … 4k miles on those. Good stuff. Thanks for watching.
@@manybikes I want to try a dual venture front and Adventure rear on the T7 next based off of your recommendations. Also, I personally haven't gotten any extra vibrations from the front of my T7 yet with the wear. I even just took it up to 100+ mph recently and its still nice and stable. But I could just be getting lucky haha.
I think since so many of us run mismatch tires front and rear in the offroad segment, it might be helpful in the future to make separate reviews(sections) for the front and rear tire! I know its more work but I think you definitely talked more about the front being sketchy which might entirely turn people away from the tire even if the rear is still good. I will be throwing on a ranger rear and wild front end of this month, and will be tackling a look consisting of deep graded fireroads, deep sand hills, babyhead/stone step hills, and slick clay/mud. Trailmax was an absolute nightmare in the wet stuff, and mediocre on the sand(I never stopped so didnt get to find out how well it digs, rather not). Will report back on how the rear performs, we all know the wild is good haha For $250 if it wears better on the rear than the wild($260) I might go with this combo since I commute to work on my bike anyways(25km daily)
@@manybikes It would be greatly appreciated! Especially since so many tire reviews are done by guys down in utah and cali and overall dryer places, I don’t find many useful tire reviews for us canadians that often encounter the wet and the slick as soon as we duck into the woods, found that out the hard way with the trailmax!
I'm running the Ranger on the rear and tkc 80 on the front. I'm a fan of the tkc 80 for the front, it does everything pretty well and I get 6-7k out of one. I'm also pretty happy with the Ranger and I'll probably get around 3k out of it and thats not bad considering the rocky terrain we have in Arizona. I probably would consider running it again at some point.
The Arizona rock trails EAT tires. Much more so than SoCal or the lomy soil up north. Try the Dual Venture up front… it work really well. I’ve Got 7k on mine now and it’s only 2/3 worn.

My experience with this tire was very similar to yours, except the weird wear on the front tire. I used a 19" front tire on a lighter bike which likely accounts for the difference. I agree with you, this would not be my first tire choice, even at a discount.
Thanks for your feedback Matt. Fly out… let’s go for a ride! I need to test the Bridgestones… and need another rider. As for these tires, If I was in a money pinch I’d for sure run the rear, but would go a different direction.
Bought a set when they launched in South Africa. Very happy with the solid carcass, means I can take big hits at low pressures and it’s fine on my Africa Twin. I only got 2700 km out of the rear and that was mostly loose shale rock, gravel and hardpack. The rear tire gets super sketchy on tar when worn down though. Nice tyre but I’m on Motoz now.
So the front k60 ranger handles essentially the same as the shinko 804/805 front, excellent on road but tries to kill you on loose terrain especially gravel, this is the exact reason I'm ditching the shinkos even though there so good everywhere else
Like I suspected our experience is almost identical. Great for highway, packed gravel, and hardpack. No grip in the very loose stuff. I am fairly new to riding off-road, but my riding has been 99% what this tire was built for. They performed way better than the Dunlop 606's I took off in those conditions, especially on the highway and gravel roads. I'm nearly to 3K on my set and the rear is getting flat and a little sketchy when leaned. For reference I'm on a DR650 with much narrower rims than what this tire was probably designed for (although I couldn't find a rim width recommendation). They have performed well for me and now I'm trying to decide what to try next. I'm leaning towards a dual venture/rallz combo in the tube style but would love to hear your thoughts.
Pretty interesting eh!? Everyone who has them who has commented here has said they have all felt the same. You need the Dual Venture (tube type) and the RallZ in the 120 or 130 on your DR650. You will not want to try anything else after that... Serious.
Hey Kyle! Great review again! I was wondering if you are going to have a look on the Dunlop Mutant. I like it very much, was wondering what you think of it.
Yes Sir! The Dunlop Mutant... A mutation of unique components that create one of the most versatile street tires Dunlop has ever produced. On the street ok... but is is not ADV tire, that is for sure.
A great job as ALWAYS! Kyle, I just picked up a '22 CRF450RL. The bike is fully uncorked with a GET ECU controlling everything, so lots of power, but the bike is light @ around 275 lbs, wet. Living in D/FW means a 500 mile road trip each way to the closest BDR. Seriously looking at the Rallz or the Adventures front and back. I'm no pro rider but fully capable. I'd like to get your recommendations. Thanks
4 days & 1500klm's & the Rallz on the CRF450L was shot, couldnt believe how quick it wore, Im getting much better mileage out of the Dunlop D606, average around 4000klm's in the same riding conditions, the Rallz was a very disappointing tyre.
I was tempted to try these with my AX 41's shot but this review nixed that idea. I may try the Metzler Karoo 4's but the AX 41's perform exceptionally well street and trail so its hard to not stick with them.
Yeah, looking at that ranger front I did not have high hopes for dirt grip. The blocks are just too big! Reminds me of the look of the shinko 804 front which I really disliked. The TKC80 and AX41 fronts are both way better. Although now I put a dual venture front on and I'll not run any other front tire on this bike. What a phenomenal front tire. For now I'll keep running the ranger rear - love the street handling and it's good in the dirt, and so much cheaper than the Rallz rear.
@@manybikes That's what I'm hoping for. For me, the biggest benefit of the dual venture is just how much better it works in loose terrain. It is SO MUCH BETTER in sand than the AX41. It's also chunky and has better rim protection in rocky terrain being a stiffer tire. Yeah the AX41 feels better on road for sure but the DV is good enough and so much better in the dirt.
Sounds like your better off just getting a street tire . My top pics for 50 50 is the E-07+ Mitas and for sand and lots of dirt the pirelli scorpion rally mt front and the desert HT for the rear . I can't remember what brand the desert HT tire is but the combo is great in the dirt and ok on the street
I love the Desert HT and Scorpion Rally combo... just wicked in the dirt. The E07+ was great on the Africa Twin but I did not like them on the 1190... not at all.
It is pretty crazy! Rim widths, how the bikes carry the weight ie: AT is super nose heavy whereas the KTM is light in the front end, rider position... it all makes a difference. Pretty big differences too.
Are you the Kyle Bradshaw who raced motocross back in the early 90's for Yamaha? Thanks for the video. My perception is for a few more bucks the Motoz Rallyz is the best choice for my Tiger.
@Kyle Bradshaw sorry I remember now his first name was Damon. I don't need a set right now but will contact you in a couple months. I like your choice of front tire as well and that looks like a perfect combo for me too.
Soft terrain as in loamy / muddy? I’d have three different suggestions based upon how much / how aggressive you want to ride the road. Please define soft and road riding characteristics
Seems this tire is a pass then. Better to go Anakee Wild or E07+? E07+ rear next on my T7, just got to decide E07+ or Anakee Wild for the front Any plans for the Trailmax Raid, thinking it's similar to K60 Ranger?
You can... but you Do Not Want to! The narrow rim will pinch in the sides of the tire and you will actually have LESS rubber on the ground at all times and WAY less when leaned over in corners. Stick with the 150 is my suggestion.
Kyle, with regard to the shortcomings you noticed on the front on loose soil with inch-ish sized rocks and on pavement on the rear near the end-of-life, how would the Ranger compare to a MotoZ RallZ (or Dual Venture) front and a MotoZ Tractionator RallZ or Adventure rear?
I’ve mounted a Rallz / Dual Venture shortly after shooting this video in Sept. 7k miles later the Rallz rear is done… the front still has probably 3k more miles in it…. And they are both “still working” as needed. They cost more… but are better tires all the way around. Oh… my Karoo 4’s arrive this week!
Did you happen to weigh these? I'm sure they are likely in the avg range but always trying to stay away from something like the heavier Dunlop missions.
@@manybikes well I have a '23 KTM 1290 SA-R. Rottweiler Sent me the wrong rim width rim by mistake and won't take it back. So I am stuck with an $800 paperweight, or I'm about to throw a tire on it and hope for the best. Otherwise, the factory wheel is still on my bike. As far as terrain, It's mostly BDR's with this bike. I am planning on riding COBDR next year. Would a Motoz RallZ be better in this situation?
@@BigDaveTALKS yes, it will work just fine. I prefer other front tires. Wasn’t too impressed with this one in the dirt. But yes, any of the 90/90-21 tires will fit on the rim.
@@manybikes okay great. Once you mentioned how it performs in the sand I turned to the RallZ. I actually like riding in the sand especially with my T7 equipped with Motoz Desert H/T. Thank you for your time in responding and thank you for the informative content. I’m about to order the tire and finally put this front wheel on.
Just replaced my Anlas Capra X, with the rear Heidenau K60. I felt the rear kind of sketchy in gravel and fine sand, like if it wanted to skip out sideways... Similar to your front tyre experience, bike was also loaded and running 2.5 bar pressure... maybe to high or just tyre not good on that environment? Thanks in advance By the way also swapped my worn AX41 front by a Mitas E13, it's an awesome rally tyre, although wobbles and knobies flex quite more than the AX41 which excels on the road, may go back to it and leave this MitE13 for focus off road trips. Cheers mate
@@manybikes they wobble in rain grooves and when pushing them hard on the street you can feel the knobies flexing , also they start to wobble a bit about + 160 km/h. I think you will love them when you try them. By the way, Did it make any big difference airing down the Ranger? Have the feeling carcass is super rigid, I sat on top of the tyre when got home and didn't even move an inch 😂. Many thanks as always for your help Kyle.
Awesome! Re: the Ranger... Yes and No... they are STIFF that is for sure. Aired down did help but the front tire big flat blocks were sketchy at all pressures.
As always, "the tire guy" provides a thorough and frank review. Based on his comments, I would NEVER buy this tire. It has serious flaws on both street and dirt. Given the intense competition in tires, it's a clear pass IMO. At any price.
Just reporting the facts as I experienced them. For some, looking for a tire that works at a price that’s half what some cost… it will be a go-to tire for them. Others will prefer the amazing AX41 and swap them every 1500 miles ;) Thanks for watching!
@@manybikes Fair enough, Kyle. I'm a fan of your work, and I don't mean to put words in your mouth. Rather, I'm just relating what your comments mean to me. The last economy tire I ran cost me two cracked ribs...so there's that.
Thanks Kyle 🤙 You did not say too much about tire noise. As a tinnitus sufferer who loves dirt, I'm looking for that unicorn quiet 'knobbie' for my T7. I enjoy the asphalt to the trails, but the stock Pirellis preemptively send the bike to the ground when they SEE mud. I think you could do a whole segment on 'noise to traction' ratios. (But it might be a perfectly straight line ratio) Us hearing sufferers would be stoked... Any recommendations? Rallz vs Adv? Or one of these ranger/Ax/Karoo/tk80 looking things... cheers.
Great suggestions! I have not done this as the noise is actually very different when it comes to different size tires (of the same line) or same size tires on different bikes… different windshields … SO Many variables! I also tried to test “wind noise in helmets” but that effort failed too…. These tires had zero road noise I could hear over my Yoshimura. ;)
The AX41 is my favorite tire… it feels amazing. But it doesn’t last. The Motoz Rallz rear and Dual Venture tires are my Go-to tires. The work well and for a long time.
I have used several sets of AX41s. The Ranger rear is considerably more durable and performs comparably. I haven't tried the ranger front but it seems pretty terrible haha
I have never hated a tire so much at the K60. From washing out in a wet parking, to sliding the front into oncoming traffic on a mountain curve on cold pavement...this tire was horrible on anything hard unless it was +60 degree's cuz its hard compound. Its offroad performance wasnt good either. I took them off after 400 miles, sold them and never bought a hard tire ever again.
I got the tire but haven't ridden it yet. So far, only heard good things about the tire. It allways depends from which side you look at it. Your description sounds very plausible. Thanks for sharing. In Germany it´s difficult to get Modoz tires. What can you recommend as a front tire instead? What about Mitas E-09, E-12 or Anakee Wild or even the old TKC 80? Appreciate your expertise.

It's also chunky and has better rim protection in rocky terrain being a stiffer tire. Yeah the AX41 feels better on road for sure but the DV is good enough and so much better in the dirt.
You hit the nail on the head!
What about the Ranger at the rear and scout on the front?
That would work... I like a more aggressive front so I would go Dual Venture, TKC80 or even an Ankee wild.
@@manybikes Thanks Kyle for your advise.
The E07+ was great on the Africa Twin but I did not like them on the 1190... not at all.
@@manybikes it's wierd how tires behave different on different bikes . I guess it makes sense but I wouldn't have thought about it
It is pretty crazy! Rim widths, how the bikes carry the weight ie: AT is super nose heavy whereas the KTM is light in the front end, rider position... it all makes a difference. Pretty big differences too.
So how would you compare the rear Ranger vs the TKC80 rear? Performance wise, I don't care about mileage.
Very similar Rick, very similar to the TKC80 rear.
But what about pressure on and off road ?
On and off road fully loaded I ran full pressure. Dropped down to 30ish when unloaded. And “when necessary” down to low 20’s.
What pressures do you run on dirt?
I run 30 psi if jumping on and off-road. If it gets really technical I drop down to the low 20's.
Are you the Kyle Bradshaw who raced motocross back in the early 90's for Yamaha? Thanks for the video. My perception is for a few more bucks the Motoz Rallyz is the best choice for my Tiger.
Not a motocross racer… but Yes, the Rallz is my GoTo tire foe the rear and the Dual Venture for the front. If you’d like a set I’ve got them in-stock.
@Kyle Bradshaw sorry I remember now his first name was Damon. I don't need a set right now but will contact you in a couple months. I like your choice of front tire as well and that looks like a perfect combo for me too.
WooHoo! Damon was RAD!
Have you some suggestions for soft terrain of the same segment of tyre?
Soft terrain as in loamy / muddy? I’d have three different suggestions based upon how much / how aggressive you want to ride the road. Please define soft and road riding characteristics
@@manybikes I need a dual purpose tyre which is also good in muddy and Sandy terrain, maintaining a good mileage
Seems this tire is a pass then. Better to go Anakee Wild or E07+?
E07+ rear next on my T7, just got to decide E07+ or Anakee Wild for the front
Any plans for the Trailmax Raid, thinking it's similar to K60 Ranger?
Yeah, the TrailMax Raid will be a year or more before it hits the USA. Bummer. I’m personally not a fan of the E07 front… I’d go the wild.
I use the 150/7O B 17, can i upgrade to the 170/60 B 17 my Bike is the F650 GS 2010
You can... but you Do Not Want to!
@@manybikes Cool! Thank you, sir.
My pleasure!
Did you happen to weigh these? I'm sure they are likely in the avg range but always trying to stay away from something like the heavier Dunlop missions.
Yes I did... cant remember exactly (need to go watch my detailed breakdown video) but they were heavier than the AX41 and lighter than the RallZ.
Would it be possible to run this on a 1.5” front rim
Yes. That would work… I wouldn’t though. What bike do you ride? What type of terrain?
@@BigDaveTALKS i can provide your Motoz tires… As for the content, it’s my pleasure! Www.Manybikes.biz
What tire(s) do you recommend for gravel in a 90/90-21 front?
The RallZ or Dual Venture front tires work great.
Thanks in advance
By the way also swapped my worn AX41 front by a Mitas E13, it's an awesome rally tyre, although wobbles and knobies flex quite more than the AX41 which excels on the road, may go back to it and leave this MitE13 for focus off road trips.
Cheers mate
Great feedback! Yeah… the Ranger leaves a bit to be desired. The E13 looks amazing but the wobble?! We will see…
@@manybikes they wobble in rain grooves and when pushing them hard on the street you can feel the knobies flexing , also they start to wobble a bit about + 160 km/h.
@@manybikes And I love the AX41. FWIW. But I run Motoz.
OUCH! That sucks... E07+ did that to me ;)
@@manybikes ...the lessons life (and tires) teach us....
From a little German Tyre Factory...its a very good Quality....Made in Germany works here xD Greetings from Flensburg 😍😍😍
For sure!
Thanks Kyle 🤙
You did not say too much about tire noise.
These tires had zero road noise I could hear over my Yoshimura. ;)
Which do you prefer? These tires or the AX41s?
The AX41 is my favorite tire… it feels amazing. But it doesn’t last. The Motoz Rallz rear and Dual Venture tires are my Go-to tires. The work well and for a long time.
Gotcha, I love the ax41s, just can't seem to get away from them. I'll have to try out the motoz tires. Thanks for the feedback Kyle
I have used several sets of AX41s. The Ranger rear is considerably more durable and performs comparably. I haven't tried the ranger front but it seems pretty terrible haha
Yeah not a fan of the front tire.
Sounds like you were on the K60 Scout tires. The Ranger tires here are much better!!!
The Anakee Wild or Mitas e-12 would be great options.
What do you recommend on the front? I’m riding all kinds of terrain mostly forest and sometimes mud, sand an gravel 😅
I'd say the AX41, or the Anakee Wild or the Motoz Dual Venture
As always, great tire reviews. And now I know the K60 is not for me.
Thanks for your support Rick. Yeah.. it will be a great tire for some... and not for others. Happy to have saved you $265 ;)
Thx for the review Kyle! How would you compare front Ranger to AX41? Mileage-wise and handling-wise?
AX41 hands down! But... it wears out quickly.
I’ll pass on this one just put the Bridgestone Battlax Adventurecross AX41 Tire and these tires KICK ASS ! couldn’t care about how long they will last, they grip, turn and just a total confidence builder in the dirt ! (Good on road as well)
The AX41 is my all time favorite 50/50+ tire. I just wish they lasted a little longer.
@@manybikes we just gota make the big $$ and stockpile them in the garage or get a sponsorship ! 😂😂 I just threw them on my tiger rally pro and got in the dirt this past weekend up in Rawher flats outside of LA. I never realize you could actually turn in the dirt LOL ! They just in tore everything up for the first time I felt super confident and had a blast ! Thanks brotha appreciate all you do 🤘🏽🍻
@@SSN70 100% that feeling is amazing! Man… last time I was at Rohwer I crashed up an 890 Rally… “Sorry John” fun place to ride.
@@manybikes OH boy ! I had a few their myself 😩 🤣👊🏽
@@SSN70 have you seen that video?! It’ll make you cringe!!!
Maybe the scout doesn’t like radioactive soil 😂
Ha! Ha! Ha!
Shinko 700
That is a go-to tire for many!
What about the Ranger at the rear and AX41 on the front?
That would be a good combo.
