He compares two Arcteryx jackets: the Arcteryx Alpha SV and the Arcteryx Beta AR, highlighting their suitability for different conditions.
The Alpha SV is a heavy-duty Gore-Tex jacket designed for extremely cold climates, like Norway and the Arctic Circle, with temperatures as low as minus 40°C.
The main focus is on the Beta AR jacket, which is lightweight, versatile, and ideal for all-around use in milder conditions, such as Australian alpine settings.
The Beta AR performed excellently in various Australian conditions, including temperatures from 3°C to minus 2°C, snow, sleet, and rain, keeping the wearer dry and comfortable.
Ben wore minimal layers (a 150 or 280 Merino base layer) underneath the jacket, which effectively blocked out the cold air.
The jacket's ventilation features, including pit zips, are crucial for regulating body temperature, especially during activities like cross-country skiing.
The jacket offers excellent protection against wind and harsh elements, with adjustable zips, drawcords, and compatibility with ski goggles.
It includes taped zips and internal pockets to keep items like phones and cameras dry in wet conditions.
Ben recommends the Beta AR for slightly warmer, wetter conditions

I've been looking at this for hiking in Queensland. I want something that is abrasion resistant, lightweight, and packs down nice and small.
Or the goretex jacket from Patagonia.
