You eat before and after. Snack in between, if needed. I realize it may not be for everone, but I certainly would want that option. Or, do the original two hours in the theater and we can buy the box set or stream the rest. Damn covid!!

My goodness. People sat in theaters to watch Dr. Zhivago, Ghandhi, and Laurence of Arabia. There were intermissions. What’s another 2 hours? I would have watched it for 6 hours in a theatre. Also, I wonder if something could have been worked out with PBS…Ken Burns multipart documentaries always have been well done and received on PBS. Disney is awful. For decades, they made middling, saccharine garbage, and raked in piles of cash because it was all so inoffensively appealing to uncritical consumers too easily willing to part with their money, and charged three times what the competition charges for their second-rate fare. And when they scratch together enough cash from getting families to stay within their parks for all-inclusive vacations, to pay too much for DVDs and to pay even more for their streaming service and downloads (which used to be a standard cable channel included in the basic package but now in some cases is the only way to get content you might have once enjoyed on other platforms), they purchase things that someone else made with far superior talent and attention to the craft. Almost immediately, they ruined Marvel and Star Wars, filling the story lines with "woke" nonsense and, especially in the case of the latter, destroying beloved characters and once-excellent story arcs. I wonder if they do this on purpose, out of spite for the far superior story creations of other writers, or if it's all a glaring example of their sheer incompetence and the inevitable result is more saccharine fare.

Hello Lance, thank you very much for putting all of this news information into a very nice extended look. I've seen the website annoucement and read some of the press but hearing and seeing your News answers many questions otherwise left to hang. Something that I think maybe worth mentioning is the Disney end of things as Bob Iger as the CEO of the company. Bob has noted that he is a huge Beatles fan. Also a fact that is worth mentioning is that ABC TV is part of the Disney umbrella. So, Bob I think may have been involved with the Shea stadium portions of the touring years DVD that Ron Howard put out. And don't forget, that Anthology was also on ABC. So you have the Shea stadium concert which was part of ABC's broadcast, the Anthology series on ABC TV and now there is the get back project which will be on Disney Plus. So Disney owns pretty much all of these TV performances and special shows that have been on ABC TV in the past. The Thanksgiving point of the release date for the get back project is pretty much a duplication of what they did for the Anthology isn't it? And now with ABC broadcast TV being an underdog in the streaming world, Disney Plus is the definite preferred channel for Disney to present it on. Bob Iger is from ABC in New York where he was the president from 1994 to 1995 and Disney then acquired ABC in 1996. He definitely saw the impact the Anthology made. Being both a fan, a business man and a big wheel at Disney he surely spearheaded this Get Back project for Disney. I wonder who was involved in the decision-making to have The Beatles' Shea stadium broadcast be on ABC TV. Maybe Bob was a fan back then, too. Born in February 1951 makes him a prime age candidate for fanboy status. Michael Eisner, was hired by ABC as Assistant to the National Programming Director. He is the former Chairman and CEO of Disney. So seems there IS some connection in this strange triangle between The Beatles, ABC TV and Disney. Personally, I'm waiting for the media deluxe package. I don't care for Disney programming. Maybe they could make a Beatles attraction as part of EPCOT England, I'd go see that!

Anyone can then challenge or complement his view with their own edit. I've been a Beatles fan for decades and I'm not willing to subscribe to anything and pay American kitsch dream moguls for getting access to Beatles music. The Beatles united people all over the world in a movement of joy and hope and enthusiasm. You didn't have to 'qualify' for Beatlemania. Yes, you had to spend some money, and more over the years, and even more in recent months, when fans who are not terribly well off may more than think twice about Pauls Explorer's edition or Georges crate of gnomes. When this project was 1st announced, I sent a message to Apple suggesting that Paul and Richard should consider doing a new recording of "Two of Us". The lines "You and I have memories ..." Being especially poignant in 2021. It could be simple and newly recorded, although it's also not unreasonable to suppose that they could use a Beatle out take for the backing track. Either would be a wonderful affirmation and addition to this project. Now that the project has expanded and the release date pushed back, I can only hope that they took this idea to heart...

      @FabFourArchivist  3 года назад +3

Hey Mark. Good to hear from ya. Yeah, I've gotta stop disappearing like that!
IMO here's how the distribution/streaming deal went down: Just like ABC had exclusive rights to the Anthology project (in the US anyway), Disney ponied up the best deal for distribution when Apple was shopping the project. I'd bet Netflix, etc. actually bid on the project, but Apple had big hopes that this would be a major in-person movie event. And who better than Disney for that?
Disney+ was probably part of the package the whole time (2 vs 6 hours), but when COVID happened, it was a fairly easy pivot to D+ for the whole thing.

I have a feeling that I will be thrilled to see the 6 hours of footage on Disney+ over Thanksgiving in glorious high-definition. I've got a bootleg of the "Let It Be" DVD and it does feel dark and claustrophobic except for the Rooftop Concert. I'm sure I will get this project on Blu-ray so I can revisit it many times in the future just like I do now with Anthology. I am a bit bummed that we won't get to see a two-hour cut in the theater. That would have been a fantastic communal experience. I won't complain over getting 6 hours via streaming service as long as we get a physical copy release. The main question I have is the situation with the super-deluxe version of the "Let It Be" album. Hundreds of hours of audiotapes can be culled for sonic gems that will delight the fans. I could see a release along the lines of The White Album content-wise. The main message for Apple is to shut up, put out the product we want, and take our money!

Same with The Band: The Last Waltz, a magnificent experience (twice) in a theatre with an audience. I was was over joyed I would get to see The Beatles Get Back, restored and re-edited, screened in A Theatre, with an audience. This is a major let down. Especially Post-Pandemic. Nice coverage about this on your part Lance.
I'm also hoping that maybe you have some inside information about the talk since around April 1st 2021 that there's another rare find of audio tapes from The Abbey Road Studios that were uncovered, about 6 months ago.
This isn't being publicized much but it was in a site called All About Jazz . com .
Anyone can look this article up and read it as it's quite epic when you understand what it actually is. They claim that they found a couple hours of audio recordings as Paul McCartney apparently rang up the famous jazz pianist Bill Evans in July of 1968 while the Beatles were working on the White Album. Evans was purportedly touring through London with his Trio in London and is known for the famous recording at Ronnie Scott's. McCartney decided to have a jazz jam session with him in the Abbey Road Studios.
The article states much in what apparently sounds like authenticated work that was done. It shows the track listings on the new album. Imagine hearing McCartney doing his famed ballad, Yesterday, with Bill Evans playing jazz piano in backing. Other famous numbers such as the Jazz hit Summertime, is sung by McCartney with Evans on piano, and his Trio of Eddie Gomez on base and Jack DeJonette on drums. Jazz aficionados and fans will just be so enamored to hear this if it's true.
Without even listing the site address, in hyperlink, that describes all this, you can look up the name above that I quoted, and search the album title - "Bill Evans: Hey Bill It's Paul From Abbey Road".
Hope to hear from you Lance and would would like to know what you think of this article in the All About Jazz site.
Thanks again for all your great research and posting here on RUclips about the Beatles history.

Dumb question (I don't watch much TV, streaming or otherwise) - if this debuts on Disney+ on Nov 25, 26, 27, is it likely to be watchable on Disney+ after the debut? Many family duties over Thanksgiving that could make it hard to watch for 2 hours straight 3 days in a row. Next dumb question - would there be anything unique to the first airing of the film that would not recur on later watching on Disney+?

Not dumb questions at all! Apple/Disney should be clearer in addressing them!
Typically with an "event" like this, the content will stick around for some time. Maybe not forever (just depends on the business deal they struck), but if you miss it's initial rollout, I'd say you'll still have at least months, if not a year to watch it.
As for unique content on the side, that's a great question. Usually that kind of thing appears as a live stream or EPK on as many platforms as possible to draw viewers to the source. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you for your speculations. As a UK citizen I wondered about Disney's timing; it is set to Thanksgiving Day. The band need to get the release of this project right first time to avoid flack from picky consumers. So 1st the big £30 book coming out in October, postponed 31st of August, 2nd the showing of six hours of footage on Disney + very late November, 3rd the multi-format boxed set with no release date so far. This will contain the 'de-Spectored' 'Let It Be' on CD and other digital formats, and on vinyl, several booklets, a restored 'Let it Be' film on blu ray, and the fullest version of 'Get Back' on blu ray. So far no scheduled cinema viewings, though some sort of select cinema premier for the right journalists and celebrities would be high profile publicity. No word on what might appear and when on youtube, and no advance notice on extra/different audio material, of which there must be tons, to made available in digital only. The only question left is how many questions the different formats might still leave unanswered for Beatles watchers. However free the hand is that the band have given director Peter Jackson, they left questions behind with Anthology and they may do so again with this project.
