Hoping over time they fill in the character sheets, allow tracking conditions, spells, etc on players there as well. Like if my Barb Rages, would be nice if it tracked the 10 rounds for me
There is a lot of room for improvement! I realllllly hope they add all that as well lol
As a DM I wish I could just click on the characters too and see the character sheet as well as the stat block of the Monsters.
100% SAMMMEEEEE
So that is one limitation, using the app I can see the PC and character sheet. So this is not available on the app only laptop?
Thank you, as a beginner d&d dm, this helps me a lot.
Of course! I am glad it helped! If you have any questions feel free to ask!
Excellent overview - just what I was looking for. Thank you.
You are welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the video! This is great info as i explore D&D Beyond space and all the tools. Only think i havent figured out yet is during the Encounter builder, rolling the Scimitar on a Goblin for example, can never find the details for the dice rolls to see if anything hits. Feel like im missing something easy!
Of course! Glad I could be of help! Can you clarify what your looking for specifically? I might be able to help!
@@ThisCrits I actually figured it out! I was using the beyond 20 chrome extension, which was blocking the Beyond encounter website from showing NPC rolls… who knew?! Thanks for the great content! Watched a bunch of it today :-)
Perfect explanation!
Thanks! I'm glad it helped!
AYO thanks, this will help me a lot to make it a bit more challenging for my players.
Of course! I am glad to help!
I just started using the encounter builder myself! I'm running Wild Beyond the Witchlight and Strixhaven over on Discord and it's so helpful. I'm sure even at the table for an in person game it's great too. I do wish there was a way to remove a dead monster because I keep having to skip over them in initiative order. Maybe there is? Great video btw - new subscriber 🤓
I agree 100% I love the encounter builder and have been using it since it was first released in person. But I am a very tech oriented DM so I am used to using a PC and tech during my game!
And yea, it definitley lacks some basic features that should be obvious but it still makes combat much smoother than pen and paper in my opinion hahah!
Thanks a bunch I'm really glad you enjoyed!
Thanks! That helped a lot. Going to give it a try for my next game.
Glad to help! Hopefully it works out for you!
I run a lot of premade adventures/one shots. To make things easier for me especially using the books, I name the encounter after the room/area they are listed in the book. Especially adding the number they appear in the book so I just go down the list a lot of times and saves a lot of time.
Also appreciate that my players in the campaign when they roll initiative in D&D Beyond, if I remember correctly it would fill it in for me. The encounter tool is a feature that has made running games so much easier for me.
Thats a great idea! The tool definitley isn't perfect so things like this make it so much easier to use!
I wish the players could see the order of initiative too, in online games. Otherwise we still need to make a separate list.
That would be super helpful for everyone! They need to add that!
Are the rolls on the characters sheets actually connected when you are on the same campaign? At least that is what i read, and if so how is it connected? Great video btw!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
And yes everything should be connected in the encounter builder. I forgot the mention that in the video but any rolls made on a charcter sheet should appear in the game log section on the top right of the page!
This is great on setting up the encounter, but how do you use it in the app? Can you even use this with the app? What do the player's see versus what the DM sees? What about homebrew monsters, can we build and use them?
When you say app are you refering to the phone app? If thats the case it is only available on the website as far as I am aware. The players simply see their character sheet and can roll from there on dndbeyond. As faras homebrew monsters go as long as you have created than they will be searchable in the monster list so you can add them easily!
cool! does D&DB Encounters interface with D&DB Maps?
I don't believe so. Currently the maps is feature is pretty bare bones
Thank you for doing this, I am a new DM and ran an encounter with many monsters, Goblins dressed as Yeti's on stilts, but I had a lot of trouble understanding how Dnd beyond grouped them I had normal monsters A, B, C, D and then then the second group that I had together had much higher hit points, same monster....have you had this happen to you, not sure how to fix it, it was very confusing.
Glad to help and welcome to the wonderful world of DMing!!! I'm have not experienced the problem your describing but you can manually adjust the hit points of creatures. Maybe try that to fix it temporarily?
is there a way to remove pc's from combat?
During combat, I don't believe so. You would need to go into edit mode and click on "manage characters" to do that.
How does giving out XP work once you're do with the encounter? is it automatic or do you manually input it somewhere?
I don't believe there is any place to "input" xp. It does track how much XP the encounter is worth butt it doesn't manually give it.
how do you keep track of conditions like prone?
Unfortunatley I don't believe that is currently possible.
how can i add spesific premade player characters in the encounter?
You cant add new PCs when running the encounter you have to do it during the encounter creation. When creating it you can manage character, add campaigns or manually add individual PCs.
@@ThisCrits I still can't figure it out , is it possible that you make a video about it in the future by any chance?
@@veigar1999 This video is old enough I may just remake the entire video and add the updated features! Ill work on it this week!
Stupid question how do go about sharing your dnd beyond books with your friends and if you can, can they use them to make their own character
Thats not a stupid question at all! You have to add your friends to a campaign and then they have to make characters for that campaign. You don't share it with friends you share it with "characters" that are a part of the same campaign.
