Steve, thank you for sharing this walkthrough. The current limitations (which haven't changed since GA as far as I can tell) are pretty severe and basically make this a non-starter for most enterprise use cases. No access to other datasets/dataflows in the Service, no email subscriptions, no telemetry, no file exports-I have to tell my client today that we're going to need to abandon our plan to use this feature. Are there any plans to fix this, and if so, what is the timeline for that?

This was very informative, but can you please share a video on how to configure this with our tenants?
    Thank you!

    Hi !
can you tell me for this interface card (nic) reference to the pbi private endpoint how many ips are assigned to it ? We have create the private link for powerBI/Fabric and this nic is consuming somehow 18 ips from the vnet. Can you tell me why? Thks so much for the help!

Good descriptive video. However i am still not able to access power bi with private link enabled, from my laptop even after installing and connecting to P2S VPN to the private link vnet. Can you suggest any video with instructions to do so? I am not able to setup DNS as on the VM, which might be the reason ?

The easiest method is to change your laptops DNS server to point to the DNS server you setup inside the virtual network. This is what I did to point my iPhone to that DNS server. Are you able to change the dns servers your laptop uses?

I'm actually struggling a bit earlier in the process. When I try to create a power bi resource using the template, I keep getting a badgateway error.

Weird. Are you making sure to enter the actual tenant id of your Power BI instance? Are you a Power BI admin for the tenant? Is your Azure subscription in the same tenant as your Power BI service is running in?

@@SteveWinward Thanks for the quick reply. I am the admin on all accounts. Currently, the Power BI (Pro) service is setup under one subscription and the VMs are setup under another subscription. That could be the problem. The Power BI subscription was setup under the xxx.onmicrosoft.com default account that they give you, so I am trying to add that to the subscription that has my VMs and other resources.

@@andrewmclaughlin2679 yea so my understanding is for this to all work you need to create the template in an azure subscription that is in the same tenant as your power bi tenant. If you have never signed up for a trial azure account you could create one in the Power BI tenant to test this out.

@@SteveWinward that would make sense. Thanks for the advice!

I'm revisiting this and have created a private link. The nslookup works just fine. However, I am getting an error (status code 403) when I go to disable public internet access. Any idea what the culprit might be?

Weird. Do you have the Power BI admin role assigned to your account? I’m assuming you see the error in the Power BI Admin portal?

@@SteveWinward power bi and global admin. And yeah, this is in the admin portal -> tenant settings

Hey Andrew. The only thing I can think for troubleshooting is to try disabling internet facing traffic both inside the VNET (ie PrivateLink) and outside the VNET just over a plain internet connection. I've only done this over a plain internet connection to disable internet facing traffic.
