Dok Koon was employed in the logging industry, and tragically, during this time, a log slipped from the chains and rolled onto her leg, breaking her ankle. Despite her injury, she was then moved into the elephant riding industry to service tourists.
Upon receiving information about her dire condition, our founder Lek Chailert and the team immediately mobilized to release her from her suffering.
On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, our team rescued Dok Koon from Surin province in Eastern Thailand. After an arduous journey of 27 hours, Dok Koon finally arrived at her new home in Elephant Nature Park. The soaring temperatures reached 40°C during the journey, and our veterinarian and rescue team provided plenty of food and water to keep Dok Koon hydrated. Thanks to our custom-built truck, Dok Koon was able to enjoy the cooling water from the onboard sprinkler system.
Upon arrival at ENP, Dok Koon was greeted by a welcoming committee of our resident rescued herd, who let out loud trumpets and welcoming rumbles to their newly rescued friend.
Dok Koon quickly settled into her new sanctuary life, free from harm, enjoying a refreshing swim followed by a mud bath. Her new life begins now!

Seeing animals that have been mistreated finally being given the respect they deserve is overwhelming.
Yes!
Nothing beats seeing the herd running to greet a newcomer.
Agree!
I know! I started tearing up. It's like they are saying..."Welcome! You're going to love it here!"
Seeing humans make the effort to care for this Elephant and bring her to a family of Elephants is what nothing beats.
I agree, how sweet the other elephants were! Teared me up a bit.
Very true!!
I’m sitting here a world away and I’m in tears ,hearing the other elephants trumpet and run to her is so so beautiful. Thank you to everyone looking after her on such a long trip ,she’s home and free and can now rest and play . God bless xox
I wonder what they’re saying. Clearly communicating.
Amen !
Absolutely 💯, such beautiful amazing animals 😊
Me too💙
Thank you for saving them and loving them. They all deserve respect, friendship and freedom.
Sadly, some of the elephants used in the logging industry are drugged so they will work longer hours. As humans, we domesticated certain species for our own benefit. These animals did not ask to be domesticated. We owe them the best treatment and respect. Not exploitation, neglect and abuse. God bless those who rescue and care for them. Keep up the good work.
*_At last she is home and free, thanks to your wonderful dedication and love ..._*
On my own.

*_What are you on about ..._*
You have to appreciate a person who says, 'I can no longer care for this animal' and gives it up to those who can. That takes a lot. 🙏
its like the welcome committee is saying "welcome to the happy place!"
Your comment reminded me of the RUclips channel Takis Shelter, in Greece. He rescues animals, mostly dogs, but he also rescues cats, goats, birds, etc. It's amazing to see the positive transformations the animals he saves make once they enter his shelter, and receive love, care, food, shelter, safety, and security with Takis, his volunteers, and all the other animal friends they make while there. The sad part is, though, is that he has SO MANY dogs, and not enough adopters. I think this channel and Takis Shelter are my two favorite channels on RUclips, for the wonderful and selfless work they all do to rescue, protect, and care for all these magnificent animals. ❤
@@SophieMia806 So true!!
Love your comment❤️
Welcome home
Grandma elephant has had a hard life. Here's to hoping her final years are spent in comfort, surrounded by new friends who love her.
Thank you for ALL you do for these Elephants!! ❤️🐘❤🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘
❤❤❤
Bless the owner for knowing he could no longer take care of her and turn her over to someone who could. She’s beautiful and deserves this retirement! Thank you for the rescue! ♥️🐘♥️
Thank you to everyone for saving Dok Koon and taking good care of her for the rest of her life.🙏🙏
Free at last. Thanks to all of you for helping that magnificent pachyderm.
She'll heal soon.
Makes my heart so happy to see Chana and her family come to greet Auntie Dokkoon. Such a beautiful sight to see!
Thank you all. Many blessings to each and every one who helped on this journey.
Even the babies are happy to see her!. Welcome home Dok Koon. From now on all you will know is love.
I'm so happy she has finally come home where she is safe and taken care of. Thank you Lek and to all the rescuers.
Safe and sound now. Thank you for sharing this wonderful moment with us.💝💝💝
Knowing a rescued elephant's back story prior to the rescue is truly painful and heartbreaking, but knowing that they are now at the beginning of a new and far happier life is so relieving. So happy that she is truly home now, with a family who awaits her coming and kind-hearted humans who never want to hurt her. God Bless You, Dok Koon. Thank you, Lek and ENP! May God Bless all your endeavors and mission.❤🐘❤
These people rescuing the elephants-such arduous work I admire and respect them. So wonderful to witness.
I'm so grateful this rescue foundation can help. It breaks my heart when any animal has to suffer. Thank you to all the volunteers
I love how they stopped along the journey to get her fresh food.
If only all humans were as caring and loving as Lek Chailert, what a wonderful world it would be.
I donate what I can to you all. I was asked once (this was a while ago..) why? Why do I give money to a place that's halfway around the world to help elephants, which I will likely never see outside a zoo - since I will NOT go to any circus that uses animals -
THIS. This is why. 💚🐘💚
Thank you.❤
Circus is a horrible thing
Amen
Well said 👍 and I wholeheartedly agree with every sentiment. Love from Scotland ❤️🏴
❤❤❤
I just love the welcoming committee 😀❤🐘
Our hearts weep and cheer at every new rescue like Dok Koon's coming home at ENP. Bless you all, thank you!
Finally doing what elephants are supposed to do. And that welcome... priceless
This is my community ❤ animal lovers ❤ thank you for this gentle soul
Precious Dok Koon, there’s no better welcoming committee than the one provided by other sweet ellies. 💖🐘
May she live the rest of her days in glory and happiness amongst her own
Free at last in paradise. Welcome home Dok Koon! Thankyou Lek and the team❤❤
It is just awesome to see humans come together to rescue this magnificent lady, especially after humans abused her! Thank you to all of those good people involved in finally getting her to a safe haven! 🐘💕
How beautiful, all the caretakers, thank you.
I've never cried so many tears at a RUclips video. I'm glad I'm alone! 😢❤
She looks bewildered. A few days to adjust to her new safe environment then we’ll see her shine.
❤ I just love how the other elephants rush to welcome her, telling she's free, safe and loved here, and she can start to heal. Another cracking good video thanks 🖤😎👍
The joy at watching this beautiful elephant get to do those natural behaviors, and soak in that water has my heart singing! Finally .... Finally, free to just be an elephant! God bless you all, and bless the herd! They welcomed her with open trunks! 😊😊
Ty for continuing this beautiful story of hope, resilience, love, and healing! I am so happy to witness the beginning of her healing in life! She so deserves the best life ever and I am sure you are providing it! Ty for the wonderful life purpose you all have. I am in awe of all the elephants and all the carers!
When she was in the river I swear she was smiling just like this ☺️
Elephants are the best 💕🐘💕
Those people who tortured this elephant are the worst.
@@PSNization 💯 agree
🎉🎉🎉 so nice to have an owner hand an elephant over. Ideally, it will happen sooner for them. Thank you rockstars for your honorable work. She is magnificent and deserves the freedom❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's heartwarming to see the herd greeting a newcomer. They are always so excited to make new friends 🧡
Thanks to all involved!!❤
They're saying "Come to our happy place. Your suffering has ended. Now you can be free and happy like us."
Happy animals are never hostile.

They do love the water and their mud baths! 🐘😍🙏🥰👏🏠
And another beautiful being finds safe haven and love at ENP, with a chorus of joyous new friends to welcome here home. Thank you thank you thank you - I weep with every being who experiences your help and love.
It's like they've been waiting for her her whole life 💕💞💕💞
Elephant should never be used to ride on or to be used for work especially heavy logs I'm so grateful but she doesn't have to do that stuff anymore and that she's reunited with her family that she's free God did not make elephants for these kind of things❤ thank you for your kindness and your compassion
I loved to see how she is welcomed by her new family! And to see how her food was gathered during the journey. A stressful event, but she surely knew that the people were doing something to help her. May she live a long and happy life in this elephant paradise! 👏🙏❤️🩹🪷
Dok Koon, enjoy your new life at ENP. You were super lucky to be offered a second chance at life. ENP is the best place fou you to spend the rest of your life. Lek and her wonderful staff will take care of your needs in a very caring and compassionate way. Have fun and make a lot of friends!!!!🥰🐘🍀🌟♥️🙏🏻🏡
There is something about seeing that truck rolling down the road that brings me to tears ❤
Yes. The beautiful music is timed perfectly to the visuals. Very evocative. That and the Old Lady's rough past combined with knowing she is going to be safe and cared for the rest of her life... make for an emotional piece, for sure.
I've been crying through the whole video ❤❤❤❤❤
That is the loveliest sound in the world to hear those elephants welcoming DK to her new home. If only all could be free. Bless them all
This touched me deeply, to my soul. Thank you for your love and compassion for these beautiful beings. ❤❤❤❤
Oh, such a warm welcome. 🤗🐘💖 Bless you all for saving another beautiful soul. 💕🙏💝
Simply beautiful. Thank you for the important work you do🤗🤗🤗
It's a shame that humans don't see this. Elephant is kindness and exceptional x be a kinder world, I love this video x
Thank you for doing the right thing and giving her up to a better place. She should not have had to suffer this long. Just thankful she is happy and in a wonderful home now.
Acts of Humanity like this helps to restore your faith in Mankind.
Respect to all those involved and those that reached out for help.
GrandMama is Home, she will now heal, make new friends and
live out the rest of her years in a caring loving environment.
Onwards and Upwards Dok Koon now is your time.
Mummy Lek is here sweet elephant. Your now safe ❤
Dok Koon is free!!!!Yahoo!!!!!Thank you for what you do! :)
I don't understand how any human could ride an elephant at all, let alone one with an obvious injury.
Thank you to ENP for giving her the rest of her life, in love and freedom ❤️
I had a colleague who was going on holiday to that neck of the woods and I asked her not to ride elephants when she was in Thailand - she rudely told me to mind my own business. That is a sad testament to the "entitled" tourist types that go to these places and I am sure I have seen videos from ENP where tourists torment the Ellie's as they ride down the river. Selfish gits the lot of them! 😡💔🏴
tears of happiness for her 😢😢😢
My friend you're not alone. Tears of joy came down my face. At 63yrs old I feel like a happy go lucky child.
God bless you all for your kindness ❣️
It’s amazing to see all the other elephants running over to see the new one

The kindness and intelligence one sees in Dok Koon's eyes, brings tears to mine. Thank you for answering the calls for help that these elephant's owners are making. One can only hope elephant ownership will soon be a thing of the past.

That was a beautiful moment captured on video, the enthusiasm of the the ellies coming to greet their new friend was heartfelt!
this one made me cry. the group running up to greet her, the fact she never has to deal with the pain and neglect again. Thank for all you do, one wonderful elephant at a time. May she recover quickly, decompress and enjoy her new life.
Just look at all the other elephants coming to greet her. That is absolutely amazing and so very sweet.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A good man to recognize when he needs help with his elephant. It made my day to see her in the river.
She can live the rest of her life in freedom with loving friends around her. Thank you! ❤❤🐘

Wasn't he the owner that used her up?
@@1pipandgooseof course he was... And he was wearing a huge necklace of elefant bones (not ivory) with
an amount of amulets...

@@veroniqueboulvard6315 Oh that's horrible!
@@veroniqueboulvard6315I saw that as well. He spoke with an arrogance about him that screamed ‘I don’t wanna deal with her anymore’. At least she’s in a way better place now tho ❤
Awww. She is so happy and I love the way the herd was so excited to see her. She will finally have a wonderful life.
Welcome home little one! Welcome to the best years of your life. May there be many happy days ahead!
The music, the story, the elephant😢 may she blossom in this wonderful place. I loved her welcoming commitee. Thank you ENP. ❤❤❤❤❤

Sweetness. 💚
I'm crying with some sadness and a lot of happiness. These animals are so precious. Thanks to all involved with saving her.
I feel so compelled to watch these beautiful rescues. Welcome HOME Dok Koon!
Thank you to the old owner for being honest enough to recognise that you couldn’t be responsible for her anymore and calling the sanctuary for help. She deserves so much more…. The sanctuary can provide that. They are truly amazing people.
Are you serious? What's wrong with you thanking that man? He got rid of her because she was finally of no use to him. He abused her and used her up. How dare you thank him after what he's done. You are extremely misguided and delusional. And all those thumbs up. I know many of you are completely mindless but this take the cake. Phuket up.
