This is what happened at Sporting in the first couple transfer windows. He did the exact thing, we had so many bad players at the club at high wages (for a club like Sporting). After that, we took the league by storm. Amorim knows what he is doing and I think that is what is happening. Losing shows the board, the fans that there are no excuses. It’s just bad and facing the true. The solution? Back Amorim, get players and slowly and trust me it’s gonna take a long time, it will change
It’s not even about him. It’s about whether the club gets it or not. At this point, United have had quite a few good managers take charge and none of them have been able to make it work well enough. Those deadwood players spread their rot to every player that United sign. You gotta cut out the rot from the inside out. No wonder everyone comes to United suddenly turns to shit if they still keep all the problem players from every previous manager.
Big difference with Sporting tho, United gets lots of media attention (comparable with Madrid)and has fans all around the world. And lets not forget that United is also makes lots of decisions based on economics because its also one of the biggest clubs financially. You cant go at it like you went at Sporting because of the difference of pressure. Sooner or later it will be bye bye + i dont understand why he is not a fan of 4-3-3, i mean almost every big coach showed its one of the best formations and has succes with it and now he has players who cant do shit.
I had to check where Sporting were before Amorim was appointed. Basically, the 4 managers before him never finished worse than 3rd in the league in the 6 seasons prior. Amorim finished 4th in his first season and in 2022/23. For all this talk about his brilliance, I genuinely thought he took over a mid-table side. So, I'm a bit confused here. How is it that Sporting had so many bad players that they consistently finished in the top 3?
@@tonykivancExactly. Because of that media attention that's why what he did to Zirkzee as disgraceful. He fed the young lad to the wolves. The fans were already getting on to him and he sacrificed the boy for his stupid team selection. Who ever thought Zirkzee would play well in the 10. No one. Played him there to accommodate that scrub in the 9. Amorim is proving to be no better than ETH. Depending on the same scrubs. How are Hojlund and Garnacho getting more game time than Zirkzee and Antony in this system?
@@emmanuelpeter6894 agree, wait 10 min and you can get him out without destroying him. Sometimes the managers make themselves more important than they are i guess. You dont see Ancelotti doing it or a Pep.
It’s rotten to the core. You basically have to kick out over half the squad and start from scratch. You also need to kick out most of the management. They made all the wrong decisions up to this point. When they had the chance for a fresh start, they kept in Ten Hag and gave him another hundreds of millions which can only be described as the greatest sunken cost fallacy in football. They’ve sacked him then and brought in a system manager in the middle of the season. Amorin doesn’t have the players nor the time for his system and he HAS to do a ten hag and play counter attacking anti football with these lot or I am 100% serious they will get relegated. They should have sacked Ten Hag in the summer. Now they should have given Van nistelroy the job till next summer, stabalize the ship and bring in Amorim at the end of the season with new players and a pre season
Man United for years have been trying to put a band-aid on a festering shotgun blast. They should've secured Amorim for next season and allow Ten Hag to see this season out.
@@IceMurder666 It would make no difference whether Ruud stayed for the rest of the season or not. It's better that Amorim actually assesses these players close up for s few months before the season ends. It makes it much easier for him to identify who to sell and who to keep.
Lawrence you are absolutely spot on, it’s not a coincidence there hasn’t been one consistently good player at Manchester United for the last 10 years nor manager. If United ever want to get back to the top it must start with removing the glazer family
I don’t think you gave Newcastle United the credit they deserve tbh. Their front 5 of Isak, Gordon, tonali, Bruno G and Joelinton are CL quality and would be as good as any of the top teams in the PL.
Agreed but they were honestly given far too much credit last night. Yes they deserved to win but they weren’t that great either tbh and a decent team would’ve scored at least 2 if not 3 (the chances Utd missed) against them
The Glazers see United as a franchise that can make them a stack of cash , not primarily a football club. Therefore , United stopped being a well run football club. It’s a club culture thing.
exactly, me too 😂. Laurens has this way of putting things into perspective that is calming and reassuring for you to understand what's really going on, and i love it.
A few years ago I worked at Manchester United as a contractor. I'm not a united fan, I'm actually a rival fan, most people that work there aren't united fans either. It's run as a business, they aren't bothered who you support, just that you do your job and are loyal. That's how it is at most big football clubs. On day one they say to you, don't turn up in your football tops. We don't care. And people respect that. I was asked to go around a guy's house, he worked for United all his life. He fell on hard times and was unable to work. United put him in one of their own houses, and looked after him. Everybody knew he wouldn't work again. And everybody knew he would be allowed to stay. There are good people at that club, well when I was there anyway. But things change. And people have to do as they are told. United are not what they were and are at risk of losing their identity.
The thing is, United have let the rot spread from inside their squad for years now and that has a compounding effect. It literally doesn’t matter who the manager is if you insist on keeping the same problem players year in year out. They should just stick to whoever they think is suitable to the job and think long-term. Pay to terminate the contracts of the deadwood. It’s worth the money. You can afford to pay them off, but you cannot afford to let their bad influence trip you up anymore. Thats only the first step and they HAVE TO do it or else they’ll be stuck in this cycle perpetually.
The problem is that this is looking at ManU through a football lens, not a business one. United are no longer the no.1 glamour club, no longer the club with the biggest chequebook able to hoover up the best players. They are more than a decade behind the other big clubs when it comes to rebuilding their stadium and facilities - this will swallow up a huge amount of money for years to come - and that's just to keep up. All those sponsors are going to wonder why they are playing a premium to have their names associated with a club in decline. It will take years to cut their expenditure to their 'real' financial status.
I don’t see it Lawrence. Don’t put down to maliciousness what can be explained by stupidity. Ineos pulled the trigger on Ten Hag either too quickly or too slowly, they should have done it in the summer when a preseason would have allowed them to bed in a new style of play that Amorim is so attached to he was turned down by other clubs. His bad picks on players is down to putting square pegs into round holes. They have zero wing backs, no central defenders that are comfortable in a 3 and a distinct lack of depth in midfield. They are making fundamental errors because they are playing a system that they are either incapable of or not ready for. That’s down to bad planning and bad management at all levels of the club.
My main issue is that our ownership doesn’t have the ambition or financial capability to change the club and they haven’t since they put club in debt since the first day they came in, Van Gaal described the club as a “commercial club” and that has always stuck with me, Mourinho described his achievements as the greatest of his career, Cristiano coming out publicly on numerous occasions telling us to our face what the problems were but yet fans and the media described them as bitter, proof is in the pudding
@@ozzer2010 all the money united have spent is money the CLUB has generated not the glazer family, they have mismanaged the club by allowing incompetence in terms of people in charge of scouting and signing along with not following/having a structure plus giving the manager the ability to follow through with the project like Ferguson was. Perfect example is at Liverpool as the stewardship of club was exceed past Klopp and fsg made sure the clubs overall situation was suitable for another manager to come into p, the stark opposite of moyes in 2013
I don't often comment, but I'm absolutely loving your content Laurence. I follow a couple other United youtubers and still whenever your videos pop up, I'm just that bit more excited to see your takes. Love the stances you're taking and the insights you're providing (being as objective as possible while still being a liverpool fan). Best of luck for the coming year, I hope you grow to newer heights!
Really great insight Lawrence, for a Liverpool fan, you somehow know more about and give better input thatn a lot of our fans Hope to see you and Mark Goldbridge on podcast together soon, Gid bless, keep up the great work 🙏💯
As a Man Utd fan it's also worth noting the number of incredible academy players we have that are 15-18 years old, they're not quite ready for first team but should coincide with the club reset. Names include: Ibraghimov, Biancheri, Chido, Scanlon, Fletcher, Kukonki, Amass and many more.
The optimistic view of what is happening at United is that Amorim is seeing who can play his system, and doesn't really care if that means the team lose a lot. It's more important to actually get clear data than to half-ass it by playing a different system in order to avoid a little embarrassment. Let the world see just how mediocre this squad is, and let them also see who has the mettle to fight for the shirt through all the pain. Then build for 25-26. (The pessimistic view is that he's just totally out of his depth, ofc.).
The Casemiro Erikson combo was a weird one..I presumed it was because he was managing mainoos game time after injury ( and TBF he's been below par since his return)..the booing/ jeering of zirksee was a disgrace..not something you see often..I'm not sure wether zirksee will be good enough..but even some world class players have had poor first seasons in the PL..INEOS.. wanted a system manager to play in a certain way ( more control, less transitional) bringing in Amorim at that point in the season was always going to be a risk..just got to bite the bullet and back the manager
I think Amorim is using this as a preseason to test the players. The set up, the switching, etc. are all a result of his preseason plan. And it should end after Arsenal on 1/12. After that, the first season under Amorim begins.
Ineos are not allowing Amorim to buy anyone in January so it does not seem like Ineos have a plan, other than cut costs and reduce spending. The results on the pitch are going to stay the same
The issue is and always has been the owners. Cassimiro and erikson are payed more then Liverpool 3 midfielders. We have had over 10 years of mismanagement leading us to this financial trouble . We are stuck with duds as they have high wages and we can't move then on.
The problem with rashford is ultimately that rashford isn't good enough. Forget his team, or who surrounds him. He's just not good enough. If he didn't have a British passport, he'd be gone.
One of the major problems that is starting to emerge is that Amorim (LFC dodged a bullet) plays a style for which the squad is not fit. Members of that squad have huge contracts over long periods. Those same players know that if Amorim stays, they will go. There is a battle now to see if the players can get rid of Amorim before he gets rid of them.
Amorim's system would have worked at Liverpool because they have quality players and haven't struggled with fitness issues. In contrast, Manchester United had fitness problems under Ten Hag, and it's unrealistic to think you can resolve fitness issues mid-season without the entire campaign falling apart.
Amorim's system would have worked fine at Liverpool. They have 3 quality CBS - Konate, Van Dijk, Gomez. Trent was born to be a Wing back. Robertson may have need replacing. Gravenberch and MacAllister would be perfect in the middle. Salah as a 10 is a terrifying prospect, with Sobazai as the other one. Then Jota or Nunez up top.
Amorim wont get time. He has at best 6 weeks left. The schedule does not ease up. He was the completely wrong choice of manager for that club at this time.
I heard that players have created a groupism within the club, i am not sure that is the case or not but if this is true then no manager can do anything at this point
The lfc decline in many ways was based on the club being poorly run commercially, hence we always had inferior transfer budgets compared to MU, as an lfc fan i sometimes look on with envy at the financial backing MU managers post ferguson era have received, compared to klopp (im not wanting to start an argument here, just quoting the net spend table). Squad spending still has never been the problem at mu, its baffling how nearly every football based decision they make is so poor, eg, who would spend 60 million on say Mount when the whole world knew chelsea needed to sell, his contract expiring, and injury prone to boot, unbelievable !
Amorim has equalled the worst-ever league start by a Manchester United manager in the club’s history. Only two other managers have lost five of their first eight league games at United. The last manager to do so was John Chapman 103 years ago in December 1921; the other was AH Albut way back in October 1892.
It makes sense for United to do this now whilst they are so far down the table, if they were 8th or higher, the bosses would want more band aids to cover cracks so they can try to compete to earn them the most money. Now they've realised there's no chance this season so it gives Amorin the chance to run through his squad and actually show people the door who simply aren't good enough for the club. It won't be fixed this summer I think it will take two summer transfers to see some significant difference but there will be visible improvements next season
But that doesn't make sense financially. Why damage your own product and reputation? And if it was then why would they entertain the risk of getting relegated if it gets worse?
@joshbracken5450 They won't get relegated the teams below them are even worse. And it's not a point of United wanting to do this, they need this to happen otherwise they'll never improve. There are too many players that are either paid too much, have an attitude problem or who are simply not good enough. They've never faced the real issues and it's got worse and worse each year, so they need this "open heart surgery" to actually fix the issue once and for all
@robbiedavey2439 they are only 7 points away for 18th place and 8 from 19th with half the season remaining. They've lost 5 prem games out of the last 6. Maybe 6 out of the next 7 with the game on Sunday. They aren't immune from relegation if this form keeps up. Even Ipswich are picking up a random win here or there.
@joshbracken5450 Southampton is pretty much nailed on to be relegated, so the real battle is between Leicester, Wolves, Everton, Palace and Ipswich. My prediction is Leicester will go and then it will be between Wolves and Ipswich. Everton, Palace and United squads have quality individuals that will keep the teams out of relegation. And by the same logic they are only 7 points from being 7th and fighting for a European spot. They are in relegation form, but I feel they already have a decent gap between the bottom 3 to start worrying and panicking about being relegated
@robbiedavey2439 I know what you're saying but I don't see where they are guaranteed any wins. They have some tough fixtures coming up. I personally don't think they will but they could certainly be in a relegation fight. Sooner rather than later. We'll see it played out. Either way it's gonna be a interesting half of the season for UTD.
I think a lot of level headed fans were ready for the pain. I was ready for it because Ruben told us it was going to be painful. That there would be poor results. That we'd see an "idea", but the application will take time, money, and bodies. Seeing it in action was fun. We scored in the opening minute against Ipswich after all. Beat City, comebacks in Europa, etc. But this is still a squad of misassembled parts that doesn't contain either the technical skill required to be a top club OR the athleticism required to make up for that lack of technical skill. Club needs an overhaul. The club, and the Glazers specifically, need to take their medicine. January will be a mess with the fixtures out there, but I'm hopeful things turn in February, they find something resembling form, and they can put some of the application into the "idea" that Amorim has.
I feel like Man United as a club have refused to make difficult decisions with the players for the last 10 years and it's culminated in this. You'd never see this type of culture with the players under Fergie and that was mainly because it didn't matter if you were Beckham or Ronaldo, he was ruthless but... it lead to success.
7 points of a relegation place and to gamble on new manager system is a good idea until it don’t work. But you honestly see midfielders have not got the legs, young lads are still learning. No goal scorer to get them over the line. Nothing. No Ronaldo no pogba no stem of a team,
There is this thing that happens when managers are appointed to big jobs and then struggle: suddenly some people create a revisionist history of their past tenures to try and explain away their achievements. I observed this with Ten Hag, and I am seeing it again with Amorim. Some people are starting to say that "Gyokeres made him," or that "he finished fourth twice with Sporting," therefore he is actually a shit manager. In his "first season" (2019/20), Amorim was brought in during March of 2020. Prior to that point, Sporting were in a downward spiral. They had gone through three managers (Marcel Keizer, who was sacked in September, with the team in 7th, then an interim manager, and then Silas, who had left the team in a dismal 4th when he was sacked. In addition, there was a huge bust-up at Sporting's training ground in 2018, in which fans attacked and injured several players, namely Bas Dost and Gelson Martins. Amorim was hired off the back of a mere 13-game stint at Braga, in which he won the Taca da Liga (equivalent of the Portuguese League Cup) and achieved a 76% win percentage. Obviously, that was a tiny sample size, but Sporting were desperate, and took a major gamble on him. Amorim stabilized Sporting, and finished out the season in 4th with 60 points. At that point, no one really knew what to make of Amorim, as he had managed so few games, and didn't even have his coaching badges (I think). The next season, 2020/21, Sporting won the league with 85 points, and nearly went undefeated as well. They achieved this victory by having the best defense in Portugal with 20 goals conceded, as well as a lot of gritty performances in which they won games by one-goal margins, or last-gasp winners. Keep in mind, this was largely the same team that had finished with 25 fewer points the previous campaign. The next season, Sporting also achieved 85 points, but finished second to Porto, who were ridiculously good, and finished with a whopping 91 points. In addition, Sporting did not have the best of European campaigns, but Amorim's quality was clear to see. He was also changing Sporting tactically, as they were moving away from Pedro Goncalves being their primary goal scorer/assister. Moreover, Sporting scored 8 more goals than their previous title-winning season. In the 2022/23 season, I will agree that they performed worse, but again, key context is left out. In the summer transfer window, Sporting lost Nuno Mendes, Joao Palhinha, and Matheus Nunes, who were critical to Amorim's style of play. They also lost Zouhair Feddal, who provided depth in defense. To try and replace these players, Sporting brought in Jeremiah St. Juste and Hidemasa Morita. Morita would go on to become a key player for Amorim's side. In addition, Amorim was able to elevate players such as Ugarte and Geny Catamo. This evolution of Amorim's side and tactics bore fruit the following season, in which Sporting won the league with 90 points. They also scored 96 goals, a whopping 31 more than the tally that won them the title in 2020/21. I also must add that before the 2023/24 season, Sporting lost Pedro Porro and Manuel Ugarte, along with talented youngster Youssef Chermiti. Obviously, Gyokeres and Hjulmand were brought in, and they massively helped Sporting, but it is clear how Amorim changed Sporting regardless. In addition to these two league titles, Amorim also won two Taca Da Liga titles, and firmly established Sporting as the best team in Portugal. Finally, we go into the 2024/25 season, where Sporting continued their dominance, and announced themselves to the mainstream by crushing Man City in the Champions League. There are definitely critiques that can be made of Amorim, but let's at least be honest when we talk about him.
Ineos has screwed United for the next decade by signing Amorin. We'll spend 3 years trying to learn a new system, suffering a run of horrible defeats in a few years and he'll be sacked. As there aren't many managers playing that system, it'll take 2-3 years to ship out the players bought for Amorin's system. 3 years more for any success, assuming that goes well. Nightmare upon nightmare.
Manchester United need to be studied in how you can turn one of the biggest clubs in world football both on and off the pitch and literally blow hundreds of millions of pounds on football players who almost instantly become much much worse than what they were before
As a man utd fan I think going down to the championship might be good for the club as it will get the players on big wages out of the club and you can use more youth can more hungry players not on silly wages.
Liverpool were never did bad during their unsuccessful years. I don't see how Man Utd get out of this with the current owners and FFP restrictions. If they improve they'll be as good as Spurs.
My theory is Man U was such a money train that everyone from the glazers to Fergie, his son, woodward, managers, players took a scoop. Exploited and sucked dry. It didnt matter who you signed, as long as everyone gets a taste.
United might be a mess! But just like last season, they will probably wreck our season! Anfield (0-0). 30 odd shots and no goals! And we also lost the league at Old Trafford last season let us not forget! 2-2 (missed about 30 chances) and the FA Cup 4-3 (again salah in particular missed a sackful of chances!). Don't count our chickens Reds! Salah in particular goes off the boil in the second half of the season! And Nunez still can't hit a barn door with a banjo! 🫣🫣🤒
Amorim might be an incredible individual, who might be an excellent choice for a team in Portugal. There’s absolutely no reason to expect his style of play will work in England, even if ManUTD buys every player at Sporting Lisbon. 3-4-3 has probably been successful once in the PL, under Conté @Chelsea. It’s not just an issue of current ManUTD players, 3-4-3 is NoT gonna work in the PL
The hell are you talking about? Wolves under Nuno punched above their weight off a solid base of a 3-4-3. Chelsea won the Champions League with a 3-4-3. Any system can work in any league if the players understand it. Remember when everyone in England was convinced 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 would never work and only a 4-4-2 did?
@ thanks for copy-pasting what I just said. I already said Conté’s was the exception that proves the rule. There’s a reason it only worked once. Nuno is doing well in a season other teams are imploding. 3-4-3 doesn’t work in PL. please prove me wrong, rather be wrong if it means my team is successful
Couldn’t agree more. As an Arsenal fan, it’s going to be painful, and will continue to be so until one day it’s not-all part of “the process” Also, you’re one of the few incredibly talented football experts working today. Keep it up!
This season is a write off. So long as we stay in the league, i am ok with Amorim using this season to experiment with the players he has. Obviously we want to win every game, but human-beings have the ability to avoid instant gratification for long term gain, for a reason. And Zirkzee was booed off because he dropped a 0/10 performance. He was Abysmal. He doesn't represent a thing.
One reason I continue to come back to this channel is because of attempted objectivity of yours Laurence. I’m an Arsenal fan and one thing is highly accurate, is how for the longest of time United fans have perceived some of their players to be great due to this immense intangible hope to revive or relive the glory days. I’ve always held the informed opinion having also been through this at Arsenal but just objectively watching United fans just become fanatical towards some of the players who when placed in context outside of one season or just propaganda aren’t great players. They’re average and it’s being showcased. I was mystified and shocked when United fans happily threw Ronaldo for Ten Hag and his fixations. I mean called Ronaldo what you want but undoubtedly he’s more complete complete then HALAAND. I always ask myself if Ronaldo had gone to City just how he’d have dominated far beyond HALAAND in that setup. Just now United have the very same players they happily chose over Ronaldo. I mean you let go of the greatest players who actually pulled his weight and say what you want but his aiming for 1000 goals. At United they sent him in body bag and well now they don’t have goals yet investment was made. Also they were shouts other players would flourish now that Ronaldo was gone. I mean the propaganda around RONALDO was insane. Basically United fans pulled a Kennedy type a assassination and well ladies and gentlemen the declassification is way underway. I feel bad for the manager but I do believe his definitely the one to hopefully just rebuild United away from the Fergie days nostalgia and definitely away from Fan pressure because hey these are the same fans who sent Ronaldo away somehow believing that those players were made worse by Ronaldo. Just bizarre stuff at Manchester United…
There should be a better way to improve this team without destroying it first. Because you are a billionaire doesn't mean you're qualified to fix this team.
I'll take getting relegated with Amorim if that's what it takes to turn this club around. I'm tired of the same headlines, the same results and the same excuses. Amorim is the man. No player is above him in the pecking order. He has my support and I believe the vast majority of United fans support in what he has to do.
Personally I think that Ronaldo is the problem. Once Ronaldo is gone, United will be able to press high and allows Rashford to unleash his full potential.
This makes me think, what is the most wanky term in football? "Rebuild". This team needs to REBUILD! I'm no Manchester United fan. And, maybe i'm being a bit dramatic. But after Munich. THAT WAS A REBUILD! Overspending on £400m worth of players. And then needing to sell those players, to buy new players. Is that a "rebuild"? Or is that just bad business. And on a slight tange (that's what the kids are calling tangents these days). What were fans of Villa saying before Emery? "not fit to wear the shirt". "sell sell sell". "Reeeeeeebuild!!!" And lo and behold. The Messiah from the Basque. Given more time in his first season, could have made a push for the European spots. The same players! The issue is partly players. But if you buy a £30m+ player. One would suspect they have seen a football, and may have even kicked one as well.. But me being an out of shape, off brand Bane. I just want to watch Manchester Utd collapse and burn.. I only want them to compete in the Europa Conference league from now on. With stupid away days to teams no one has heard of. A 9pm kick off at Dynamo Kebab in minus 12 degree weather. That would be Eden for me.
From ChatGPT-Manchester United's struggles can be attributed to a combination of factors, including: 1. Poor Recruitment and Squad Building The club has spent heavily in the transfer market, but many signings have failed to live up to expectations. A lack of cohesive strategy has resulted in an imbalanced squad with inconsistent performances. 2. Managerial Instability Frequent changes in management since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement have led to inconsistent tactics and philosophy. Each manager has had different visions for the team, resulting in a lack of continuity. 3. Ownership and Leadership Issues Criticism of the Glazer family's ownership has been widespread, with fans arguing that their focus on commercial gains has come at the expense of footballing success. A lack of footballing expertise at the executive level has led to questionable decisions. 4. Decline in Player Standards Several players have underperformed despite their talent or price tag. A perceived lack of leadership and accountability on the pitch has been a recurring issue. 5. Competition and Modernization Rivals like Manchester City, Liverpool, and others have modernized their operations and footballing structures, leaving United behind. The club has struggled to adapt to modern football trends, such as data-driven recruitment and tactical flexibility. 6. Cultural and Psychological Factors The weight of expectations and the shadow of past glories often seem to burden the team. The club lacks a winning mentality and resilience that characterized their success under Ferguson. While Manchester United remains one of the world's biggest clubs, returning to their former heights will require addressing these systemic issues comprehensively.
Once more, another pundit talking about getting rid of players, while ignoring the HOW. Huge wage contracts expiring 2007/2008 brought in on bloated prices. Not to mention these players are mediocre or underperforming. Name teams who’ll sign on these terms.
Is it not fair to say United were poor pre fergie and are just going back to where they were post Fergie … money help but does not guarantee you titles
I mean it’s not hard to understand what is happening. Shit players, and on top of that one dimensional therefore can’t even adapt to Amorim. Once he buys players that can actually play top tier football we can start judging.
United have a terrible squad. other than Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad, Yoro and perhaps Bruno, none of the others would get into top 7-8 teams. Even these players are hardly world beaters.
Happy new years Loz❤ Why do "you" brits say Sir Jim aso? I can understand it if one is a United fan or the person deserves respect. To me the whole idea of being sired?is dividing the people. I mean even Southgate!! What has he done to deserve it?

Soon as Radcliffe sacked the kit man and the club's long-term inhouse historian I knew they were doomed.
We should have had a fresh start with a full sale. Glazers 2.0
Sadly, that all makes far too much sense 😂
Man United for years have been trying to put a band-aid on a festering shotgun blast. They should've secured Amorim for next season and allow Ten Hag to see this season out.
Nah, they should have allowed Ruud to see the season out.
Allowed Ten Hag see the season out? What are you? 10?😂
Your experience from Liverpool in the 90s makes your analysis of the situation at United today simply outstanding. Thank you, much appreciated.
Grab your popcorn because the rest of this year's gonna be a wild ride
All 10 hours of it.
I don’t think you gave Newcastle United the credit they deserve tbh. Their front 5 of Isak, Gordon, tonali, Bruno G and Joelinton are CL quality and would be as good as any of the top teams in the PL.
True, but he is talking about Manchester uniteds squad
Agreed but they were honestly given far too much credit last night. Yes they deserved to win but they weren’t that great either tbh and a decent team would’ve scored at least 2 if not 3 (the chances Utd missed) against them
who cares
The Glazers see United as a franchise that can make them a stack of cash , not primarily a football club. Therefore , United stopped being a well run football club. It’s a club culture thing.
Loving the content Laurence, wishing you and the family a happy new year 🎉
I’m here for counselling as you are calm headed when talking about us 😂
exactly, me too 😂.
The phoenix doesn't rise until it turns into ashes. Trust me , we are yet to turn into ashes .
As a 50 plus year united fan, best commentary I have heard in aquite a while. I see it as a 5-10 year project.
My main issue is that our ownership doesn’t have the ambition or financial capability to change the club and they haven’t since they put club in debt since the first day they came in, Van Gaal described the club as a “commercial club” and that has always stuck with me, Mourinho described his achievements as the greatest of his career, Cristiano coming out publicly on numerous occasions telling us to our face what the problems were but yet fans and the media described them as bitter, proof is in the pudding
man united are one of the biggest spenders in world football why do you not think they have the "financial capability"
You 🤡
@@ozzer2010 all the money united have spent is money the CLUB has generated not the glazer family, they have mismanaged the club by allowing incompetence in terms of people in charge of scouting and signing along with not following/having a structure plus giving the manager the ability to follow through with the project like Ferguson was.

Thanks Sean! I really appreciate it! Hope you have a good new year too!
Absolutely spot on great analysis
Really great insight Lawrence, for a Liverpool fan, you somehow know more about and give better input thatn a lot of our fans
Hope to see you and Mark Goldbridge on podcast together soon, Gid bless, keep up the great work 🙏💯
I appreciate that the labored comparison and it's unsatisfactory outcome matches the team's performance on the pitch.
You're right. Our humiliating losses can't be too many though. We will face relegation zone if we can't get some wins early in 2025.
Love your content, thank you for some sensible analysis
Trust the process…
The problem with rashford is ultimately that rashford isn't good enough. Forget his team, or who surrounds him. He's just not good enough. If he didn't have a British passport, he'd be gone.
part of the problem is that united fans are like benfica fans, little children dreaming of the past
Great watch as always 👊🏿, cheers to 2024 Loz 🫡
And?
The Casemiro Erikson combo was a weird one..I presumed it was because he was managing mainoos game time after injury ( and TBF he's been below par since his return)..the booing/ jeering of zirksee was a disgrace..not something you see often..I'm not sure wether zirksee will be good enough..but even some world class players have had poor first seasons in the PL..INEOS.. wanted a system manager to play in a certain way ( more control, less transitional) bringing in Amorim at that point in the season was always going to be a risk..just got to bite the bullet and back the manager
who cares
he’s managing the worst players so i don’t blame him
It makes sense for United to do this now whilst they are so far down the table, if they were 8th or higher, the bosses would want more band aids to cover cracks so they can try to compete to earn them the most money.
You should run a support group for Man U fans. I’d go
I think a lot of level headed fans were ready for the pain.
They need a long painful process in the championship
Don’t say that mate, it’d take us years to get out of there. Painful enough as it is
He did say storm is coming
Great piece of analysis.
Casemiro and Erikson had to play because, unfortunately, our captain got another silly sending off and was banned.
And mount was inured and ugarte was out also. No one else to go to.
Getting rid of staff is not under sporting control. Its the glaziers who are doing that.
My theory is Man U was such a money train that everyone from the glazers to Fergie, his son, woodward, managers, players took a scoop. Exploited and sucked dry.
It didnt matter who you signed, as long as everyone gets a taste.
This guy is not wrong, far from it.
Last season United defenders actually knew how to jump
Give the guy a chance, he's got players he rather not have, and a new system.Vital injuries and suspensions for the Newcastle game.
Most Man United fans have moved on to the "Acceptance" stage of grief. This guy is still stuck at "Denial"
Your the most positive man united fan that's not a man united fan
As an Arsenal fan, it’s going to be painful, and will continue to be so until one day it’s not-all part of “the process”
Also, you’re one of the few incredibly talented football experts working today.
"Reeeeeeebuild!!!"
And lo and behold.
The players are not good enough, due to a poor recruitment policy.
ha when i went to ghana in 2015, many people told me how ancient magics have swallowed man united. the sharmans will always win loz sir
INEOS kept the cancer in the club, the media lapped up the local lad Jim. Full sale only, INEOS/GLAZERS out
Get rid of the bizarre multiple owner nonsense, get rid of a multiple boss nonsense, one clear leader one clear mentality, that is all you need.
Liverpool & Arsenal next…. Good luck!
From ChatGPT-Manchester United's struggles can be attributed to a combination of factors, including:
1. Poor Recruitment and Squad Building
The club has spent heavily in the transfer market, but many signings have failed to live up to expectations.
A lack of cohesive strategy has resulted in an imbalanced squad with inconsistent performances.
2. Managerial Instability
Frequent changes in management since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement have led to inconsistent tactics and philosophy.
Each manager has had different visions for the team, resulting in a lack of continuity.
3. Ownership and Leadership Issues
Criticism of the Glazer family's ownership has been widespread, with fans arguing that their focus on commercial gains has come at the expense of footballing success.
A lack of footballing expertise at the executive level has led to questionable decisions.
4. Decline in Player Standards
Several players have underperformed despite their talent or price tag.
A perceived lack of leadership and accountability on the pitch has been a recurring issue.
5. Competition and Modernization
Rivals like Manchester City, Liverpool, and others have modernized their operations and footballing structures, leaving United behind.
The club has struggled to adapt to modern football trends, such as data-driven recruitment and tactical flexibility.
6. Cultural and Psychological Factors
The weight of expectations and the shadow of past glories often seem to burden the team.
The club lacks a winning mentality and resilience that characterized their success under Ferguson.
While Manchester United remains one of the world's biggest clubs, returning to their former heights will require addressing these systemic issues comprehensively.
I rather short term pain and long term growth. Amorim is the man
Once more, another pundit talking about getting rid of players, while ignoring the HOW. Huge wage contracts expiring 2007/2008 brought in on bloated prices. Not to mention these players are mediocre or underperforming. Name teams who’ll sign on these terms.
They have been a mess for a decade.
Odds for their relegation or Amorim losing his job early?
Is it not fair to say United were poor pre fergie and are just going back to where they were post Fergie … money help but does not guarantee you titles
Enjoy the freedom, United fans. From the Premier League
Utd are just reverting to their mean.
I mean it’s not hard to understand what is happening. Shit players, and on top of that one dimensional therefore can’t even adapt to Amorim. Once he buys players that can actually play top tier football we can start judging.
What was it Ragnick said? The club needs open heart surgery. Amorim is the surgeon...
An unhappy club for unhappy people.
I noticed Garnacho hairdo, maybe there's a chance yet for him 🤔
What? As a hair model 😂

Couldn't be happier with football. We are top and those bozos are heading to championship.
the only club man utd can beat now is Southampton....
United have a terrible squad. other than Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad, Yoro and perhaps Bruno, none of the others would get into top 7-8 teams. Even these players are hardly world beaters.
Replace Manchester United with The UK and you make an interesting point...
Happy new years Loz❤ Why do "you" brits say Sir Jim aso? I can understand it if one is a United fan or the person deserves respect. To me the whole idea of being sired?is dividing the people. I mean even Southgate!! What has he done to deserve it?
💯
im very happy with the cost cuts. the club is failing. it can't operate as it did when it was successful
We have to cut charity so we can do charity in the future? Psycho stuff
The managers doing a great job it could be worse bring back Steve unmade bed Bruce there’s not many managers left you haven’t tried 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
