    It's really just how spread out guild traders are for me when you're trying to find items. Having to use an outside website just to find out which trader has which items so you aren't running between multiple cities is insane. If there was an in game, in engine, not an addon, way to at least lookup where items are it'd be at least tolerable.

      I would make it a thieves guild NPC available in every hideout... players would pay a fee for every search of lets say 20g to find their item at any guild store in the game. If it finds any or not, 20g is lost (I call it the the "bot" tax). If it finds the item it will list all guild traders and their zones and calculate the median price of the item and informs the player. To make it easy on servers searches of same item by multiple players would be re-used for up to 1 hour so the listing and median price might or might not be accurate by 1 hour.
      This solution is simple, would work on consoles, bandwidth friendly and most importantly it doesn't remove the incentive from guilds to compete for guild stores in best locations (because 100% accurate search with exact price listed would make any guild store spot equally good) and it doesn't remove the incentive to visit multiple stores to find the best deal (it would just filter out stores without searched item and thus save a lot of player's time). Giving players just median price and not the exact price is good enough to not destroy the economy but still informing players what is and is not a good deal and what is an absolute bargain or a scam.

    My opinion (as a casual soloer) is that ESO's auction house system is the worst I have experienced in any of the MMORPGs I have ever played. Even the forcing of players to join a guild to access a trader is onerous. And then, the developers push it a step further and don't have a separate trading channel. I'm used to and accept that many things in an MMORPG are going to be impossible/difficult for me as a soloer--but this forced grouping auction system is the absolute worst, especially in a game promoted as solo friendly.

  • @Centurion305

    GW2 has a much better set up for the auction house but ESO refuses to fix any issues. For new players, finding a trading guild can be difficult and confusing. It definitely bars many new players from making money especially when a lot of trading guilds require weekly payments just to stay in

    Cool topic!
    Personnally trader is a bit tideous sure. But it keep city more populated. Also it's fun to find low cost item & flip it.
    Maybe keep traders & have a few auction house all linked. In major city like grathwood, deshaan for example. At a higher cost or a bigger fee.
    So big guild could have weider audiences & zones wouldn't get empty by keeping traders up.
    Having only auction may get bots to crash markets.
    That's my opinion.

    The main issue is trying to find what you want without paying over the odds and spending hours running around checking just to find out no one is selling the item your looking for. Keep guild traders as they are but add an in game search all trader's mechanic at a banker. This is probably already an add-on for pc anyway but us peasant folk on Xbox EU don't have anything not even a price checker.

  • @danhensley
    @danhensley 14 дней назад +1

    Traders are good for the economy and push people into joining guilds, which is also a plus. The game only needs a built-in way to search all traders at once before travelling to them, to make trading better for console players and to keep pc players from having to use an addon if they don't want to.

  • @sherlockthepug6745
    @sherlockthepug6745 14 дней назад +2

    I feel like the big downside to a trader is just having to travel everywhere to find what you’re looking for a good price they can keep guild traders but they gotta find a way to make it where you’re not spending four hours shopping especially when you have a person doing 20 characters dailies.That leaves them no time to do anything else in the game if they have to shop directly after that.

    • @sherlockthepug6745
      @sherlockthepug6745 14 дней назад +1

      I also think a listing directory for shopping might be a good way to solve this issue some sort of place where you can go to look up all the prices for everything that’s currently listed and what guild trader has what you’re looking for and the zone.

  • @ReallyUnCanny

    It would be cool if they had a trading city or port with all the guild traders. Maybe with different districts so not all spots are equal but at least it would put all the guild traders in the same area and you wouldn't have to bounce around the map trying to find stuff. Not sure how that would work with the servers though.

    I never thought about it tbh. interesting. But for me as a casual player with 100+ hours and just hit my first level 50 a few days ago, the struggle is real. My main guild wanted donations or get out so i gave a measly 5k out of my incredible wealth of 35k (15%). My next bank upgrade costs 50k and quests are long and barely pay, and most of the valuable drops come from community events or daily rewards so they flood the market and lose value unless u can afford to hold on to it and sell it later at a better price. which again for me i cant afford in bank space and in need of money. i will wait for a people's rebellion DLC :D i'll buy that.

      "they flood the market and lose value unless u can afford to hold on to it and sell it later" - interestingly ESO markets don't seem to work that way. Things seem to sell best as long as they're new. I made roughly 700k by just playing the Skingrad Dailies for two weeks and selling colovian furnishing plans. While you need the DLC, good thing is you can do those on every level and it takes about 30mins per day. It still works, although everyone and their mother has been farming these things for weeks.

    Played Everquest around 2000 the game had an Auction house method of buying and selling.

    No grand exchange. This is not RuneScape. It is the baby of RuneScape and WoW but this game will not work because people will pump and dump a grand exchange type thing whereas decentralized is always better because no one can control it unless they farm a lot which takes time and chance. Especially for gold mats. ESO is perfect just how it is. Money is easily obtained. If you went to auridon and did every single quest including side quests in that zone you would walk away with about 54k gold. I know because this was the first zone I played and that how much I made after selling all the oranatea I got good drops and quest gold. That is a hefty bit of change for 1 zone. This amount fluctuates between 50k-75k gold in some zones for doing every quest. For example I did every single quest and side quest in vvardenfell and earned about 65k gold from ornate and quest gold. So there is money to be made out there. A lot of players have not even finished all the quests in game. Also a stack 200 soup gems is worth 10k.doing dungeons stacks those up fast. Guild traders is the best way because you can teleport through the world and compare prices. Especially for gold mats. They are generally a standard price and can dip in a 5-10k difference. With a grand exchange type thing it would be a set price and you couldn’t find it for any less because that is the standard price set by the game system. Leave it up to players as we know what we want and have kept this game alive on our own.

    If i was going to change anything with the trader system it would be to add a system that allowed players to make offers, could allow for auto decline if offered below a specific amount so you are not bombarded with 1 gold offers... We know that listings last 30 days and prices can fluctuate some....so if you have an item that you want that has been listed for 28 days it would nice to be able to make the seller an "offer" they could accept reducing their price to that amount through the guild trader...so all the taxes and fees are still collected...

    The only thing I think went upwards was the gold:crown proportion. Back in 2020 I used to buy it for 400:1, now it's ~1100-1500:1. However, I've been told that it used to be 2100:1 at a given time. It's sinister. On the other hand, materials seem to be on a low right now. Quite hard to gather money right now.

      I have been struggling a little with this
      Previously I was kind of a whale tbh I would buy crowns for gold a lot, I even got many of the Q4 zones buying them on my own, heck, that was even before I did like 10 characters of writs everyday.
      Now doing 10 characters I can barely get 130k a day and can barely afford crowns.
      I'm glad people can afford golden mats and a lot of stuff way easier, I think that's good for the community, but I guess now I got to live with the FOMO of the crown store that has been increasingly bad with it or start selling feet pics to afford it all.

    To me Guild Traders are fundamental part of game. Cuz you, if really active in your guild, can make very good friends. I was a solo player till i joined guild traders. I had 800 CP at that time. Till that moment I never ever was in a group activity cuz i feared being kicked from a dungeon or trial. My guilds took time to teatch me and supported me. Now i can run any normal and vet dungeons and some vet trials with whole confidence. Guildtraders are more than buy and sell, they are a way to connect with your fellow TESO mates. Being rich in TESO is a friendship and connection business, i am TESO rich and i got those millions thank to my guilds support and advices.

    I've always thought that having a peaceful version of the Imperial City with a centralized auction house would be awesome (maybe Ithelia can pull some threads of fate for this, so we can have both the PvP IC and PvE IC). The guild traders would still be around like they are now, but you could view all of their inventories and make purchases conveniently from the Imperial City.
    That would be a Market District thing. In a peaceful IC, other districts could bring other features to the game too (e.g. Arena District could bring a new PvP mode). If y'all have ideas for other districts, mention them below!

  • @BiscuitDelivery
    @BiscuitDelivery 14 дней назад

    Auction houses in other games can work as a way to see what works and what doesn't. Right now Black Desert is having the inverse of this problem with rampant deflation devaluing assets you grind for because there is a global auction house you can access from anywhere and a 15% cut in taxes from said auction house. The problem is that there is a type of material that you can't buy from the auction house that you can only get from vendors with silver and said material is so valuable that endgame players sell off anything extra they get to then buy said material, devaluing the market as supply rapidly exceeds demand. An auction house won't necessarily lead to rapid inflation.

  • @MotherOfAllmonsters1

    Problem is theirs just more and more gold and nothing destroying gold, repairing armor and a 10% tax on a item is not enough, inflation will rise untill something can make gold have an actual value and not be printed like paper. Inflation will only get worse until they do something about the resources farm bots and abundance of everything and every resource in the game. Most things can be earned in just a hour such as sets farming. Other mmos would take weeks to months to get meta gear, eso takes at the most a few days, excluding trials

  • @magenpie_4009

    Great video as always, Jake. However, while I'm *half* on board with what you're saying, I can't help thinking that the problems some MMOs have with player gold were as a result of particular situations of their own making - so WoW let ppl make tons of money with their Garrisons, SWTOR had a bug which gave some people a LOAD of money and they didn't claw it back, etc etc. It took me a long time to feel trusting/sociable enough to join a Trading Guild and it worked out ok for me, but i do think some of the arguments against a central AH are a bit disingenuous. So many mmos have them and it works fine. Also think it depends on the area you play in, so for e.g. I think WoW in NA has far far more gold sloshing around than the EU - reflected in the price of a much cheaper WoW token in NA. Anyway, interesting puzzle, ty! :)

    been playing for 4 years and have seldom participated in the economy in general, I feel this game is very friendly to a minimal trading interaction playstyle. I don't have a direct problem with the current system beside searching specific items across the various traders when I do want to buy something, 90% of the time being motifs for my master writs. As others said it'd be fine just having a more handy in-game search rather than rely on external tools.
    Also I manage to keep my own effective value up by just being an unhinged hoarder of crafting materials. Jubilee anniversary alone made my stashes explode with the whatever 3.5k-4k boxes I opened in total. Doing daily Crafting writs on 20 toons also helps a lot.

    It goes beyond economy, though. It's also about world population, server traffic (worst case scenario is tons of players/pets all having to broadcast to each other), and immersion for the players. Right now players are very spread out. Anywhere you go, the world of ESO is alive. Even the smallest towns have people in them. With an AH you can kiss that goodbye. Everyone will just hang out in whatever city has the AH. The world of ESO will turn into WoW's outworld where everything is dead and empty except the one or two cities that are social/economic hubs.

    Here's the thing... I can't stand being in guilds. When I first started playing MMO's I had some bad experiences with guild members engaging in politics and drama and I want nothing to do with any of it. I haven't joined a guild in any game in a couple decades.
    I currently have 11,455.3 hours in ESO. I have never joined a trade guild, nor I have ever wasted my gaming time by sitting in chat hoping for buyers for the things I find... Duplicate motif or recipe worth a few mil? I will use it on a different toon just to make space in my inventory.
    I have unnecessarily used on alts, NPC vendored, or outright destroyed literally tens of millions worth of goods without a second thought, all because I don't want the hassle or expectations foisted on me by being in a guild.
    That's a lot of stuff that probably would have made some people very happy if there was a basic auction house, and I doubt I am unique in this position.

    I've only been playing ESO for about four months now and have yet to join a guild. I wanted to join a trading guild because I have a mule stuffed with set purples, but all the guilds who trade have huge weekly dues which an explorer like me cannot afford currently. The smaller guilds with "no dues" still ask you to do a whole bunch of stuff every week, so I actually view the whole guild trading as very unapproachable for the average user who isn't worried about grinding and being the best of the best. I hope there will be an auction house. If you think it will cause inflation, let me point out all the ridiculous prices on items going on now (like over 250,000g for a chest piece for your companion if you want purple lol).

    Been saying for years we need a central market with free trade that way players still control the markets via supply and demand.
    Then comes the problem of inflation due to too much gold in the economy, to fix that we could implement a 20% sales tax and or a weekly individual registration fee of 10-20k.
    Right now the system is so disjointed that pretty much if you aren't in one of the 3 capitals you aren't making any money.

    It's funny cause a few days ago a guy on PC EU was being really toxic about this matter in Northern Elsweyr. I tried to explain to him the whole picture of it but it was pointless and only looked at other games having auction houses and ESO having guild traders. (i really hate this mentality of looking at others to replicate the same but not understand the how and why)
    First things first, to add a layer of context i'm on PC EU, in no trading guilds. Just in my own fresh guild of 5 players having fun together.
    I think Guild Traders have mainly one major issue which is negative gatekeeping.
    Imo trading guilds should be for peoples who want to dedicate in that activity, not peoples who want to just sell items from time to time and I don't think centralizing the economy is the solution to that issue.
    Something possible to fix that could be to do something against multiple guilds for one trading guilds like for example Winter Rose having Spring Rose, Summer Rose and Autumn Rose (basically having multiples guilds for 1 "real" guild) and along with that add like 2 or 3 slots per NPC or maybe even more. 'Cause this is a monopoly issue that can't be shut down without devs acting against it. However, i'm not sure if it would make more peoples happy or more peoples annoyed. It's quite a controversial thing to do i'd say, but i don't see other solutions.
    Another point towards Guild Traders is that peoples naturally gathers around fully loaded towns. I do my writs 99% of the time in Rimmen 'cause i like both the town and the traders that are usually located here. (and Jakarn falling continuously on this damn crate on my crafter) But if a centralized economy would happen, everyone would gather in let's say 3 places (one per faction) and it will just be sad tbh. Maybe with luck extend that to chapters towns but it's not even sure.
    I've seen a pseudo-decentralized economy go centralized on a MMO before. Basically there was 3 towns with 3 different auction houses (like each town had around 10 auction houses based on the type of item, like let's say a resource auction house, so there was 1 resource auction house located in each town) and they were not linked together. One day, they linked it together. Suddenly, everyone was doing their trading at the same town. And they still do nowadays. It became an overcrowding issue and it peaked when someone started using bots that just... move. But like 400-500 bots at the same key spot everyone need to pass by, moving at the same time just to make everyone lag, forcing peoples to left the town 'cause even mods weren't able to keep it in check completely.
    Years after the centralization, they released a sort-of vanilla old school version of the game, a version years before the centralization. But since peoples were already used to going always to the same town, in a way they forced the devs to centralize the vanilla edition of the game just by having a new gameplay habit than players from 15 years ago, making the others two towns having basically empty auction houses. Nowadays, the issue is the same as the "retail" version, without the bots but still lagging a lot due to the town being overcrowded.
    I think there's truly a social impact on this system that is important to take into account and overall the guild trader system is fine, it just needs a bit of polishing.

    The people winning these traders weekly are running a guild or multiple guilds charging weekly dues of 25k or more with max guild number being 500 even if only 400 people donating that’s 10 million a week. This is so out of reach for the majority of people playing to win a bid. Stop giving guilds dues!😂

    They don’t have to drive all of the tax from the AH. If there’s a centralized auction house the gold would get spread to more people, which means they can raise the price on vendor items, create a craft tax, increase travel wayshrine costs, increase vendors with collectibles for gold, etc. they just need to get that gold deleted, and it doesn’t have to be just from a singular source

    The old MMOs released 20+ years ago pretty much all had global trading houses, guild houses with traders etc., ESO has none of that. The trading system in ESO, as so many game-design-choices, is just bad... You can delete in-game-gold by selling items to players (furnishing, houses, golden vendor, repairs, skins, riding-skills,crafting research, xp-scrolls, changing character-looks, skill reset etc.)- the problem is, that ZOS is trying to sell most of those for real money (which only new players or whales buy) ;)
    So the real problem, as so often, is ZOS greed. Trying to squeeze more money out of players for stuff that is free or available for ingame currency in most other games.
    The current ESO-trading-design limits the access to trading to big guilds, it is expensive for guilds, some use real world money to pay for the upkeep of the ingame guild-trader and players lose money for trading with other- so basically a punishment for interacting with each other: Which is the very core of MMOs

    I understand some of the complaints about the guild traders and it can be a pain at times. The alternative is far worse. Just think about how much most items would cost due to inflation and what about the new player. Could they afford to pay 30 to 50 thousand gold for sugar skulls? With all the complaints the way the system is now is probably about as good as it can get. It's not perfect, but it works.

  • @odean14

    I think the inflation in ESO PC exists as a result of addons and having too much whales. There are too many players who were willing to spend any amount of gold in any item. Mundane runes are super easy to farm and have a high drop rate. Yet its cost ketp getting inflated because the housing community members are willing to spend insane amounts of Gold on them. When in reality it should be extremely cheaper.

    Both current Guild Traders and Total Auction System are bad to the economy. One inflates due to Guild monopoly and the other due to being an opportunity for bots to inflate.
    IMO raise the number of guilds in a single trader to 5 or 10 if necessary, as Guild Traders at their current state give too much power to top guilds, up to the point where both other guilds become unable to bid due to the gap between them and top guilds start to make dupe guilds and occupy the Guild Traders of several cities.

    It takes 5 seconds to go from one guild trader to another. If you don't want to make the trip, buy a more expensive option nearer to you. With addons like BeamMeUp there is no reason to worry about where a trader is located. Moving them together, or just removing them altogether in favor of an auction house, will remove huge portions of players from every zone, turning it into a WoW-style game where the vast majority of players are in only a few areas, and the rest just sit there dead.

    it's always interesting listening to console players talking about inflation, as a PC player.... deadly strike's not worth rolling now, because the sale price is so damn low. Also, this would spread this out a lot more... A lot of us who actively participate in guild systems pay a larger percentage of that cost. Most gold for traders, at least on PC-NA does not come from the guild cut from the trader, but from auctions and raffles. About 1/3'd of my weekly profit gets funneled right back into various guild raffles.
    Also, your use of PC-NA data on current value of wax does not reflect the history of the game... we're in a free-fall for actual sale value for everything. You'd need to look at even older data to really see just how affected the market is by recent changes. Which, ironically, shows your point even better. Though in reality, the net-results of these changes are grossly negative for the current guild trader systems, guild traders are dying like flies on PC-NA because the giant pile of gold you want to protect isn't evenly distributed, it's held, specifically, by high level trade guilds. There are also trade guilds where thousands of dollars are being piped in to the game in RMT gold sales every single month, to maintain these positions, crushing newer trade guilds in the process.
    It's a inherently toxic, negative experience that is doing active harm to the trade communities and economies in this game.

      @@Official_JakeClips yeah. Thats part of the issue. Changes that are trivial or even positive on console are actively killing a significant number of trade guilds on pc. The last years changes have, over all, been a massive net negative for everyone but brand new players... And even then the dead guilds means fewer low and no dues guilds for those new players to join.
