- How to fix a P059F engine code: Active Grille Air Shutter Performance
Active Grille Air Shutters block airflow to the radiator until the engine is warmed up. They stay closed when the engine is cold. This helps with aerodynamics and can help engines stay warm in very cold climates.
Possible Causes of a P059F Code
Front Grille Damage
Grille Being Blocked
Debris Holding Fins Open
Motor / Actuator Harness Wiring
Bad Motor Actuator

Extremely thorough and helpful, thank you!
Thank you very much. Exactly what I needed to know
Just got this code yesterday on my titan I just bought two weeks ago !! Thank you for the explanation
Same here. Got mine 2 weeks ago
@@Homerunhitta2525what did you do to fix it?
@@zinndecker8305 My truck was still under warranty so the dealership ordered a new one and replaced it at no cost. No problems ever since.
@@Homerunhitta2525how long did the replacement take?
@@dylanrosenfeld475 Dropped it off at the dealership around 6pm and got it back by 6pm the next day. Luckily they had the part in stock. No problems ever since.
You’re the greatest! Thank you so much, I am a female and these male mechanics be charging me arm and a leg, so I’d rather do it myself
My shutters on one of the sides are clearly crooked, the check engine lights on, the engine temperature is normal, the car is also running normal. Do I need to get this fixed?
Great video
I have two flaps that stay closed all the time.
While all the others are open.
Is that normal?
So my Dodge ram 2018 2500 overheats when I drive up the mountain when it’s 100° out. If it was anything else like a thermostat or a water pump or a radiator, it would overheat no matter what the temperature is right.? I’ve talked to many other guys who’ve had the same issue and they said they changed the thermostat the water pump the radiator and nothing changed. I think this might be the cause. It’s not throwing or anything, but it overheats only when it’s hot. Do you recommend a lower thermostat and the? Active grill shutters.
Thanks very much
I have a 2017 Cadillac ats , that started to shutter when accelerating and yesterday it pulled this code , I have someone look at it but no issue with the wiring or blockage
awesome dude
Could this be a reason as to why the AC in my 2018 Nissan rogue doesn’t work ?
Is it possible to open it manually if its stuck without damaging anything?
I have a 2015 jetta. I replaced the acuator but cannot get the check engine light to go off and the fins are working properly. Do I have to find someone that has a VCDS diagnostic machine to clear check engine light and have my shutter communicate with the ECM? The OBDII will not keep it off.
Can you just change out the actuator and not the whole component?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out. Or just take it out all together. It’s more for EPA
I added a light bar on the lower bumper on a 2017 nissan titan think that is what cause me getting a PO59F due to light bar blocking flow of air???
I have 2020 Prius, shuttle was damaged, I changed it and now code shows that it is motor skipping. Does it need to be calibrated or it should work as is ?
would freezing weather cause the code to come on? When I parked it was above freezing, when I drove it 2 days later after snow and freezing rain the code came on after about 10 minutes.
Same here. I'd love to know the answer to this question.
@@abbeycrum2848me too, just got this code yesterday on new 2024 at4x
Hi my 2013 chevy Malibu has an active shutter grille code but it don’t have a shutter fan. I’m a bit lost can u help me remove that code
Mine is opening and closing all the time even if it’s at a stop. What could be the cause ?
Can you still drive with this issue
If it's stuck open, you are likely OK, but if it is stuck closed, the engine may run hot or overheat.
Mine just went out after a fender bender. I live in Texas. Don't think I'm going to dish out the $ for this.
If this situation i drive its possible any problem
I replaced mine a year ago and it's throwing the code again
Is there a fuse along with this component?
Yes, it's usually in the under-hood fuse box.
Would a faulty Shutter cause a slow battery draw. Overnight i lose ability to start my '18 Silverado
im having the same issue, any solution?
my mustang gt has a problem where it close and open every time i start it and well not stop tell it get to it temperature the code is p05a1 active grille air shutter a position sensor

I haven’t gotten a code yet on my ford mustang but I can hear a clicking noise from when my shutter tries to close itself. It keeps doing that for as long as I have the car running. Not sure what the issue might be
Your problem was the "Mustang"
Same with my f150
I am from Saudi Arabia . I have the same problem with my 2019 Nissan Altima. In winter, the temperature reaches 30 C (86 F). In summer, the temperature in the shade reaches 55 C (131 F). Tell the Nissan factory in America. We live in hell. WTF .
How did you fix it? Same problem in my 17 Altima
I am a GM tech in Makkah region,
Feel free to get in touch for any further information and advice
I also have a 2019 Nissan 😭 I think it’s, for some reason, common for 2019s nissan
Get ready to get dicked if this part goes bad out of warranty, $1300 to get this replaced on a Tahoe!
Got this code when I drove off a pavement exiting a highway and crashed it into ditch😅
How did u fix it,?
@@emoshnz1 I didn’t. It would just magically appear sometime then a few minutes later, disappear lmao
I just paid 1000 for this to be fixed and it wasn’t even fixed
