Fun reaction. Thanks. This video always puts me in a good mood. Scott is the one who had the idea to audition for the TV show, The Sing Off. He was in college in California. He called Kirstie (in college in a different state) and Mitch (still in high school in their home town) and asked them to join him to audition for the show. They needed a bass and a beatboxer. He and Ben (co-founder) found Avi through a friend and found Kevin on RUclips after Kevin's video of him celloboxing went viral with over 900,00 views. They were all busy so they didn't get to all meet up until the day before the audition. They made the show. They won Season 3 of the show. The rest is history.
I tried to post the behind the scenes but couldn't. Please watch it. They worked hard on this and Kevin tries to teach Kevin how to talk "smooth" at one point which is hilarious

That campus became the annual summer home to A Cappella Academy, a 10-day immersive music camp for 12 to 18-year-olds from around the world, which was founded in 2014 by none other than Avi Kaplan, Ben Bram (PTX producer/arranger) and Rob Dietz (songwriter/arranger they met on The Sing Off, where he was an arranger/coach). I think they all dressed as themselves and everyone dressed like them. I don’t know. I just watched the original and PTX slays this. This is one of my favorite covers they do.
Each of them chosed a place for his/her set and the clothes for the others and then near the end there is a sixth set where they all wear their own chosen clothes.

Love the song and love your reaction, but, quite frankly, I'm shocked that you had never heard of "Can't Hold Us", the biggest hit tha Macklemore has had, along with Thrift Shop, which PTX also does a cover for.
They WERE kids! Kirstie, Mitch and Scott were about 20 or 21 and Avi and KO two or three years more, YOUNG adults, with just a bit of lingering baby fat in those sweet, sweet, faces. Gotta love them! Glad you do, too.
When there journey began, Scott ( California )and Kirstie ( Oklahoma) were in college. (Where they were staged) Kevin was Mr graduate and living his life of faith.(ie. The church ) Avi was ac country boy, trying to start his a capella camp.(the out of doors) Mitch was still in high school. ( nerdy school setting). If you look closely to each setting, you will see they were all there. Dressed like whoever was in frount. Ingenious

Yes, they all killed this song! I think Scott was often visually put in center @ the start of most songs in the early days for a combination of symbolic & visual spacing reasons. He's the technically the founder/leader, so he's the "center" & "face" of the group. The Trio are the lead singers (or opening leads at least) usually, so they want them center & then the rhythm & bass divided on each side. He's the tallest of the Trio/tallest of all of them, so to stagger everyone by height to add more visual variety, he would be center with the other 2 of the Trio right beside him, as they are shortest. Now when a song opens or when photos are done they don't put him center as often, as it really isn't needed & they don't want to be in a rut. They mix it up more, like in the opening of their Amazing Grace video. (As Matt was opening lead, they had him & Kevin center with the Trio broken up on the outside.)
