#OliveThomas #1920s #History
It's hard to believe Jack's story. It makes no sense. It's just hard to imagine how he sold such a tale.
The saddest thing is that this lovely young woman is all but forgotten apart from her dramatic death. Less than half her films have survived and she lies alone in Woodlawn Cemetery in New York in a mausoleum bearing the name 'Pickford'.
Because She Was Part Of The Pickford Family. married To Jack And Sister- In- Law To Mary Pickford.
@@LINDA-jy3ov Yet none of them were interred there when they died.
Jack was a drunk who rode on Mary's coattails.
Mary was apparently jealous of Olive, and discouraged her career aspirations.
Mary also became a drunk, but lasted a very long time locked away in Pickfair.
She was so lovely. What a shame she was used in such a way. Really a true classic American Beauty.
Poor Olive.😢
What a horrible way to die. Thanks for sharing.
Very interesting video of an actress I'd never heard of until you made this. A sad tragic ending.
I am fascinated with the old Hollywood of the teens and twenties. Thanks for the video, just subscribed 💕
I love learning about all these amazing people and their stories from your channel. Thank you so much dear❤
I've loved Olive Thomas for years ever since I saw her in The Flapper, so sad. Jack certainly knew more than he said, but he would do anything to protect his and Mary Pickford's reputation. I never thought Jack killed her, especially in such a cruel way, and by all accounts Olive wouldn't have killed herself, but she was dramatic. I often wondered if she made a suicide ATTEMPT planning to drink the sleeping potion (which was fatal, but Jack was right there to get her to the hospital and get her stomach pumped) and after drinking all night got the bottles mixed up and only realized when it was too late. Just my own theory for what it's worth :)
Wow, what a sad story. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Sad. The husband may have left the poison bottle there. Anyone else would have kept it elsewhere in private.
A forgotten mystery that needs rediscovering and this video does just that. Thanks
Why in the hell didn't they sedate her so that her dying could be made so much less painful and easier !
She was beautiful Sad her bizarre death is why we know her now Jack's story doesn't make sense
That is really suspicious
I am very sure Olive committed suicide. There is no way she mistook a topical cream for aspirin tablets especially with how strong of an aroma mercury dichloride has.
This makes no sense, why would she drink liquid when she was looking for pills?
Nothing about this story makes any sense. Had he given Olive syphilis? Did she know that he had it?
@@lemorab1 I wonder 🤔
The only thing I can come up with is she though it was alcohol...but still downing the entire bottle?
@@kathrynmcelroy5658 I wondered about that but why would anyone be looking for a bottle of alcohol in a bathroom in the middle of the night? Nobody keeps alcohol in bathrooms and the bottle was too small to be mistook for a bottle of spirits or wine.
I've postulated that Olive may have gone into the bathroom with the light off (so as not to awaken Jack) looking for a sleeping draught, as she might've been headachey from the alcohol at the party they'd been to. This would be plausible except for she drank the whole bottle! Just the acrid smell and one sip would've alerted her that this was a Mercury poison! The theory that Jack forced her to drink it seems unlikely also because there would've been evidence of he struggling as he held her down and poured it down her throat. Her tragic death is so mysterious.
Hi, how are you? I'm doing well. Awesome live history video I enjoyed it. Your videos are always enjoyable. Have a great day see you next video greetings from Canada 😊

Well done!
I did not know she drank the whole bottle.
Very interesting story. Terrible way to die.
Thank you
You sound like a Geordie. I live in the USA, but I grew up in Lobley Hill, Gateshead..
Had never heard of her.God, she was gorgeous. What a way to die.
How very awful 😢.
Very pretty girl strange way to go she must have been really wasted or........
I think its obvious what happened.
Very suspicious
She was murdered.
Wow a famous actress who died on what would later be my birthday in 1956
The French for "Poison" is "Poison."
I actually question the husband's account of the scenario.
I agree. It doesn't ring true.
Why ? .. Olive Thomas lived for 5 days after the incident and confirmed exactly what happened
@@Joe-rv6jr Jack reported that but the truth is that Olive's throat and vocal chords were destroyed by the Mercury so she couldn't speak.
😊👍👏✌
she couldnt read french and drank the wrong drugs lmao not everything needs to be big mystery
In cases like this there are always suspicions and dark theories. However, I don’t believe that Jack Pickford would have murdered his wife in such a terrible way, he did come under suspicion and when people commit murder they try to avoid that. Many people don’t realise that if people swallow a corrosive substance making them sick is the wrong treatment, it makes the damage worse. Pickford did however try to help Olive and he had no reason to murder her and Olive’s tragic death certainly didn’t help him.
Check out the suicide of Peg Entwhistle.
