I took a college course back when I was at TCU where the professor defined "White Privilege" as not having more advantages in life, rather having fewer disadvantages/discriminations in life (so opposite of what it sounds like). Essentially, in our country's history, White people (with few exceptions) have not faced the multiple generations oppression that most People Of Color (particularly African Americans) have faced, resulting in fewer disadvantages for them today. Sure, if you're a wealthy White person, you are better off than all average/poor people in America, but if you're a middle class White person, you still have better chances to succeed in life because you don't have the systemic disadvantages that African, Asian, Hispanic, and Native Americans at a similar social class level have. Finally, when a person of color does become successful in America, it is not because of "Reverse Discrimination" as some White Americans argue, rather it is because they have managed to overcome the disadvantages that they faced that many of their White counterparts didn't have to face.

Jesse Torres Definition of Heritage is inheritance. So, when white people say the Confederate flag is that and not racist they are saying their rightful inheritance that is being denied; they have always been allotted their inheritance of properties though...the only property ownership that changed was the people that are no longer property.

Lucky you. You're able to trace your roots, I'm in FL and there was so many inconsistencies like name changes, blended family, relocations, ect.... That every time I try to trace back I hit a brick wall as far back as I get is my grandma. I don't know where to look from here. Again you are so lucky.

I'm a former TCU student and we once had a guest speaker named Joe Feagin (a Caucasian) who spoke about the history of systemic racism/the white racial frame that defines American history. Dr. Feagin basically said that throughout all of American history (1607-2017), 83% of our history can be categorized/defined by White racism/suppression of People Of Color (mainly Africans). As a result, out of 21 generations of Americans, only the last 3/4 have grown up with no legal/de jure segregation and where institutionalized racism be a factor/way of life for minorities. However, despite this, prejudice, stereotyping, intolerance, bigotry, and individual discrimination still exist because of the fact it had defined so many past generations and the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s weren't enough to end the morals that individuals pass on to their children, even if they are academics/educated on the history of oppression minorities faced. That said, he was hopeful that with each generation that follows the 1960s, we will see less racial tension/discrimination in our society and it is up to all of us to be moral/informed of these plights in order to make this country better for Americans of all races.

The fact that they mentioned pollution is important. During the pres. debate when racial discrimination was addressed a candidate mentioned pollution & climate change. He was told to get back on topic. People don't see the connection. Perhaps Africa town should invite more outsiders to their celebration. Organize events to attract crowds & revenue.

You ever see that show Home Town. They fix up old home in their town one by one. Once the industrial waste gets cleaned up. I think a homebuying initiative would be a good fit. Since it would bring younger families to the area. And a lot of those people looking for home on that show are looking to start a business or already have a business in that town. I don't think it's hopeless if can be done.
