I am a simple music lover. I see that key signature, I click, and I like.

Tenebrae and Mealor; a beautiful pairing.

They have a real bass in there

why in b.31 does it sound like the Alto sings an A natural rather than A#? is that Tenebrae interpretation or engraving error 🤔

That should be an a natural! I don’t know how I missed that accidental. 🤦🏼

It steals a lot from Mealor’s Ubi Caritas.

    • @collinmccookcomposer

Hmmm. I guess I never noticed a connection there.

@@collinmccookcomposer the soprano alto duet is the same, the end is the same. There were other similarities I noticed. It’s as if they took the ubiquitous caritas, changed the words, key, and a few chord changes

@@roberts6644 I just listened to them side by side and you’re absolutely right! I’ll have to transcribe the ubi caritas so I can compare them even more!

@@roberts6644I just looked it up and they are identical!!! He wrote Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal in 2010 and rearranged it with the Ubi Caritas text in 2011 for Prince William’s wedding (he also raised the key to Db so that the bass 2s would have a chance to hit the low notes)

measure 2, second quarter note, they sing an A natural but it's written A sharp... anyone have insight on that?

Very nice musical piece even that baritone line is almost too low for me.

    Little derivative from Whitacre, no..?

    • @collinmccookcomposer
      @collinmccookcomposer  6 месяцев назад +2

I mean it’s possible, but both Mealor and Whitacre were getting recognition at the same time and I think their harmonic language is distinct enough to say they aren’t deriving from each other

It sounds like your ubi caritas…

Just wanted to clarify this is not a piece I wrote. This is by Paul Mealor!

Beautiful, but the tessitura is not ideal, unless you make it alto, tenor1 and 2, baritone, bass 1 and 2. No soprano

  • @Salvejohnny93

I’m sorry, but this piece is just ridiculous. No text painting, no portrayal of the poem. Just power chords and predictable chord progression with no sense of counterpoint.

    • @collinmccookcomposer

This piece is more of an experimental chorale. It was never meant to be performed in a concert setting.
