Thanks so much for your tutorial ... I did the same procedure so many times and still keeps challenging me ... what do I wrong?
Ty for the video. You explain better than other videos. However, I hoped that I would see in your video on how to do the same with Kontakt 6 drum samples (e.g. abbey road). The videos out there are not explaining clearly how to do this in my opinion. They skip parts (maybe) or either think you have other parts already covered. For example, I want to play abbey road 80's drummer in ableton live (via a drum rack) in order to play drums on push (for my songs). From videos I saw that you have to load kontakt in one cell of a new drum rack that you won't use (for example C3), select abbey road 80s drummer, then open the chain list, click on I/O, then at "receive", I set "all", and then I map every cell to the actual midi note that Kontakt uses to play the snare (I mapped the standard 16 pads in drum rack, starting at C1). I managed to create a 16 pad drum rack with kontakt abbey road 80s drummer. However, I can't seem to manage the 16 sound coming out of kontakt in my ableton. I tried adding external instrument "instrument" on each cell of the drum rack, but I still can't manage this in ableton live. Any ideas? Or if you already have a video about this? Man, this completely slows down my music creation. I'm 41 years old. I started playing guitars when I was 11, played in bands from 14 - 21 years old. Took a break while I studied at the university, then I started back in 2018. Everything is so different now! I spend too much time trying to figure out how to work with these softwares, rather than being creative. It kinda sucks. I know this is how it is nowadays, but if it's more easier, I would be happier :-). Anyway, great vid.
Very Useful, though I had to slow down playback speed to understand some of the things you were saying. I am brand new to Ableton live 10 Suite and Kontakt so many things you were saying were foreign to me. But great vide nonetheless.
@@LiveKeyboardist Hello! I have another wall in front of me. The sound of VST( and external instrument too) sound poor in Ableton Live 11. As if they were passing through in empty tin can. Thanks for this, very useful. Was there a good reason to offset the output assigns, it makes things very complicated. AFAICT, you just use your first MIDI track to hold the Kontakt and also use the first audio out. I couldn't figure out what you'd be giving up in terms of flexibility by just using the default.
Glad this was useful! Truthfully, this is just the way I’ve gotten Kontakt to work on my machine. I’m sure there are other ways to do it as well. And I don’t think you’d be giving up anything in terms of flexibility using your method.
Great video! Quick question! This is in regards to Kontakt instruments. I would like to know the steps necessary to remove the default panning effect generated by key positioning. For example, with Straylight, I have the preset called "As Wide As" loaded. When I press a key on the right side of my midi keyboard, it sounds louder on my right headphone; the same goes for the left side. The problem arises if the project I am working on consists primarily of lower pitches (causing the left headphone or speaker to be louder) or consists primarily of higher pitches (causing the right headphone or speaker to be louder). This causes the track to sound disproportionate when I want it to sound evenly distributed between both headphones or speakers. I want a centered sound instead of a sound dictated by key positioning. I've researched tutorials and gone through the Kontakt manual, but I can't seem to figure it out. How can I resolve this? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
If I am not mistaken this only works with certain (multitimbral) plugins. Is there a way to make this work with ableton instruments and other vsts? thx
Can you make a tutorial about one intrument in kontakt routed to multiple external instruments then changing each patch using a dummy clip and chain selector please?
Hey Clarence. Thanks for reaching out. Do you mean one instance of Kontakt with multiple instruments combined in it being sent to different channel strips?
my sound card only has 4 outs should i jsut set them to mono otherwise i can only route two stereo channels, i switched to mono to have four channels outside ableton is this correct, new sound card more outputs equals more channels?? also how do you edit sounds in kontakt , i can open there instruments and make edits stand alone but not in ableton is that correct, cant edit inside kontakts instruments once inside ableton
Hi! thanks for sharing. I follow your instructions but my Kontakt enables only two outputs. is this something physical or virtual? Why doesn´t it shows more outputs?
@@harrykamer4749 From what I've been able to figure out, the technique shown in the video, while legitimate, assumes you have an audio interface with 6 or higher outputs. I only have a humble scarlett 2/2, so that's all that shows up outside of Ableton, same as you guys. I don't think there's any way around this apart from a bigger audio interface. You can still do all this from within Ableton, however, where plenty of audio outs show up. As I'm wrapping my head around this I'm finding it's easier to setup 8 instruments in Kontakt in Ableton, then simply use the batch function to create the audio channels one for each instrument, then save that as my vst default. The other advantage of this is that Kontakt gets squirrelly when you manually set up audio outputs in Ableton(as mentioned in the video), but if you use the batch scripts, it makes sure to go through and setup the internals correctly.
Great question! Two options: option 1 - if you use an internal routing software like jack or sound flower, you can send the output of Kontakt to that software. Create a channel strip in ableton that is set to receive from that same audio routing. Option two, is just to drop the Kontakt VST into ableton. Hope this helps!

Piece of feedback because I'm frustrated right now, when using technical terminology, put yourself in a noob's shoes and if you think they may have a fuzzy understanding or no understanding of what you're talking about, give a short description of what you're referring to and what it does. E.g. Why you have so many outputs for audio, most people are using headphones or two speakers. It's confusing as to why you're creating 8 outputs, and why you need so many outputs. For me, I didn't need that, most people won't, you've got a more advanced setup. Relate back to the dinky setup most noobs are using, you're more advanced with your production knowledge so. Or a little foreword that gives an overview of the process as a whole to set a foundation for the rest of the video and how it differs from easier plugins. Doesn't have to be in depth, just a short laymen's explanation to help smooth over the learning process. Thankful you made this video though, I'm just frustrated right now because I conceptually understand what needs to happen and what routing is, that you can configure inputs/outputs for tracks, but the plugin is very unwieldy when compared to Splice or Serum. Not your fault, I'm just unreasonably enraged right now, it should be way easier than it is. Also, they need to line up the UX team for this thing and shoot them, because it is horrendous.
I appreciate your feedback! Thank you for taking the time to write it in. Admittedly, this is not the easiest thing to do - Depending on your use case, you might even want to consider doing it another way.
You can contact me via my website if you want to shoot me an email I can try and help you fix your struggle. Brett@mainstagetoableton.com
This plugin's interface is such a fucking disaster
