There’s always one thing I forget to edit in these videos, and today it was the Piper at the Gates of Dawn title card, it was the last thing to edit and I just copy/pasted it from the next album and forgot to change the text!
Great video man. You explain everything so well and (for the albums I’ve heard at least), I couldn’t agree more with your analysis. Awesome playing as well 🔥
Awesome video, i agree with that other guy in that this would be a cool series, but then again at the same time i understand these would be really time consuming and intensive to deliver, especially to put out at the same quality of this one.
Wouldn’t be a bad idea too because there’s a few of their albums I’m not familiar with as well so gives me a reason to finally sit down and listen to them!
I feel the same way. I've tried many times to listen to Gilmour's solo stuff but it just doesn't do anything for me. Unlike Water's solo albums which i absolutely love.
There are few songs I have ever listened to in my life that I feel I actually struggled to get to the end, and that song was all of them lmao. Just my opinion though
When you Discussed Meddle, I searched for the track "Seamless", until i realised you meant SEAMUS! (the dog). Its pronounced Shay-muss. Also the z in "San Tropez" is silent. Meddle is definitely the album where you see the "new" Pink Floyd stretch its wings. The Final cut could just as easily have been a Waters Solo album. Its completely forgettable. Momentary Lapse is the band finding its way trying to be more Pop focused in the wake of Waters Departure, but Division Bell is where they find their feet again. "Keep Talking" , "High Hopes" and "Take it back" are tracks as good as anything that came previously that wasn't from one of the "concept" albums like Wall or DSOTM. A fantastic analysis, thanks for taking the time on it..
Tier 1, 10/10 masterpieces: Animals, Animals 2018 remix, Wish You Were Here, Dark Side Of The Moon. Tier 2, great/amazing: Meddle, The Wall, probably Atom Heart Mother (I need to relisten to it). I need to go back through Pink Floyd's discography to rank the rest. Animals 2018 remix is my favorite album, Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the moon are probably both in my top 10 favorite albums as well.
I will say, live versions of Sorrow off Momentary Lapse are fucking killer! One of my favorite live Pink Floyd tracks. The album version is alright but it’s a whole different experience live
Yeah I will say something I didn’t include in the video, that era of their live shows is absolutely fantastic. The Delicate Sound of Thunder performance, the PULSE performance, even the one that they did on the barge, like I love listening to the live albums over the studio stuff of that era
also another banger video my guy. Atom Heart Mother remains the dark horse in the discography, Meddle is still my favorite, Obscured by Clouds is underrated, a symptom of being older is now I truly believe DSOTM is a 10/10, Wish You Were Here has fallen the most in my rankings, Animals is probably the best thing that Roger Waters has ever made, the Wall is one of the most important pieces of audio visual art ever made, the final cut is ass, MLAR is ass, the Division Bell is probably the best thing that David Gilmour has ever made.
I laughed out loud at "The Final cut is ass," and I could not agree more with all you said! Especially those two albums being the best they ever made respectively, I was almost tempted to include solo works on this video but it was so draining to get into even the best of their solo albums
Great synopsis of the discography - your insight into all the albums was refreshing. My only point of detraction (and this of course is always subjective) was your dislike ...."even worse than Ummagumma" of The Final Cut. Leaving the lyrics and personal nature - to Roger - to one side, the tracks were brilliant muically to me!! The Gunners Dream, Fletcher Memorial and Final cut are stand out for me.I love this album and it is up there with one of my favourites. Everything else aout all of the other albums I can agree with you almost 100% - I also agree that the post Roger Waters albums do not cut it at all for me. Love your renditions of some of the tracks by the way!!!!
Thanks!! And yeah that’s totally understandable, at the end of the day is it’s pure opinion, and it’s not my intent to stop people from listening to what they want to or what they like. It does have good moments here and there despite what I said!
Could you do a Steely Dan ranking? They have at least 2 of the best albums ever Imo and all of their albums are at least good. Also every one of their albums have amazing songs on it.
Yeah I should! I kind of want to make this a series now although this type of video takes such a long time to make haha but I love Steely Dan and there's a lot that I don't know that I'd like to explore!
Hahaha like the pinned comment says it was the last thing I edited!! I literally copied/pasted it in and for some reason forgot to change the text! but regardless of that, I appreciate it!
Haha I will probably inevitably make one at some point! This one took such a long time though so I probably won't get on it anytime soon but it will come!
I really should've mentioned it in the video, both PULSE and Delicate Sound of Thunder are really good releases both as live albums and representations of what Floyd were in that era to me. I think I almost prefer those versions of the AMLOR studio counterparts for some of them
I loathe the endless riverl, other than that all floyds other albums are good to masterpiece. 1,Animals 2.DSOTM 3. Ummagumma (love it, but i understand why most dont)4. Wywh,Meddle, sfos, final cut,the wall 9. Atom heart, patgod, more, division bell 13 momentary, obscured 15 the endless drivel
I think Pink Floyd epitomises the sum is greater than the parts. Roger Waters on his own is missing a lot musically and David Gilmore is missing focus. At their peak Roger provided a poetic/conceptual context for David’s musical talents. Conversely David constrained Roger’s ego and self-indulgences.
The thing with Obscured by Clouds is: you can't compare to any other Floyd albums, it's (sorry for the pun) apples and oranges. If I don't know which album by the band to listen to I turn to this one, it is very refreshing, cool, and Rick Wright's best contributions apart from WYWH. Therefore I can't rank it. Animals was, is, and always will stay the best album ever made for me and Echoes the best piece of music ever written. And yes, I also prefer WYWH over DSotM but both don't reach the perfect blend of the punky prog metal of Animals and sorry don't like the remix at all - too clean and sterile and distroys the dirty edgy original sound. Reasons btw for me is worse than Ummagumma or Cut. Two good songs and the rest is very poor alt pop rock NOT Floyd, not even Gilmour.
I'd agree with that assessment of OBC, I don't feel like it's a bad album, just different. It's totally unfair to compare it to Dark Side or Animals or any of those albums.
Being sung AT is the best way I’ve heard someone describe The Final Cut. I’ve always said I’d rather hear Gilmour’s nondescript, occasionally trite lyrics over Waters’ overly personal and bombastic style on The Final Cut. DSOTM through The Wall is weight with beauty behind it, TFC is simply just weight and the Gilmour era is JUST beautiful arrangements. Waters’ is the better lyricist but I’d rather hear Gilmour any day
The two of you are outa your minds. The Final Cut Is in my top 5 favorite Floyd albums. I will admit that i'm biased towards Waters though. I love every solo album from him so yeah i can agree with the notion of The Final cut being a Waters "solo" album.
This was great, but sorry I have to tell you you have horrible timing. Your rhytm is completely off. You seem to know guitar well, so if you work on this, you will be really great.
You should check out the live stuff from before dark side. Pompeii version of saucerful for sure. The bbc sessions and other bootlegs done by harvested. Zabriskie Point sessions has some good stuff.crumbling land is great.

it’s my favourite pink floyd song as well, along with Dogs
Dogs is just so fantastic haha
Great video man. You explain everything so well and (for the albums I’ve heard at least), I couldn’t agree more with your analysis. Awesome playing as well 🔥
Much appreciated, thank you!!
Awesome video, i agree with that other guy in that this would be a cool series, but then again at the same time i understand these would be really time consuming and intensive to deliver, especially to put out at the same quality of this one.

Great video, it's really cool to hear you talking on all these albums and play a riff along with it.
Glad you enjoyed, I appreciate it!!

Great video. Pink Floyd is one of my favourite bands. Would love to see a similar video on Led Zeppelin.
Wouldn’t be a bad idea too because there’s a few of their albums I’m not familiar with as well so gives me a reason to finally sit down and listen to them!
call me crazy but ummagumma is unironically one of my favourite PF albums lmao
Haha that's fine! It's all just my silly little opinions after all
Frankly i beleive with my biased taste that Pink Floyd ended by Rogers leaving. Others were some kind a personal dave music under the big umbrella
I feel the same way. I've tried many times to listen to Gilmour's solo stuff but it just doesn't do anything for me. Unlike Water's solo albums which i absolutely love.
Yeah that’s understandable!!
Miles does anything related with PF = Me happy
Haha I'm glad!!
Pink floyd has been my favorite band since I was 9 years old
I saw them live in concert at age 12, my first of many many concerts. And Daves a big reason i became a guitarist

pink floyd is my favorite ever since i was a baby
They're one of the all time great bands that's stuck with me almost all my life, and that certainly says a lot!
I agree mostly, except for the Final Cut. I love that album and include it in the Golden Era of PF. But respect that you don't.
Fair enough! It truly is just my opinion and I don’t want anyone to think of my opinion as law by any means haha.
Death Grips sampled both Interstellar Overdrive and Astronomy Domine on the song I Want it I need it (Death Heated) in a kind of a punk fashion
I’ll have to check that out, that sounds cool!!

Lmao it legitimately annoyed me!! The sound engineer didn’t do their job if you have to turn it up in the quiet parts!
@@MilesLargeTV Roger Waters also said that the drum volume of that album was too loud and he wished that he could fix it.
