The hero kind of character of Prabhas is Karna, demi god, Son of the Sun God. Karna is a character in Mahabharata who is an extremely grey character. He has qll the qualities of a hero but he choose the wrong side during the Kurushetra war because he just couldn't overcome his personal issues. So in a way it's redemption arc for Bhairava's character too as he is the reincarnation of Karna.

Also he is one of the most interesting character because you will both sympathy towards him for what he had to face because his mother abandoned him but the same time he was choosing to side with the wrong just because Duryodhana was good to him. Karna had some real issues and I guess he will make the right decisions in this movie

The Character That Prabhas Played At The End on the Battlefield Was " Karna", Karna Had A Bow Which Was Called As "Vijaya Bow", Which Was Considered One Of The Strongest Weapons of The War & That Bow Was With Ashwatthama, But He Could Not Use It To It's Full Potential Because it belonged to Karna, & in the end we get to know that Prabhas as Bhairava is the incarnation / interpretation of Karna, but he does not yet, who is he & when that bow touched Bhairava, it brought Karna's Force or soul ( to put it in simple terms) in front of us & took over his mind & body.. but he snaps out of it & does not remember a think, in the future movie now Ashwatthama needs to remind Bhairava of his true self, his true potential, his purpose & let me tell you some things on karna ( Although Wikipedia Will Give You More Info But Mahabharat is so complex in terms of perspective, Karma, Duties, right & wrong that ever detail has deep meaning in it) He is a tragic hero in the Mahabharata, in a manner of "flawed good man". Karna is a symbol of someone who is rejected by those who should love him but do not given the circumstances, yet becomes a man of exceptional abilities willing to give his love and life as a loyal friend. His character is developed in the epic to raise and discuss major emotional and dharma (duty, ethics, moral) dilemmas. A Guy Whose life had many layers & who was an exceptional skilled warrior. The Karna Reveal Was A Surprise to us as well and we all had a hint that his character will have a major twist but did not anticipate such a massive twist. So at the end Supreme yaskin got his hands on the other bow called as Gandiva, which belonged to Arjun ( The One Who Fought With Young Ashwatthama & Karna) & That Bow Too is also considered one the greatest weapons of the war & now it is with yaskin so in the 2nd part we will witness these 2 might weapons fight each other The Serum is kind of a liquid type thing, that helps yaskin to prolong his life, make him youthful & physical & possibly mentally strong, I think he wants more power and to become immortal & make himself closer to gods & in his chamber you see clones in the surrounding tanks, so he might even create more of himself with this immense power & he is the interpretation of Kali, who is the main villain and Kalki after being born will defeat Kali & bring back good over evil The Serum extracted from sumati was just 1 drop & see the change it brought in yaskin, imagine what he will become if he gets hold of the baby or even Sumathi before giving birth Another thing about the cgi face of Ashwatthama, the director wanted it to keep it authentic I guess by doing it on the actor, India is new to deageing tech & have got better at it in past few years and we are improving, they should have gone with red chillies vfx company for it, they do the best work in india but here in India we are loving it because of the presentation of the whole Mahabharata Scenes. Made on a budget in the range of $72 Million & indian film industry is the only film industry in the world that is still celebrating its movie stars on a massive scale along with their Directors & please keep an eye out on the production house & director as they are planning to release more content on the film post Release & surly do catch on the Prequel of this movie set 2 years before 2898 Ad on Amazon Prime Video, an animated 2 episode 15 mins each called " Bujji & Bhairava" on how the meet & their first mission together, more episodes will be added post Release of the movie And as Austin predicted the future plot with Bhairava, we are also thinking the same things , there are so many references to our culture, history & mythological that I can a whole research paper on it. They can not replace young Ashwathama with a younger actor, because the person playing it "Amitabh Bacchan" is a very popular star in India and has been in the movies for past 50-60 years. Everyone vividly knows how he looked like in his younger days
I am gonna go bit too deep.. I don't even think the director thought abt this but when I was watching the film it clicked for me... So in the Mahabharat war (rhe flashbacks), Prabhas's character Karma is a morally grey character who despite being a kind of good guy was fighting from the bad side. Now Krishna the God the one who is the silhouette and supposed to be born as the Avatar.. Tried to convince Karna to join the good side before the warbut Karna refused knowing full and well that he is refusing to join the good side because of his prior commitment... So thr Lord Krishna promised him that when they meet in the their rebirth thy would be friends and on the same side... Then Karna in the war gets killed off in a kind of unfair manner and not befitting the warrior he was at the order of the Lord himself (kind of a judgement for being on the wrong side)... But the movie here in his rebirth is trying to give him redemption by making him the catalyst in bringing the Lord back on earth
Explain how Karna was a good guy? He ganged up on a 16 year old, who didn't even have any weapons on him. He called Draupadi a wh*re in front of the entire court, just because she rejected marrying him years ago.

The staff that Ashwatthama has belonged to Karna in the old yuga, so when Prabhas character touches the staff at the end of the movie then he slips into his old warrior mode.

56:53 . SPOILERS. The explanation to your confusion is found in the pre interval scene. Prabhas in his Bhairava form asks a fortune teller to predict his future and then the teller hints at him facing a big challenge. Then, an uncle who has a miniature statue of a Hindu god ( Bhairava) randomly exclaims that Prabhas himself is an avatar of the said god. As the film progresses, we see prabhas causing havoc on Ashwathamma , an immortal force. This could only mean that prabhas is an avatar of the god.
The Bahubaliesque look in the battlefield that you saw of Prabhas was a call to his past life character in the previous Yuga which was Dwapar Yuga, where he fought in the Mahabharta battle and he was called Karna (son of God Sun). As Karna he was an epic fighter, master in archery, but he fought from the wrong side in Mahabharat war and therefore to prevail the good over evil he had to die and he was killed by Arjuna(whom you saw Prabhas as Karna was fighting there in the battle). Arjuna was the protagonist there in the war. So here in this movie in Kaliyuga Prabhas's character was reincarnation of the epic warrior Karna. During the 3rd act the staff or the long stick Aswatthma was carrying and fighting with was actually the bow of Karna from Mahabharat war and when that bow came to Prabhas's hand his past life Karna character came into being. So he was in a trance then when he got hold of the bow and became Karna again for that time being. In this Kaliyuga Prabhas's characters reincarnation was actually for his redemption to happen.
The moment of Bhairava transforming happened becoz he accidentally touches his old celestial weapon that he used in his previous life. The context is given with Ashwatthama already foreshadowing to the kid that his staff belonged to his friend who was very powerful and the staff turns into a great weapon only in his hands. Issue for you is not knowing Mahabharata which would have given great context and justification for the events.
In mahabaratha , may be director felt if there is one character that justice is not done is karna character , so may be he took creative liberty to do justice to karna character by reincarnating him again after 6000 years.

Let me try to explain basics So in Mahabharata a war was fought between two groups Pandavas (protagonists) and Kauravas ( antagonists) they were cousins , Pandavas were 5 brothers and Kauravas were 100 and the eldest one was duryodhana ( has not appeared in this movie) and the character of both prabhas and ashwatthama were on the side of antagonists. Karna is one of the most interesting and tragic characters in the Mahabharata. He is actually the eldest brother of the Pandavas but is raised by a charioteer after being abandoned by his mother, Kunti, at birth. Unaware of his true heritage, Karna grows up facing a lot of social discrimination but becomes an incredibly skilled warrior.He is known for his loyalty to Duryodhana, who befriends and supports him when no one else would. This loyalty puts Karna in direct conflict with his own brothers, although he doesn't know about his true parentage until later in the story. So in the movie there were various hints given about him that you cannot catch you've not read Mahabharata, Like he says he never lost a battle was true as he was so skilled Archer that the protagonists were not able to kill him so Krishna (the literal God) has to cheat to kill him, and other hints like he was adopted and raised by a driver (charioteer)

Never lost a battle? He lost fair and square in Virat war. The only reason why ge wasn't losing a battle during the Kurukshetra War was that then he was using Lord Shiva's Vijay Bow; whomsoever wielded it, never lost. Even in the movie, Ashwatthama didn't lose as long as he was holding that Bow.
I would recommend you guys to please read the Indian epic, Mahabharata once. However, the key oulines from the movie (SPOILER ALERT!): 1) Karna was a grey kind of character in Mahabharata, originally the son of Sun God (Suryadev) ,conceived by Kunti and later on had to abandon him. But he was not aware of his original parents and brought up in a poor family, where he was devoid of any kind of lavish lifestyle that usually a king has. The movie did justice to the character of bhairava as he was the reincarnated version of Karna. Just like Karna , Bhiarava had that urge to live a prosperous life in complex as he was just a bounty hunter, considered to be poor. He also was short of Units as he always spend them for others people's benifit (portraying the selflessness and giving nature of Karna). 2) In the first half of the movie, it was shown that Bhairava had no parents and brought up by a person whom he called Captain and considered as his brother. The Captain nurtured him and mastered him in prolly all aspects. But It can be seen in the movie that this Captain was a gambler ( which gives a big reference to one of the characters in Mahabharat who brought up Karna as his brother and was a gambler too, Duryodhan :), not sure about it but its just my understanding tho...)
They referenced that moment during the interval when he stops that wheel from falling. That imagery is straight from when Karna was killed during the kurukshetra war when his wheel got stuck and he had to get down and remove it. Karna was killed and this seems to be reincarnation
i am gonna say you will get confused in somethings if you don't know the basic story line and character from Mahabharata so i recommend yo to watch some videos about that epic and whats it about and the character in it to get the full graps.

Prabhas is the reincarnation of Karna, so as soon as the staff touches Prabhas as Karna, he taps into his original form, and once he loses it, he snaps out of it
Spoilers! - - - - If you understand karnas character he was abandoned by his mother cause she had him with the sun(surya) itself before she was wed and that he was raised in relative poverty and wanted to get into royalty cause of his inherent skills. And he gets in by partnering with a villain of the mahabharata too. it mirrors Bhairavas character of wanting to get into that palace in the sky by partnering with the villain.
You will notice that Indian movies are always a lot louder than hollywood movies as there is lot of cheering in Indian movie theaters so they keep it loud.
So Karna is the 1st son and is the son of the Sun god Surya he had a claim to the throne as the eldest as the first born but unfortunately due to circumstances he didn’t know any of that because at birth because the mother was scared he was given away and his brothers or the people he is related to by blood the Pandavas or the 5 sons of pandu didn’t know he was there eldest brother and they kept disrespecting him and he couldn’t get over that during the war he had qualities of a great leader and a hero but unfortunately his negative emotions took over during the kurksethra war and it’s hinted at that Bhairava is the reincarnation of Karna pre interval when he’s holding the wheel by himself that shows he’s a demigod and I think it’ll eventually show his redemption arc where he faces off against Yaskin alongside aswatamma and kalki but it shows when he’s holding the staff he kind of remembers but not fully so when the staff goes amnesia happens again but I really think there definitely will be a redemption arc for Bhairava in part 2

Prabhas may not play a significant role in the sequel there is a character introduced in this movie who might play a very significant role in the next part because he is one of the immortals ( parshuram) So get ready for a list of new character which will be added in the story

I understand you had that cliffhanger feeling because you need to understand a lot that happens in context of Indian EPIC Mahabharat and played by these Legendary actors Amitabh as Aswathama, Prabhas as Bhairava. Mahabharat is believed to be historic culminated in EPIC war between two warring sides and Prabhas, who is shown as Karna in his previous life. Yes Reincarnation is the basic concept you have to know. So Prabhas Reincarnates as Bhairava and he held that weapon that gets activated in the last scene in his Previous life as Karna. Regarding Aswathama, he fights on losing side along with Karna (Prabhas) in Mahabharat war. He thinks his father gets killed by cheating (who's shown in the beginning scene with his head taken of with sword). As a revenge he kills of other side clans kids in sleep and launches the nuclear weapon (Brahmastea) that attacked the pregnant woman who's carrying the only child of winning side. For these heinous acts Lord krishna punishes him to suffer by not dying and living eternally watching all the atrocious acts of humans committing on each other. Until Lord Krishna who's Vishnu avatar returns as Kalki in new Avatar. But this time Aswathama and Bhairava (Karna in previous life) gets to fight on good side. (probably winning). i will tell you facts of karna (prabhas's previous life) In mahabharat just like vergin marry mother kunti could have children of gods if she chnted a spell. these kids were pandavas the 5 brothers. pandu was there father but not biological. arjun the man who was with krishna is also the most powerful pandava. here's the twist mother kunti had 6 children. the first born karna. kunti just tried the spell before getting married to pandu, and to her surprise she got pregnant, in fear of getting shamed by people she put karna in a basket and set him afloat in river. later on the he got adopted by a driver, the driver of king dritarashtra (pandu's elder brother). karna was skillful but everyone denied teaching until parashurama (vishnu's avatar) he gave karna vijay dhanush (shiva's bow). karna also had a unbreakable armour from his father the sun god. this made karna the ultimate warrior. trained by vishnu and the son of sungod. only vishnu or shiva was capable of killing him not even arjun was close. meaning he was the most powerful pandava. if you want more i will give you the info how he ended and why he fought from bad side. comment info.
As per original Mahabharata, Karna's skills were inferior than Arjuna's. The reason he wasn't getting defeated in Kurukshetra (he got defeated in earlier battles, such as in Virat), was that he had acquired Lord Shiva's Vijay bow (the one who wielded it never lost)

The hero kind of character of Prabhas is Karna, demi god, Son of the Sun God. Karna is a character in Mahabharata who is an extremely grey character. He has qll the qualities of a hero but he choose the wrong side during the Kurushetra war because he just couldn't overcome his personal issues. So in a way it's redemption arc for Bhairava's character too as he is the reincarnation of Karna.

The Character That Prabhas Played At The End on the Battlefield Was " Karna", Karna Had A Bow Which Was Called As "Vijaya Bow", Which Was Considered One Of The Strongest Weapons of The War & That Bow Was With Ashwatthama, But He Could Not Use It To It's Full Potential Because it belonged to Karna, & in the end we get to know that Prabhas as Bhairava is the incarnation / interpretation of Karna, but he does not yet, who is he & when that bow touched Bhairava, it brought Karna's Force or soul ( to put it in simple terms) in front of us & took over his mind & body.. but he snaps out of it & does not remember a think, in the future movie now Ashwatthama needs to remind Bhairava of his true self, his true potential, his purpose & let me tell you some things on karna ( Although Wikipedia Will Give You More Info But Mahabharat is so complex in terms of perspective, Karma, Duties, right & wrong that ever detail has deep meaning in it)
He is a tragic hero in the Mahabharata, in a manner of "flawed good man". The Karna Reveal Was A Surprise to us as well and we all had a hint that his character will have a major twist but did not anticipate such a massive twist.
So at the end Supreme yaskin got his hands on the other bow called as Gandiva, which belonged to Arjun ( The One Who Fought With Young Ashwatthama & Karna) & That Bow Too is also considered one the greatest weapons of the war & now it is with yaskin so in the 2nd part we will witness these 2 might weapons fight each other
The Serum is kind of a liquid type thing, that helps yaskin to prolong his life, make him youthful & physical & possibly mentally strong, I think he wants more power and to become immortal & make himself closer to gods & in his chamber you see clones in the surrounding tanks, so he might even create more of himself with this immense power & he is the interpretation of Kali, who is the main villain and Kalki after being born will defeat Kali & bring back good over evil
The Serum extracted from sumati was just 1 drop & see the change it brought in yaskin, imagine what he will become if he gets hold of the baby or even Sumathi before giving birth
Another thing about the cgi face of Ashwatthama, the director wanted it to keep it authentic I guess by doing it on the actor, India is new to deageing tech & have got better at it in past few years and we are improving, they should have gone with red chillies vfx company for it, they do the best work in india but here in India we are loving it because of the presentation of the whole Mahabharata Scenes.
Made on a budget in the range of $72 Million & indian film industry is the only film industry in the world that is still celebrating its movie stars on a massive scale along with their Directors & please keep an eye out on the production house & director as they are planning to release more content on the film post Release & surly do catch on the Prequel of this movie set 2 years before 2898 Ad on Amazon Prime Video, an animated 2 episode 15 mins each called " Bujji & Bhairava" on how the meet & their first mission together, more episodes will be added post Release of the movie

So in the Mahabharat war (rhe flashbacks), Prabhas's character Karma is a morally grey character who despite being a kind of good guy was fighting from the bad side. Now Krishna the God the one who is the silhouette and supposed to be born as the Avatar.. Tried to convince Karna to join the good side before the warbut Karna refused knowing full and well that he is refusing to join the good side because of his prior commitment... So thr Lord Krishna promised him that when they meet in the their rebirth thy would be friends and on the same side... Then Karna in the war gets killed off in a kind of unfair manner and not befitting the warrior he was at the order of the Lord himself (kind of a judgement for being on the wrong side)... But the movie here in his rebirth is trying to give him redemption by making him the catalyst in bringing the Lord back on earth

56:53 . SPOILERS. The explanation to your confusion is found in the pre interval scene. Prabhas in his Bhairava form asks a fortune teller to predict his future and then the teller hints at him facing a big challenge. Then, an uncle who has a miniature statue of a Hindu god ( Bhairava) randomly exclaims that Prabhas himself is an avatar of the said god. As the film progresses, we see prabhas causing havoc on Ashwathamma , an immortal force. This could only mean that prabhas is an avatar of the god.
The Bahubaliesque look in the battlefield that you saw of Prabhas was a call to his past life character in the previous Yuga which was Dwapar Yuga, where he fought in the Mahabharta battle and he was called Karna (son of God Sun). As Karna he was an epic fighter, master in archery, but he fought from the wrong side in Mahabharat war and therefore to prevail the good over evil he had to die and he was killed by Arjuna(whom you saw Prabhas as Karna was fighting there in the battle). Arjuna was the protagonist there in the war. So here in this movie in Kaliyuga Prabhas's character was reincarnation of the epic warrior Karna. During the 3rd act the staff or the long stick Aswatthma was carrying and fighting with was actually the bow of Karna from Mahabharat war and when that bow came to Prabhas's hand his past life Karna character came into being. So he was in a trance then when he got hold of the bow and became Karna again for that time being. In this Kaliyuga Prabhas's characters reincarnation was actually for his redemption to happen.
The moment of Bhairava transforming happened becoz he accidentally touches his old celestial weapon that he used in his previous life.
The context is given with Ashwatthama already foreshadowing to the kid that his staff belonged to his friend who was very powerful and the staff turns into a great weapon only in his hands.
Issue for you is not knowing Mahabharata which would have given great context and justification for the events.
In mahabaratha , may be director felt if there is one character that justice is not done is karna character , so may be he took creative liberty to do justice to karna character by reincarnating him again after 6000 years.

Mostly indians would know it

Let me try to explain basics
So in Mahabharata a war was fought between two groups Pandavas (protagonists) and Kauravas ( antagonists) they were cousins , Pandavas were 5 brothers and Kauravas were 100 and the eldest one was duryodhana ( has not appeared in this movie) and the character of both prabhas and ashwatthama were on the side of antagonists.
Karna is one of the most interesting and tragic characters in the Mahabharata. He is actually the eldest brother of the Pandavas but is raised by a charioteer after being abandoned by his mother, Kunti, at birth. Unaware of his true heritage, Karna grows up facing a lot of social discrimination but becomes an incredibly skilled warrior.He is known for his loyalty to Duryodhana, who befriends and supports him when no one else would. So in the movie there were various hints given about him that you cannot catch you've not read Mahabharata,

I would recommend you guys to please read the Indian epic, Mahabharata once. However, the key oulines from the movie (SPOILER ALERT!):
1) Karna was a grey kind of character in Mahabharata, originally the son of Sun God (Suryadev) ,conceived by Kunti and later on had to abandon him. But he was not aware of his original parents and brought up in a poor family, where he was devoid of any kind of lavish lifestyle that usually a king has. The movie did justice to the character of bhairava as he was the reincarnated version of Karna. Just like Karna , Bhiarava had that urge to live a prosperous life in complex as he was just a bounty hunter, considered to be poor. He also was short of Units as he always spend them for others people's benifit (portraying the selflessness and giving nature of Karna).
2) In the first half of the movie, it was shown that Bhairava had no parents and brought up by a person whom he called Captain and considered as his brother. The Captain nurtured him and mastered him in prolly all aspects. But It can be seen in the movie that this Captain was a gambler ( which gives a big reference to one of the characters in Mahabharat who brought up Karna as his brother and was a gambler too, Duryodhan :), not sure about it but its just my understanding tho...)
They referenced that moment during the interval when he stops that wheel from falling. That imagery is straight from when Karna was killed during the kurukshetra war when his wheel got stuck and he had to get down and remove it. Karna was killed and this seems to be reincarnation
And he tarrot card also had sun on it which might be pointing out to karna,who is the son of sungod
i am gonna say you will get confused in somethings if you don't know the basic story line and character from Mahabharata so i recommend yo to watch some videos about that epic and whats it about and the character in it to get the full graps.

Prabhas is the reincarnation of Karna, so as soon as the staff touches Prabhas as Karna, he taps into his original form, and once he loses it, he snaps out of it

If you understand karnas character he was abandoned by his mother cause she had him with the sun(surya) itself before she was wed and that he was raised in relative poverty and wanted to get into royalty cause of his inherent skills. And he gets in by partnering with a villain of the mahabharata too. it mirrors Bhairavas character of wanting to get into that palace in the sky by partnering with the villain.

So Karna is the 1st son and is the son of the Sun god Surya he had a claim to the throne as the eldest as the first born but unfortunately due to circumstances he didn’t know any of that because at birth because the mother was scared he was given away and his brothers or the people he is related to by blood the Pandavas or the 5 sons of pandu didn’t know he was there eldest brother and they kept disrespecting him and he couldn’t get over that during the war he had qualities of a great leader and a hero but unfortunately his negative emotions took over during the kurksethra war and it’s hinted at that Bhairava is the reincarnation of Karna pre interval when he’s holding the wheel by himself that shows he’s a demigod and I think it’ll eventually show his redemption arc where he faces off against Yaskin alongside aswatamma and kalki but it shows when he’s holding the staff he kind of remembers but not fully so when the staff goes amnesia happens again but I really think there definitely will be a redemption arc for Bhairava in part 2

1. There are 7 immortals according to Hindu literature this movie has only shown one that is Ashwathama played by amitabh bachhan
2. Ashwathama is not belived to be the strongest one of the lot
3. If the movie stays true to the literature then you will see the main antagonist is actually not the one shown in this part of the movie
4. Prabhas may not play a significant role in the sequel there is a character introduced in this movie who might play a very significant role in the next part because he is one of the immortals ( parshuram)
So get ready for a list of new character which will be added in the story

I was curious and watched this whole podcast. I understand you had that cliffhanger feeling because you need to understand a lot that happens in context of Indian EPIC Mahabharat and played by these Legendary actors Amitabh as Aswathama, Prabhas as Bhairava. Mahabharat is believed to be historic culminated in EPIC war between two warring sides and Prabhas, who is shown as Karna in his previous life. Yes Reincarnation is the basic concept you have to know. So Prabhas Reincarnates as Bhairava and he held that weapon that gets activated in the last scene in his Previous life as Karna. Regarding Aswathama, he fights on losing side along with Karna (Prabhas) in Mahabharat war. He thinks his father gets killed by cheating (who's shown in the beginning scene with his head taken of with sword). As a revenge he kills of other side clans kids in sleep and launches the nuclear weapon (Brahmastea) that attacked the pregnant woman who's carrying the only child of winning side. For these heinous acts Lord krishna punishes him to suffer by not dying and living eternally watching all the atrocious acts of humans committing on each
other. Until Lord Krishna who's Vishnu avatar returns as Kalki in new Avatar. But this time Aswathama and Bhairava (Karna in previous life) gets to fight on good side. (probably winning). Still there are many more contextual things that you might not have understood.

To really appreciate this movie, one has to know the entire Mahabharata lore and Karna's story. Pandava Arjuna of the series is revered by everyone-by his parents, by his teacher, by his siblings-and he was destined to achieve greatness from the day he was born. He has the best teacher and is known as one of the greatest warriors among the entire series, and is the Pandavas' main ace. He himself believes to be the greatest.
However, when you watch Kalki and see the flashback where Amitabh Bachchan is defeated by Arjuna, the child asks if Arjuna is the greatest warrior. Amithabh replies, "No." That entire "No" speaks volumes about Karna and his entry in the movie tells us the rest

Shambala is a mythical city mentioned in the Hindu scriptures, where it is believed that kalki will take birth to Sumathi (SU-M80 in the movie). As mentioned in the movie, Kalki will take birth when the world is filled with evil. More like the second coming of Christ.

i will tell you facts of karna (prabhas's previous life)
In mahabharat just like vergin marry mother kunti could have children of gods if she chnted a spell. these kids were pandavas the 5 brothers. pandu was there father but not biological. arjun the man who was with krishna is also the most powerful pandava.
here's the twist mother kunti had 6 children. the first born karna. kunti just tried the spell before getting married to pandu, and to her surprise she got pregnant, in fear of getting shamed by people she put karna in a basket and set him afloat in river. later on the he got adopted by a driver, the driver of king dritarashtra (pandu's elder brother).
karna was skillful but everyone denied teaching until parashurama (vishnu's avatar) he gave karna vijay dhanush (shiva's bow). karna also had a unbreakable armour from his father the sun god. this made karna the ultimate warrior. trained by vishnu and the son of sungod. only vishnu or shiva was capable of killing him not even arjun was close. meaning he was the most powerful pandava.

As per original Mahabharata, Karna's skills were inferior than Arjuna's. The reason he wasn't getting defeated in Kurukshetra (he got defeated in earlier battles, such as in Virat), was that he had acquired Lord Shiva's Vijay bow (the one who wielded it never lost)
Mahabharat(so big, so epic) and ramayana are 2 big hindu scriptures which Indians as whole (cinema fans, cinema industry,etc,..) wishes to bring to life. "Rajamouli" unarguably accepted as the biggest director in our country has said his final project of his career would be "Mahabharata".
