  • Enchanted Forest Water Safari is a water and theme park in Old Forge, New York. This park opened back in 1956 as a walkthrough attraction, but it has since grown into an amusement park and one of the best water parks in the northeast.

I work locally, about 45 minutes away (that's local by adirondack standards), and have been to the park four times in the 3 years I've been up here. My biggest tips are:
    1. the park allows you to bring in your own food so pack a lunch and bring a cooler. EDIT: the park was just sold and no longer allows food for everyone, You may only bring food if you have a food requirement.
    2. while it's far from bathwater, the water rides do tend to have some heating done so even when its into the 70s you can enjoy many of the water rides, though this will still vary based on how you handle temperature.
    3. if you're willing to deal with some rain you often can enjoy the water rides with 0 to 5 minute waits on days where it's just a bit more cloudy with potential of rain, but there is no rain check if it gets really bad so you are taking a risk they close with really bad weather.
    4. If you do have to grab food in the park go for the pizza, its obviously just a premade frozen kind, but it's probably the most filling for the price being around 3 dollars a slice. hot dogs are lik 4.80 and fries can be 6-12 cause they're kind of a signature despite not being special (though they are good I can't deny).
    5. There is a Kinny Drugs (drugstore) in town that you should go to for sunscreen if you forget it. A normal generic can of 30 spf spray will cost you 17.00 dollars.
    6. If you can bring your own food or wait til after there are plenty of very good restaurants around Old Forge. (same goes for breakfast before). I highly recommend Frankie's Taste of Italy, little expensive, I'd suggest it for couples over families, but they're really good with big portions (they serve the gnocci by the salad bowl).
    7. For ice cream (as what's a sumer vacation day without it?) I suggest going up to Inlet, NY for Northern Lights (cash only). They have a great selection of specials as well as Perry's which is a signature local ice-cream of NY with tons of great flavors. If you're already going that way it's a crime not to stop.
    8. The Calypso's Cove section really is seperate requiring additional fees for mini golf or go-karting.

Thank you for this. The park was a huge part of my summers growing up with my family. We would go camping with friends up in Old Forge and this made me smile. I appreciate your work so much.

Mannnnnnn I miss going here. I used to live 45 minutes - an hour drive away, and my mom and dad took me there every summer in July up until 2019 or so. Honestly my favorite park I’ve been to. No other water parks feel the same as it. Yeah the food is kinda expensive and isn’t too great but it’s an amazing experience. I’d recommend it if you live anywhere within a 5 hour drive. You definitely won’t regret it. I still have ptsd from my dad messing with the locks on the bumble bee ferris wheel thing lol

I luv going here during the summers. It's got a good mix of dry and wet rides and it's quite cheaper than other water parks. Would recommend coming with family, it just makes it more fun!

Hi there! My dad owed Old Forge Lake Cruises across the street from EFWS (Where the fun never stops! bum bum!). I had a seasons pass as soon as I could get one and was there practically every day from ages 8-12 with my friends.
Locals have a different strat for tackling the park in a day. Start with the walkthrough (or train if you can catch it) to the back with dry rides, change and do the back slides until you hit the wavepool/ Fnaf Tavern (fun fact: all the parts for the animatronics are stored in the roof of the petting zoo barn) for bosco sticks, then work your way to the arcade, change back into street clothes and then cap the day with the skyride.
Most folks file into Calypso's Cove once the main park closes for some Go Karts and Arcading. Its so funny to see games in the Park arcade that I clearly remember at Calypso's. Good memories all around! Thanks for posting!

I first went here in 1968, and since then, every summer. I eventually took my kids there, and now we are planning on taking our grandchildren. This is the BEST park, hands down!!

My parents friends lived there for awhile, somehow they got unlimited passes for the rest of their lives so it was normal for us to go, we never went on the sky ride though, since we knew the whole park layout. I’m going this year and hopefully years ahead

Like Seabreeze, it's yet another park that had a catchy jingle on TV/Radio commercials if you grew up in the area: "Enchanted For-est Water Safariiii, where the fun never stops! (Da da)"
Pretty spot-on review. Even if you live in Syracuse/Utica it's still a hike to get up there, but certainly worth it for a day if you love water slides. I think the classics like the rapids ride make it worth it because it does differ from your standard cookie-cutter slides, and I'm actually sad to hear the original Kilimanjaro slide is gone. It may not have been too steep but it was still legendary, a slide that was a rite of passage for many to "step up" to bigger thrills. The trap-door slides may be intimidating but they're also everywhere now so I don't find them as special.
On another note about food, there's an excellent locally-owned hot dog place adjacent to the parking lot that is better (and cheaper) than anything you can get in the park, so it's worth getting your handstamp to check it out, it's not even a minute's walk from the gate since the park entrance is pretty close to the main road.

How smooth was the old Killermanjaro slide?

    • @wildcattb5
      @wildcattb5 Год назад

@@CanobieCoaster probably on the rougher side given its age. I'm sure that was a factor in its removal. Obviously it's a smart business decision to invest in the trap-door slides, I just wish they would've done a newer/steeper replacement of Kilimanjaro instead as an homage and something different.

Notable update. The park did just sell and no longer allows you to bring in food. It's still not bad to bring food and leave it in the car to eat outside then go in.

    • @CanobieCoaster

The water park is definitely the main focus, so I view the dry rides as a bonus.
