I am a trumpet player and this is the first song I played in the symphonic band ! Although this song is challenging for me , it is very awesome ! When I perform the notes successfully , I felt good and exciting ! I like this song so much ! This performance is totally awesome !
True story. I was one of the 1st people to ever play this piece. It was a competition sight reading piece in Montreal in spring of 82. I don't think it was published til 83. My band got a 48 out of 50 on it. Great piece.
My band director gave this to my band to sight read, after we were done literally said "" that didn't suck , this song was suppose to be for band 4. But I decided to let you guys have a crack at it. And it wasn't terrible" that has to be one of the best complements I have gotten from my band director
After watching a few videos of other bands performing this song, I'm beginning to think my high school band played it waaaay too fast. It was extremely fun, though. :D

rotary trumpets. usually used in orchestras in europe especially Germany. (check Berlin Philharmonic) Gives a more mellow and darker sound. However, still sound different from the cornets. =)
Eventhough I'm not in the woodwinds section, i can feel my friend's struggling with those notes at 21-22.. best experienced ever!! - ex-trumpet/horn player 2004

This was actually the sightreading piece my hs played in Montreal in 1982. We swept and got a near perfect score on this piece. Great piece of music.
