Hi Diane. What a comforting thing you have said! I have started out crafting, sketching and painting (trying out various mediums) and so I am finding myself scrolling for hours through pinterest and youtube, ending up paralysed (doing nothing) because of overwhelm... i then suffer from decision fatigue.. i think I will foĺlow a new strategy from here on- there are two other artists also like you on YT that does mini paintings. I will look through that and decide on doing one that is beautiful to me, rather than trying to master painting all detailed flowers and everything possible under the sun! A mini painting is something that I can finish in one sitting. I am also liking ink and wash a lot! And maybe in my free time i can then practice sketching and have things to paint lateron. But yes, it meant a lot for me to hear that you also find it overwhelming. I loved this tutorial...it is kinda playing around, being curious and see what can happen. I think for now I will stick with you and two other youtubers and let go of the overwhelm! And as you said - making my art my own, finding my own style through experimenting and..letting art find me! Warm regards from South Africa.❤
What you just wrote is exactly what happens to me on Pinterest. I delete them over and over because they tract things I don’t want even if I just peeked at it! I’m finding my art style also and this channel helps me not get overwhelmed and just relax and enjoy the process.
I resonate with your message. Though I don't go on pinterest, I have saved many photos I've thought would make a good painting. It's the overwhelm and indecisiveness that paralyzes me. Thank you for being the one to express it!
This is exactly what happens to me and then my time is gone and I did nothing and I’m not very happy with myself…so I stopped going there for the most part!
I love seeing these art works develop. Very inspirational. I don't like the sound of the paint brush being rinsed out each time, it seems to break the calmness and enjoyment for me. Maybe the water container is too close.
Your whimsical wonders are WONDERFUL. They generate happiness. Please continue to always do that. Trying to paint reality-based is just so hard for most, yet we are willing to try the more fun whimsical and happy fun results
The intense fall colors are divine. Your painting is lush and beautiful. Personally, I love the doodles but this is a welcome change. Please do both. ♥️♥️♥️
Ooooo. I love that pop of RED!!! Autumn is my favorite time of year. Oh crap. I probably shouldn't have advertised that. I'll be in for it niw! Oh well!!😂
Your style is different from anyone... I like it and don't change to realistic, keep your painting like you always have... You know your style and it's one of a kind💕
I'm a 73 yr old great grandmother in the US. Just found you on RUclips about 6 months ago. I LOVE all your videos and have watched them over and over. I'm not an artist by any means but have loved watercolor painting for years now. I found myself fussing over my paintings way too much and even putting my paints away for a while. You've taught me soooo much and I've started to loosen up! Now, painting is fun again. Love to hear your stories about your art but also your family and traveling. Love hearing the swishing of your brush in the water jar, that's the sound of a true artist. Also love your wit. Keep it up Diane 😊
Thanks so much Mellieanne, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. So glad you are finding a bit of freedom in your painting. We have the right to be loose and enjoy what we do. We don’t have to please anyone except ourselves and heaven. Thanks again, sending love xxx
Your whimsical drawings have given me confidence, because the drawing is less difficult and I can focus on the painting. They are cheerful and quick to do.
I love all of your art….your painting is so diversified and interesting. You turn “just paper” into something beautiful be it serious and whimsical! I’m still trying to deal with my “perfectness” and I have a long way to go! You just put brush and paint to paper and we see something wonderful appear! I love it all!❤
You bring in a fresh approach and don't forget JOY to painting. I feel like I'm listening to a friend as well as a professional artist. Family and friends have been asking for prints and these are easy when I haven't had time to produce much. Thanks for saving my behind😅😅
I know what you mean about being overwhelmed, I disappear into the Pinterest rabbit hole and emerge bewildered, dithering and frequently despondent because when I do put paint to paper it doesn’t turn out as I’d imagined. Watching you paint calms my soul and gives me hope 😊
I very quickly get lost on there. And a lot of it is actually very poor art, and then a lot is computer generated art, or Procreate digital art, and some is commercial and intended for business use, and some is very difficult and not helpful, and some is in some way deceitful - it’s all a complete mess of confusion. Which is how my head ends up after half an hour of “research!”
Following you painting, I thought you were creating a design in color. Then you turned the work into a woodland scene. Great idea. I liked seeing the finished work in a frame! You don’t often do that! Autumn is my favorite season with the vibrant colors. Thank you for sharing!❤
Thank you for listening to your biggest fans, Diane. I absolutely loved watching you do this, and I'm so in awe how you could make this look so easy but turn it into a beautiful piece of art. You are so talented, and this tutorial emphasizes how creative you are. I think you are 100% correct about watching too many internet videos. Pretty soon, all our art starts to look the same!
Your whimsical art is what got me to love, watercolor ❤ My husband still has the three birds I learned from you in his office :) I love everything you do You teach and I shall learn :)
What a gorgeous bright autumnal painting Diane and your whole process oozed relaxation and zen. I stopped myself from looking at other pictures on Pintrest when going to do a painting for this reason I became so overwhelmed that I thought my idea wasn’t good enough and ended up with a headache and not painting at all. I am now at present happy following your tutorials Diane and sometimes putting my own spin on it by doing another one. This at the moment is keeping me happy and enjoying my painting as I recover from meningitis. You are an awesome artist Diane and really do inspire me to put paint to paper as you always turn your paintings into beautiful paintings that would look great hanging on a wall or in a frame on your sideboard. Thankyou for your inspiration and daily dose of awesomeness. I love your fur babies too ❤. Xx🥰🏴
Thanks so much Vivienne and I hope you are soon completely better from your meningitis, which I’m sure is horrible and frightening. Thanks for your kind words and I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos, it’s wonderful to hear about your appreciation and how you are learning from the videos. Keep well and happy painting xxx
Really loved this one, Diane….not only are the colours fab, but also especially enjoyed your describing the process and your thoughts today. Thank you 🤗💕🤗
Thankyou so much @sheilacym for your kind words. It’s taking a while to get back to some normality but painting along with Diane keeps me focused. ❤️🥰🏴
Love this, Diane!! While I enjoy some doodling and line work, I enjoy nature painting more. YES, I think today's society suffers from information overload in so many areas of life. I find that if I have an idea, I should just go with it and not do any "research," which usually results in doubt of my idea or changes that end up as copying. End result makes the idea no longer "mine." This applies to not just art, but I have caught myself doing it when decorating my home, choosing new linens, etc.
Ditto! I am also researching everything up to the level of exhaustion and paralysis! Nowadays i try to set a timer for surfing, but I only sometimes adhere to my own rule😅
Ditto! I am also researching everything up to the level of exhaustion and paralysis! Nowadays i try to set a timer for surfing, but I only sometimes adhere to my own rule😅
Thank you for that lovely touch of autumn. Such beautiful colours! I do so enjoy watching you paint. I agree about the overload of images, particularly on Pinterest where the screen is full of images intersperced with videos of people painting at breakneck speed. Not at all relaxing as painting should be! Keep going Diane your videos and chat are a real tonic x
Thank you Diane for a delightful morning of art. I get the over whelming part of choosing what to do an end up doing nothing.... I like your loose landscape very much. Bless your sleeping gallery of fur balls, they bring a lot of comfort to you 🐈⬛🐾🐾🐈🐾🐾❤
Thank you Diane. It was so enjoyable to listen to you chat while those vibrant colours came to life on the paper. Seeing your adorable fur babies sleeping at the end was the icing on the cake! Have a great day. Love from Australia.
Good Morning Diane. You are a relief to my stressful days. I love all the different things you do. I have been watching and watching as many videos as I can. I have learned so much and have put my style on them once I get the hang of it. I am trying to care for my 91 year old father because my mother passed away January of this year. Your soft voice and easy style of teaching calms my brain. Thank you for all you do. You are the best!
I was drawn to your channel because of your whimsical animals. I adore the sheep and birds. I'm not into photorealistic art though I admire the talent. About as real as I get is Paul Clark's style. Your painting turned out lovely. You did a great job with that type of paint. I've had a large set of Peerless sheets for about 20 years. I sometimes use them for craft type projects. I find dye based paints a little less pleasing to work with and then there's the light fast issue. Boy, do they fade quickly. My advice for you is to just do you! Do the art you enjoy and try not to be overly influenced by what others are doing on RUclips. Art is a passion endeavor and when it becomes just a job I think it is reflected in the output. Hope all is well with you and Tamsin.
I think I tend to prefer the abstract approach more than the realistic approach when it comes to watercolor. The medium just lends itself much better to a loose abstract piece. Very nice.
I love your painting. Any style, any format. I always learn something. And especially when I am feeling "stuck" I always watch one of your videos and quickly get "unstuck". So please don't change your style of painting.
I loved watching this because when you started out I had no idea what you were doing and I kept wondering where you were going. The process/ evolving of the painting was really fascinating to watch! It really showed me a) what a great, spontaneous artist you are, and b) how a beautiful painting can be built up from a good colour base. Thank you
Very nice autumn painting. You are so right about image overload. It leaves me stuck in a quandary and I don't proceed. It's good to know I'm not the only one who feels that.
Love those colors! You are so right about being overwhelmed by all the images out there. I think it really paralizes a lot of people, including myself from time to time.
I started telling myself last Fall, "You need to learn to love 'Fall' more!" I hate the Fall season - particularly the month of Semptember. My mother had the habit of moving A LOT. Which resulted in me being in 9 different schools from kindergarten to my senior year. My senior year was the only year I attended the school I graduated from. My point is that I probably need to try and paint a few more Fall watercolors this Fall - particularly Semtember. Thank you again, Diane, for doing this. I am a clad, hard-scale Spring person! Great buy suggestion! ❤❤❤
Yes...I get overwhelmed! Just yesterday I was going through that. I've been using art for therapy. Being overwhelmed and frozen doesn't help. What you've shown is so expressive and freeing. It's what I've been craving and nourishing to the soul. I also love coming away with something in one sitting. And that you even give yourself the freedom to say if something is 'rubbish' or not. I also love your whimsical paintings too. Love your channel. Am new to it. I am enjoying learning with you. Thank you! 💖
Dianne I just love your painting and approach to just playing with paints to see how the picture evolves into something beautiful or fun. Thank you for sharing what you do!
Beautiful painting. I would love to see more watercolour youtubers painting from life and how to set up still life and lighting and stuff. When I paint from a photo, I can't find the emotional attachment to help me care enough about the subject to really see it. But if it's the teapot Kens sister gave me from Tokyo, and a funny story about that mug, I already feel invested. But setting up the objects and drafting the sketch is hard to figure out. So, I haven't enjoyed scrolling through photos looking for something to paint. It seems to take time away from painting.
Yes I do get overwhelmed with too many images. I just want to put paint down and come up with what I see and feel. I love your videos and beautiful paintings Thank you Diane 😊 ❤
Hello Diane, nice to see your video. Thank you very much. I finally gave the money to the tree organization, but I donated to them directly because (1) I did not want to "save" my credit card with google and (2) I wanted to make it a monthly donation. Thank you very much for educating me about it. I also bought the "cork" version of Viviva paints, on your earlier recommendation. I haven't tried them out yet, but the people at the company are very sweet. I love dealing with small, friendly companies. I loved all of the "fall" paintings you created. And, of course, the Arthur, Zen and Lottie, what a treat! Hope you are having a good day. Hugs, Eve
I couldn’t agree with you more, Diane! There is way too much information out there online! I dropped off IF and FB, mainly because I was spending too much time just scrolling! And I have been obsessed with your bird doodles for my friends and their birthday! Everyone loves them. Keep up the great work- and go with your instincts!
Oh Ms. Diane, this is AMAZING!! I love your work, your videos, your instruction. I so enjoyed seeing those amazing dragonflies in your sketchbook. Thank you for being you and thank you for showing us how amazing these colors can be together. I'm not usually a warm color girl, but after seeing this and how beautiful they can be when put together effectively, I want to give this a go. ❤️🌹❤️
Love the intensity of these colors. There is just so much out there for us to view, but if you can just appreciate the art and not compare it to others, that is better. This is my opinion of course. I enjoy all of your work, and I think as long as you continue to love what you do, it will come across in a favorable way. Thank you for sharing your perspective and you gift.
Thanks for showing us a great way to play with color..I agree all the images we see can be overwhelming and keep us from releasing our own creativity..
Your fur babies are so cute! We have three orange cats who were born in our backyard. Their mother was killed when they were about 12 weeks and we adopted them all. Two and indoor and the other one is an outdoor guy who loves hunting lol! It is endlessly entertaining to us to have these three crazy brothers who just randomly appeared in our lives!
That’s a sweet story! Sorry about the poor mum who was killed but kudos to you for saving the boys. Our five are also a source of endless “fun” - each one a rescue, each one different!
Im so new to watercolor, you’re my instructor. I start and start and pause your videos and paint along w you. The whimsical ones I Love!! But I try whatever you post daily.
This is lovely! I do agree…we are inundated with images, music, content of every kind. I prefer to follow just a few folks who create content in my areas of interest (like you!) but the platform algorithms keep popping up others in my feed. And many are not even “real” people. I feel as if I’m being shouted at all the time…
I was not sure about this painting at first, but you've definitely captured fall (my favorite season and the colors that go with it). Since I live in Arizona, the leaves are not as you painted though we do get beautiful yellows nearly yearly. My street is filled with yellow Ash trees and many of them have crowns of orange and a titch of red near the tops. We have just a few Sugar Maples in our canyon going up the mountain and very few Oaks which make me feel cozy and loved (childhood memories in New York and New England). Actually, come to think of it, any forest makes me feel the same way, cozy and warm (even in winter cuz when I go home, I have a cup of tea or hot cocoa. You've captured the essence of Autumn and I'm glad it's coming soon though here it may remain hot till the end of October, ugh. Too much of any weather can be boring or even annoying. I, for one, would prefer to live on the East coast of New England where the seasons are defined. XOXOJANE
Thanks so much Jane, so glad you enjoyed it in the end! Not everyone’s cup of tea (or cocoa!) I know, but for me the freedom of painting loosely is everything - hope you enjoy capturing your version of the fall soon too - too much hot weather is exhausting, isn’t it xxx
I just finished watching the robin/Christmas tree video earlier today. I planned to use the idea to make a fall oak with robins, acorns, squirrels and who knows. I then saw this and had to watch. Love the colors and the comments.
Great tutorial, Diane! It was truly fascinating to me to follow your initial ‘blobs’ of apparently random placement yet watch as the scene jumped into focus. Seeing it matted and framed at the end was magical! Thank you! I agree with you on image overload from every aspect of life; almost pinpoints of distraction instead of focusing on appreciating the simple joy of identifying what brings calmness, tranquility, and a sense of belonging. Enjoyed today’s episode 😉 Thanks!
Thank you Diane! I really enjoyed this autumnal painting....you didn't even have a plan and it turned out just gorgeous and I love the vibrant Viva colors too. I agree...too many images can be debilitating...very overwhelming!
Loved how that turned out!!! It’s amazing how you can layout colors that form a beautiful forest scene. I am going to try it. Yes, I get caught spending time scrolling and then I have used up my time, that I could have been painting. I love the company you keep while you are painting. Very relaxed atmosphere.
Hi from Oregon! I must tell you how much I appreciate your style and honest endeavors in your artwork. I know what you mean about inundated with images and not knowing if they’re real or not. I suppose that’s why I watch you so I know you’re real and not just some AI trying to pass for real.
I happen to love your whimsical approach to art.
Me too!
I love seeing these art works develop. Very inspirational. I don't like the sound of the paint brush being rinsed out each time, it seems to break the calmness and enjoyment for me. Maybe the water container is too close.
I also love the doodling whimsical artwork. There is always something calming about paint on a canvas no matter what medium you use.
“Dare I say it?…A computer!” 😂
I enjoy hearing you talk as much as I love to watch you paint.
Your whimsical wonders are WONDERFUL. They generate happiness. Please continue to always do that.

Thanks for the glimpses of your sweet pets. Arthur is my favorite ❤️
You are so welcome!
The intense fall colors are divine. Your painting is lush and beautiful. Personally, I love the doodles but this is a welcome change. Please do both. ♥️♥️♥️
Love this,,very nice indeed. And love hearing your opinion on all things art related! Thanks so much!

I was drawn to your channel because of your whimsical animals. I adore the sheep and birds. I'm not into photorealistic art though I admire the talent. About as real as I get is Paul Clark's style.

Thanks so much for your kind and interesting comments! We are doing fine thanks ❤️
That turned out lovely. I am always amazed as at the start it never looks like it will be much of anything and then it all comes together in the end.
I am often equally amazed!❤️
I think I tend to prefer the abstract approach more than the realistic approach when it comes to watercolor. The medium just lends itself much better to a loose abstract piece. Very nice.
I agree with you. Way more relax and enjoyable 😊
I love your painting. Any style, any format. I always learn something. And especially when I am feeling "stuck" I always watch one of your videos and quickly get "unstuck". So please don't change your style of painting.
Thanks Anne and don’t worry, nothing’s going to change xxx
I absolutely love your autumn whimsical paintings, puts a smile on my face and I need that. Thank you for the happiness.
I'm so glad!❤️
Thank you Diane! I so much enjoy you sharing your paintings and your Fur Babies with us! What a cozy autumn feel! 😊❤
The first landscape with all of the Fall colors and the drawing on top of various trees in this video is one of my favorite paintings you've shown!
Thanks Sherry, I’ll be returning to that idea soon.
They're lovely ! The colours are stunning. Love all your different approaches . As a beginner I learn so much from you.....thanksx😊
This lets me think, Fall is around the corner. Lovely.
I loved watching this because when you started out I had no idea what you were doing and I kept wondering where you were going. The process/ evolving of the painting was really fascinating to watch!
It really showed me a) what a great, spontaneous artist you are, and b) how a beautiful painting can be built up from a good colour base.
Thank you
Love to see your pets. Watercolors look once they are matted and framed. It turned out lovely
Absolutely!!❤️
Beautiful autumn piece. Looks fabulous in the frame 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much 😊

❤❤❤
I had a similar childhood experience. A new school every year. Quite destabilising!
Beautiful colors! I like this approach, focusing more on colour and light than on form or details. Such cuties at the end! Thanks, Diane ❤
Loose and lovely!! Sooo sweet to see the fur babies!!
Thanks Diane!
Thank you! 💖
Thanks so much for your wonderful comment! So glad it’s helping you through the process, happy painting!
Dianne I just love your painting and approach to just playing with paints to see how the picture evolves into something beautiful or fun. Thank you for sharing what you do!
Love the colours, and the end result is lovely. I also ❤ your whimsical art, so inspiring, achievable and fun.
I'm in the mood for Fall already.
That’s a good point. Maybe I can think about some still lives for the winter. Good idea.
Lovely! I totally agree with you that it is easy to get Overwhelmed with all the images we have today.
Love it. What a quick and bright fall painting with no fuss. You always inspire me.
Thanks so much 😊
Yes I do get overwhelmed with too many images. I just want to put paint down and come up with what I see and feel. I love your videos and beautiful paintings Thank you Diane 😊 ❤
A beautiful riot of colour, Diane! Just Lovely! And fab to see your furry friends!
Love, Mel xx🍰🌻
Thanks so much 😊
I do get overwhelmed easily by all the doodles and mixed media. But I also love much of it, so I’ll take it in small doses.
Good plan! ❤️
Hugs,
Eve
I like the doodle paintings too. They are good for me ,less pressure and more freedom.i ❤this too. I wish I could paint though your eyes.
Yes you can get overwhelmed with images but then. I just come back to myself cheers Alison
Thank you so much!
Loved this, really brings your own imagination, to the forefront. The animals all sleeping together warmed my heart.
P.S. this is a beautiful Fall painting!! Thank you! 💕
Thank you! 😊 so much! It was fun!
I love your fun approach to painting! It's full of joy and that's important in today's divisive culture. Thank you for all you do!
You are so welcome!
Such beautiful page! I love how you let the shapes emerge. 💕
Your whimsical art was why I started watching your channel. It was so charming!💕
Thanks so much Kathy, and no worries, more coming soon!
Love this process ! You break down that which can be difficult to a simple and relaxing process.
Glad you liked it!
I totally agree! And thanks so very much ❤️
If only I were half as creative as you I'd be a happy bunny!
Thanks for showing us a great way to play with color..I agree all the images we see can be overwhelming and keep us from releasing our own creativity..
You are so welcome!
So nice to see an Autumn landscape! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I feel as if I’m being shouted at all the time…
What a nice result Diane! And so sweet to see your pets 😍
Thank you! 😊
You have such a pleasant studio! And such good company.
Oh how lovely! And the pets!😃
Thank you! 😊
I love your whimsical art
Sort of abstract trees. Love them. Love the colour.
I find so much peace painting along with you. Thanks so much 💜
I was not sure about this painting at first, but you've definitely captured fall (my favorite season and the colors that go with it).
Awesome work💟💖💖💟💝💟❤💟❤💟❤💞💖💞💖💞💖💞💖💞💖💞💖💞💖💞
You're a wonderful, intuitive painter, Diane!
Oh thank you!
Thank you Diane! I really enjoyed this autumnal painting....you didn't even have a plan and it turned out just gorgeous and I love the vibrant Viva colors too. I agree...too many images can be debilitating...very overwhelming!
Thank you so much!
I love the whimsical art work. It has helped me not be intimidated when I paint! Thank you. You are so very talented ❤️
Love your fur babies ❤
My goodness, that's some beautiful color! Love it!
Thank you so much!
How lovely. Great colors. I really like the loose watercolor look. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much!
Very interesting watching your idea come out - beautiful. Liz
Love seeing your room and animals🥰
Good painting 🖼 I loved it ! 😊. Yeah all animals they sleep to much I think. My cat sleeps a lot. Have a good day. 👍 JK FLORIDA USA 🇺🇸
I love that painting it’s seriously how I love to work.
Brilliant to hear that!
Hi from Oregon! I must tell you how much I appreciate your style and honest endeavors in your artwork. I know what you mean about inundated with images and not knowing if they’re real or not. I suppose that’s why I watch you so I know you’re real and not just some AI trying to pass for real.
Very nice autumnal piece. I really like the Vivia ink blue color you used for the sky.
That turned it very nice! Ha! My dog is sleeping behind me as i watch you too@
That is an awesome autumnal painting.... love love it! Thanks so much for sharing this piece
Thanks so much 😊
