The Full Toilet Restoration Process

- I have been restoring toilets this way since early 2018 so it's about time I show you how it's done. Everything needed to accomplish a full toilet restoration is shown in this video with the exception of a couple items. You may need something like a screwdriver to remove minerals from the trapway and siphon jet but I did not show that because this toilet did not have any mineral buildup.
I buy my tank parts from The Home Depot Pro website in bulk orders to save on shipping and I get my muriatic acid from Walmart.
Wow- what an amazingly simpler process than I’ve been using! Thanks so much for the wonderful time saving tips!🎉
This helped when I was getting the minerals of my toilet and adding a new toilet thanks for your help you're the best!🎉
You're welcome! I'm glad
OK this is cool toilet 🚽 but my f8rst toilet was an old American Standard Cadet and pressure assist cadet
So what toilet is this
@@TopphatClan2024This is an American Standard Plebe
Incredible work owen! Very proud of you!
Thanks!
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations ofc! :)
I think the non-glazed parts of the toilet body are where it was to rest while being fired. To prevent the glaze from fusing the clay, and the kiln together.
Yeah, also they don't need to bother glazing the inside or the bottom because nobody will see it when it's installed.

@@TransKidsMafia Well.... congratulations..... I guess...
I use some of these tricks as a house cleaner! Never seen that acid before that was pretty amazing. Toilets are my favorite part of cleaning ☺️
I really like cleaning toilets
This video is incredibly helpful! Thanks OCC for doing this video seeing that I myself could be restoring and collecting some old toilets too. This video is brilliant!
You're welcome!
I'm not even one-fifth through this video, and this is excellent!

EDIT: just finished the video. Great presentation!
Thanks a lot!
I've restored a few toilets before using Lysol Black Label Toilet bowl cleaner to clean up the tank and bowl as well as a scouring pad with Comet to scrub out the tank, & i know the hard work it takes to get a toilet looking like new again. I also replace any worn out parts or incorrect parts in the tank as well. In addition, I try to use older Fluidmaster 200A & 400A fill valves from the 1980s & 1990s when i can get them for older toilets from the 1950s-the 1980s. That being said, nice work!
Thanks a lot! It's cool that other people are restoring toilets too.
Great video! It’s cool to see the whole restoration process.
Thanks a lot! Hopefully this can be of some use to people.
Nice! The Plebe looks like it's new! Well done, Owan!
Thanks!
1983 plebe : thanks for giving me a bath
Owen: you're welcome
nice toliet was infomative and helpful at the same time
Thanks!
Looks brand new again
Ikr? Thanks!
This is an excellent video. I have bookmarked it to a new playlist called "Restorations" so I can refer to it again. Thank you for sharing your methods. I am impressed !!! More power to you, Owen!!
Thanks a lot! I wish I made this sooner but now seemed to be the perfect time since I had a horrible looking toilet and I wanted to install it. So far, the finished product has been working flawlessly aside from the chain disconnecting once.
This is a great video! If I ever get a toilet in the future, I will definetly use some of your techniques! Luckily the two toilets I have now didn't need much more than a wipe down, but I do remember the tank taking a long time to get clean on the Emblem.
Thanks!
whattttttttttttttttttttttt
Good jooooob...a learning experience for me. Though I can't help but think of using some acid through the tank hole to rid of minerals and rust inside the rinse holes and rinse out with water. But that's just me thinking here. I can be wrong on that.
Thanks! The rim rarely ever gets buildup though.
I have a toilet where a person used to let the toilet sit without flushing or constantly clog it up. His medication made his stuff like tar at times. There was possibly blood in the toilet. I got it was clean as possible with cleaning vinegar, but I will try this acid
Yikes, I hope he is ok.
AMAZING!!! I must going buy it from you because you do awesome job!!!
Thanks!! I am saving one for you.
You're welcome and thank you... I noticed you have another one more 1983 AS 4083 tank?

Ikr!
You know how some toilets have like a special anti-microbial glaze or some type of glaze? Doesn't muriatic acid eat away at that glaze?
Excellent video btw. Very informative and helpful. Thanks.
Acid doesn't damage vitreous china.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations Good to know. I've got some hardwater stains in my toilet I need to get out.
Awesome job! I think my problem is that I've never used the acid correctly. I'll try using a scrubby thing like what you did. And awesome tips for removing the old caulk off the base, because I've had a lot of trouble with that. I'm working on restoring my 1980 Wellworth to install in my mom's bathroom. It's pretty clean so far but there's a bunch of finishing touches that I've been struggling with.
Is it possible to send me pictures of the stuff you're having trouble with?
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations Yeah I probably could later today. Is there anywhere I could send them?
@@plumbingstuffinoregon2471 Do you have Discord or Google Chat?
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations Yeah I have discord
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations I might have Google chat too but I've never used it
What about the mineral build up inside the toilet rim? I know you cleaned the holes, but the whole pathway behind there can get build up and have narrowed parts. What do you do for that?
I use part of a coat hanger to remove that but it is a rare occurrence so I didn't think to show it.
Great video
Thanks!
Amazing toilet! Also.. #Obeytheplebe
EDIT: If I get a toilet, I’ll use your techniques!
Thanks!
Normal water cleans anything bro
Not this stuff
Awesome video!!! What was the very first toilet you got for your collection?
Thanks! My first toilet was a 1988 Kilgore with a 2003 RAK tank I believe.
Before you restored it, it looked like a kohler 🤣🤣🤣
Something tells me you found a pretty bad looking Kohler
Amazing toilet and I got 3 musquitobops on my leg. Ouchhhhh
I hate mosquitoes
Did you save the old toilet parts
Most of them
AwesoMe!
Thanks!
Have you heard of anyone using any sort of thin bodied adhesive to use as a crack filler for porcelain?
I have a crack on the inside of my vintage toilet tank. The original in place green toilet, with matching sink and tub.(!) On one hand, I can go buy a new toilet. But I really want to take every chance I can to not just throw it in the landfill.
There's probably a filler you can use, I think they make some sort of paste for repairing china.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations Thank you for the reply - all three of them!
@@misssmith7225 No problem!
2 tolet at a time plsss and shot out
I've done 3 at a time before!
I wished people went for this approach than just buying a generic 1.28 gpf toilet that would often get clogged and waste water too... But I guess people want 'sleekiness' now
And also, you guys should also be wearing a mask and goggles due to muriatic acid also has fumes and I would try to be wearing some coveralls and closed shoes while working.
I agree. I am very careful with the acid and I keep water nearby in case of possible spills.
Hi

Whelp good thing I kept the broken Kilgore lid piece XD

About when I was younger That other plebe, I was so sad that I can't let it go. Also I felt confused what the heck is this toilet that has a mouth in the front center of the toilet and a few times I've seen it I said it in my head crane hymount sorry if I spelled it wrong.
Flowing like a river in the end
Little tip for the wax, pour just a little bit of hot water over it and it’ll come right off. Fantastic otherwise
I've done that before but the stains are still there and it's a huge pain to get the wax all the way off. Plus nobody will see or interact with it after it's installed so I just clean it the best I can with a scraper.
@@OCC_Plumbing_and_Restorations have you tried sand paper with bar keepers friend? I’ve always been successful with that.
