@spastictuesdays340generally speaking without thinking I will say inches, feet, yards, etc. For anything above an inch but use millimeters and centimeters for anything smaller than an inch when gauging lengths. No idea when I started doing that I just kinda did at some point. When properly measuring something I just use whatever measurements I see in the tape that is closest to the nearest foot or meter marker.
I totally agree with the sentiment that we are getting fleeced by military contractors at all times. But for a more realistic reference, Oshkosh can make a much more robust tactical truck than this for less than a quarter mil each. I have no doubt they can make a smaller truck with bigger tires for less than that.
Dont forget the service anywhere plan that includes a blackhawk helicopter for the contractor, and free maintenance as well as a years worth of fuel per day.
When are we going to see a colab with you guys ? Each buy a cheap car to fix up Both have a budget to fix/mod/upgrade their car Both teams compete in challenges
@17:00 missed an opportunity for a asymmetric race. Like go to that spot over there, the Sherpa goes in a straight line but slow, golf takes a longer route but faster
The guy running this channel isn't knowledgeable when it comes to cars, he might know a little bit about mechanical engineering but this dude says a rav 4 is the best project car you can buy, tells you a lot about the guy and how much he knows about cars
@JerseyOram we watch Alex and Andy because of themselves, not because they know every little thing about every car. Concerning some of the fuck ups they did it is quite obvious. They are not the most expert at all this stuff. And yet everybody who has cars similar to theirs gets to learn.
The crossover is crazy. And it's always when you least expect it. Been subscribed to TSTN for a while now and didn't think these guys would know each other!
Honestly I kinda expected that. Alex being all excited to not even have to use second gear just for him to slam the brakes because water and goes "Ooohh".
A vehicle that gives you the vibes of being in your childhood invincible secret fort, that you never have to leave. Can do all the maintenance from inside and build a little house in the back. Pretty cool machine.
I’m pretty sure there is no speedometer because the tire diameter is variable, since the same rpm at different tire diameters obviously produces different speeds
Shouldn't be that hard to do a few measurements to get a curve for converting PSI into diameter. It's more like it just doesn't really matter. I doubt stuff tanks etc. have speedos either, or if some do and some don't, tank drivers probably couldn't care less.
Had an Uber driver in Hawaii who owns one of these and uses it for his primary business back in the States as a nature photographer in Alaska. I believe he also does tours as well in his Sherp. It was clear he absolutely loved it, and was stoked to have someone in his Uber who knew what it was. I think Matt Farah was in one a few years back, first time they popped on my radar.
Used these for troop transport in Ukraine, the thing just pulled along where tracked vehicles (m113) got stuck! Driver lived in it with decent comfort, too
Hey guys, love your Channel. Could you maybe add some metric Units when you talk about the size of something? As a european I’m Not really familiar with the Us system 😂
There aren't many of these in Canada. I suspect anyone familiar with the story till now saw the thumbnail and immediately knew even if they couldn't see the logo that this was story till now's Sherp
okay, I do like cars somewhat but wasn't sure if following you on this new channel would be worth it. but if you guys keep doing stuff like THIS?! I'm absolutely here for it
Not the collab I expected, but its the collab I wanted. I love everything that is happining here. more TSTN and Zip Tie Tuning Please? big ups to both channels. keep it up!
There's a guy in northern Minnesota here that has like 6 of those things. He rents them out. His kid has a RUclips channel too. I just don't remember the name.
Alex is that one geek nerd friend, whom you will not want to bait into a dare, drinking, driving and reviewing... literally a All in or Nothing and go home
This is the kind of thing Top Gear would race, but the car would have to go around a lot of stuff, or hop a ferry to make it across, and this big thing would just roll over everything.
Differential steering is used in a lot of military vehicles I drove in a warrior personnel carrier years back which was the same. It's required for tracked vehicles because they can't steer their tracks and the advantage on tyred vehicles is they can obviously do a 360 on the spot.
I'd say "hey, a boat that doesn't care about ice, it will just drive up on it if it gets thick enough" but...the forward/back tilt is kind of crazy how much it seems like it will just fall over on it's front or rear with any steep climb/drop.
Saw our power company was towing one of these on a flat bed. In NH we have power transmission towers in and over many shallow glacial lakes. Just another tool in the belt when the lake is too deep for cribbing.
Been following TSTN since the start (I'm a Jeeper) yet I aslo am a religious LMG fan and remember Alex's first apperance. Super cool seeing this collab.
Theres a canadian made version made in Quebec, its called the fat truck. They've even got an articulated 8x8, and they can spin on the spot by making one side spin backwards.
D6 cats are kind of the same. You pull each lever/drive half way and it disengages the clutch to one side and if you pull it more it brakes that said side
huge tires, 3cyl turbo diesel, steering with differential brakes, "there are brakes but please just use the clutch" this thing is just 2 backs of some soviet tractors welded together + a custom cab + automatic tire pumping system from an Ural the only thing different is that the transmission seems smoother than anything produced east of the iron curtain
"You didn't off-road hard enough!" Some mud and a literal lake, but no inclines or boulders, so, yeah, I'mma say so, would have loved to see it tackle the usual haunts for 4x4s. All in good fun, mind you, it's a nice vid. Would have also expected a battery box with an IP68 on the thing.
Those sherps are no joke the ideal. If you want a fun project vehicle that operates along the same principles check out those old amphibious 6 wheeler ATV's. A bathtub with wheels chain powered on each side individually, and two levers to control forward, neutral brake on each side. Our family had one and it was insanely capable, far beyond just going in water. I could drive over stone walls, lay down small trees I couldn't shoulder aside and just generally bully it through anything. A regular ATV or four wheeler is way better for driving on a trail or across a field, but those 6 wheelers are actually capable of trailblazing.
The pov driving looks like inside a mecha's cockpit. This vehicle IS a smile generator, after you mentioned it I noticed I was smiling the whole time you where driving. Crazy vehicle
This is absolutely wild! I genuinely feel like it’s more a 4 legged mech than a truck/utility vehicle the way it’s controlled. So cool and absolutely looks like a blast.
I can think of a few upgrades I would do. 1) self-recovery winch, 2) front bumper in the shape of a bow plane (angled to break waves in water), 3) trailer hitch
If you have contacts at Mercedes, try to talk them into letting you try out a Unimog. It's their multi-purpose offroad capable chassis. There is also tons of different things people do with it
rode around in one of these doing pipeline integrity surveys in northern alberta, a very impressive machine until you hop out and figure out how well you were floating on the snow
To be fair, for what you're getting, quite literally a house on wheels that can pull vehicles up to 2.3 tons out of tough spots, carry over 1 ton, swim oceans, climb hills, and just cruise along like something straight out of Star Wars. I don't think it's that badly priced tbh. I mean, with an engine that can handle a 30 degree incline, going over sand, rocks, snow, and marsh... Well, not even the coolest fastest super car can do that. Not from a sitting start at least. Plus it seems there is plenty of room, and opportunity to upgrade it to be far better, and far more reliable than any modern SUV. Honestly if it's this vs boat, I am going for this... Just maybe uh, with a few mods for faster travels on the sea. 👀
@kkon5ti The more I look at it, the more you're right. The hull is the wrong shape, it doesn't extend far enough down. The cabin is not capable of withstanding the forces of extreme waters slamming against it, the tires being the only thing providing buoyancy are... Problematic. Especially with how low they sit in the water. To do it right, you'd basically have to design a carrier that it could dock with in the water, which adds complexity with sealing etc, especially if any dirt is between the sherp and the seal, and reinforce the hull substantially. At that point, you're basically making a ferry for the sherp, and it's just an atv that can go wherever away from the rough ocean waters. Edit: "The Shuttle" is $375,000 from them. It can carry 2 sherps, or 1 sherp with a trailer on the back.
This is explicitly designed for search and rescue operations in the interesting terrain of Ukraine where mud season is something they experienced twice a year.
Get 20% off on the Nomad eSIM App at www.getnomad.app/shop?... with code ZIPTIE
Love the content man. FYI The promo code doesn’t work. Says it’s expired.
Promo code doesn’t work, says it expired
I tried ZIPTIE20 and that did not work either
Typically Canadian. It's a bit above 4m long and 10 feet high. 🍁
Came here to say exactly that, and as a Canadian, I understood it perfectly 😅
As a Canadian, I didn't even notice, just immediately understood
So, essentially, it’s a square. 👍
I'm dying laughing That's the most Canadian thing to say for sure
Gotta help the yanks feel included
4 METERS long and 10 FEET wide. My brain hurts.
As a Canadian, I processed that with no complaints
@MetelAdict Same but as a Scotsman.
Must be a Commonwealth thing because I am Jamaican and I understood it completely
@William_Kyle-Yuki_Yuuki Yep, we're not picky. I'll go with furlongs per fortnight in a pinch.
@spastictuesdays340generally speaking without thinking I will say inches, feet, yards, etc. For anything above an inch but use millimeters and centimeters for anything smaller than an inch when gauging lengths. This was a fun day! Thanks gents!
Hey Shaun! the world just keeps getting smaller, i know Alex... but i also know Bruce, Denny and Ryan.
is this you? ruclips.net/video/PvY3E0e8Cx0/video.html
You got my sub 👍 I’m excited to see what modifications are done to this beast!
Need to speedrun your channel. This thing looks epic!
I love how its somehow both tiny and giant at the same time.
Agreed, it really breaks the brain.
That's what she said.
Yeah, try getting in an old Hummer, same thing
back when Kherson got flooded you could see these things rescuing people on the news
Kherson mentioned 😢😢
Ukrainian-made SHERP, yes
"You can go through that puddle!" The puddle in question is a freaking pond!
If a U.S. military contractor had built this, it would have cost $173 million and included DRMs.
I totally agree with the sentiment that we are getting fleeced by military contractors at all times. But for a more realistic reference, Oshkosh can make a much more robust tactical truck than this for less than a quarter mil each. I have no doubt they can make a smaller truck with bigger tires for less than that.
And it will also behave as a boat on the water for that money? I absolutely don't believe that.
Dont forget the service anywhere plan that includes a blackhawk helicopter for the contractor, and free maintenance as well as a years worth of fuel per day.
@marijnlokay but Oshkosh mraps are clearly well priced, otherwise they wouldn't be absolutely everywhere in the world
There is a lot of FWAC, cybersecurity, supply chain management and fair competition compliance involved in operating in the US defense industrial base
forget a Porsche, need this pls
When are we going to see a colab with you guys ?
Each buy a cheap car to fix up
Both have a budget to fix/mod/upgrade their car
Both teams compete in challenges
Like a war, on vehicles that you got cheap... like from the scrapyard. If only there was a good name for that kind of series...
@clintmash245Junkyard wars?
(Legally distinct name)
@stevenjames7082: Donut media already did that with their Nissan 350Z (at least, I’m pretty sure it was 350Z… if not, I apologize).
@17:00 missed an opportunity for a asymmetric race. Like go to that spot over there, the Sherpa goes in a straight line but slow, golf takes a longer route but faster

@JerseyOramHey everyone look! We have an expert over here! Thanks for sharing your knowledge instead of just saying how you're smarter
@JerseyOram we watch Alex and Andy because of themselves, not because they know every little thing about every car. Concerning some of the fuck ups they did it is quite obvious. They are not the most expert at all this stuff. And yet everybody who has cars similar to theirs gets to learn.
sounds like an old Top Gear race!
Should have done a top gear style race from one side of the lake to the other, the VW would have to go around and the Sherp could go across the water.
The crossover is crazy. And it's always when you least expect it. Been subscribed to TSTN for a while now and didn't think these guys would know each other!
4m meters long, 10 feet high. Mixing units like a true Canadian.
It's just ingrained in us that for all practical uses, yardsticks and metre sticks are roughly the same
Every nation does it, just look at the measurements on your car's tires.
@johnt.848 US and UK established standards are in barrel or inch. Not much else.
usa need driglords do run contry. overnight all using metric
12:29 100 owners of stock jeep cherokees just said "my jeep can do that"
Missed opportunity to have the drag race go into the water
Honestly I kinda expected that. Alex being all excited to not even have to use second gear just for him to slam the brakes because water and goes "Ooohh".
@D3ntNLExactly!
A vehicle that gives you the vibes of being in your childhood invincible secret fort, that you never have to leave. Can do all the maintenance from inside and build a little house in the back. Pretty cool machine.

@rustler08 Is a terrible way to measure speed.
Finally a vehicle that can keep up with the allmighty Unimog!
Эти вездеходы выпускаются уже лет 10. Думаю их где-то 4 тыс уже выпустили.

16:14 Should have had a body of water between the start and finish that the gti would have had to go around to make it a fair race 😂
There aren't many of these in Canada. I suspect anyone familiar with the story till now saw the thumbnail and immediately knew even if they couldn't see the logo that this was story till now's Sherp
okay, I do like cars somewhat but wasn't sure if following you on this new channel would be worth it.

TSTN collab? No freaking way!
Not the collab I expected, but its the collab I wanted. I love everything that is happining here. more TSTN and Zip Tie Tuning Please? big ups to both channels. keep it up!

Wasn't expecting this collab, but I guess you're both in BC so why not, there's overlap and it's awesome. I love it. More made in Canada content.
Dude in jeeps who carry ducks in their purses are 100% the kind of people to comment that you didnt do real off-roading
A crossover I never expected! Well done! Should get together with Ryan from Fortnine if you ever do a motorcycle episode!
Just checking in. Already over 500k subs and counting. That’s really awesome. 👏
oh god I can't stop being afraid for the poor camera mounted at the front window
Alex and Andy are like the new Top Gear. You guys should do your own car version of Scrapyard wars, I think that would be a banger for views
Differential steering is used in a lot of military vehicles I drove in a warrior personnel carrier years back which was the same. It's required for tracked vehicles because they can't steer their tracks and the advantage on tyred vehicles is they can obviously do a 360 on the spot.
Oh my god, what a god-tier collab! Love the direction of the content :)
YESSS. TSTN ZTT COLLAB. i knew that sherp as soon as i saw onx offroad on the side 😂
I'd say "hey, a boat that doesn't care about ice, it will just drive up on it if it gets thick enough" but...the forward/back tilt is kind of crazy how much it seems like it will just fall over on it's front or rear with any steep climb/drop.

WHOA no way they got the GTA V Rune Zhaba made into real life!!!
(yes I know it's the other way around)
Awesome video and the dude from TSTN seems great. Subbed to his channel and excited to check it out.
i follow tstn and my brain broke a little bit when i saw the thumbnail lol
Hey look, it's that thing from GTA 5!
Theres a canadian made version made in Quebec, its called the fat truck. They've even got an articulated 8x8, and they can spin on the spot by making one side spin backwards.
2:00 comparing this to the golf is so ridiculous i love it
You didn’t even go into any swamps? If I wanted to see an amphibious ATV I’d have just gone and watched an Argo review.
I am here for those collabs! Two of my favorite creators 🎉
I'm so glad you got the opportunity to play with one of these giant trucks that must be a dream come true
Thanks! I like the attention to the details.
Finally a car designed for moms to take their kids to soccer practice
Firefighters have those in Poland as they are incredibly useful in all water-related rescue actions.
Most beautiful set I've ever seen for a car review. You guys are killing It
A story till now cross over is insane! Wicked man
You came to San Diego and didn't tell me!
i think Heavy D has used this type of vehicle to do a rescue before. Love the things I think all EMS that deal with woods and lakes should have one!
D6 cats are kind of the same. You pull each lever/drive half way and it disengages the clutch to one side and if you pull it more it brakes that said side
This feels like a Top Gear film, keep it up!
As soon as Zip Ties started this was a colab I had hoped for. Awesome to see.
This is now peak Top Gear.
Thank you for leaving LMG, this content is way better, higher quality
huge tires, 3cyl turbo diesel, steering with differential brakes, "there are brakes but please just use the clutch"
this thing is just 2 backs of some soviet tractors welded together + a custom cab + automatic tire pumping system from an Ural
the only thing different is that the transmission seems smoother than anything produced east of the iron curtain
what i like about this vehicle is after taking a muddy road you can just drive over the lake to clean it off :D
I love it when "normal" car guys try out wild vehicles like this!
You guys are slowly but surely creating one of the absolute best car channels on this platform.
Those sherps are no joke the ideal. If you want a fun project vehicle that operates along the same principles check out those old amphibious 6 wheeler ATV's. That gear knob is a really good indicator of having a BMW powertrain, even when an inline 6 Turbo Diesel is clear enough ;-)
AMAZING VIDEO! Love this type of collab!
Wow, we got Sherp on ZTT before the CANADIANs Fat Truck, Swamp Rider, or Sasquatch.
This is absolutely wild! I genuinely feel like it’s more a 4 legged mech than a truck/utility vehicle the way it’s controlled. So cool and absolutely looks like a blast.
What’s a collab!! I love both channels
Not gonna lie.. did mot see that collab coming.
The world's best four wheel driving channel.
You should try out the Fat Truck. Very similar, but made in Canada!
@1:52 so nice of you to bring a VW Golf for scale. 🤣
When the tires are 80% of the vehicle. You are applying a first principles approach. lol. Well done. This vehicle is also available in BeamNG btw.
First saw one of these on Rich Rebuilds years ago, awesome to see the Sherp pop up again. TSTN earned a sub!
I can think of a few upgrades I would do. 1) self-recovery winch, 2) front bumper in the shape of a bow plane (angled to break waves in water), 3) trailer hitch
God damn, this channel is good!
16:27 most exciting drag race I’ve seen all winter 😂
I seen that and thought oh no more AI slop, how wrong I was ! Brilliant stuff guys
The Sherp!!! That's so cool you got access to one. These things are so rare
That sounds like a really good deal
This was awesome! Ive never seen anything like it. I just got a 2008 a lifted 4 runner and cant wait to get it off roading
Seen this thing before, pretty sure Parker from Gold Rush has one of those.
Crazy timing I saw one of these in person for the first time today while ice fishing on a random lake in alberta. What a machine
16:59 you should've check which car cross the lake faster
If you have contacts at Mercedes, try to talk them into letting you try out a Unimog. It's their multi-purpose offroad capable chassis. There is also tons of different things people do with it
Holy shit, that thing is amazing.
rode around in one of these doing pipeline integrity surveys in northern alberta, a very impressive machine until you hop out and figure out how well you were floating on the snow
I don't know why but that GTI with lift kit and those big tires looks more like Polo than Golf
Awesome collab!
I saw the thumbnail and thought: just another sherp video then i saw it was zip tie tuning and immediately click

It goes calm shores, rivers and lakes, not yet oceans. But I agree with the sentiment
