Both the backronym META and the prefix "meta" (prevailing state of a thing) are used to indicate different things. This isn't directed at the Helldivers related discussion of META specifically, but I think it's important to note that one doesn't preclude the other. They are separate and different terms that compliment one another. "Meta" is not always META, but you could argue that META is always meta. It's kinda like how laxative isn't always laxative.
Yeah, i thought it was odd that none of them after 57:50 knew after that meta is a word by itself and the acronym came later. I thought Colin would know this since he spent so much time as a writer
I am absolutely dying on the hill that you were thinking of "laxative." You will not convince me otherwise. I'm as steadfast about this as I have been about anything.
Yeah like I'm not invested in the same way that person who wrote the email in is but... yeah laxative gate is real. Purely because they brought up diuretic before laxative as a guess.
I think the issue with sweet baby is how much power they can have yet have no connection to real gaming, Anita Sarkessian was allowed to speak to UN and was invited on the Colbert show. this is a woman who said enjoying "fallout" games was problematic because of the violence and fallout shelter was about impregnating women... ?!

It's about grifting. Most of the people on this Gamergate 2.0 is with non-gamers, which IGN among others pushed this with Hogwarts Legacy. It's mostly dumb drama like Gamergate was.
Man I used to get really bummed out when Greg and some of the other Kinds Funny members would talk about their expanded vision for the company. It did seem like there were these grandiose visions being laid out at times that simply didn't jive with that original feel of Podcast Beyond and all that. Glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. Sad to see Rooster Teeth go under tbh
Chris is forever the realist gamer. Having those “I just dont feel like gaming” is the most gamer thing ever. I think just the older we get, we all go through that, just gotta eventually find that game that pulls us back. Keep it up fellas, all been killing it.
Word. There are definitely stretches when I realize I am reading/listening about videogames way more than I am actually playing them. I am kind of in one of those cycles right now. TotK was the last one I really got lost in.
I feel like the guys missed the point with the right in about the chef friend. Their argument isn't that PlayStation games are better than the other games that are available on PlayStation, the argument was that they just like them more, so they feel their absence. It's not that Grandma's macaroni and cheese is the best thing in the world, but you love it and it is special to you As somebody who really did not vibe with horizon or Ghost of Tsushima, but really loved kill zone and infamous, I definitely understand their argument. I really miss the days when I had sucker Punch and gorilla games to look forward to, but now they're not making my favorite meal anymore It's not that those meals are not of high quality, they're just not the meals I want to eat
I liked Returnal as much as a lot of PS3 era exclusives. I didn't vibe with Ghost Of Tsushima's combat. Bit bored of Arkham clones and adjacent stuff like GOT - it's way too long for how much depth is there. Didn't really like Second Son that much either (they forgot that inFamous is also about climbing/parkour for blast shards and having to put some effort into getting from A to B). *So it's been over a decade since I really liked a SuckerPunch game.* 90% chance I won't buy their next. I do like the Horizon games because the combat and enemy variety is good although the exploration could still be improved and the dialogue can be a bit bland (Sylens' dialogue was good though). *Sony investing in second party stuff that doesn't cost $100m-$300m is a good thing.* That's how you inject PS2/PS3 (2007-2010) variety and help even maybe get some new PlayStation studios. Insomniac were second party for a long time. I would like if they had loads of second party projects. The aversion to second party games ("they don't count") is so dumb. *Helldivers 2, Rise Of The Ronin and Stellar Blade feels so much like the projects old Sony could approve before the studios and budgets got too big.*
It's funny hearing them say that when Tom is really the more successful one with his side projects. I always thought he was the more popular one. I prefer Mark too, there are just not a ton of bass heavy lead singers in the modern era. +44 slaps@@hanes2
I don't care if it's a joke or not at this point. But Colin's attitude over the laxative situation is bullshit. 3 people couldn't figure out the word for medicine that makes you poop, and you tell the audience that we're the dumb ones? It's actually pathetic how much you can't stand being wrong
I mostly dont agree with Colin's politics, but I do appreciate that he doesnt seem malicious in his disagreement with others politics, and I see somewhat of a middle ground where we meet. I say this as someone who is definitely not left leaning socially, but could be perceived as "left leaning" on financial matters
Damn you’re the opposite of most. I tend to lean left in both regards but I’m curious about what your stances are socially? I’m an LSM patron so we’re both part of the same community.
@@user-dj9iu2et3r Thanks. Even though I don't lean left, I do feel in good company when someone is, you all tend to be genuine, that's something that I can't say about the right becuase they are scared to death of some boogeyman they've created in their minds. But to answer your question, my stance socially is that unforced segregation is completely fine, better even. And when I say unforced, I mean unforced, no laws no violence. And when I say segregation I mean it, it could be in terms of anything: ethnicity, religion, gender, etc. As an example, I don't see the problem with white ppl wanting to keep their neighborhood white, but I do think that should be announced for any given neighborhood that has a majority that has this sentiment. Unfortunately, we live in a world that wants to silence people. I agree with rejecting hatred, but not silencing hatred. I do want to add, that a group of people wanting to segregate isn't necessarily hatred of others although I will readily admit it tends to be many times. The way I see it, if a neighborhood is advertised as "for whites", without any derogatory messaging towards others; that's actually safer for non-whites. Who would want to move there? They are out in the open with their desires. Only a moron would still move there. Idk if you live in the U.S., but even now you have many neighborhoods that are majority Mexican with a mix of recently immigranted people and 1st generation Americans. Many of their shops and establishments tend to be in Spanish. It naturally follows that most non-Latino people don't have a desire to move into these areas, and that's better for the people in those neighborhoods. Everyone should have the right to have enclaves and look out for whoever they consider to kin. Again, without violence, and without laws prohibiting movement from others. Now, I'm not an idiot, in a properly functioning country, there are many scenarios where people absolutely cannot and should not segregate; those are the instances where common sense and multiculturalism have to come into play. Work places is a prime example of what I mean by this. Everyone still has to work cooperatively in trade and economics, and employment. So, I'm no advocate of hate at all. I'm just an advocate of people being with the ppl they want to be with, that includes multiculturalists who want to be together.
35:34 - this email was COOKING. i believe they weren't thinking of the word laxative, but its insulting to us that they didn't ever mention "laxative" while looking for the other word. Also, its been weeks and they still haven't found the word "digestive"
The thing about Roosterteeth is that under Burnie they were growing profit wise constantly(partially due to the rise of RUclips at the time). Selling was the death of them. You can't take a company out of the hands of someone who fundamentally helped shape the online entertainment space to a group of people who were trained in traditional media and expect them to handle things. Burnie was Roosterteeth creatively and business wise and he doesn't get the credit he deserves very often with where online content is today.

Hey Dustin, not sure if you have the same monitor I have (LG 48gq900-b) But few monitors at that size that are LG and OLED. Anyways, if so there is actually an ultrawide setting under the “Game Adjust” menu that allows you to switch to 3840x1600 & even 3840x1080p. Pretty great option as the black bars on the OLED aren’t an issue and 48” is already massive as a monitor (for me) so I don’t mind swapping to ultrawide if I want better performance or higher FOV

Honestly, I'm right there with Dustin. CHADLEY is obnoxious. Hated him in Remake, hate him even more in Rebirth. Literally one of the worst aspects of this game. LET'S BURY HIM!
I think the majority of the people complaining about Sweet Baby already know that they aren't the only one and that the industry trends towards that direction. I think they want to make the idea of using a woke consultancy company too volatile, and by extension, making woke too volatile in general. Sweet Baby was just a convenient means to that end, as unfortunate as it is for Sweet Baby. Edit: Also, 13 Sentinels is incredible, underpants and all!
There's a game on steam called Colony Ship that is basically the setting they're talking about around 43:05 I know Colin doesn't like CRPGs but for anyone who does it's lower budget but very good.
2:59:14 So I do think there is a conversation to be had about the intentions behind some of the content in these games. Whether or not Sweet Baby inc is directly the cause is undetermined. I think there’s a wider discussion to be had about companies like Blackrock, their links to publishers and their discourse in the past about cutting funding when DEI isn’t met.
They did win though. They just haven't realized the word they've been searching for is "Probiotic". NOT Laxative, NOT Diuretic, and NOT Prophylactic. ITS A PROBIOTIC lol
Suicide Squad really blew SBI up. We don't even know what they specifically work on in games to just blame them for bad writing. The blame should be more on the developers who hire them for wrong reasons.
It's all drama that IGN pushed on Hogwarts Legacy then failed. IGN helped create the problem because they helped create the WB policy as no free release copies, which there was no mention of MK1 yet Suicide Squade was an issue. IGN saw a chance and went for it, which they grifted a lot of people then grifters popped up. This company has no real power outside of the Indie scene. Every AA/AAA just takes the money and run since the "paid" content doesn't even need to pop up in the final product as long as credit is given. It's a nothing burger like most of the video game controversies.
@@ANGELOFDARKificationIt's a WB policy not to give out free copies, which to give out codes and discs are up to the developer and/or publisher. The policy was made because of outlets trying to click-bait with Hogwarts Legacy, which some people wanted to try to cancel said game and get a free copy out of it. MK1 was the 1st game to have the policy, which it was next-gen only and sold around 3 million copies last year. The irony on sales is that the Suicude Squad has taken the 3rd place spot under the NPD for January and February. All of this information is very accessible but some people don't want to do the legwork whether it's a personality or a random person.
@@chris9206 I think this WB policy even goes back further to maybe a decade ago. Knightwing, a youtuber who specialises in Batman Arkham and DC games, said WB were always a pain in the ass to get review codes for. While this podcast has shed a light on how dumb SBI can be, publishers and developers should get way more hate directed towards them than SBI for the stories.
@@ANGELOFDARKification Actually the policy just started with MK1. Everyone isn't guaranteed a free copy while outlets like IGN, Polygon, and Kotaku were guaranteed free copies for just about every game out until the last couple years. WB isn't the only one that's being restrictive especially when Kotaku and Polygon lost Nintendo access for saying racist things about Nintendo directed towards Tears of the Kingdom coverage. If you want to cause Internet drama then it's pretty easy to lose access. Most of the lost access is stupid shit, which Colin's lost access isn't from something stupid that he said or did. What light? All this stuff is pure BS. The drama is all about IGN wanting to have cake and eat it, too. IGN tried to cancel Hogwarts Legacy earlier on then "changed" their minds when fans and gamers pushed back. Literally what they did towards Hogwarts Legacy is a domino effect on WB creating a new policy. If there was an actual issue then why wasn't MK1 attacked? There was literally no peep about MK1. If this powerless company was a "problem" then why did Baldur's Gate 3 and Spider-Man 2 sell huge? Why did Baldur's Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 get a lot of awards? It's all selective outrage on the Internet and it's mostly from non-gamers not gamers.

Im totally (spies naw xd) with PS having games come sooner to PC, but as PS5 owner why do i have to pay for PS+ to get online meanwhile PC player just spend $40 on Helldivers
I think the thing is they don't need power... they're have friends. The whole industry is a cesspool of these friends at these studios who give them power. Their power comes from HR, which has TONS of power. This is all not to mention the ESG money and funding studios receive for dealing with these people.
It's just the Internet being dramatic especially when AA/AAA studios can run away with the money and get no punishment. Nothing more, nothing less. Let the gamers speak not the non-gamers pushing their own agendas. If this was an issue Japan wouldn't be the powerhouse they are especially Kojima as he's very woke not "woke".
Sweet Baby Inc: they have quite some laverage. We have seen single people be an enormous influence to the industry. The UN, the WHO, universities, billion dollar companies around the world bow in fear and try to pander to this vocal minority. And the journalists are not much better: I remember the reviews of Days Gone, complaining about the protagonist being a white man. They are a DEI consultency. And they have substential sway. The games they touch become noticably worse. And Ragnarok is not bad because "black girl". The writing was a far cry from 2018. And how they handled every female character and their relation to male characters - it is see through clear how they helped effing it up.
They even made Freyas boar turn into a black man. It was bizarre dude, and im swedish. Why would the legendary boar "hildisvini" become a black man? so now he was just a black man in disguise and ofc, he and thors wife seem to flirt at the ending- at some point it becomes too much. Valhalla was a shitty fishing village as well, it was a bad representation of our viking religion. And Ragnarök was the smallest battle imaginable for a "world ending" fight. They cut the budget at some parts, we could tell.
@@quezcatol I especially despised Freyas Girl-Boss-ification (abrasive, standoffish, unfriendly, haughty, a superiour figher to Kratos (because of course)). But honestly, I never considered the game from a swedish / scandinavian perspective. For all the talk against cultural appropriation, you would think that they would embrace this rich herritage and leave it as untouched as entertainment dictates. But since this is about white culture, I guess it is fine. This we can alter to our hearts content. White people don't even have culture, right? Their agenda is so see through clear. And I have never in my life found a person who is into that nonsense and plays those games at the same time.
If they didn't have any power they wouldn't be influencing some of the most expensive 1st party games like God Of War and Spider-Man. DEI is evil from the start and on top of that groups like Sweet Baby Inc are being funded by some of the wealthiest firms like Blackrock and Vanguard. Chris is either incredibly naive or lying because he agrees with the agenda.
Who actually complained that Deacon was white though? The only thing I remember (and it was the example everyone focused on) was that it was mentioned briefly in an IGN preview that *he thought" Deacon would be a generic gruff white dude ... but then moments later he said that he was completely wrong and the he liked Sam Whiter's performance and the performances in general.* He was giving the performance praise. Seriously, go read the preview as well too if you want to quickly check. The clip was completely taken out of context and the words were twisted to build a narrative. *I don't like when people do stuff like that.* Now you believe in something which isn't true years later. Days Gone came out 6 months to the day after Red Dead Redemption 2 (known for its white male protagonists). Days Gone's middling reception is not because Deacon is a white guy, no matter how many times people claim it is. The first 10 hours of the game are awful, the next 10 are just alright and then it gets noticeably good after 20 hours of playtime. Of course that will have an effect on reviews, along with the game being a glitchy mess for months. I bought the game a month after launch and it was still a mess. Still have hilarious clips saved on my PS4 of driving my bike into a horde after dragging them from their spawn causing them to fly into the sky (no ragdoll though), enemies going into cover on the wrong side of objects and getting stuck, melee animations glitching out, enemies climbing onto bins you're hiding in, enemies on bikes just sitting as you shoot them ... But no, "it's because Deacon is white." Why can't people accept criticism of a genuinely flawed game? Without the glitches, it's a 7.5. With them, it's a 7. If the first 20 hours were better, it would be an 8 or higher.
@@idakev I never said that race was the only criticism leveled against Days Gone. Nor that there was no fair criticism. Only that race is an extremely unfair way to criticise pretty much anything. To even bring up the fact that Deacon is white as a way to criticise him, as if this has anything to do with who he is as a person, rubs me the wrong way. And yet IGN were by far not the only ones to go there. Kotaku, just as an example: It is exhausting to watch another gruff white dude experience the extremes of humanity brought about by disaster... And your defence of the ign-review does not fair much better. IGN: I thought initially his whiteness was gonna be a problem, but gladly that was not the case.
You can utilize Ultrawide Resolution on an LG OLED by using custom resolutions on an AMD or NVIDIA GPU. So if your monitor is 3840x2160 then you can use 3840x1600 as an ultrawide option
The tendril colour really bothered me too. Insomniac should’ve also made it so that you choose a base suit and a symbiote suit so that you wear whatever you want when you use Symbiote Surge. Or have an on the fly symbiote toggle like in Web Of Shadows that could also allow quicker access to mech legs and symbiote abilities at the same time

I’m loving the game but on a full size 4K tv it’s pretty blurry. I tried playing at 30fps and got use to it, but I noticed I had a harder time pulling off perfect parry’s. I do hope they patch it or at least give us a 40fps vrr mode, like Insomniac did with their latest games. Either way it’s not effecting how much I’m enjoying the game.
What differentiates PS5 from Xbox or even PC? For years, Colin has always said it was all about the games. And he's right. You buy a Switch to play Nintendo exclusives and you buy a PS5 for the Sony first party exclusives. Colin shits all over Xbox for not having any games and putting their titles on other platforms to subsidize game pass/fund first party titles. Yet, when Sony has no games and starts putting their differentiators on PC, it's fine. This crew is getting weirdly dismissive to its fans and can't even take a simple L on laxative. As pundits, I really think you're misreading the tea leaves. Sony's financials are down, Jim Ryan was forced to "retire" and there's been barely any first party titles this gen. Shawn Layton saw the writing on the wall before he left. Sony is in for some very rough years ahead.
My dream collaboration would be Resident Evil and Grand Theft Auto. I think Rockstar would make an excellent open world Resident Evil game where we see the final days of Raccoon City. They can make it like Episodes from Liberty City. Let us play as Barry or a new character as they try to make their escape from RC. I also would like to see RE and Uncharted in the same universe. I remember loving Uncharted 2 Co-op on PS3. They introduced some InFamous and Killzone skins. Would have been sweet to get some RE skins. Drake did experience his own Resident Evil in the first game, so he's no slouch to an outbreak.
The best thing about the Sweet Baby Inc situation is there are far too many good games to be playing. If you don't like them skip any game they're involved in. I'll be skipping Ragnarok now, but it's not much of a loss.
@@marcushankins8171 To each their own, but as a big GOW fan since the original, Ragnarok felt too much like an MCU movie to me. Too much cutesy humor, too much whimsicality.
The other word they were looking for was purgative. They were trying to think of something that you ate or drank that makes you poop. Not something you buy and take on purpose that makes you poop. That is two different things, and that's why the word laxative wasn't suitable for the context of the conversation.
I agree that the word they were thinking was laxative... It probably just didn't click at the time and with the time passing, it didn't make sense. #laxativegate
Its weird how many people are so adamant about Sweet Baby Inc "Not Being a Big Deal"TM. If it wasnt a big deal then whats the problem with the Steam curator group? If its not a big deal then why did SBI employees mass report not only the curator page, but the guys actual steam account too in hopes of making him lose all his games? Why are there literally clips from the founder talking about the changes she tries forcing upon developers? Anyone saying people are overreacting are either ideologically aligned with SBI themselves or simply havent done their research and are lazily chalking it up to "gamers mad and wrong lol".
@@marcushankins8171 That's just demonstratively untrue as well. If they had absolutely no power then they wouldn't exist or, at the very least, absolutely wouldn't have some of the biggest AAA studios as their clients. I think it really comes down to how we view "power". Nobody is saying that the founders of SBI can just force a company to fire someone or agree to their changes, but there's absolutely a degree of societal pressure to adhere to whatever changes they make and to let these type of consultancy firms look over your game to give it a stamp of approval.

Colin said satisfied instead of satiated, let us mark this moment in history.

I feel like the guys missed the point with the right in about the chef friend. Their argument isn't that PlayStation games are better than the other games that are available on PlayStation, the argument was that they just like them more, so they feel their absence. It's not that Grandma's macaroni and cheese is the best thing in the world, but you love it and it is special to you
As somebody who really did not vibe with horizon or Ghost of Tsushima, but really loved kill zone and infamous, I definitely understand their argument. I really miss the days when I had sucker Punch and gorilla games to look forward to, but now they're not making my favorite meal anymore
It's not that those meals are not of high quality, they're just not the meals I want to eat

@@chris9206 I don't know why people would blame SBI for not giving out review copies though. It just sounds like an easy scapegoat

*I don't like when people do stuff like that.*
Now you believe in something which isn't true years later.
But no, "it's because Deacon is white."
Why can't people accept criticism of a genuinely flawed game? Without the glitches, it's a 7.5. With them, it's a 7. If the first 20 hours were better, it would be an 8 or higher.
@@idakev I never said that race was the only criticism leveled against Days Gone. Nor that there was no fair criticism. Only that race is an extremely unfair way to criticise pretty much anything. To even bring up the fact that Deacon is white as a way to criticise him, as if this has anything to do with who he is as a person, rubs me the wrong way. And yet IGN were by far not the only ones to go there.
Kotaku, just as an example:
It is exhausting to watch another gruff white dude experience the extremes of humanity brought about by disaster...
And your defence of the ign-review does not fair much better. IGN: I thought initially his whiteness was gonna be a problem, but gladly that was not the case.

The tendril colour really bothered me too. Insomniac should’ve also made it so that you choose a base suit and a symbiote suit so that you wear whatever you want when you use Symbiote Surge.
When you self proclaim victory, you automatically lose by default.
The best thing about the Sweet Baby Inc situation is there are far too many good games to be playing. If you don't like them skip any game they're involved in. I'll be skipping Ragnarok now, but it's not much of a loss.

Nixxes are the powerhouse gold standard of PC Porting studios, it was a surprise purchase but a good one. They occupy the same kind of space in my head as Bluepoint. They used to work a lot with EIDOS, but Square let those studios get Embraced.
"Embraced" lol. I like that. 😂
The court of louie the 16 😅😅 😅 I'm dying
Im sure someone commented already but Charlie Chaplin offspring (granddaughter or something) was in game of thrones she is the girl that Robb Stark falls in love with and eventually reason of his demise
I was going to enjoy Rebirth
*Yet Sephiroth once again intervened*
Dunkey strikes again!
The word walk was used by black folks and everyone else decided to use it the wrong way now it doesn't even have a meaning to it or the right meaning to it
*woke but you're right. Stay woke!
One of the reasons Hitler was rejected from art academy was his lack of experience in the human form. Also, the artistic trends or intrigue at the time also started to delve into expressionism and more abstract cubism styles, which hitler showed little interest in. He was a one trick pony who cared little to nothing about growth and experimentation.
I stand by the laxative write in. It’s so true
The Sweet Baby Inc discussion was mostly fair, but I feel like Chris was strawmanning the detractors here. No one (that I've seen anyway) is claiming Sweet Baby invented DEI or was the catalyst for it.
I've been getting better at drums to the point where i might buy a set soon. Probably Pearl. The key is to play every day even if its for 5 mins
I can relate to Colin on the drum stuff🤟🏻 You definitely can't just pull those outta nowhere. Drumeo is also an amazing channel❤❤
I was unaware of this sweet baby inc stuff. I will not support any game, no matter how much I was looking forward to it, if they were involved.
No way "meta" is an acronym. More likely the acronym was made after the fact.
yeah, I'm not even really sure where that convo came from. Meta is fairly obviously an old Greek word, and if you just look at the etymology on Wikipedia of metagame you can see that it has no example of any such acronym (and obviously predates gaming, so why would it stand for something related to gaming...) That acronym just seems like some dumb redditor invention in 2018 that like 5 people saw on r/gaming and believed even though it doesn't make any logical sense why a thousands year old Greek word would stand for something related to digital video games... lol
Yeah I agree. Meta itself makes much more sense than the acronym
We have a F.E.A.R. Situation here boys. Definitely worked backwards on that one.
Perfectly timed welcome to sacred symbols.
Colin if you don't think that the PC is a competitor to Playstation, buy yourself a Steam Deck OLED. Rip Playstation handhelds and hail to the new king. Steam Deck: the home console next? Chris's Reagan impression was good by the way.
key metro devs are the OG stalker devs
Stand down on the Oasis hate! That band absolutely fucking rules!
I’m 55 hours into Rebirth and I can confidently say that it’s the best RPG I’ve ever played. It’s absolutely incredible. I’m playing on Resolution mode and it’s plays beautifully and looks fantastic.
I’m waiting for the performance mode patch. I can’t play at 30 but the 60fps mode looks awful
Once they fix it, I’ll dive back in
Damn! Witcher 3 has some competition eh?? Having played ff7 og….just finishing the ff7 intergrade, and moving into rebirth….the only thing that doesn’t age as well for me (being 39) is the campier dialogue…but the nostalgia has me going hard. But Witcher 3 is goated
@@ChunkCohen553try turning up the sharpness or buying an LGC2(way affordable now with new models out)
I felt the same way so I went back to Intergrade to buy time…and while rebirth is not perfect…it’s definitely playable with tv sharpness turned up as a jank fix until square gets off their ass.
