What ... is this a Canuck convention? Thanks for this review. I've been comparing the Rycote with the Rode Blimp-R. From your review, it looks like the Rycote is more versatile. The Rode is CA$490. The Rycote Super-Shield (medium) is going to run around CA$420. There's a Marantz, at CA$270 that looks similar to the Rode. - Ray in Canada
haha ...I definitely like the versatility here and the one I've used in the past was actually the Rode version. It worked just fine but like I mentioned I find this overall easier to use. The Marantz one (and some of their other gear as well actually) has interested me for a while but I haven't been able to get my hands on any to test out. I've only used a microphone noise shield thing from them and the build quality was decent enough so it might not be bad, but Rycote is definitely the king in this genre :)
@@ScottDumas Hi Scott, we are up to a "warm" -7 degrees C right now :-) snowing a little bit. Holy Gee, I just asked Alexa what time it is there, and it's 1:41 am ! I'm surprised you are still up. Anyway, thanks for the video Scott, always amazing info you give. BTW, your review of that new Aperture Light Dome II - is really good !
Oh, only -7 haha... we dipped down to 2 or 3 today here and actually saw a little "snow" ourselves. Everyone went nuts, literally kids dancing in the parking lots hahaha. Anyhow, thanks again, I'm happy to help! :)
Great video, Scott. Really informative and very well presented (so nice not to be shouted at!). I’m very interested in this kit, just worried that my daughter will think it’s a new pet! 😁 Many thanks. Simon, UK.
Good call- I've never tried it in all honesty but it could be a very quick, cheap and easy way to get shorter mics closer to the talent. The front and rear sections snap in the same way so I think it should work. I'll check it out when I get home and update this if I find that it doesn't work for some reason :)
Scott Dumas right on man! I have a cheaper audio technica and I think it’s maybe 9” or something. And there’s a lot of space in that blimp. It would kind of suck to have to buy more accessories.
Do you have the location kit for the S-Mic 2? I would be interested in a comparison between the location kit foam + fur setup vs the blimp + fur setup to see just how much difference having a blimp in the equation makes a difference. Thanks!
Hi! I actually don't have that, but I do have one for another microphone, so I can try that for sure :) I think in strong wind there will still be a pretty significant difference because the fur just diffuses the wind, but that wind will still hit the mic more or less directly (just gently)... the blimp creates that airspace around the mic which really helps. But, I would be curious to hear it too so I'll be sure to get to that soon!
Hey, I made a quick comparison video if you're still interested in seeing how the blimp performs beside a simpler foam/fur setup. Hope it helps! ruclips.net/video/C98M36j2Azo/видео.html

Great review, thank you.
That’s a quality product and versatile for different mics 🎤 thanks for the review 🙏👍
Great tutorial. Thank you for the very concise and to the point video
Nice review, man. Needs more views.
Much appreciated!
Just bought the medium for my 416!
Awesome! Hope you love it :)
Excellent video, thanks.
Thanks for watching! :)

@@ScottDumas ha ! sounds like fun Scott ! when kids see snow, they go nuts, when they aren't used to seeing it. Thanks for your email !!

Thanks so much! Glad it could be helpful :)
Instead of buying a shorter pod for the front, can you just switch the longer and shorter sections around?
