    I have a 1977 Sting with micarta handles, I bought when I was in the military. It is one sweet knife. Back in the 70's and 80's everyone was into boot knives & this one was classy. I carried mine many years, and since daggers are now legal to carry in Texas, I am going to start carrying it again.

    I was given an original 1977 Sting for my 19th birthday. I have more knives than I care to count, but the Sting is my favorite by far.

    Cool! I have a 1977 Sting KLC11445. Always wondered why it looked so unique, I don't know where I obtained it but amazed by how much they are worth.

    my father gave me my sting when i was about 16, & i could tell by the way he acted when presenting it,
    that the knife meant a lot to him,
    as he gave me very few gifts before his death when i was still a teen ager.
    so the 1977 rose wood Sting means much more to me than just a knife, & no amount of money could replace the moment i received it.
    thx to all who made the AG Russell boot knife possible,
    regards

    Thank you for the very interesting video.
    Now I can understand why John Thomas Rourke
    chose the A.G. Russell Sting 1A as his EDC Boot Knife.

      It should also be noted that Matt Helm used AG Russell products in his later exploits

    The first gun I bought myself and the first expensive knife I bought myself was a Detonics Combat Master and an orginal AG Sting because of The Jerry Ahern books. They are both well over 40 years old but I would still trust my life to either one of them. Newer doesn't always mean better and old is not the same as obsolete.

      Correct! When you get this you only need a pair of Detonics Combat Masters.

      @Harree Adorable Someone made a leather shoulder holster designed to hold a Detonic Combat Master on one side and two mags and a Sting on the other side. Great for those of us who haven't mastered double wielding Mini guns. You just know the leather designer must have Been a fan of the books. I don't remember who made it. I picked it up at a gun show years ago, and all marking have long since worn off.

    Was it named after the Hobbitt's sword in Lord of the Rings?

      I believe it is, even though the boot knife is smaller the similarities are uncanny. Too late to ask A.G. Russell he passed away last October. October 12, 2018.

      HugoStiglitz , I wonder if the guys that designed the sting sword props for the movie used this knife for inspiration also, looks like it and that would be a cool circle, from the book inspiring A.G. then A.Gs knife the movie.

    What to do if the Sting 1A rattles in the sheath?

    • @AGRussellKnivescompany
      @AGRussellKnivescompany  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Mr. D,
      I apologize for the late reply. If it is the CRKT Sting 1A, contact them and see what they can do.
      If it is the A.G. Russell made Sting 1A, send it in to us and we'll see what we can do to repair or it.
      Send to:

      Thanks for the fast reply.
      Thought there was a little trick like the paracord you can glue in the sheath like one can do with the glock fieldknives. Almost all plastic/kydex sheaths i had my hands on rattle. My sting is still on the way but i have seen several videos where it rattles. Bought it from the US because here in germany it is sold for twice as much € as it would cost in $. Not even counting the exchange rate. It`s from CRKT. I`ll see how good it`ll hold in my hand so i don`t cut myself.

    • @AGRussellKnivescompany
      @AGRussellKnivescompany  6 лет назад +1

      It shouldn't rattle, especially a brand new knife. CRKT will definitely replace if it it rattles for you. Since it's a new knife and not an old one needing repair, I wouldn't think they'd charge you shipping to swap it out.
      It might be possible to put in something very thin and adhesive to prevent rattle. Paracard I would think would be much too thick. Perhaps a couple layers of masking tape would be enough to tighten it.
      I can't recall handling any of the Sting 1As that rattle, but a few loose sheaths will always slip by quality control. Still, I think your chances for a good sheath are fairly high, the snap in thumb design leaves very little room for error.

      I have mine for quite a while now and have to say it`s great.
      I`m probably going to get the sting 3B too.
      I have found two "design flaws": If it had a bayonet blade it`d probably legal to carry in more areas because this way it wouldn`t have two sharp edges ---> probably wouldn`t count as a dagger by law in most states (i could be wrong with this).
      As i said i don`t have the 3B yet but the sheath looks quite bulky depending on how you want to carry it. An interesting "sheath" would be two shoe/boot insoles so you can hide the sting in them and you don`t feel it when you walk and it can`t be seen when inspected superfically.
      The outher side of the insoles should be the way that one can cut around them so the customer can make them his shoe size. I´m probably going to look for someone who can make this... we`ll see.
      Have a nice 2019.
