My cat used to do that as a kitten. Over time she realized I didn't want her food and stopped being so possessive. Being the only cat in the house helped
Interesting. Why, though, did you tease your kitten in the first place? If you'd just given her her food and then left her alone, there would have been no issue.
Nope, never teased her. But she was a stray kitten outside with other siblings (who now have homes) before coming to live with me. I don't doubt that they were competitive with food out there. She'd start growling the second she started munching
I can literally grab my cats food bowl away and he'll just stop and look at me, waiting for me to give it back. He's never had selfish food problem before.
When a cat feels insecure about food, like she doesn't get enough to eat or has to fight to get food, she will grow when you take her food away. That's self-defense. In fact, when you see a cat gets defensive easily, it is usually an indication that it feels the need to defend itself. I had 5 cats one time, 3 of which died of old age. They never fought for their food because they knew they would all get enough food to eat!
It''s a survival instinct built into kittens. Gotta eat faster and protect your food so your siblings do not eat it all. Not a behavioral problem at all for a kitten, it's very natural.
I have fostered feral kittens for a long time. A very good way of showing it you don't want its food is petting and stroking the kitten while it growls. This works for me every time. You never want an animal with food aggressive at an older age. Its very hard to correct.
I do wonder though, I honestly dont remember any of my kittens doing this to me, but I did have them behaving like this among them selves, or older cats doing this to kittens. why does this happen? I mean its not like there isnt enough food, and the grown ups dont mind kittens as long as they are like 10-20cm away from their head. And again not all of them do this. At my family home the current ''álpha male'' gets really annoyed with this, he isnt agressive though, but he does just walk away from the food and the other cats.
A lot of kittens I rescued were lost kittens or feral kittens. They were starving and had anemia (meaning low on blood) from all the fleas. When I gave them food they would feel the need to fight for it like they did in the wild. Biting, growling and even swiping as they would stuff their face in goop. This is called Food Aggression and I don't think it is as common as it is in dogs. But it is not good behavior for adoption. Children and other animals would be put at risk. So it is best to do this. It shows you are not interested in his food. Just him.
Fuzato15 I imagine some kittens could realize in time that there food is not going anywhere. But that is a risk I could not take when raising for adoption. I need to make sure they can get the best home they can get. This includes making sure they are not having food aggressive issues. All my kitties got great homes (one being with me) and they learned pretty quick I was not going to take their food from them. They were all loving and I always cried when they got their forever homes. I would love to start fostering again.
Had a cat named brutus--when we brought him home at like 5 weeks old--someone in the hosue dropped a chicken wing and the little monster flew after it and chomped on it and growled. We picked up the wing with him attached and growiling at it.he turned out to be the friendliest cat--yet he was in the kitchen everyday of his life during dinner--when we grilled or cooked meats--we always cooked him some--he also loved boiled shrimp. We picked him up a few times when he was young like the lady did by the scruff of his neck so he would not become combative over food.he would just stay in the kitchen silently hounding you like a small dog till he got something. He would also sit in an empty chair at the table.you had to be careful because he grew into a big cat and could stand on his hind legs and reach the counter or table to knock food to himself.
I find the best technique is to grab the kitten by the scruff of the neck and forcibly hold it down so that it is unable to move, or eat. Keep it in this position until it offers no resistance and becomes completely still. Then let it eat. If it gets possessive again, do the same. I held a kitten in place for 20mins once. Kittens tend to do this more than adult cats as kittens usually have to fight for food against the other kittens in the litter. Once they get older an learn that there's plenty of food for them, they usually stop being so defensive, but some cats are stubborn and keep doing it.
0:48 You should not put cats' food and water next to each other. Cats naturally avoid drinking water near their food because of instinctive avoidance of potential contamination.
I've never had a problem. My cat's like having their food and water close together. Sometimes as they eat they'll take a quick drink of water now and then. In fact, they won't eat if the water is moved away.
Watching kittens is fun regardless of what they're doing, but watching them defend their food hilarious. That's when many of them show the tiger that lurks within !
This proves animals got personalities too. We're just stereotype them as overall words like cute, angry and stuff. They're actually a society and are individuals
Humans ARE real idiots. Let the creatures eat in peace. O f course they are protective of their food, it is in their nature . Why do some folk believe creatures are here for our amusement?
I have one I'm fostering and does that. So grab them up and love them. Each time and pet. After awhile they quit. I think mine was a stray and starving kitten. But I kept petting and picking him up. Then putting him back down with food. They get over it just be Patient!!
It's funny but cruel. Would you like it if someone did that to you? I once had 2 cats and they both had their own bowl and ate at the same time. Never had a problem.
It’s not cruel, it helps domesticate and socialize them. Gets them used to the idea that humans won’t take aware their food. Bc if this behavior continues when they’re older, it won’t be cute or funny. This especially an issue if you have small children in the house.
It's hilarious to be honest, especially since adults don't really show food aggression (unless they are feral or starving). Unlike dogs, who *have* to be broken of food aggression or it lingers into adulthood.
Pmsl, this is the funniest kitty video I've seen so far I'm still laughing, the one with the milk, got me too got his or her face in it,lol!!!!! That was class!!!

Cause you dont wanna have a adult cat have food aggresion. They might scratch or bite you while you give them the dish. So thats why you have to make them realize that noone wants their food.
@@MrWabaki Thanks. Gently petting makes sense to me (and I know zero about cats, since -- although I like them -- I've always had dogs). It's the people who were giggling and repeatedly poking a finger in the cat's food bowl while it was eating that bugged me; looked more like teasing than training. I hear you, though, friend.
LOL imagine having breakfast at a dinner and someone coming up to you grabbing a spoon and messing with your food. A swift punch in the face and a kick in the ass would follow whoever did that.
Kittens:Grrrrrrr.....grrrrrrr (Touch my food and I will send you to THE HELL by MYSELF!!) 🔥
Human:Awww.....So cute🌸
Those are the ones that grow up to be a fury bundle of joy with those cute little murder mittens.
My cats are completely fine with sharing and dont care If I touch their food
Adam Lee same
how old are they though? these are kittens.
LOL @ 2:00. The kitten is so disoriented that it doesn't remember which is its food or milk bowl . It plunges head first in the bowl thinking that its the food bowl but its the milk bowl instead. :))) . Glad that the cutie pie realized it immediately and she/is okay and did not drown :).
Sometimes these kittens have had problems getting their share or went hungry in the past. They learn to 'protect' their share of food.
It isnt good
So cute kitten sending love love 🐱
This how I react when my kids or husband try to get to my food. Lol
Funny. My cat seems to mix her food residue with her water.
I've never had a problem. My cat's like having their food and water close together. Sometimes as they eat they'll take a quick drink of water now and then. In fact, they won't eat if the water is moved away.
My cat scoops her food up and dips it into the water before eating it. She acts like she's part raccoon.
I’ve read many cat books in my life, never once have I heard this. Source?
Lol then how come international pet shop brands sell bowls designed exactly like that? You thinkin of lions or something?
The more a kitten growls and does the nyom nyom thing the more I want to tease the ever loving shit out of it. 😂
1:13 When your friend caught you stealing her/his food 😂
1:13 funny as heck
I have a single cat yet when I put food to eat it looks around to see who's lurking. Sometimes birds clean up the leftovers.😂
Haha it's so cute especially when the kitties are so tiny. 😄
Wow! I have been around cats and kittens my whole life and have never seen this. Good stuff!
"back off! This is my kill!"
Lil kitty can't hardly stand 😂 awww
Watching kittens is fun regardless of what they're doing, but watching them defend their food hilarious. That's when many of them show the tiger that lurks within !
This cat REALLY UNDERSTANDS ME!
Of course the kittens don't want you to take their food away. Would you like it if someone tried to take your food away?
You haven't tasted my wife's cooking.
shinyam75 As far as you're aware.
That was a walk in, door's open, type of set up. Well played my good man, well played.
my dad used to yelled at me every time I was being possessive with my food. these kittens need to be thought the same, especially the orphan ones.
Alistair Harris I don't see the point tormenting the poor cats while they're trying to eat.
now now , we don't need reasons to love cats....they are just ...too lovely
My food human !!!
A wild instinct to protect their food. But cute 😂
This proves animals got personalities too. We're just stereotype them as overall words like cute, angry and stuff. They're actually a society and are individuals
Huuman: Now kitties, remember to share.
Kitties: Share, what's that a food?
they looks cute but actually selfish
They just want to eat... Are you selfish when you don't want to share your own food with someone else? No. You're just hungry. How's that selfish!
DiLayla D we can share our food with someone as hungry as us. Cats won't do that. So, selfish
Sumit Banerjee human logic does not apply here.
Its a baby, you idiot.
Same with human I think
Her: Can I have a bite?
Kitten: NOOOO
Humans ARE real idiots. Let the creatures eat in peace. O f course they are protective of their food, it is in their nature . Why do some folk believe creatures are here for our amusement?
my dad used to yelled at me every time I was being possessive with my food. these kittens need to be thought the same, especially the orphan ones
yeah and much people do this just to see the cat mad, leave alone and call those selfish the do same too, if the cat want they foods.
I have one I'm fostering and does that. So grab them up and love them. Each time and pet. After awhile they quit. I think mine was a stray and starving kitten. But I kept petting and picking him up. Then putting him back down with food. They get over it just be Patient!!
come on now people let the kittens, cat eat. you wouldn't want no one acting like that with you while you eat, right, let them eat in peace......
you talking
These kittens r me in real life when ppl try to snatch off my plate. Adorable sacred cottons!
Gosh , they are so sweet
aka, how to train your cats for food aggressive behavior and needless stress. boy it's cute.
I had two cats that grew up together. They always shared the same food bowl. Never had a problem.
everyone in this world is ready to kill for food :) we have to remember it.
That slap of Cat is very funny 😁
Nah these are actually gfs and the bfs trying to get some of her food
So much rage contained in such a small body
My kittens would never share foods too.
RUclips is the best gift by Internet that we can watch these whenever we feel depressed.. who all agree?
It's hilarious to be honest, especially since adults don't really show food aggression (unless they are feral or starving). Unlike dogs, who *have* to be broken of food aggression or it lingers into adulthood.
So ferocious! 😍
Naughty kitties and cute too😅😅😆😆
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen . The kittens are so cute 😄
Cats are so mean but I love them 😁
M Arbaz Khan a cat's personality reflects off the owners
Pmsl, this is the funniest kitty video I've seen so far I'm still laughing, the one with the milk, got me too got his or her face in it,lol!!!!! That was class!!!
So cute, but really... you don't want your pet to be food aggressive. That's not good.
This is funny asf. The two black cats was the funniest 😭
But, first of all what business you have in its bowl, when the kitten is having its meal. Just allow them to take their food to theirs stomach ful and then play with them.
Hahahahha.. cuteness overloaded 😍
