If they restrict the ability to scroll, the potential for twice twice scenarios increases a lot. There could be a stage that's just "one" room repeated as many times as the largest stage size allows, and each room is a little different and you don't know in which iteration you are. Gonna be good.

WAIT CLEAR CONDITIONS CAN MAKE YOU CHECK ALL SHINIES HOLY CRAP
And you don’t have to set it to “All”. Meaning you can have FAKE SHINIES that don’t count towards the total!
Imagine: Collect 10 1-Up Mushrooms. All the ones on a branching path are fake; there’s a 1-Up canon at the end. With a few real 1-Ups sprinkled through, but only enough to reach 4-7.
Level: Jump down into this 2-square hole! 1-Up at the bottom!
Carl: I need 8 more 1-Ups.
Level: Psych! Fish in a hidden block!
Level: See this door? It’s connected to that door you can see. 3 1-Ups inside!
Carl: That has to be fake!
Level: You got in and earned those!
Carl: That was real? Time to go back.
Level: Psyche! Spawn block locked you in!
Edit: I claim the second example! Give credit where due if you make a troll level for Carl (or others).
I hope the clear conditions don't count things inside blocks. That is, of course, not to say a clear condition to kill a specific enemy can't be locked behind an area you can only access with an item in a block.
Jaeus A I can’t know for sure. But I think the level creator has to be able to do the clear condition, and it won’t require more than what’s placed in the level.
@@jaeusa160 I think it's just a count, it doesn't matter where the things came from. So if you set it to "kill 10 dry bones", you can kill 10 that are placed, or 5 that are placed and 5 that came out of question blocks. (Or 2 from question blocks, 5 that are placed, and 3 from cannons.)
@@IceMetalPunk It matters where things come from for how available they are. If a run needs 50 Coins for example, and there's only 49 in the open stage and 1 invisible block with the 50th, that stage would be almost impossible.

There's the limit, for example max two piranha plants can be clear condition. They showed it in trailer 5:11

I was thinking specifically about collision bugs... because usually only game devs (or simulation devs) have dealt with collision often, and the headaches and pain that comes with that... we know it. We feel it. We cry over it. I used to say that if the universe was a simulation, we'd see a ton of collision bugs -- then I heard about quantum tunneling and was like, "WE ARE A SIMULATION!" :D

Ooohh, this gives me ideas... a forced co-op puzzle, but the dev exit that lets you upload is in the dark at the beginning. Main world is Night Ghost House to do this, but you immediately go to the sub world which is normal.

Don't think you can put upside down together with the dark rooms - those are exclusive to two different themes.
I like all the new gimmicks for the themes with the moon, but would rather those be an option independent of theme. Slippery ghost houses? Windy underground tunnels? Upside down castles?
you can't do upside-down and dimmed lights at the same time. two moon features cannot be stacked. they are mutually exclusive.

Oooh. Maybe an underground theme one so that the upside-down version is harder to tell the differences? Or a ghost house one? Hm...
IceMetalPunk I already shared the idea of making the upside down identical to the topside, effectively making Mario play on the ceiling.
Also, a level where topside Ghost House Day is identical to bottom Night, but with a certain type of block removed (can do Red and Blue with no Switch). You’d have to memorize the path to proceed.
Hard Mode: have both Red and Blue in both areas; they swap locations in the underground, or you set up a 1-time automatic Switch next to each pipe to keep the colors the same.

After you beat the level, there's a tag button, so maybe you can suggest tags as the player.

There’s no way mid airs disappear, do you know how easily they could have changed smb1 in Mario maker 1 to make walljumps impossible? But they didn’t because that’s part of the game and they know it

it doesn't look like it cares if you go over. there was a point where someone was beating it with 40/11 coins. Maybe if you can have multiple win conditions, that will be more possible.

The thing that worries me the most is that multiplayer menu. Look closer at it, there was nowhere that actually showed picking specific levels to play in multiplayer, only selecting a difficulty and letting the game pick levels at random within that difficulty rating.
I think they Nintendo'd this one, but I'm really hoping they did good and didn't goof.
Even worse, I don't think there's a Friends option. Global is ONLY random people online, and if you want to play with specific people, you can only do that locally with the Nearby mode. At least, that's how it looks.

I preordered once I saw the multiplayer stuff with online rankings.
On the topic of clear conditions.
Imagine those red coin levels where they have you do mini levels for a red coin, except use one-up mushrooms. Then set the required mushrooms to a couple less than the rooms. Boom, now players can pick and choose the rooms they like out of all the rooms to complete the level.
Level title for the first one of this kind: "Best 2 out of 3". The sequel? "Best 3 out of 5" of course :)

At 8:12 it shows Super Mario 3D World in its own section away from the main game called "Extra Game Styles". But it was also the only game mode in that category as well.
Its possible they may add more or there are more that can be unlocked through completing challenges or story mode.
Im thinking that we may get a yoshi's island theme as well which would be sick.
I don't think Yoshi's Island theme would work, because how would you do that for levels that don't include Yoshi? More likely would be SMB2 (the USA version, aka Doki Doki Mario Panic)

This might not be possible, at least with local play - the screen is shared, so I don't know if someone could separate from the group and duck into a sub world. Would be nice to know how much you're allowed to split up.
@@johannhowitzer The screen isn't shared in local. With local the host will need to be connected to a dedicated internet connection, then the other players will join a new network created by the host's switch. That way everyone plays from their own switch.
@@johannhowitzer It seems like global play is not going to be shared screen, though, especially for versus mode. You can see a couple points (during the Bowser fight) where no other players are on screen.

Why are you glad they’re ok with making 3D world not interchangeable with the rest? I felt like that was a huge let down. In my opinion, part of the appeal of having multiple game styles is that they each have their own unique variants on the same basic object set
