    For those of you wondering, the Chrysler Norseman was found in 1994 by a diver. He noted that the car was nothing more than a pile of rust, and that only the wheels were still recognizable. Now I imagine the car had completely rusted away. The ship itself is not long for this world. In recent years, the funnel abs masts have collapsed, and most of the superstructure is gone as well. The hull is also slowly falling in on itself.

      @@viben-moto-63 it's just wheels now, I know it's hard to believe such a beauty of a car had to sink with beauty of Italy. That was a modern like car for 1950's . Andrea Doria's upper decks collapsed expect the front wall of the captain deck . That somehow still remains intact but will probably collapse too alongside other decks on the ocean floor. What I do know about the car that it was described as nothing recognisable after they found it. But what to expect cars are made for driving on the shore and ships are made for water, it's obvious one will deoritate faster than another because of the material and structure they're made from. I'm sorry if I ruined your day and hope to see the car again

    Years ago a diver did managed to get into hold where the Chrysler Norsman was and there were other cars there as well. He wrote that it was a dangerous dive as the ship had deteriorate to the point where it had become unstable and parts of the ship's interior had collapsed making it difficult to get to where the cars were. On entering the hold, he found everything was so corroded to the stage where it was hard to make out what the cars even were. He finally found the once beautiful Chrysler Norsman an unrecognizable pile of rust. The wooden crate the car was put in had long once rotted away. And the only things left of the car were the white wall tyres, the hemi engine block and the class. I not sure wheather he took pictures or not.

      If anyone thinks there would be anything discernable of the Norsemen or any other car for that matter, needs to learn what salt water does to things and not just metal.
      The Norseman's body was actually made of hand formed Aluminum, not steel. The frame was steel and the engine cast iron. The transmission, being aluminum, would have long disintegrated, too.
      If anything was left now, it would be the glass and possibly the tires. But having been under water for the last 70+ years and the fact that the ship has collapsed onto itself, would make finding it next to, if not totally impossible.
      It's gone. If anyone makes claims to have photos of the actual car any more recent than the 1994 discovery, is lying.

I've followed the wreck's decay in detail since that day, and occasionally give presentations with my friend who was on the scene as a young "C.G.'s man. When I think of the main lounge and dining room swelling with violent incursions of seawater as the ocean burst in, I am galvanized. I had heard over and over that the Andrea Doria was too dangerous to dive, because of lots of fishing nets that had hung up on her, and had been subsequently cut loose. Maybe they found an area that wasn't so fouled. I'd certainly want to go and see her if I was 'in the neighborhood' and didn't have an iron clad dive schedule. She sure was beautiful, the Italians have a gift of everything they design looking sexy! Cars, Airplanes, Cruise ships, and on and on, what have you. I'm sure that one day, they will be designing space vehicles, and of course, your Italian space ride will be sexy, too.

    • @CJOlin
      @CJOlin 2 года назад

      Long gone, Mike. If you read comments BEFORE asking, you would have known that. The Norsemen had an aluminum body, so it would have deteriorated long before the wood crate would have. The dive in 1994 showed what was believed to be the car, but all that was discernable was some glass and the white wall tires. There were more than 50+ vehicles in the cargo hold, so the odds of it being the Norsemen...are very slim.
      When the ship capsized, I doubt much of anything stayed where it was lashed to the cargo hold deck.
      It was probably crushed on sinking, then the salt water took over. Aluminum disintegrates faster than steel in sea water, because of the slight alkalinity. Being so close to the surface, the wood crate the car was in also deteriorated rapidly, as well.

    I never understood the attraction of wreck diving..to me, it is like visiting a junkyard. Of course, you can drown doing this-is it worth the risk?

      @lisdiver  8 лет назад +8

      wouldn't know don't watch it. Judging from a couple of the comments it looks like some spend a fair amount of time watching it. You do realize you can turn the volume down right?

    • @CJOlin
      @CJOlin 2 года назад

      It's amazing how many morons who complain about the "porno" music, are just admitting publicly, that they even know what that music is. Whether or not it even is what you think, it's just stock, royalty free music, so they aren't flagged by RUclips for copyright infringement. Period.
      As others have mentioned, you do realize you can either not watch the video or just turn the volume down. Pretty simple, right?

    There’s also a car rotting in this wreckage, the unreleased Chrysler Norseman concept that no one ever got to see in person. The ship was carrying the car to New York to be prepared for its auto show exhibit in 1957. It’s the best example of an extinct car, only one ever made and never even debuted at all. You could say it never even existed. When the car was found in 1994, only the wheels were recognizable.

    This is great. Thank you for sharing your "Doria" dive with us. I appreciate the documentation, as I remember listening to the actual sinking as a boy. I take it you stayed around the shell and remains of the Promenade deck, rather than attempting a deep penetration dive? I've always wanted some piece of the "Doria", something she carried onto the ocean floor.
