I first watched this in 2018 and before I had ever made a tray. After watching 3 times and seeing the wonderful reaction from his mother, I made one as a test unit, gave it to a dear friend as a gift and she loved it. Then made a tray with all the different colors as a memorial to our daughter who we lost to cancer. Since that time I have made many trays in this style and different styles. Some were gifts, some sold, but it was this video that taught me and pushed me on to make them and increase my woodworking abilities. Thank you so much Michael.
Watched many tray making videos. This one is the best because we get to see it gifted. The look on her face is worth every bit of time, work, and effort.
The real gift is the smile her face when she opened the gift... I do hope you continue making her smile every chance you get because there nothing prettier than a happy mother... Piece and love from the middle east
I loved the end of the video. So cute with your mother saying thank you. That comment made the made the serving tray project so rewarding. Great serving tray too! I am going to make a similar project for my sister!
Thank you for the inspiration! Friends of mine are getting married this fall and I’ve been researching what to make them. This with a live edge cheese platter will be perfect gifts. Again, thanks.
Awesome colours - Love it! Just a tip - when making the handle - drill the 2 far sides with the forstner bits then use a jigsaw and finish up with some sanding - will be much faster!
What a coincidence! Its Mom's birthday this month. Let me try to make one for her. I only have circular saw and jig saw. Still I am gonna try this. I will let you know status. Thanks for the video Michael.😇
Looks fantastic! Love the tip of sticking two pieces together to create identical ends. I’ve had that challenge before and did it the hard way. Precious moment at the end, thanks for sharing that!!
@@donmolinari7476 because there’s a chance of it being around food, I typically use a cutting board oil and finish with a coat of wax. But pretty much once any finish cures, it’s food safe.
This is sooo sime and elegant. I would use this, but make the depth about 1/4 inch more. Maybe some old beer bottle caps or wine cork in resin... But really nice work.
One minor suggestion, put some dowels or do some king of joinery for the bottom. With just glue it won’t be a lifetime gift it will get 10ish Year’s give or take , depending on the care it gets . But with dowels or screws hidden by plugs will last a lot longer
Great Video. I enjoyed watching the entire process... building, editing, and music. Beautiful piece of art and great design. Keep up the Great videos!!!
I finally made a set of plans for this project!! www.almfab.com/store/p/sunsetservingtray
