Thanks for the chop test. It looks like it's this or a Hogue EXF-01

Thanks for putting this video up! I have 4 Medford folders and was looking at another when I ran across the Bonfire in 3V. I usually stay away from large choppers, but I'm very curious about this model from Medford. Years ago I was making a large chopper from D2 and I was looking into having it heat-treated. Paul Bos was still doing mail-order heat-treating at that time and he needed to know if the blade would be a chopper or a slicer. He said that if D2 is used for chopping, you'd have to go with a lower hardness (~57ish) to avoid chipping. Based on his advice, I wonder what hardness your blade was tempered to. Have you had any chipping? This blade in 3V for $450, I think is a fair price, but only if the heat-treat is done correctly. I never heard of a Medford blade breaking during usage, but then again, I don't think many owners actually USE their knives! Thanks again for sharing!

Hi Kevin, thanks for the comment. No there was no chipping & and as you could see from the video, the edge still sliced paper after chopping the hardwood ... :) , I'm not sure about the hardness #, probably best to contact Medford regarding that. I like D2, holds up well and almost full stainless. And yeah I think your probably correct regarding most Medford owners dont use there blades, just safe queens. I had five Medford folders, still own two, I did have the blade crack at the point where the stop pin goes through the blade on an Infraction folder tho !

Forgot to add that the Infraction blade was S35VN.

Hi Ryan R, yep, the new one's come in 3V, ... the D2 held up well considering what I did with it though :)
