Another fantastic review, Steve, and once again your 'Hammlet™ Soliloquy sets the gold standard for ALL automotive journalism soliloquies. One car I really want to see reviewed is the BMW M6 Convertible. Is this even possible? Does BMW lend the M6 out for reviews? They are unicorns
Thanks bruh! I see a 650 cabrio on your channel. Have you done an M6 cab? There's not much recent online. Some dealer reviews - spoiler: they like. A beggar should not choose, but Moonstone Grey/ dark brown leather, and competition package would be nice
There seem to be some difference in opinion when it comes to the new SL, watched Motor Trend review of it a couple of days ago and they didnt see any reason in buying it at all over its competitors. But i like it :)
if you love luxury smooth ride and power when need and no backache after driving for 5 hours Buy this is the car if you want speed no smooth ride but good handling and a backache after 5 hours driving get a Jaguar Ftype or a 911 porsche
Steve - Motortrend wondered in their review just where the SL fits in the M-B lineup these days. The S-class convertible is FAR more modern and luxurious, and the AMG GT is far more of a drivers car. The SL is kind of the awkward middle child now. The interior also already seems very dated, and it's only four years into its current model run. SLs tend to run for a good 12 years, so by 2022 the R231 is going to look like something out of the Jurassic age.
The big S-Class Coupe doesn't drive anything like this...don't get me wrong, I love that car for what it is but that's a completely different experience. The AMG GT is small and hardcore. I think the SL slots beautifully in between there for the person in search of the classic SL roadster lifestyle.
I'd think Mercedes would know their own car, no? From press materials..."Initially intended as nothing more than an abbreviation for "super" and "light," the name "SL" has been the best-known model in the Mercedes-Benz line for 60 years."
The luggage partition in the trunk is powered now? Wow. I guess Mercedes don't want owners to strain themselves by reaching over to pull a plastic cover.
we will never get cars looking like they did in the 70s etc because all the red tape etc but i disagree with you i have a SL400 and wherever i park up i get the looks especially when the roof is down when i get home i seem to find knickers in the car Lol
Front foglights are useless on the road. Rear foglights can be important to help others notice you, but as long as you stay in your lane, nobody needs to see your front from a mile away. They are mostly for douchebags who want to blind people.
+ast5515 Front foglights are not there for other people to see you better, they are supposed to light up the road by being positioned low to the ground so they can beam under the fog. But it only really works if they are actually low to the ground. I always found the LED ones in my 5 series Touring very useful, especially in very dense fog. It has the M bumper so they are actually pretty low- Modern LED headlights, at least intelligent Matrix ones, are so advanced though, that this effect can be reproduced in a more efficient way.
***** Strange. On my car the range of the foglights is around 3-4 feet. Exactly where the light of the low beams start. So... In my car they REALLY are useless. You might have a car where they do something, but I think you are the minority here.
Nice job grabbing the audio with the top down - came through clear and no wind noise!
Thanks for noticing the technical stuff!
I really like this car again. This is car you buy just because it is a classic name. Period. It will still look good 10 years later.
Only reason for me is the ABC
I like the review and even learned about the night LOGO. Is that an option or standard equipment? I can't find it on my car
It’s an option
Yep, you have a top-notch camera crew!
Thanks!
I hate how the navigation screen and the air vents are off center from the raid up controls on the dashboard
if you are driving this car everything is in place get a test drive and you will see what i mean
I love your job Steve!
Thanks, Mario! Me, too!

I've done a number of them but not in a while. I'll make a call on your behalf!

Steve, you got the best job in the world.
Thanks, man!
Oh, and very good at it as well.TestDriveNow.com featuring Auto Critic Steve Hammes

Speaking about Mercedes -- when will get a chance to try the new E-Class? Perhaps a more approachable Mercedes priced in the $60k range.
I'll try and book it next
My grandparents ordered almost the identical car
Dream car.

SL = sport lightweight, not super light. Funny how MBUSA rebadged this to 450, it's a 400 to the ROW.

Bob808 sports light? I would like to see some authentic documentations.!
Same car motor trend used?
Nah, that car was an AMG SL63 - same color though.
lol at ur face when u change the moonroof transparency
Ha! I thought the same thing.
Hi Steve!
Hello!
Looks decent. Not a big fan of convertibles.
The luggage partition in the trunk is powered now? Wow. I guess Mercedes don't want owners to strain themselves by reaching over to pull a plastic cover.
Yeah. Pretty cool.
It's nice, but I'd spill coffee all over those white seats every morning.
Why can't they make this car look good? SLs used to be so beautiful back in the day, now they've just been pig ugly for the last few generations.

I luv my v8 sl. No interest in a v6
Well im not interested in v8, i prefer v6. Its much better on gas and have enough power. I guess we all get what we like)
New feature -- a Mercedes with Apple CarPlay. (How 'bout Android Auto?)
Negative
As ridiculous as this may sound MB probably thinks their customers own nothing but iPhones.
TJC450 I wonder. .
@@TJC450 i have the sl400 in the uk and has android play
Seems like all car company's are doing away with fog lights.

Wow
Doesn't look appealing. The interior specially around the center console doesn't look good either.
It just doesn't LOOK like a hundred grand car should look.....
colderbeer
its the badging
if you are in the Uk there is Specsavers hehe
Gimmie the V8
i have driven both but trust me on this model ie 20187 the v6 seems perfect for this car
