Landed here because I was looking for vidoes on lego tractor 8859. Now that would be a giant build, and the little guy could probably fit in to drive it!
This was the first Expert Builder kit I got when I was a kid...brings back some great memories! I hope you build the thresher PTO attachment for it some day! Still waiting to see the huge car chassis model. that thing would sag in the middle under it's own weight! ;-)
Same for me too! I loved that kit. I also had a blue go-kart, a blue motorcycle/3-wheeled chopper and a dune buggy Expert kits as well as a bunch of other kits and parts. I had tons of fun building and playing with my Lego stuff.
I was thinking the other day, would it be possible to build giant versions of the Technic parts using the 3d printing technology of today, well it seems you already did that :D These are so epic, also these old Technic/Expert Builders are my favourite Lego sets !
Fantastic builds these! My favourite implement for this tractor is the plough with the big 40-tooth cogs. Any chance you could print that up and assemble it? It sounds fantastic when it goes!
Before to long.... you will need an airplane hanger to store all of the finished models... Has LEGO Co. contacted you yet, maybe to assist you in displaying your models at any of the LEGO sponsored conventions?... In hopes that your models would go on tour of the world, so many can see your models up close and in person.... How cool would that be!!!
@@MattDenton well, you might need to be creative 😉 OK, it's not so easy. You might need a geared motor for 12V or so. A lower voltage is safe and with a high gear ratio it's slow enough for these giant wheels. You might need only a slow walking speed. But it costs quite a bit. OK, I use my imagination and I can see it. You don't need to build it 😀
These giant Lego builds are just lovely! Only downside I can see is where to put them all?! Or do you have a giant shelf where you can show them all off?
Print the first Lego castle set . It would still have playability for kids to use aswell. Or just do it because it would be epic! Imagine playing outside and defending your castle while wearing some printed armour as you were the minifigure's that came with the set :P
Those rear tires are the same as the 956 Auto Chassis Expert Builder. I gotta see a giant printed kit like that. The plates are huge, the girders are very long. Maybe some day...
If you want to show off some of these soonish, Mike Grieve is looking for exhibitors for Reading at the end of next month. I'd love to see the Bulldozer in person! www.readingbrickshow.com/ I'll be taking my own 5x brick-built Space models (they're scaled to those flashlight minifigures): flic.kr/p/Z2egdn and flic.kr/p/232XH4G Along with some 12x brick-built Spaceman minifigs (0.5m tall). I've also got a remote-control 5x Fire Chief Buggy rigged with flashing lights: flic.kr/p/Z2ek24 Biggest one I've done so far is an absolute classic: #6870.
Looks cool but not worth buying thousands of dollars of stuff to do so. The printer with the extra print head and the price of the PLA, this thing is a hell of an investment for just something pretty to look at.
Hi Matt, very cool and good job, i'm so imprest. I'm just printing this red tracktor ( i downloaded the file 4 or 5 years ago), and i want to know, what king of ball-bearing did you installed? thanks a lot
@@MattDenton thanks for your answer. But after check with parts i allready printed (5x scale), the hole is 24 inside and 31mm outside. Did you increased the hole or modified files for these parts? I think i will print small ring with nylon or ABS to put it on. Thanks Matt
Hmmm. Well I’m not sure which but you’re on about but I thought the bearings were 37mm outer, so I used to modify the parts where bearings are needed. A sleeve like you suggest would work though
You giant lego guys ... are awesome! Love the great work you're doing same as agepbiz and that Iron-bat-man robot Brit whose name I just forgot ... but yes, awesome stuff. That said I just checked prices on the MOARstruder just to find out that the printhead needs to be mounted to a printer costing more than all my printers combined =D So for the time being no MOARstruder for me I reckon. Still - such great projects! Also had to subscribe to your Thingiverse page instantly. Thank you very much for sharing. You need many more subscribers! Someone needs to get you hooked up with a filament producer! So ... sharing! Cheers! JM
@@MattDentonYou bet I did - so James lives nearby - kinda means you could do a project together when he ever gets into the giant lego mood again. Splendid - no pressure of course - and no hard feelings ... but you know you gotta do it. He recently built rockets together with Ivan, the tank guy. By the way - I am in total and utter awe how great your prints come out. Maybe it's just the size hiding imperfections but to me it seems more likely you did a hell of a job fine-tuning those printers and models. Anyways - love your videos and models and content and nephew and the inspiration. Sadly now I also know I somewhat wasted my life as I could have spent my time printing and assembling giant lego sets. Cheers! JM
Oh thanks man! Appreciate the feedback. Yeah james and I should do a project at some point! There are many imperfections in the prints, as I tend to print hard and fast! But the scale does hide them. Having said they they are still pretty good considering they are printed at 0.4mm later height!
I really like seeing the early sets reproduced as giant Lego kits, but would you consider trying some of the newer kits that moved away from more traditional Lego parts (like those flat base plates) in favour of stronger beam like parts specifically designed to withstand more weight and to keep the larger models more rigid? There are quite a few smaller Technic kits that came out between 1990-2010 that would be good to experiment with as giant Lego.
Yeah maybe.. just wasn’t my era so don’t have much connection to it. Still want to make a gokart big enough to ride so maybe that’s the solution... or a metal hidden frame 😬
@@MattDenton Gokarts are definitely a recurring theme in the history of Lego Technic. I think it would be worth exploring some of the newer models for your dream of making one big enough to ride. Most of them have fewer pieces than the models you've built so far. I get the connection to the older sets though. My first kit was the original Forklift as well. However I've drifted in and out of tinkering with Lego Technic over the years. I've bought sets just to get the new parts to see what I could do with them. My current collection is kits all from 2001 onward because I moved cities and couldn't bring my original Lego collection from childhood with me :-).
I wrote while watching. Then, I got the answer - you make them on your own printer. A layer height of 0.4 mm is quite high, right? It does not allow for the best precision. That is why sometimes you have to use the soldering iron.
Very good description section (I never begin with reading that, I first watch, then look for information - if any). Yep, next time I should hold my horses and only write my comment when I have watched the entire video and read the description to it. :)
