This movie is very underrated and I really like the art style it’s very children’s book like which is understandable as this is based on a children’s book I feel like this movie is like a mixture between Bambi, watership down but underwater and a little bit of wall.e mixed in
Whats worth noting is that Samson's Dad who only appears at the beginning of the movie is actually his Mum in the Danish dub which explains why we don't see both his parents interact on screen
Also, given that movies and shows like Captain Planet, Ferngully, and Widget the World Watcher still exist to teach kids today about helping the planet. Even Fraggle Rock, one of my favorite puppet shows is Enviromental themed, since Jim Henson cared more about the planet as well.
The part about european animated movies being much less delicate is so true. Theres acually another danish animated movie with a very simular artstyle called war of the birds. It literally begins with both the parents of the main character getting brutally murdered by the villain and the main character wants revenge. I kinda wish we still made this kids movies with dark stories and intense imagery from where I come from.
Great video I haven't thought about this movie in a long time, I remember watching this movie when I was little my local video store was going out of business and my dad new the owner so he have him a box full of vsh tapes and in that box was the secret garden animated movie, the katchup vampires, scamper the penguin, and this I watched this movie with my two little brothers and we started to absolutely bawl our eyes out, my mom ended up throwing the tape away. Safe to say this movie stayed with me.
I had the vhs of both scamper the penguin and sampson & sally as a kid. My Grandma gave them to me. I love both of those movies. I was very happy to find them on dailymotion and internet archive. 😊
this movie was a childhood favorite of mine, I had the English version. I dont think my parents realized what they bought for me, after only watching it again when I was older I realized how dark this film was and it really hit me when "Atlantis" was NYC completely submerged underwater with the statue of liberty.
Yeah, people enjoy dark stuff and children are much more resilient than adults. But to those who are saying : People are weaklings who find this disturbing. Well, yeah, you say that until something happens to you and then it's bad. But if this happens to others- it's fine.
I remember watching this as a kid. This movie was my favourite. Today, I especially appreciate that it doesn't present the world as a safe place where everything will end up well. Unfortunately, such a movie wouldn't succeed today - maybe as a festival film.
I agree the fact we should touch more on darker subject matter in kids movies again. Sometimes sad is good. Its more the tone and art style that make it traumatic. Literally if they didnt use the theramini so much it probably would be like 90% less scary.
There's also this scene where samson's mom dies to hunters. Note that there is a snowstorm during that scene, it's the snow means death tv trope being used there.
Honestly it’s true I’ve always appreciated movies that could put out a more darker topic or serious topics to really help understand things than those who rather sugarcoat it.
I saw it when I was little and I thank god my mother met me see it. It inspired me to fight against the killing of whales. Thank you for making this video
1:04 As American I did grew watching films like the Zombi 2, Dawn of the Dead or any of Lloyd Kaufman's movies when I was little kid (because I have awesome mom that didn't care what I watch), I'm not really horrified by this stuff compare to other American kids.
Why did you not review Spider-Man across the spider-verse you need to review that movie at some point it is a masterpiece of animation across the spider verse is the best animated movie of 2023.

I haven’t seen this movie since I was a child
Me neither, I found it a little hard to understand, and almost as dark as Watership Down.
Also, given that movies and shows like Captain Planet, Ferngully, and Widget the World Watcher still exist to teach kids today about helping the planet. Even Fraggle Rock, one of my favorite puppet shows is Enviromental themed, since Jim Henson cared more about the planet as well.

I love both this movie and Scamper the Penguin. I haven't seen these in years but I grew up watching movies like these.

Disturbing? Only for the weaklings of today

I've watched it many times
This was one of my favorite movies as a child.
Oh and the swedish dub sounded like it was recorded on a potato in someone's basement. 😂
