3:26 thats because kingdom key is too short for slapshot to work the best looking back on this, most keyblades are about the length of kingdom key so its a good criticism of slapshot, but thats only an issue really if you dont have combo master which you get shortly after slapshot in FM
Aerial Dodge is superior to Retaliating Slash anyway. The immunity to taking a hit if you time your usage of Aerial Dodge properly allows you to regain defensive control of the battle. Which, is much more important in difficult battles and boss fights, especially if you miss proper timing on a dodge roll. But, then again, I always choose the shield in the beginning because I favor earlier access to defensive abilities to offensive ones.
But... you can have both of them activated and they serve very different purposes. Activate both of them, use the most useful one according to the situation.
@@deathzexion okay, but the misinput thing is still an issue, so while normally I'll agree, this is a situation where one is just better, why equip the weaker one?
I always purposefully take the hit just to make a cool aerial combo. That knockup attack does little to no damage and never made a difference to me anyways.
Sometimes I really wonder what they were going for with Dodge Slash. It's super slow, whiffs constantly, and hell even the animation looks pretty silly.
Well, back In KH1, It was way sillier. It used to be a mid-ranged attack to approach the enemy, but Instead, It was a long sweep, which left you vulnerable for half a second...
It's really good against marluxia and that other one that unlocks when you best the game in Disney castle(can't think of the name) in the fact that you can basically stun lock them and take most if not all their health away. Especially with that Disney castle boss. It takes too much nonsense to beat otherwise unless you're on top of your game. Some people wanna 100% the game without too much fuss, which is understandable. In these cases, ways to cheese him like this as well as fenrir and all negative combos really works wonders. Berserk works well against sephiroth to take him down pretty quickly as well. As long as you're ready to stop him whenever he does his instakill ability, berserk makes him manageable as well. It doesn't work with all bosses, but a majority, yes. It also helps with that one annoying mushroom XIII in Radiant Garden in that area where you fight the "Dance, water! Dance!" Dude. The mushroom requires you to get a bunch of hits on it before you can defeat it properly. The berserk let's you do it pretty much first try if your timing is even halfway decent.
@ipoopedahammer2219 oh nah for sure, it's practically required to beat xigbar on lvl 1, at least without losing your sanity and not only that mushroom but that one mushroom at mysterious tower, that's the only way I've been able to beat that one, either berserk+Aeiral spiral or berserk+master form
Retaliating Slash has always been useful to me. Especially for something like the Sephiroth fight; when he slashes Sora in the air then teleports up to slash again, you can easily counter this and do an air-combo with Retaliating Slash. I've never had any problems with it regarding poorly timed presses. I HAVE encountered poorly timed presses when trying to guard, though; I end up dodge rolling or quick running when I don't want to.
for example its just very bad for that specific move on the battle against lingering will that he showed on the video, since it negates your second chance ability but its not the absolute worst imo
Gamaliel everything you do on that fight will kill you on every try untill you either pick a guide (because revenge values were not handed over to the player. Someone had to craxh it's head and prolly game codes to understand that) or use the negative fenrir combo (guess what? There's little to no chance of you figuring any of those by accident)
the moment you mentioned auto forms/summons I knew what you were talking about on those. I never ever equip those just cause from experience... I didn't like it at all. The other abilities are good points too, never thought of retaliate slash to be bad in certain fights... I will keep most of these in mind. thanks.
I remember when I played vanilla KH2 years ago, and I was around level 45, but could never beat Sephiroth. Obviously because I was really underleveled, but I was persistent. Then I got the Berserk Charge ability from the Berserk Keyblade, and won on my first try with it.
i remember how i just wanted to equipped every ability just to feel like a badass, now i use abilities that can actually help me but i wish there was an ability to get donald to heal me faster
The first time I played Kingdom Hearts I never equipped any ability until the last boss, when my sister discovered that there was an ability that made you see the enemy's health bar. Silly me, never actually caring about customization...
I remember berserk charge being useful against Lingering Will, joined with the 3 slash air attack ability, since he cant break out of the combo for a long time. I may be remembering wrong, tho. Edit: watched your LW cheap tactics video. Its there. I didnt know it was considered "cheap". It was just my natural reaction to such a bossfight, because horizontal slash abusing was part of my regular combo.
Some people like to pretend doing anything except basic combos to kill a boss is cheap, cheese or downright cheating. Fact is, all these things are in the game for a reason and you're encouraged to use them for all kinds of situations that are impossible to pass without them, so why wouldn't you use them in boss fights too if they help?
Would you say that dodge slash would whiff less if slapshot wasn't equipped? I noticed that Terra combo at 1:15, but does combo boost always factor in each individual hit from dodge slash, or is it only vs. Terra?
I actually use Auto Limit with Duck Flare on super bosses, usually to just avoid the first attack. In my experience, Auto Limit is only really good with Donald's limits for a cheap escape from an attack.
I've only had ONE instance where Berserk Charge was useful to the point that it saved me from dying. It was my first play-through on KH2 for PS2 during the Xaldin fight in Beast's Castle. I was getting owned by the laser sweep on the bridge and used Cura only to have my HP almost erased soon afterwards. Out of desperation I used Master Form IIRC, only for it to go Anti-Form to my dismay and my heart sank. Since I couldn't heal, even if I did have MP, I went all in only or find out that while in Anti-Form using Berserk Charge I could stun lock Xaldin infinitely, and without retaliation, all the way until I both got my MP back and the form reverted. The Anti-Form / Berserk Charge combo literally saved me from dying, while also doing a nice amount of damage to Xaldin if I remember correctly. I was able to heal afterwards and finish the fight. Although that ability did save me, you are right, that ability is trash. I NEVER used it again after that fight, despite the fact it's pretty much the reason I didn't lose. The fact that it requires such a specific set-up makes it both hard to use and harder to justify equipping as a result. Never played KH2:FM though, so I don't know if it's easier to force something like Anit-Form to make it useful when you actually WANT to use it.
I'm pretty sure it's not berserk charge. When you drive your HP and MP go to max. This happens even to Anti-form. The only way that would be possible is if you were battling Sephiroth with it (not possible still) and he used his attack to put your HP to 1 and MP on recharge
I have only ever had one good use of Retaliating Slash, and that was against a Roxas boss hack when he knocked me at the edge of the stage with the end of his grounded multi-keyblade slash where I was at 1 HP, no Elixirs, no drive, no MP, and he had only a little bit of one bar left. Aerial Recovery would have killed me, but Retaliating Slash just barely managed to set up the final combo I needed, since you can combo the critical stagger into things before the weak hit comes out. Retaliating Slash has its extremely niche uses, but that's it. Aerial Recovery is definitely the better move under almost every circumstance.
I love how many abilities have specific use cases or can be outright negative and how you can customize down to the nitty gritty and turn them off entirely. For that reason I can't understand why there isn't any apparent way to disable attraction flow in khiii
You could not hit the button and you can cycle through your passives with L2. Besides in KHIII you arguably have more legit customization in III since the game isn't so biased towards melee. On top of that, Formchanges literally have unique playstyles you can focus on. And, finally, KHII's other fatal flaws include: bosses with Second Chance and the game having too many situational abilities that are hardly useful unless, again, it's all about physical damage. In III, the game is built entirely around utility and personal choice. But, please fanboy, keep slandering III because it's not II or II FM.
Auto Limit can be handy during the Roxas and Axel data battles because of my strategies. For Axel, I guarded his opening and did a combo on him to trigger his Clear Light command and then I spammed blizzaga at him. After Clear Light I cast blizzard 4 times before jumping to dodge, and then I would continue to dodge like this until he started walking towards me, then I cast another blizzard. If I needed to heal, instead of using Cure, I would instead use the Trinity limit. I was using Oathkeeper so I could get off 3 Breaks before the limit wore out. When the limit did end I'd pop a Hi-Potion and start enough combo, allowing me to deal a lot of damage and heal instead of just healing. If I ever needed to heal while in MP recharge, I'd change into Limit form and spam Sonic Blade when I got to 1 HP. Because of the fire wall I'd end up getting caught in a loop of constantly Sonic Blading but MP Rage usually allows me to get away with this until the Drive runs out. When I fought Roxas, my strategy was mostly the same. Auto-Limit was useful in these fights because there was rarely if ever Reaction commands to exploit. Instead of constantly swapping between the two command menus, I could just stay on the one with Trinity Limit instead. Since I use Trinity Limit first it's more important I be able to reliably trigger it, then I play more cautiously while MP recharge is up.
This video is really helpful in explaining what these abilities actually do, the description for the abilities in game are somewhat vague and can be misleading
What's the big open area at 1:55? I've beaten the game and it looks kinda like Pride Lands, but Sora isn't a lion and it's not green. As for the moves, Auto Limit has done me well a few times but the Auto Drive moves are just useless. I genuinely have no idea why Negative Combo even exists.
Hello there I know this comment is alittle old and you may know now, but if you don't here I go: I'm going to guess you're asking about the sandy area, which is the Zexion absent silhouette battle you can find in the underworld in Olympus. If you're meaning the area after that clip, that is the lingering will secret boss that you can find in the Disney castle near the entrance to timeless river after you beat the game (You can possibly do it before the final boss, I'm not entirely sure though.) P.S. - if you fight it, good luck.
I find some of those abilities to be useful at some specific points, for example Berserk Charge is VERY useful in Sephiroth boss fight since he gets many hits from such an ability without resisting much. Every ability has its usefulness at some point and after alll, it’s an RPG game and such exclusions and inclusions are vital for a strategic continuity of different boss fights. But at the end, I do agree that these abilities you’ve mentioned are important to exclude in some challenging boss fights especially the ones that were added within the Final Mix version
2:40 For me these "skills" only make sense if you know how to level them up and consequently activate and deactivate them so if you lose life, you take advantage of the fusion that brings you back to life and with the excuse of increasing its level
I do use berserk charge with ultima weapon though; you can easily delete one of sephiroth's health bars repeatedly, in most of his phases. After he hits you into the air, aerial dodge, then spam horizontal slash. Watch as sora carries Sephiroth across the map until you get your mp back, then trinity limit/cure. Repeat. Win.
00:50 The problem is not what it does, the problem is with certain enemies and bosses it doesn't stop them and you find that the enemy uses the hyper armor and you lose
Thanks for the tips biz, I've been playing kh2 for a long time and I never knew any of this stuff or that any of the moves could really whiff. I just wish I knew this stuff sooner when I was fighting sephiroth and almost lost my mind from how hard it was when in reality all I had to do was get rid of abilities that I didn't need.
Drive converter is also awesome when fighting the mushroom in agrabah with limit form to grind tranquility items. Other abilities I had no trouble with
Like a previous comment said, During normal gameplay, I don’t care about abilities or what they do but when it comes to Boss battles(especially Org battles) I steer clear of any Drive forms and I did not know about the retaliating slash it might help against Xaldin.
Hot take: Arial Finish is a contender for one of my least favorite. It does great damage but leaves you pretty open to attack. I had to turn it off when I fought Sephiroth because the stock finishers were better for me and got me on the ground sooner to dodge his other attacks.
It's not the best finisher for sure, though if you have Finishing Plus equipped you can do a secondary default finisher to get that same landing speed.
@@Bizkit047 Yoooo, I feel like I commented this ages ago. I’m better versed in the combat now, I commented this because I didn’t know you can reflect Sephiroth’s air attack, land on the ground and combo him. Appreciate the comment.👍
I will counter the auto drive ability. There were moments when auto limit actually does save me and help me make a comeback, but having MORE THAN ONE AUTO DRIVE, yes that can be annoying. Suggestion: just pick the ONE drive form you are most comfortable switching automatically, problem solved.
Slide Dash doesn't whiff if your Keyblade is long enough. Tested it on Sephiroth, Oblivion was a bit too short so I used the Guardian Soul for it's equally good Strength stat, but much longer reach.
2:20 auto abilities can be good sometimes, specifically the auto drive form one which has saved my ass multiple times during data fights when they get me on 1HP
you just have to know when it is the right time to use retaliating slash.... after the bosses' combo. it isnt a bad ability if you use it right. sometimes you use it, sometimes you shouldnt
Having done a bunch of level 1 runs (though admittedly nowhere near having the experience of most KH2 runners) the only time I ever equip retaliating slash is for the sephiroth fight. At level 1 you can survive getting hit by his upper slash move, but as far as I can tell the only way to escape the ensuing combo is with retaliating slash. Other than that I never found it useful, aerial dodge trumps it pretty much every single time.
Aren't some - or all - of the "bad" abilities situational as well? It was a good long while since I played KH at all, but I remember liking to be able to choose from all three options when getting hit in mid-air, for instance. If you're up against a boss (like lingering will shown in the video accompanying the ability) against which it is inadvisable to use retaliating slash, then of course don't use or even equip it. Dodge slash one-on-one is pretty meh, but I don't see why it would always necessarily be bad; against mobs for instance the wide slashes work really well to keep enemies in check. And the argument that you won't get to your finishers quickly entirely depends on if you are even aiming for them to begin with; the same case could be made against combo pluses. Which makes no sense since they are obviously there to accomodate certain strategies. tl;dr: This video to a certain extent sounds to me more like a number of personal preferences rather than an objective analysis
I feel slightly embarrassed. I've been playing this game for something like 7 years and I never knew how bad dodge slash was. I never made the connection with wiffing and the combo modifiers.
Dodge Slash is only a problem if you're using a mid- or short-range keychain. If you're using a long-range keychain, like Decisive Pumpkin or Ultima Weapon, it won't fail.
In fairness what taught me to be aware of what abilities I have equipped are the tough battles and usually in a playthrough I equip most things that don't have "auto" in it unless it's Trinity limit maybe. Other than that I play with all of the janky abilities for variety's sake but when tackling enemies like superbosses. Especially the hardest challenges left in the game I pick and choose for the situation. Oddly enough I don't think I've had too much trouble with either Berserk Charge or Dodge Slash. Likely because I'm not a god a calculating revenge value. More so that I simply don't care about it.
if the finisher boosting abilities are buffed based on hits landed instead of combo strings, then dodge slash actually has a use. otherwise, it is total crap
i've been playing this game on level 1 recently and i've just arrived at the Roxas fight. after a few attempts i quickly realized Dodge Slash was very bad for this fight, but as it turns out, it's just bad in general. I guess now i should turn off Aerial Sweep, too.
Excluding combo plus/negative combo I think Retaliating Slash might be the best ability here, it's a nice option to have in some battles and it's not common to use it on accident, you're pretty vulnerable in the air in this game and it remedies some of that, obviously it's not all that useful against a lot of the bosses but it's a nice option. Out of these abilities I think Dodge Slash is the worst, the move whiffs 90% of the time, it's very slow and while it can parry/deflect it often times does not, when this move comes out you're at the mercy of your enemies, no offensive move in a game like this should be that detrimental to the player, it's not like in a fighting game where you have control over this move, if you have it equipped it will almost always come out instead of your basic attacks which are actually a lot better, because of how easy it is to whiff using in this in a boss fight is almost always death. (Aerial Sweep is not really a bad ability so I don't think it should be here even if Aerial Dive is better, it basically just got overshadowed by something new, it's nowhere near as bad as any of the others on this list.)
Very interesting. I still love Berserk Charge simply for the epicness ensued and the amount of damage it can deal when mashing horizontal slash, but it's true that many bosses are just unbeatable due to the revenge value, and that it puts you in risky situations. Still, it got me through half the game in record time. I probably wouldn't use it in critical though. Thumbs up for the hate Retaliating Slash, I figure out it sucked during my last playthrough. And finally, I didn't know about Dodge Slash, I'll try to remember it.
I find Berserk INCREDIBLY useful especially for spamming Horizontal Slash. You can make mincemeat of hard bosses this way because revenge values aren't affected as much due to lack of finishing moves.
This was great, because I won't lie I definitely equipped everything most of the time. I would love to see this for Kingdom Hearts 3.bow that the dlc is out.
because of the parry frames finishers have i usually combine negative combo with as many finishing plus as possible. final form with fenrir, 3 finishing plus and 1 negative combo is almost invincible.
With Retaliating Slash I like it alot and I believe you can utilize it fully if your reaction time is on point and if you don’t get half cocked and hit it out of habit. I agree with you on Dodge Slash. It wastes time for me and with some enemies, especially in group situations, I tend to want to get rid of certain ones as soon as possible so I won’t have to deal with some of the fuckery. The auto ones, yeah I can’t do those either. They are too inconvenient and they get in the way if you are facing an enemy that you can do mega damage with using their reaction. Even for Drive Forms, I find it better to just use the menu and choose which form I want to use(i can see how my method is dangerous but I think I built myself in a way that I gotten fairly use scrolling through the command menus.) Slapshot I can fuck with since it allows you to do big damage in a relatively short amount of time. Something I was gonna say was “if you have a mildly long keyblade or long key, that space where the combo doesn’t connect is nonexistent.” And i see it depends on where you have the enemy at like backed into a corner or wall or something. That combined with if you want to do a Kingdom Key run or if you have a medium to short length key is how I can see why you said its situational. Eh, I played the original way more than FM and Ariel sweep with always have a place in my heart. I fucks with Ariel Dive since its crazy wild and its a sight to see Sora going through the animation. I believe I have both equipped in FM since if you have a group of enemies, I noticed that Sweep is straight up if they’re floating above you with a medium field of attack for more hits while Dive leaps at “far” away group with a wider field if enemies converge on your location. Excusing the nostalgia factor, I prefer Sweep over Dive because, for me, Dive seems way more situational and Sweep seems more useful. Negative Combo: I just never understood this one outside of mini-games or certain missions. No point in keeping it equipped, as far as I can see Berserk same as Negative Combo, except for certain mini-games and challenges, don’t see the point in having it equipped. As a big magic user, I adore Magic Lock-On. Since I don’t use Magnet that much(just never drawn to it) I have no issues with it that you pointed out. I agree with you on Drive Converter. Love it for raising Master Exp 0: I actually didn’t know that about the forms still can get exp, interesting. And yeah, the moment I saw that, I knew it was only for if you want a challenge. Nice video, man. Was just kinda weird on how you ended it. I feel like that was a perfect moment to add an end card for a few seconds leading to your socials, but other than that, good video.
Pretty old vid, but I'll say, Berserk is pretty okay for me. Though you can't use finishers in boss battles, I found that any Square button attack that you do can actually substitute for a finisher, and you can access those faster.
If these randomizers runs from speedrunners likeBl00dy and Aceuhhhh have taught me anything, it’s that Berserk Charge is a godlike ability for one fight in particular, a bane of many speedrunners: Xigbar. Also has some use against Final Xemnas to skip the dome DM alongside Horizontal Slash.
While i do agree (And Even though i just recently platinumed the ps4 version, i learned some stuff here) with the berserk charge mostly.. The Berserk Charge is ridiculously good against Terra/The lingering will. It was only because of that that i won. Berserk charge and Horizontal slash are really good since it wont trigger his revenge value nearly as fast as a regular X combo.
I actually like to equip both Retaliating Slash and Aerial Recovery. Since the alternative to both is waiting to hit the ground for the Leaf Bracer Cure and I'm in the air in any case, I just keep both on for various counter situations. Plus my first thought is usually Reflect so I'm not incredibly prone to screwing up Retal. I wish it had some iFrames, though, because with all above things considered I still fuck it up. XD All in all, I think it's pretty solid with correct timing but it's not something to miss if the AP is needed elsewhere. Also, I know using Auto Limit isn't ideal in a speedrun but it's technically faster than dying if a "fixable" mistake is made. I consider it a decent security against straight up failing the run. What I DO hate about it is when I'm trying to use a Reaction Command at low health and I fuck up so I can't say it shouldn't be grouped with the other Auto Abilities but it's like Retaliating Slash, it's solid with proper timing. When used outside of speedruns, I consider it broken. No one casual player should have that much power between Auto Limit and Reflect. They're the wife and mistress that fuck like pornstars in the KH2 battle system.
Hmm. I usually always equip retailiating slash. I think it's pretty good to use if you're a casual player and know your fights well. Like it's really useful on Marluxia if it hits you in the air. And on Seph. Another thing. I thought the moveset you presented about the "Dodge slash" ability was slapshot? Idk..
Titxnium-_- did you know if you use Hidden Dragon and Retaliating Slash it does even more damage? It makes Marluxia's hair cutting ability far less deadly
Titxnium-_- I don't wanna be like a huge dick or anything, but if you know the fights well, you won't need Retaliating Slash, because it is never better for a fight than not equipping it. So that's not good advice to say. Aerial Recovery is MUCH better alternative to Retaliating Slash in every situation. And not sure what your last sentence means, Dodge Slash is the long spinning slash attack, Slapshot is only a quick hit attack, as shown in the video.
Titxnium-_- Retaliating Slash is generally terrible. I used to use it and as I played the game more and more as years went on I realized a lot of the fights I had difficulty on were because I'd always want that immediate gratification of countering their attacks with that move, not knowing it immediately cancels Once more and Second chance. Meaning bosses that do not stagger will immediately hit you and you'll die in a place you really didn't have to die at. Aerial Recovery does the same but you can immediately act out of it into like Reflega or something, unlike Retaliating slash, so it's a much better alternative.
Retaliating Slash, I... honestly never used it before .-. I equip it, but I never thought of pressing square to use it. And Dodge Slash, I always felt that there was something off about it. Like, it always felt so slow and impractical :x
slapshot almost never whiffs if you're using a long keyblade like ultima or even decisive pumpkin, so really it is a good ability unless you wanna use the kingdom key or something.
***** It can still whiff though (see Data Org runs against Luxord with DP). So it's always something to consider, but Combo Master helps Slapshot whiffs a lot though
i never understood using retaliating slash after u get aerial recovery. u can get hit while in it, can't cancel out of it, will make second chance, once more abilities not work if ur at 1 hp cuz u recovered so the abilities wont work, since ur going to the enemy there's a chance u'll just get hit more cuz u can't cancel out, and if ur going for a dodge roll or using other square attacks and get knocked back into the air but since u were mashing square it activated retaliating slash aaand then killing u or making u take more damage then needed if ur lucky. for early game it's good to quickly recover while dealing damage to normal enemies while dealing damaged since they wont really attack u when u activate it but when u get aerial recovery it becomes pretty much useless cuz of how good aerial recovery is. it can can protect u for a short time if timed right, u can go any direction so u can get away from the enemy instead of going right to them and dying, it gives u control faster so u can dodge or heal and u can just attack right after using it anyway. like sure u can have both on and use retaliating slash when u see an opening but it's more of a risk to have on after u get square stuff like the example i gave in the bad stuff about the ability
@@malcolmotoole i mean yeah but sometimes it doesn't stun him out of his attack and he'll just kill u if he doesn't since he does too much damage. and also even if it does work and u stun him out of it he might already have hit u and u died right after. aerial recovery can get you away from it. more so if u time it right which isn't that hard and use heal to recover health.
Bruh I've been playing this game all wrong. First I only equip keyblades based solely on highest strength and magic and then I just try to equip the most abilities I can get, later realizing that my moves were so weird.
***** I would definitely argue against that. You start the game with Aerial Recovery, which is an incredibly superior ability that accomplishes the same thing AND has s to it. Especially on Crit where you can still Ret. Slash into an attack that kills you.
Let me take a guess no EXP, that keyblade that's just endless combos with no Ender and auto summon and Auto Drive you also don't need both Dodge Dash and Dodge roll
No Experience is not a bad ability for what it achieves; You as the player have to consciously equip it. You want a greater challenge beyond Critical Mode? That's the whole reason for No Experiencing existing. It's only bad if it a) doesn't properly accomplish its purpose and-or b) interferes/conflicts with other abilities or inflicts with play.
Very good video. I agree with all of your points except for the one about berzerk charge. I agree, it can be annoying in some specific cases, but typically, a rapid unrelenting barrage of hits is an astounding health depleter for me. Typically has the same effective ness that Boss hit barrages have on the player. Typically because unlike normal combos, it doesn't give the enemy a chance to do anything but take a beating.
+Koudtah Maple Not to mention mini-games in which you benefit from not having a combo finisher that breaks your flow. I think there was a Mushroom XIII mini-game like that...
Bizkit047 You said in your video that you cancel second chance/once more, yeah, but the same goes for aerial recovery Its exactly the same only on an other butten :D
ProjectGamer what he meant is, like he says in the video, in a moment of pressure, you may try to dodge roll an attack, but the attack you just as you are pressing the button, and, instead of dodging, you do the retaliating slash.
Informative video, although it was difficult to hear you talk at times Biz; game volume too high. The only time I personally had trouble with Retaliating Slash was vs Terra's surprise whip. First and only time that ability got unequipped. Another issue with the 2x Negative Combo setup is losing access to Slide Dash, and (I think?) Aerial Sweep/Dive. That destroys Sora's mobility. You know what, I wonder how would a difficult fight like Terra be with 2x Negative Combo? Did you ever try it?
Leon Ryu Yea Neg combo x2 on Terra in air without aerial finishers equipped = you can stun lock Terra. I don't have any vids on it though cuz it's not a strat I enjoy doing (and is not doable at LV1 anyway). Also, the mic volume sounds fine to me with a headset, but I can't say if it sounds fine otherwise, but noted for next time.
The first five I use a lot in my play through. It just depends on how you play. Some of the others like Berserk Charge could be useful in certain situations.
tails the fox is awsom Wasn't using any combo plus. When in use, there were times that it didn't hit enemies and while a player can't cancel that move once it's activated, gave plenty of time to bosses and norm enemies to attack from the side.
I've never had Dodge Slash whiff for me nearly as much as Slapshot. Slapshot more like Slapshit that ability has killed me more than Dodge Slash ever has. I've unequipped Dodge Slash and equipped Slapshot before and its just awful while also being less damage (and for the record, I've had Slapshot whiff an enemy while using the Ultima Weapon before, so its not like I'm using a tiny Keyblade)
Ive seen people beat sephiroth on proud mode with dodge slash. Wondering if i should give it a try. I tried beating him even though i forgot to set my items up and got him 3 or 4 bars down before he killed me
I beat kingdom hearts and kh2 multiple times on the PS2 back in the day and never knew anything about what i was doing, i knew so little in fact that having began playing them for the first time in years im finding it incredibly easy to do things that used to elude me, like beating riku and the whole gang of 3 at the start of kh1 and leveling up a few times by using parries, and micromanaging the behavior of party members early on to save items or force the criteria into existence for exp boost in kh 2. Like i used to just button mash and wonder why i couldnt beat anything on proud mode, but nkw proud mode is easy. I guess ill have to give critical mode a try.
I like to add all the "bad" ones when doing regular playthroughs because it mixes up the gameplay and paces it down too. unequipping dodge slash and zipping through the map with instant hits might look cool and pro-like but feels less immersive and too gamey. So don't feel discouraged to experiment or equip abilities simply because you like how flashy they look or how fun they are to use :)
This may be an odd question, but is there any good way to use Reflect more often? I've been playing the game and have been barely using it, but I want to be able to use it to a point that it just comes naturally to me. I feel it may save my life in the data battles. Thanks.
Alicia Kasper Just practice using it when you see an attack coming and learn to time it. The way I did it was force myself to shortcut it and use it more often when I personally found it to be helpful in battle.
I personally think Explosion has at least one situation where it's bad: Fighting Roxas. Roxas has insane magic resistance, so even the basic no-ability combo finisher deals more damage to him than Explosion. Of course, I'm nowhere NEAR an expert on KH2 bosses, so it's entirely possible that the different timing/knockback/damage could screw up certain strategies, in which case ignore me.
3:26 thats because kingdom key is too short for slapshot to work the best
looking back on this, most keyblades are about the length of kingdom key so its a good criticism of slapshot, but thats only an issue really if you dont have combo master which you get shortly after slapshot in FM
Nobody commented yet here? Neat.
Was wondering the same thing, how strange.

You know what? I play this game pretty often and I would not call myself casual by any means, but I actually learned a few things from this. Thank Biz
Activate both of them, use the most useful one according to the situation.
death-kuja exactly
@@deathzexion okay, but the misinput thing is still an issue, so while normally I'll agree, this is a situation where one is just better, why equip the weaker one?
I mean i never really accidentally activate retaliating slash.
Retaliating Slash carried me through Sephiroth's fight whenever i failed to read his weird knockup attack
I always purposefully take the hit just to make a cool aerial combo. That knockup attack does little to no damage and never made a difference to me anyways.
@@kelving420 it's bad if u have 1 hp left though otherwise its a good opening to do more damage
@@thepotatoofheaven Yes this
You can just reflect once in the air and it does the same thing but I guess it doesn't look as cool.
though it was horrible when you pressed square too early and attacked the air, letting sephiroth land a free combo on you
Sometimes I really wonder what they were going for with Dodge Slash. It's super slow, whiffs constantly, and hell even the animation looks pretty silly.
They must of not gave a fuck
+Joey Copenhaver right. And those three hits adds to the combo, more damage that way. I like being flashy with my moves. Slapshot isn't in my favor.
Well, back In KH1, It was way sillier. It used to be a mid-ranged attack to approach the enemy, but Instead, It was a long sweep, which left you vulnerable for half a second...
I loved dodged slash caused it looked cool lol
ShiningDestinyKai Dodge slash is to show how crazy sora is for not even eating his damn dinner his mother made for him!😂😂😂😂😂
Berserk charge is kinda just one of those cute party tricks. You know, "HEY GUYS CHECK THIS OUT, INFINITE COMBO!"
Yo, you wanna learn how to do a FOCKEN INFINITE?
Berserk charge its only good for that XIII Mushroom in Yen sid tower
when the Horizontal slash combo with Berserk charge goes hard until the revenge value is filled...
Retaliating Slash has always been useful to me. Especially for something like the Sephiroth fight; when he slashes Sora in the air then teleports up to slash again, you can easily counter this and do an air-combo with Retaliating Slash. I've never had any problems with it regarding poorly timed presses. I HAVE encountered poorly timed presses when trying to guard, though; I end up dodge rolling or quick running when I don't want to.
uknownada exactly, as long as you know when to use it, it’s very useful
for example its just very bad for that specific move on the battle against lingering will that he showed on the video, since it negates your second chance ability but its not the absolute worst imo
I turned it off because sometimes it took me farther away from my target instead of towards it.
uknownada the sephiroth fight is the only place it’s useful, other than that it’s trash
the moment you mentioned auto forms/summons I knew what you were talking about on those.
Donald can be customized so that he heals Sora at a lower health threshold, but he still can't be customized to be particular about his heal targets.
xXShadow_ImageXx i
The first time I played Kingdom Hearts I never equipped any ability until the last boss, when my sister discovered that there was an ability that made you see the enemy's health bar. Silly me, never actually caring about customization...

@@Dice-Z lol!
I was just dumb and it made my life so much harder.
I basically already did what you said, but I had a hard time understanding slapshot, so naturally I equipped it. Thanks for the explanation!
Would you say that dodge slash would whiff less if slapshot wasn't equipped? I noticed that Terra combo at 1:15, but does combo boost always factor in each individual hit from dodge slash, or is it only vs. Terra?
Combo Boost is not boosted more with Dodge Slash, and I'm pretty sure with short keyblades slapshot being off won't stop Dodge Slash from whiffing
your frame data and knowledge of this game is above & beyond prestine. much much much respect and thanks for all the help

That was really informative! I've slowly learned these things over the years of playing the KH series and it's good to reaffirm my belief!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just....NOT hit the attraction flow button?
You could not hit the button and you can cycle through your passives with L2. Besides in KHIII you arguably have more legit customization in III since the game isn't so biased towards melee. On top of that, Formchanges literally have unique playstyles you can focus on. And, finally, KHII's other fatal flaws include: bosses with Second Chance and the game having too many situational abilities that are hardly useful unless, again, it's all about physical damage. In III, the game is built entirely around utility and personal choice. But, please fanboy, keep slandering III because it's not II or II FM.
Can you do a video on the "best equipment" nobody has done it before and id love to hear your opinion!

Nevio Šafranko magic recovery in 14 seconds with the right setup (multiple full bloom+s and ultima weapon gets you MP haste abilities)

Hello there I know this comment is alittle old and you may know now, but if you don't here I go:
I'm going to guess you're asking about the sandy area, which is the Zexion absent silhouette battle you can find in the underworld in Olympus. If you're meaning the area after that clip, that is the lingering will secret boss that you can find in the Disney castle near the entrance to timeless river after you beat the game (You can possibly do it before the final boss, I'm not entirely sure though.)
P.S. - if you fight it, good luck.
I did not know that KH2s combat was this complex. this is awesome!
KH2FM has some of the best, most deep combat in the entire ARPG genre. It tends to go unnoticed sadly.
Thank you for these videos! Learning from a pro really helps me out with playing KH2. Keep making more!
I'm interested as to what the other hidden abilities are for equipping exp zero in the other KH games. Great video. Really informative.
Generally just boosted damage and defense, KH1FM in particular also seems to gift you with Second Chance secretly while you use it
I do use berserk charge with ultima weapon though; you can easily delete one of sephiroth's health bars repeatedly, in most of his phases.
@@Bizkit047
Yoooo, I feel like I commented this ages ago.
I’m better versed in the combat now, I commented this because I didn’t know you can reflect Sephiroth’s air attack, land on the ground and combo him.
Appreciate the comment.👍
aerial recovery does the same as retaliation. because it counts as the combo against you ending. so it negates once more and second chance
+tiernanstevens117 However, it has s, while Retaliating Slash does not
I will counter the auto drive ability.
I really like your voice! And you also make it really easy to understand, like in the Terra farming video. ^-^
you just have to know when it is the right time to use retaliating slash.... after the bosses' combo. it isnt a bad ability if you use it right. sometimes you use it, sometimes you shouldnt
Until you have too much surplus AP (enough to equip all abilities), RS is too situational if can spare the AP to another ability.
NetWalkthroughs well you could just aerial Dodge into a combo or aerial dodge into a reflega either way you want take any damage from that attack
NetWalkthroughs care to offer some tips for lvl 1 crit runs? I’m thinking of doing mine pretty soon.
thepanis 69 if you know about lvl 1, I’d love to hear some tips or things to keep in mind cuz I’m thinking of doing my run pretty soon
Dodge Slash can be good for Combo Boost. I get the bad things about it, but I like to equip it.
I feel slightly embarrassed. I've been playing this game for something like 7 years and I never knew how bad dodge slash was. I never made the connection with wiffing and the combo modifiers.
4:02 I mean, that doesn’t make it necessarily bad( it’s just bad in some situations
Dodge Slash is only a problem if you're using a mid- or short-range keychain. If you're using a long-range keychain, like Decisive Pumpkin or Ultima Weapon, it won't fail.
And be honest, if you like to play this game, you will use Kingdom Key
In fairness what taught me to be aware of what abilities I have equipped are the tough battles and usually in a playthrough I equip most things that don't have "auto" in it unless it's Trinity limit maybe. Other than that I play with all of the janky abilities for variety's sake but when tackling enemies like superbosses. Especially the hardest challenges left in the game I pick and choose for the situation.
Oddly enough I don't think I've had too much trouble with either Berserk Charge or Dodge Slash. Likely because I'm not a god a calculating revenge value. More so that I simply don't care about it.
Doge slash is just silly
+CJAdams97 such spin, many hit. wow.
ChibiTails helped me in Cavern of Remembrance. Otherwise, it was hard deflecting the projectiles without Reflect.
if the finisher boosting abilities are buffed based on hits landed instead of combo strings, then dodge slash actually has a use.
otherwise, it is total crap
I've tested Dodge Slash with Combo Boost, it adds nothing
in that case, dodge slash has no use except for being flashy...
I've never heard Sora's anguished scream so much.
Lol that's true jajajaj😂
i've been playing this game on level 1 recently and i've just arrived at the Roxas fight. after a few attempts i quickly realized Dodge Slash was very bad for this fight, but as it turns out, it's just bad in general.
I don't find "Auto Summon" or "Auto Limit" useful but I do find the Auto forums extermly useful in a pinch.
One thing I like about the randomizer is that it makes the auto drives more useful
This was great, because I won't lie I definitely equipped everything most of the time. I would love to see this for Kingdom Hearts 3.bow that the dlc is out.
I found Retaliating Slash very useful when fighting Sephiroth; pressing it at the right time actually saved the fight a couple times.
because of the parry frames finishers have i usually combine negative combo with as many finishing plus as possible. final form with fenrir, 3 finishing plus and 1 negative combo is almost invincible.
Even for Drive Forms, I find it better to just use the menu and choose which form I want to use(i can see how my method is dangerous but I think I built myself in a way that I gotten fairly use scrolling through the command menus.)
Slapshot I can fuck with since it allows you to do big damage in a relatively short amount of time.
No point in keeping it equipped, as far as I can see
Berserk same as Negative Combo, except for certain mini-games and challenges, don’t see the point in having it equipped.
As a big magic user, I adore Magic Lock-On. Since I don’t use Magnet that much(just never drawn to it) I have no issues with it that you pointed out.
I agree with you on Drive Converter. Love it for raising Master
Exp 0: I actually didn’t know that about the forms still can get exp, interesting.
Please make more of these videos. I learn so much
If these randomizers runs from speedrunners likeBl00dy and Aceuhhhh have taught me anything, it’s that Berserk Charge is a godlike ability for one fight in particular, a bane of many speedrunners:
Xigbar.
Also has some use against Final Xemnas to skip the dome DM alongside Horizontal Slash.
I once deflected terra's aerial attack with aerial recovery
StickmanSham That is normal, Aerial Recovery gives you invincibility frames.
PlasmaFlareon looking back at this comment i think I mean't to say the aerial recovery binded to square; the one that does damage
StickmanSham Oh, then you mean Retaliating Slash. You probably parried it. ^^
I know this is a old video but I don't mind equipping retaliating slash or combo modifiers because they seem fun at times
Idk..
Titxnium-_- wat
Titxnium-_- did you know if you use Hidden Dragon and Retaliating Slash it does even more damage? It makes Marluxia's hair cutting ability far less deadly
Titxnium-_- hits you in the air?
Thank you for Dodge Slash, Sephie deals me a lot damage because of that sh**, and I couldn't tell which ability corresponded to the move !
slapshot almost never whiffs if you're using a long keyblade like ultima or even decisive pumpkin, so really it is a good ability unless you wanna use the kingdom key or something.
***** It can still whiff though (see Data Org runs against Luxord with DP). So it's always something to consider, but Combo Master helps Slapshot whiffs a lot though
Negative combo can be used to bully first phase Data Xemnas and cheese Lingering Will so it will always have a place in my heart.
The only Auto ability I equipped, Auto Limit (Form). Helps a lot on Critical but annoying sometimes because of Anti Form.
***** can you tell me what that move is called 5:23?
its finishing leap its used by hitting square at the end if a combo
Yeah i figured it out by his what needs to be fixed video of 2.5
i never understood using retaliating slash after u get aerial recovery. u can get hit while in it, can't cancel out of it, will make second chance, once more abilities not work if ur at 1 hp cuz u recovered so the abilities wont work, since ur going to the enemy there's a chance u'll just get hit more cuz u can't cancel out, and if ur going for a dodge roll or using other square attacks and get knocked back into the air but since u were mashing square it activated retaliating slash aaand then killing u or making u take more damage then needed if ur lucky. for early game it's good to quickly recover while dealing damage to normal enemies while dealing damaged since they wont really attack u when u activate it but when u get aerial recovery it becomes pretty much useless cuz of how good aerial recovery is. it can can protect u for a short time if timed right, u can go any direction so u can get away from the enemy instead of going right to them and dying, it gives u control faster so u can dodge or heal and u can just attack right after using it anyway. like sure u can have both on and use retaliating slash when u see an opening but it's more of a risk to have on after u get square stuff like the example i gave in the bad stuff about the ability
It's good for Sephiroth when he hits you into the air.
@@malcolmotoole i mean yeah but sometimes it doesn't stun him out of his attack and he'll just kill u if he doesn't since he does too much damage. and also even if it does work and u stun him out of it he might already have hit u and u died right after. aerial recovery can get you away from it. more so if u time it right which isn't that hard and use heal to recover health.
dayum dodge slash sucks, right. i remember thinking it was was but never just figured to remove it. probably because i had no idea which one it was.
Bruh I've been playing this game all wrong. First I only equip keyblades based solely on highest strength and magic and then I just try to equip the most abilities I can get, later realizing that my moves were so weird.
I would argue that Retaliating Slash is great for story game, when in post game content, then not so much.
It's only bad if it a) doesn't properly accomplish its purpose and-or b) interferes/conflicts with other abilities or inflicts with play.
dash is used to cover distance, while roll is for i-frames
Very good video. I agree with all of your points except for the one about berzerk charge. I agree, it can be annoying in some specific cases, but typically, a rapid unrelenting barrage of hits is an astounding health depleter for me. Typically has the same effective ness that Boss hit barrages have on the player. Typically because unlike normal combos, it doesn't give the enemy a chance to do anything but take a beating.
+Koudtah Maple Not to mention mini-games in which you benefit from not having a combo finisher that breaks your flow. I think there was a Mushroom XIII mini-game like that...
***** yep
+Koudtah Maple but the revenge value will overflow and when it's goes immensely over the limit, they'll hit you back
Eventually you will hit the revenge value, probably like 7 horizontal slashes. They can break out very easily.
+contikipaul
Overflow means it hits a value such as 255 and resets to 0 due to not being capped properly.
Lingering Will doesn't have any reaction commands, so auto abilities don't really have any drawbacks.
been playing this to death, good to know this stuff actually. I didn't know a few of these were holding me back. :)
Most bad things you said about retaliating slash are also negative for aerial sweep as well
Like what? Aerial Sweep is only bad because Aerial Drive outclasses it in every way
Sry, i never played that game on english, i didnt meant aerial sweep, i meant aerial recovery
That's mostly not true then, you're not going to cancel your second chance/once more pressing Square if you get hit
Bizkit047 You said in your video that you cancel second chance/once more, yeah, but the same goes for aerial recovery
Its exactly the same only on an other butten :D
ProjectGamer what he meant is, like he says in the video, in a moment of pressure, you may try to dodge roll an attack, but the attack you just as you are pressing the button, and, instead of dodging, you do the retaliating slash.
Wait, Dodge Slash? Maybe I’ve had it dropped a few times, but NEVER against super bosses.
Leon Ryu you can keep terra stuned with 2x negative combo with a certain setup its pretty funny actually
What about Aerial Finish? That move made players a sitting duck for bosses and normal enemies alike.
+MultiGG2 i use it all the time. the damage is heavy and it traps most bosses as long as you don't have too many combo plus abilities.
tails the fox is awsom Wasn't using any combo plus. When in use, there were times that it didn't hit enemies and while a player can't cancel that move once it's activated, gave plenty of time to bosses and norm enemies to attack from the side.
MultiGG2 its preference. i like using it.
I've never had Dodge Slash whiff for me nearly as much as Slapshot. Slapshot more like Slapshit
that ability has killed me more than Dodge Slash ever has. I've unequipped Dodge Slash and equipped Slapshot before and its just awful while also being less damage
(and for the record, I've had Slapshot whiff an enemy while using the Ultima Weapon before, so its not like I'm using a tiny Keyblade)
With the exception of the Auto abilities, I agree. The Auto abilities just fuck you up more often than help.
dodge slash and retaliating slash have always done me justice, so i cant say they're bad.
So I WAS right in completely foregoing dodge slash. I kept thinking "But maybe there's this really neat trick to it?". Guess not.
I’ll never use negative combo and don’t like berserk Critical was still fine but I turned on exp 0 at 99 and Proud on the first game.
Thanks Biz! This really helped a lot!
Can you do another video like this for kh3?
i just want to say that even after all these years, berserk charge and horizontal slash still carries me through lingering will
This may be an odd question, but is there any good way to use Reflect more often?
+ChibiTails I think the normal finisher can whiff against Roxas, since it comes out after Guard Break.
You can loop Roxas through his first phase wit Explosion, so it's actually very useful in his fight
Good video as always Biz. BEAST! "GET OUT!"
another great vid, u should do these more often keep it up man:]
