The Hollywood Reporter is confirming from multiple sources that James Gunn has narrowed down his options for the Superman Legacy cast, including rumors of David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Emma Mackey or Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane! Erik Voss breaks down this casting update, how the casting process has worked for Superman in the past, and why James Gunn is going back to the original Richard Donner Superman the Movie (1978) to learn lessons from the Christopher Reeve Superman!

Hello Eric, could you please pitch a NR episode for Static Shock, and how he might fit in to the DCU? If at all.. it would be cool to see him!
One of the all time best reveals in a super hero movie was Chris Reeve's Clark straightening his back as he's preparing to tell Lois, and it's such an amazing visual transformation and that Reeve managed to slouch and no one noticed until that reveal.
I haven't seen the old superman movies since way back when I was a kid and remember almost nothing from them but this particular scene has been etched in my mind to this very day. It's fantastic!
I have yet to watch that one, but when I was studying acting for animation, my mentor showed us that whole scene and it really was just awesome to watch how he acted as both characters. The fact that it was all done in one take after he was just flying as superman and quickly changed and transformed back into Clark as he was going to pick Lois up for their date was such an awesome thing to see too! That is if I'm thinking of the same scene or if he did it again at some other point haha.
@@erkfx4154 Only Clark is "real" in the scene. Superman flying away is a pre-recorded clip projected on a large screen at the back of the set.
@@DedoPorno I just watched the clip again and dang it's pretty believable that he actually was right there, but with the camera cuts it's entirely possible that you're right.
Loved Christoper Reeve’s portrayal of Superman. My favorite down to this day❤

❤ he always will be Superman. But Cavill was the only good one after Reeve. It should still be his. Reeve looked exactly like Superman. Cavill did also. These guys don’t look anything like them.

I am one of the many that has had a hard time letting go of Henry Cavill as Superman. That being said, if they do a Christopher Reeves style Superman, I am all in.

I am so happy they are looking at David Corenswet. Tbh i was actually surprised because he's been alot of ppl's fancasts, including my own, for a awhile now. Fancasts usually are scoffed at in Hollywood, but on the other hand, it proves that maybe we were all on to something and let's hope he's perfect for the role!
I really like that, casting too. I hope they played Lex Luthor like Gus Fring. Someone who’s respected by the community despite being a calculated maniacal villain
The Snyder and Cavill stans clearly never watched Superman 1978 or any footage of Christopher Reeve. He was the embodiment of Superman, even after his accident

nah it was just a different take on the character sometimes not everything has to be a cookie cutter type👍 now the people who suffered the decade can enjoy a brighter superman 😇

Personally, I would rather see someone older as Lex( maybe it's just me but I always pictured Lex as being older and a generation ahead of Superman) but IF Nicholas Hoult WERE cast as Lex, I'd still support it and yes, David Corenswet would be perfect casting as Superman!

I was not very optimistic about David being Superman because it felt like they were just going for him because he looks like Henry. But you brought out some great points! He does embody that Boy Scout farm boy attitude that’s needed for a happy take on Superman!

I think making a Christopher Reeves type. Superman is so beneficial, cause when you see superman, turn evil, or very emotionally hurt or angry, the impact is greater to the viewer.
Henry Cavill would have been that way had it been that the writers did their research so well on the Clark Kent / Superman character the way Tyler was portraying it.

Agreed. While gotg franchise is completely different than Superman or any of the main justice league characters, what I saw on display was someone who appreciates the characters, studies what makes them work. That brought to DC could be incredible.

When it comes to casting news vs waiting for the movie to judge: Michael Keaton is clearly the best example of why it's important to wait before judgement. Especially with all of the current nostalgia for Michael Keaton s Batman now

I love Christopher Reeves as Superman. It's funny because I got into a debate with a millennial at work about who the top actors to play Superheroes Were and when I told him Christopher Reeves he laughed it off as if he were old and antiquated. He didn't give the older films a chance.

Chris Reeve was the best Superman in my book. I like the others, yet he encompassed what it would be like if someone did come here from elsewhere, had a kind and pure heart and saw our potential, and wished that for us, in spite of our challenges as humans.
Nicholas Hoult would be a great Lex. I think back to him in Skins, he was so cold, smart and manipulative. His character liked to play with people for entertainment. So I could see him doing an epic Lex.
