I'm looking at going tiny, but getting an incinerator type of toilet, something like what's on a yacht. At my age I'd rather just use a vacuum to clean my toilet. All that chirping in the background sounds like you have baby chicks, guessing those bird feeders are a welcome source of food in that area.
Couple follow-up questions on water: 1. Are you still just draining your grey water around fy nyth into the ground? Is that allowed? And how elaborate a french drain (or other type) is needed? 2. Where are you showering? Because I seem to remember you did not use the shower inside fy nyth for anything other than storage??? We are so blessed to live near national forests here in the California Sierra north of Yosemite National Park and harvesting dead growth trees is a win win. We get 'free' wood to cut and we help heal the forest. Want to THANK YOU for showing you have a fire extinguisher on the wall in this video. Everyone should own one, not just we THOW (tiny house on wheels) folks.
Leave the soil? Yes and I agree especially when thought of as a gift to that patch of earth that sustained you for those years. we have 21 monocrystoline solar panels with a 8000 watt inverter we built our 2 story house in the end of our 40x80 shop (barndominium)the solar panels run all the house and shop that includes welder ,4 post heist ,air compresser etc.you just don't run the big stuff on cloudy days

Kris Harbour (a youtuber)uses a creek running through his place for hydro electric & also a wind turbine (beautiful wooden prop he built) and seasonally switches between the two systems. He runs his little hobbit sized house & his shop tools off them. also has a van he switched to run on veg oil - but that's another story... :D

We use a composting toilet! It's the best thing ever I wish I had switched to this many years ago. And I wish everybody used a composting toilet raw sewage is just disgusting and it contaminates our drinking water. You cannot go wrong with composting! We love composting! My husband came home last night & had had a convo with an acquaintance abt a friend of the acquaintance who had problem tenants he had to evict. They decided to exact their revenge by pouring paint into his well contaminating the well & the area’s groundwater. Don’t know what happened to them but at the very least we hope they had to deal with some #InstantKarma 🌀

I just don’t get ppl who do these terrible, at times criminal, things to rentals. Ugh. Have had own nightmares in the quadplex I’ve lived in for 12 yrs; currently the house is filled w/great caring neighbors & I sure hope it stays that way for a looooooong time.✌🏼

Wow I'm Amazed at the stories of how rotten tenants are but the strange thing is I've always been a great tenant but I've had rotten landlords. I've had slumlords not only were they slumlords and didn't fix anything and then would yell at the tenants when things didn't work but they also and I've had about five landlords do this to me come into my house when I wasn't there and the last landlord put cameras up in my house and around the yard to spy on me he was a real creep. This is why I had decided I was never going to rent again and I bought myself some property

I am moving to New York part time with my granddaughter and her husband. They got baby chicks they are raising. He just built the chicken house. They are so thrilled the chicks eat out of their hands they are so tame. No, they will not ever be eaten by us anyway, purely for eggs. They do eat venison however. But it is all very exciting. You must be over the moon. So happy for you always.
Every place is different. Every place is unique. And different and unique places have their own charms and are thus wonderful in their own way. Change is good. It allows one to find and experience the wonder.
An idea for your property for firewood: If you can find varieties that do alright in your growing zone, grow successive plantings of hazel (filbert) trees along a sunny edge, and coppice 1/5th of them every 5 years. If you want nuts as well, you'll need at least 2 varieties of hazel, since they do not self-pollinate within a single variety. Most people don't realize how valuable hazel is as a hardwood for burning in woodstoves, since most people use the slender branches for making into hurdles (wattle-woven fences) and for baskets and such, but it's actually quite good. It responds very well to coppicing, which means cutting it back to the stump (make the cuts cleanly diagonal so they shed rainwater), and allowing new shoots to spring up. Hazel orchards have been managed this way in the British Isles for thousands of years. You'll wind up with nice thick bushes with plenty of firewood opportunities, in small enough chunks that you can just split them in half and they'll probably be a good size for your tiny woodstove. it will take time to build up your stockpile, and it's probably good to mix it with the beetlekill for years to come, but if you can get 2 varieties of hazel to grow in the area, it's worth the effort. And if not hazel, there are other hardwoods which can take well to coppicing. (I'm looking into hazel because I love the nuts and there are varieties that grow even in my area.)

Apparently you have a lot of viewers with anxiety issues...LOL! "Leave no trace" involves *not* hauling away what is part of the land (the soil). But taking the firewood is an improvement to the land because standing dead wood is a fire hazard. I just love the way you have guarded your privacy all these years. I would never have thought just beyond those tress there is a hayfield, or that you had neighbours. It is also great that you kept your purchase guiet because my god people are nosey and are probably looking up land records right now. Keep being a great stweard of the land. I am glad you've also found a human companion, someone you took time to know and someone who brings a lot of skills and know-how to the table. I am not new but never commented much.

Can you talk a little about how friendly Wyoming is towards the tiny house lifestyle regarding zoning in particular? Interesting questions, what is a French drain? Also, isn’t gray water somewhat purified by its traveling through the earth?
french drain is basically a pipe buried in gravel for a drain of unwanted water

Apparently you have a lot of viewers with anxiety issues...LOL! "Leave no trace" involves *not* hauling away what is part of the land (the soil). But taking the firewood is an improvement to the land because standing dead wood is a fire hazard. People need to watch you longer to see what a wise and responsible woman you are (and what a wise man Clay certainly is). Thanks for sharing your journey; I'm enjoying every bit of it!

I just love the way you have guarded your privacy all these years. I would never have thought just beyond those tress there is a hayfield, or that you had neighbours. It is also great that you kept your purchase guiet because my god people are nosey and are probably looking up land records right now. Keep being a great stweard of the land. I am glad you've also found a human companion, someone you took time to know and someone who brings a lot of skills and know-how to the table. I am not new but never commented much.

Cool beans? 😂 My husband & I both use that phrase. When we met in midlife & married he was so surprised to hear me say it bc he’d grown up only hearing the phrase between he & his brother like a family secret.
