Man Seph, gotta tell you brother you're really making me relive my musical life. And I love you for it. Madonna was literally the female equivalent of MJ in the early 80s. No one was bigger than those two. Everytime I hear this song I'm transported back to my 7 year old self dancing in the living with my 11 year old sister. Everyone is nostalgic of their youth but I have to say there really was nothing like being a kid in the 80's.
@@yp8152they were big but MJ and Madonna were a whole other level, Madonna had the insane longevity too, she was having huge selling albums in her late 40s/early 50s
Most people failed to see, or just blatantly decided to overlook, the real message of the video and took the lyrics quite literally. And she's STILL called the Material Girl in every story written about her. Because of this, she grew to really dislike performing the song and has often done a very mocking take of it on her various tours.
Yes... it's a little annoying that people don't get it. That the character that the star is playing in the video says she's a material girl but the star really isn't that type of girl. I mean, it's pretty straightforward as a plot and how it's executed.
Hey I love your energy/ excitement. When u watch back..you had a few second delay on seeing video. Decades later I'm still amazed how one line that changes the game is overlooked by millions. She says..i think it's real. DO YOU Want It- Done in first minute that ties into daisy's and guy buying old truck. She really never was impressed by it- hence the end story. Great watching you enjoy her. It's a song about being material girl. It stuck to this day but the message got so lost. Think about it folks. And yes she is beautiful
Madonna - Gambler is her finest track from this era in my opinion. Real power play from the film Vision Quest. Madonna Angel is her at her prettiest for me. Live to Tell at her most delicate.
In the Virgin Tour her first tour when she sings this song she says I don't need money but love, and at the beginning of the video when she talks about the necklace on the phone she asks if they want it as a gift because she doesn't care
Ppl took her serious when this came out. But she said ppl should listen to the lyrics. She was being ironic and tongue in cheek about it. She came to NY in 1979 without a friend or a place to go and with only $37 in her pocket to study dance. And 6 years later through hard work, street smarts, talent and a drive and ambition second to no one she slowly worked her way up and exploded like a nuclear bomb on the consciousness of this world. She didn't give a flying fuck what anyone said or thought and did things her own way and changed popular culture and modern consciousness in the process. She is a bad ass bitch and you couldn't fuck with her if you tried. Icon. Biggest selling female artist of all time. $1.5 billion in ticket sales alone. Second to only The Beatles in worldwide record sales etc etc. Love yr reactions. Do Papa dont Preach or La Isla Bonita next. You got 4 decades of brilliance to catch up with. Good luck.j
It's so much fun to watch your reaction, you're having the best time! I remember being a kid and seeing this video and I was just like you, she was the prettiest girl and all of us girls wanted to be just like her!
In the video Madonna is actually saying she IS NOT materialistic at all. The "material aspect" of her life is only what people get to see in the spot light, but back stage in "real life" she appreciate simple things like flowers for example. That is why at the end she went for the guy with the flowers and the old truck.

Apparently she is better now, she was hospitalized. Her friends feared she would end up like MJ because she wants to compete with young artists like Taylor Swift. In fact she spent 12 hours a day preparing the tour that was due to start on July 14th
Madonna is not weak enough to feel she has to compete with Swift for Christ’s sake, no one of Madonna’s statue is threatened by that overrated twat. She is and always has been a perfectionist in her stage show’s, and works her ass off to put in the best show.
A lot of fun in this reaction!!! Madonna has often remarked that the song was a joke. Her friends say she is the least materialistic person they know. Also, she didn't write this one and it's one of the ones she says was important for her career but she wishes she didn't record. Madonna recently recorded a new repetitive version with a drag artist. I'll stick to the original lol
Madonna is being ironic in this song and she is actually saying I’m not a Material Girl. No one got the humor and irony in the song and she was nicknamed The Material Girl for the rest of her life

Madonna intended this song and music video to be ironic.
