The vita is still a totally "worth it" purchase even today. I mean the switch is now getting games like Lacrimosa of Dana and it's being raved about but it's a port from vita. I love Zelda to death and always will but I love Uncharted and Metal Gear too. Now I say this to say that the system is still worth purchasing, not to say it's better than the switch. I don't own a switch yet but i'm pretty sure once it hits the 200 mark with a few game bundle, i'm pretty sure i'll be buying it.
