I loved this experience I got my first gold medal in 2011 for the sport of swimming and I met Olympian Ryan Lochte in 2012 2013 and saw him again in 2018 2019 2020 and 2021 in Gainesville awesome guy and has grown up since Rio amazing county can’t wait to go back but winning the first gold medal was special.

am i the only one that finds the term 'special olympics' a bit offensive? lol or am i too sensitive?

I don't try to define these so called intellectual disabilities! Now you can go to the Special Olympics website, & you can then read the rule books on the sports of the Special Olympics, then carefully research the videos that have been done about how the Special Olympics sports have been done, & then you will know exactly what I have been talking about!

So I ask you then what is Special Olympics? Is it just a collection of sports that is offered year round for people with intellectual disabilities just to give them something to do? How do you define it based on the 'research' you have done? Also if some of the research articles you looked into are online, would you mind sharing some of those links with me? I am not going to criticize you about the articles, I just would like to read them.

Get this straight, & that is that I have not been deceived about anything that I have said about the Special Olympics, because I have carefully researched it! Now I have taken all of what everyone has told me about the Special Olympics with a grain of salt, because I was open to reading up, as well as watching videos on it! No I am not frustrated about anything involving Special Olympics, I am irritated about everything involving the Special Olympics, because all of is an outright lie!

I am tired of these derogatory comments too but name calling, cursing, and wishing Armageddon upon someone because of those comments isn't what the spirit of Special Olympics is about. My last reply wasn't just about the comment 6 months ago but some of your other comments too. I definitely want you to defend Special Olympics and debate against those who threaten or make fun of it, but try to avoid being tempted to make destructive counter points in your future debates with these individuals.

There is no need for that. As a representative of Special Olympics you serve as a role model and using phrases such as "go to hell" will not only show how frustrated you are with a disagreeable individual but will likely to lead to misinterpretations of what a member of Special Olympics is really like.

I pity you, especially in being deceived by that one person and also receiving so much destructive criticism. In my experiences with Special Olympics as an athlete, coach volunteer, Purdue senior, and advocate there is almost no grounds as to what that someone has said to you. Special Olympics is more than just a collection of sports and I will be happy to tell you why if you can lend me an open mind. After which you can just take it with a grain of salt or ask more questions.

Now I will tell you this, and that is the only reason that is legitimate to modify the rules of any sport is because of someone being in a wheelchair, and that is a fact! Now I will tell you that I was at the Special Olympics in person when I volunteered, and I am not making up anything that I saw, and that was that they had events in swimming that were not, and are not legitimate! When someone asked me why don't I get involved in Special Olympics, because I was told that I could win a gold medal, and I got completely enraged about being asked!
