Fabulous! My octave mando (well, four course bouzouki) is tuned GDAD, are you using GDAE? If you have tab for this, I’d love a copy, if you don’t mind.
Yep! Standard GDAE. I’m pretty much just playing chords and finding runs that fill the space between them. I’ve been playing it on octave mandolin about four years now, so I don’t really think about the “arrangement” so to speak. If you look up my “Mary Did You Know? Tuesday Tunes” from 2020 I’m sure you’ll find a lot of little differences. I’d be more than happy to email you a screenshot of what I’m using for any of my songs.
Ps. I’m only going straight through the mic here/no pedalboard. I’ve played at this venue every year for a while, so I knew they could handle it. The pedalboard gives you more options to fall back on if you don’t have a proper soundcheck or if you have to run much of your own sound.
@@JacobHeadMusic one of the places I play has the Behringer X32 mixer which allows effects per channel and per scene, so I can tell the sound guy that I want a touch of chorus on the guitar and a little reverb on my voice so I don't need my pedal board there for most things. And I trust the sound person to do a good job on adjusting things better than I would :)
Great idea with the five wireless transmitters, but does that mean you have four receivers you don’t use? Have you tried using MIDI to tell pedals which instrument you’re using? Do you just go DI to PA/FOH? What are you using at home for listening while rehearsing? And great pedal choices! I’ve got the PlayLive Acoustic, and got the HoF v2x4 for Christmas :) I use the Boss EQ-200 and an HX Stomp for everything else … so totally MIDI-able :) And I can’t afford the LR Baggs venue, but I got a great deal on the NUX Optima Air (acoustic IR) pedal, which I’m waiting to add in at some point instead of the Venue/VoicePrint.
You can buy the transmitters separately. So I think I have five transmitters and two receivers, in case I want to run acoustic and electric rigs simultaneously. I’ve never really dug much into MIDI, but that sounds like it would be useful. I don’t really use this rig much at home when recording- mainly run mics straight into an interface and edit in post. At church, where I use this most often and consistently, yes, I’m just running directly into the PA. From the PA I send two mixes for left and right channels for my in ear monitors. Then I can mix myself according. I’ve tweaked little things since this video, but the gist of this board setup hasn’t changed. I run effects only on the pickups now though. That way if the mic is open at a show where someone is speaking or there are other instruments, you don’t accidentally get unwanted effects Lol.
@@JacobHeadMusic Yes, I've heard people talking to the audience/congregation with a ton of reverb on!
This is so beautiful! Thank you and Merry Christmas
Thank you so much! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Reminds me of Battles
Great tone you are getting out of your mandolin. Is it a northfield?
@@beckydampier8805 this is an octave mandolin, a bit larger of an instrument than the standard mandolin and a full octave lower. Unfortunately Northfield doesn’t make an F-style octave. This is a brand called Micawber. You can hear my Northfield octave and mandolins in many of my other videos!
Nailed it. Great vocals! Now I want want of those octave mandolins.
Get one! They are great!
Lovely ❤
You do good on this song

@@DLP8485 hi!
Hi
Spiritual voice to match the spiritual song!
@@drpreposterous1 thank you!
Good job
Just beautiful. How is it tuned?
Awesome!
Thank you so much!
Dude that's awesome!
How do you get front row at this venue? Does vip go in early?
I got there early, but not ahead of everyone else. When I got there, best I remember, most were just standing around talking or drinking. I went up to the stage maybe 15 or 20 minutes before it started and stood on the rail. I think it also made a difference that most everyone there were there to see Cory, rather than Sierra. Most had no idea who she was.
Awesome, Jacob! This is a very special song written by a special person. Your performance was right on. Thanks for sharing this special moment.
Thanks! I sang this in 2021 at grandma’s funeral with Sierra’s blessing. My grandma loved her gardening and her birds. This performance here was on the 1-year-anniversary of her passing, performed for special music at my church where I lead worship.
Sounds real good! A big fan of Ghostbusters! Love this! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Good job Bubba. Sounds great. No one could steer me right but Mama Tried Mama Tried.
Thanks!
Hi
five stringsss??
Yep! A Dahlia 5 made by Acoustic Electric Strings.
I’ve seen a lot of people dealing with a whine/hiss sounding coming from the pedal when used with other pedals, when it’s powered separately and when it’s used with other pedals. Have you had a noise issue like this? If so, how did you fix it? Thank you 🙏🏽 I’m hoping I don’t have to return my pedal and that I can solve this issue.
I did notice that positioning made a difference a couple years ago, so I had to be careful as to which pedals I placed near the power strip. I still did get some low white noise for a while after that, but eventually set a really low gate on the TC Helicon and now it’s no longer a problem.
Sheet music?
Send me your email and I will forward to you what I have. I forget where I found it, but it’s just a screenshot of that section.
Were you able to send?
@@JacobHeadMusicThanks, man!
@jacobheadmusic you sound fantastic! Are you able to send me the sheet music you have as well?
@@andrianamarkano1903 he never responded to me, but if you search 'Callin Baton Rouge Fiddle Lesson,' there's a few on there that helped me.
Lovely
I’m interested that you run a mic into the Venue. How close do you need the Ear Trumpet from the instrument? Natural Sound is the best.
The voice print is excellent I no longer use the venue.
It’s a great pedal. The Venue just serves as an EQ for my microphones now.
😃
Impressive
Thank you!

Jacob can you do a tutorial on the mandolin solo in "Go Rest High"? By the way execellent job!

Great singing and playing!
Thank you!
Just found your stuff based on your pedal board overview video. If we lived in the same area, I’d say we should jam! I’m into mando/fiddle/guitar too. I’m guessing you’re not near Richmond VA?
I love cash! Great job 🎉
Legend.
I have the same Pango Afanti,I tuned as a Mandola w/ Mandola strings and sounded great.Using light gauge Mandola strings.zIm going 432 hz..So it’s 20”scale Mandola to me.
Sounds cool! I’m now using the set that Northfield puts together for their archtop octave mandolin on this octave as well.
Great video! I play mandolin, and I’m thinking about what pedals to get for playing live. I’m trying to decide between the LR Baggs Venue DI or the Toneprint DI. Since you’ve used both with mandolin, which would you recommend?
If you’re just using one for your pickups- the VoicePrint would be my recommendation.
This is the guy who taught me to play the guitar and this is the first song we worked on
I took music lessons from Jacob but unfortunately I was unable to continue the lessons because of school and I just wanted to say that if you read this Jacob, I miss our lessons and I want to say hey.
Thanks for saying hey!
So cute!
great rundown. How are you compensating for feedback with a condenser on stage? Are their venues where you just cannot use a condensor?
That’s a great question. I think the first motivation to build this setup was because I’d be using only a condenser and couldn’t quite get the volume that I wanted before feedback. It also meant that where I stood was crucial to exactly what tone I got. So I started brainstorming on how I could include signal from the pickup to give me that extra volume and consistency. With this setup, I have control over the volume for both the pickup and mic signals independently. That allow me to tweak things in a pinch if I feel like feedback is a problem. I also utilize a Beyerdynamic M 201 TG, which is a dynamic mic that I really like when I want that condenser type quality without as much susceptibility to feedback. I’ve used it straight into my amp at Farmers Market gigs and it has given me plenty of volume. But again, positioning makes a difference in terms of tone/volume if you’re only using a mic on a stand.
Great performance. Just discovered Sierra.
PROOF THAT THERE IS REINCARNATION. 😆 THIS KID WAS HERE BEFORE.
What a great riff! I should try & figure it out on my octave mando! (Also, just curious, do you wear hearing aids, too? If you do, what kind are they? I have Phonak Naida Q70UPs, for my profound loss, & I -should- wear mine so much more than I do, haha!)
I wore Starkey Sequels for a little over 20 years (from 2003, when I was 12 until last year). Last summer I got Starkey Evolv AI 2400s. I like them well enough, but there are still a lot of differences between digital and analog technology that I had to get used to. I’ve worn hearing aids since I was five years old, but having the same aids for 20 years made it difficult to transition to new ones. Sorry I’m just now seeing this. Would love to talk more if you’d like to email me: jacobheadmusic@yahoo.com
