Making of a large log torch also known as a Swedish log torch or Finnish log torch.
I decided to make log torches from a dead spruce tree. Spruce was optimal wood for this project. When burning, sparks emanate from the spruce, which increases the looks of the candle. I used a chainsaw to make log candles.
I tried sawing some of the logs with only two crosscuts, but they didn't burn as well. Two crosscuts may work better with smaller diameter logs. At the base of the log, I left about 8 to 10 inches unsawn to keep the torch together. An alternative way would be to drill a hole in the center of the candle, but I think candles made by sawing look more spectacular. In addition, drilling such large candles would be difficult.
The burning time of the candle was about 1.5 hours, ...

Homemade red paint. A traditional paint from natural materials.
Просмотров 1208 месяцев назад
I decided to make traditional red paint. The paint is more widely known as Swedish red paint or Falu Red paint. This homemade paint is excellent alternative to acrylic or latex paints. The making of red paint is simple, and it is made from natural materials: water, flour, iron sulfate, red iron oxide and varnish (boiled linseed oil). Recipe for 10 litres 8 l water 0,6 kg iron sulfate 0,8 kg rye...
Building and Decorating Wooden Christmas trees
Просмотров 7 тыс.9 месяцев назад
This wooden Christmas tree was quite simple to build, and I only needed to make 30-degree cuts. I mainly used a table saw and a cordless drill to help with the build. The height of the tree (without stand) is about 18 inches, and the width of the lowest part is just under 15 inches. I used barn wood (pine) in this Christmas tree project, and I also tested different types of lights and decoratio...

First harvest in decades, vintage thresher at work
Просмотров 167Год назад
The old threshing machine had been forgotten in storage for decades. We dug out the machine and tested whether the machine could still work and whether it could still be used to thresh barley. Feeding grain by hand is a risk to occupational safety and the machine does not have an emergency stop mechanism. We need to develop a safer technique to feed grain into it. On the whole, the threshing of...

It must be admitted that the effect is amazing. Please tell what kind of rye flour should i choose: fine flour or wholemeal flour? Does it have to be boiled linseed oil or can I use uncooked oil? Can be wood painted with hot paint or iz needed to wait until paint cools down and are there any differences between the two ways? If I don't use all paint up, can I preserve it somehow?

You just lost a lot of seeds by using that kind of cutting method and storing method. You are also risking dangerous molds to grow on those seeds! By the way, that is just how that winter barely grows. It is short. Unlike traditional heirloom varieties.

Some of that looks like winter barley, very short, will out yield most small grains, spring barley is taller and lower yields
