    I think your review, of course it is your personal view , but anyway a bit too unilateral. The k1600 is far more expensive and heavy. They even put a rear gang on the 1600 to move it! So finaly the k1600gt is a highway bike for me, you don't need that much power on secondary roads, and again the price of the thing, waow. But the r1250rt is far more handy on secondary roads and on mountainroads. I live in the Austrian mountains (Tyrol) and I switched after two 1200 GSA's (each good for about 100.000km) to a 1200 RTLC in 2015 (80.000km) that I again swithed for 1250 RT in 2022. I travel with my wife with the bike and luggage and this bike is far more a travel bike then a GS. You don't need a 19 inch front wheel when you stay on the roads and the autonomie of less than 300km is to low for us when we travel through the Alps. Of course with a GSA that autonomie problem is solved but the R1250rt is not so "top heavy" as the GS adventure and has more lugage capacity and give us more wind and rain protection. Last summer on a Italian higway during a heavy rainfall we saw all adventure bikes( KTM, BMW GS, Duc's) leaving to the safety of gasstations because they hadn't any visiblity anymore with their poor protections and little screens. With the r1250rt and an accurate setting of the RT's windscreen, I had nearly no rain on the helmet visor and could travel further. Above 30 kmh you dont get any rain on your cloths even. So finaly my conclusion is that the R1250Rt is certainly not a compromise bike. It is a super long travel bike made for secondary roads and with highway capacity. regards

      @@RRGS78 Yes of course it's all personal view and feeling. But a lot of people buy GS and GSA just for the look without considering the future use of it. and again this is not a problem since we live in a free world. until yet. I travelled with GSA 's as long as I used to occasionally quit the asphalt for the gravel. But once I discovered that a 17 front wheel is far more manageable on mountain roads and in short turns I switched for the RT. The GSA 1200 (oilcooled) was top heavy when full tanked and missed weight on the front wheel when half filled or less especially on relay runs on highways. always filled upfull capacity before driving up the highway and with speeds 100 kmh and more ( deutsche autobahn is unlimited) . The center of gravity of the r1250rt ( and R1200rtlc) is much lower and that results in a more steady and stable bike, never that floating feeling whatever the filling grade of the fuel tank is. I wonder about the new R1300gsa, must test it in a few weeks if wheather and snow allows me that here. Regards

    Thank you Ross! You have helped me make up my mind to buy the C400GT. As an ex Brit now living in Aus, I sold my last bike a couple of years ago, a Kawasaki Z900RS. Beautiful bike but (I'm ancient at 67) would give me backaches after any longer ride. So, now looking for something much more comfortable and cheaper to run. Have looked at a Vespa 300GTS SuperSport, the Yamaha X-Max 300 and the Honda Forza 350. Why a scooter? Just got back from a month in Italy and they were everywhere. Because they are practical for zipping around and easy to use. Like your channel and have subscribed, keep up the good work 😊

    I have one, bought about two years ago biking 40+ years and never had a scooter never even sat in one and love it. When I got it I had three different iterations of the GS but earlier this year swapped them for an RT. I think it’s wrong to say it’s just a bit of a commuter or town bike my wife goes on the pillion and it sits easily at motorway speeds or more, it tops out at over 90mph. They are expensive but I bought a two year old with 300 miles for a bit under five thousand. Rack with expandable Shad box and can easily take two on a tour or a day out. I ride it all year, use it a a second car. Finally it’s not a moped in any sense.

    I was travelling through Gatwick with my daughter because I’m travelling, I wear a plastic belt this works great until you meet the little prick. Take your belt off sir. Don’t worry it’s Plastic. Please take your belt off. Belt is actually part of the jeans if I take the belt off, I would have to separate the clip that means I couldn’t put my belt back on so you can see it’s Plastic. Are you refusing to take your belt off? No, I’m not if you want. I’ll take my trousers down and you can put those through the machine if you want. At this point, the supervisor came over and told the prick to let me through.. A few steps later, my daughter turned to me and said that was cool … I don’t advocate being horrible to custom guards but sometimes they can be dicks.

    I wore my armoured jeans on a journey out to spain where we were renting bikes out there and picking them up at the airport at the other side. Same- scanner picked up two large anomalies on my knees under the jeans so- Dropped my kecks in front of everyone in the queue to show my armour in knees wasn’t a couple of Kgs of whatever. They let me through pretty quickly after that.

    Very enjoyable review. I am tempted with an XR after owning 2 GS and currently on a 1250 GSA. I fancy a change and the XR is an itch I may need to scratch. I am torn between the M1000XR and an s1000XR TE with the M Package. the benefit of the later is that you can attach luggage which you can't on the 'M1000XR. I know I don't need 205bhp and the 170bhp S1000XR is more that enough but can't help loving the idea of the 'M'...

    • @RRGS78
      @RRGS78 10 дней назад

      Thank you for your comment! I will say having reviewed the M1000xr, the S1000rr and the s1000r, they all have significantly less torque than the r1300gs. Now I do love the m1000xr, but I think you are right about the luggage! My issue with all the 4 pot 1000cc bikes is the power is just too high up in the rev range. But I do feel your pain about being torn!! Would be great if you’d consider subscribing!

    Nice video! I have the rs1250 and as a short rider it is a much lower seat height than the standard gs 1250. Where I live we have lots of twisty roads and the bike is very nimble and light and with the correct windscreen a pleasure to ride long distances. I do agree that most folks would be better off on the gs 1250 because it’s a general purpose all around good bike. But if you want more of a traditional sport ride with all the luxury that the Suzuki or Yamaha or Kawasaki don’t have then the rs 1250 is a great motorcycle! Cheers!

    I have a 2023 RS 1250 and I love this bike. Just a couple of points to make the windscreen is adjustable you need to pull it up by those rails on the side. My bike has the tubular bars like the one you have and those are said to be more comfortable but I wonder if you would have had a different experience with the lower bars. Another point is that the Sport Touring market is a difficult market and as you know not many bikes in this segment are made anymore due to the Adventure market. With that said, Sport Touring riders have always been hard to satisfy, I think due to the nature of the bike. BMW does make a heavy Sport Touring bike and that is appreciated when you are on the road and the wind is not blowing you around. Also the bike is nimble not only for it's weight but it is very nimble because of the design of the bike. I ride around town easy and can maneuver it around the garage and parking spaces. I think the bike makes sense because it is so different from the GS which is a very good bike. One person said that the RS is a "gentleman's" sport bike. And you are correct all of the components are quality parts and finally there is no real competitor to this bike because the sport touring market has shrunk. Back in the day you had the Ducati ST 4 which I had and it was a Sport Touring bike. But this is just my perspective. Thanks

    • @RRGS78
      @RRGS78 20 дней назад

      Thank you for your very well considered comment, its much appreciated. Im glad you love yours, and you are right this market has definitely shrunk. i tested the 1250 GS and 1250 R : i don`t understand the hype about the GS ??? most GS- drivers will never go on gravel or off road, and the soft chopper-feeling on it is no pleasure at all. the R model is fun, but a moped in size... i often drive on narrow twisty roads and i really enjoy the RS ! when some comments argue the less sportyness or agillity, the they should improve their rider skills first i think...

    • @RRGS78
      @RRGS78 23 дня назад

      I would say the hype is fair about the GS. The RS is a great bike, but just not for me...now if the brought an 'S' out like before that would be a bike! Why not do as I did and buy a real Kymco like the AK550 Premium made in Philipines for Australia or Taiwan for UK market. Yes, BMW had the older C600 and C650GT scooters made by Kymco. They just charged the unwary: extra wallet emptier fees for the Chinese made BMW badges to go on it. LOL Love both my Kymcos: the AK550 and the smaller big wheeled Agility 300. I'd have to agree the music is not relevant. It would be great if people understand the character of a bike in each of its gears. Away from standstill and around a carpark in 1st but if the goal is the find conditions where top gear works we miss the world going by. Noticed you pick a gear and stayed with it in the lanes. I'm not interested in going round and round on smooth tarmac but I don't avoid a good roundabout. Choosing the wrong machine based on what anyone else thinks is probably the worst crime against yourself. If it makes you happy it's right for you. Happy days from sunny Devon.

    A used bike warranty is worthless. A service history is easy to fake. Wouldn't take anyone's word for anything if they are trying to sell something. It is what it is. It's not fair to expect anyone to know the life a used bike has had outside their own workshop. This year I bought a £7500 Harley that's 25 years old. Looking it over I figured £2k just to get it up to where I wanted it to be. The salesman didn't like it being described as a project bike when the ad said very good condition. We were a long way apart on the description, the full service history I knew was not related to the one on sale, eBay with the first service being before the date of first registration. The only thing I really didn't like was the plumbers tape and no threads left in the sump as they had done the last oil service. I declined a test ride. It was what I would call unsafe but they gave it a clean MOT. Been biking for 45 years and do my own work, got a factory WSM and buy the best parts and good tools. Harley owners are notoriously cheap, don't be surprised by anything you find. I'm fine with what I paid, it's better value than buying new and finding everything that needs fixing.

    2180 miles? Maybe the gearbox needs more time to run in? Haven’t ridden one yet but I hear a lot of people say the gearbox was stiff and lucky at first but got better with more mileage.

    I'm on my 2nd GS but being a 5'9 short arse I've always had my eyes on the RS because it seems a wee bit lower. But when I tried one, like you, in Bristol it left me cold. The RT is just too bulbous so that's out. If my GS was stolen today though I'd probably go for the 1250 R which when I sat on one is the identical seating position as the GS but a lot lower and manageable for me. I've seen them with hard panniers and touring screens so I'd definitely have a good think. The trouble is, the GS is an impossible act to follow imo.

    The last two bikes I purchased outright for cash, was over the phone / email. I’m really not interested in a salesman’s opinion, I’ve done my research and spoken with current owners. The salesman is there to facilitate the best deal on the sale / with any add ons or future servicing. I’m past 60 and I’ve been buying bikes for nearly 50 years, things change. The real acid test of a good dealer is the response of a service manager when issues crop up, are they supportive or not, will they undertake work quickly or not?

    Just bought a nearly new bike from my local dealer. They sold it with just having a major service which included an air filter change. As I was adding new extras, I took the tank off to run wires so thought I would check the air box. Filter was old and filthy, as usual you just can’t trust dealers which is why I do all my own servicing. 😊

    gotta agree with you again mate, its a rabid, uncouth, and fast thing if you wring its neck, like no other GS ive owned. Reminds me of my 1000cc bikes of old, in so much as thrash through a couple of gears/three gears (it happens quickly) and you need to shave 40mph off the speedo to get back to the national limit.

    Wow! I am surprised there aren’t more views/comments yet. I don’t care so much about the salesman. If I go to get a bike, I already know what I need. Like you said, they’re there for the paperwork at that point. That said, the general decrease in passion/knowledge about the bikes is not very confidence-inspiring(?). It’s something. My despair (I meant to use that word) is concerning “service-after-the-sale” and the Service Departments of these places. In that area, you’re spot on: it isn’t an automobile, the first of many differences being that a bike only has two wheels and we darn sure need them both. My most recent interaction with a service department consisted partly of a suspension adjustment screw, from the factory, that clearly had a problem. It was sunk down much more than the others, but was rotated out the same amount as the other 3. It was visibly a problem and not at all Suzuki design. The adjusters were flush when I got the bike back. At home I messed with it and found that the service tech had just turned that fork to full hard compression damping. It rotated out and became flush with the others that were still in the middle of their range. Those adjusters may get a little more attention than they should, but they’re far from a gimmick. What kind of person cares that little about another’s safety and/or why is that dealership allowing a person that doesn’t know or doesn’t care why those adjusters can be important. Not the type of worries I want on my mind while trying to have a good time on my bike. Sorry 4 the novel.

    There seems to be a real genuine disinterest with motorcycle salesmen like no other salesmen out there. Perhaps they're just so use to the customer knowing everything and so they don't need to work with the public or look stupid because they know less? Whatever the case, it's weird they don't just connect to people without even talking about motorcycles. To me, why do business if there's no relationship? I'd rather buy a bike off Amazon or some sketchy guy in a back alley.

    Trail of ~115mm where most bikes are ~100mm. Head angle of ~61deg where most other bikes are ~65deg. I have no idea why BMW decided to make a sport bike only to design it such that it could not be sporty. All the other "R" models are more sporty then the RS. I hope they have a rethink with regards to the goals of the RS when creating the R1300RS.
