I took this video not long before buying the car. Sometimes I still dream about driving it, and especially sitting in the seats!
What's the least unique car GM ever made?

It's interesting to see the similarities between the first- and second-gen H-body vehicles. As a former 2nd-gen H-body owner, I found a lot of things quite familiar.

Another H-body, like the Eighty Eight from earlier. The Bonneville got great reviews from the motoring press when it was new.

AWD, 320hp, V8 sedan; not bad. Nice colour combination, too.

It's not often you get to visit your old car's grave... This is genuinely one of the best cars I've ever owned; second only to the Mercedes 190 E. That said, it's the most comfortable by a long shot.

This was actually a really nice car, especially on the inside. And it only had 125,000 kms! Apart from surface rust, it seemed to be in really good shape; way too nice to end up in a junkyard. In fact, if it had been on the market instead, I might've bought it. PS: Spot the Olds 88 behind it; that car will feature in the next video.

I liked this car. Yes, old Cadillacs have their flaws (like the gutless engines), but they have the kind of style and comfort that today's cars will never have.

Comfortable and classy, unlike today's cars. These GM C/H-bodies are really nice. I'd definitely buy one.
Knight Rider Display at Auckland Sky Tower

I got a nice surprise when I visited Auckland in September 2022: Getting to see a display of 3 KITT replicas to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Knight Rider. Funny enough, 2 of the replicas came from Christchurch. One of them is used as a fundraiser for Child Cancer NZ; you can find it on Facebook: kittforkids/. I grew up watching the re-runs in the early 2000s, so this was quite...

Not everything went to plan when I filmed my walkaround video. Here are the faux pas I made during filming. The music is "Floaters" by Jimmy Fontanez, found in the RUclips Audio Library. You might recognise it from the channel Technology Connections.

Changing the brake light on a VW Transporter TD5
Agree 100%
My first car was a ‘95 Olds Eighty Eight Royale. Loved that car!
He proved those dorks at TFL wrong.
A buddy bought a running 1995 Olds 88 a few weeks back here in America for only $300 bucks.
Sweet deal! I had a '96 Olds 88 when I was in Canada; it was definitely my favourite out of all the cars I've owned. Super comfy, incredibly reliable.
I feel like the GMT360 platform is the same way. the Chevy TrailBlazer, Buick Ranier, Isuzu Ascender, Oldsmobile Bravada, and the Saab 9-7x were all the exact same car. the inside and outside on all except the Bravada and 9-7x were practically interchangeable, same 4.2 6 cylinder in all models. although I feel those are more in line with the A body cars than the vans lol
GMC envoy too
GM was very lazy when it came to not having their entire lineup not look the same in some way
Gmt 360 platform... Chevy trailblazer, GMC envoy, Oldsmobile bravada, Buick Rainer, Isuzu Ascender, Saab 9-7, all the same platform, all with either a base 4.2 inline 6 or a 5.3/6.0 LS V8, 4 speed auto, with in a 6 year period. While not exactly identical on the exterior, mechanically the same car in a nutshell
Tfl is the worst automotive channel out there. They've tried to buy two of my cars
Great video, I hope you become more popular, you deserve it, and you provide an informative and entertaining video without all of the bs.
Thank you very much; I really appreciate the compliments. I try to be as neutral as possible, which is why I was so hard on some of my favourite cars in this video.
For some reason, I want a Chevy Uplander.
Worst or best?
Not enough people talk about the Chevrolet Uplander. I bought one off my college roommate for $250. I didn’t even know what it was. Neither did he. The badge fell off. One of the laziest badge engineering examples of all time. Montana, Terraza, Relay… is that it? Change the front bumper a bit, maybe give it leather, send it out. Terrible, boring, uninspiring car. Awful. Pretty dependable though.
I am a huge fan of the A body platform. Specially on the Oldsmobile version. Have owned multiple of them and they were nothing but great, dependable and comfortable ride that always took me where I needed to go. Including remote areas in northen Canadian winter.
There was also an Oldsmobile rebadge but I believe that was part of the second generation
Those cars were super easy to steal. You could steal them the exact way Kia boys steal Kias, you'll just have to break the steering lock. That could happen by turning the wheel side to side with a lil force.
The Uplander predecessor Chevy Venture was sold as Opel/Vauxhall Sintra in Europe
It would be kinda neat to import a Sintra over to North America, honestly.
@@christopherpotomski8463 Don't need to, just get the front bumper and you'll have one lol
1:24 / 1:37 / 1:44 Bruckell LeGran - beamng drive some of the othe cars in this video- are ones, every beamng player dreams of having in game
Yep, I get the feeling there's an Olds fan in the Beamng dev team; they've got a Toronado lookalike as well.
@SomethingAboutCars these so few modern cars, but infinite choices in garbage old cars.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Were the A-body station wagon models actually introduced for 1984? If memory serves, this allowed for the phase out of the rear drive mid size wagons like the Malibu and others. Sorry about the nit picking.
Indeed you're right; I overlooked that fact.
GM was the master of making the same car but different. Chevy was their entry level. Pontiac was affordable performance. Buick affordable luxury. Oldsmobile the bankers hot but later they were the ones developing the tech and fighting the imports. As for the Cutlass ciera against the Chevy celebrity. Oldsmobile had a nice velour interior versus Chevy's cloth. Oldsmobile was featured in Fargo. Where it was a luxurious front-wheel drive snow tractor.. the Cierra was a really good seller for GM.
4 rebadges. A Chevy, A Pontiac, A Saturn, A Buick. I think there was a fifth one too. The first two are the ones I commonly see.
Maybe it was a dodge?
I think there was an Isuzu variant
The fifth one would have been the Oldsmobile version, but that would be the earlier U-Body platform from 1997-2004. Oldsmobile was killed off in 2004, so the Buick Terraza came out as the next generation of GM's luxury minivan.
The previous gen U body also had a Oldsmobile variant. It was dead by time the 4th gen came out.
Nobody in this comment section has any clue what their talking about
Next can you do a video on the Chevy trailblazer and its platform mates?
On the C platform- did that not include the Cadillac Sedan de Ville? My dad had an '86, then an '88 and it looked very similar to my uncle's Olds 98.
You're right; it did include the Caddy, although some variants had a longer wheelbase, and they had the Cadillac V8 rather than the Buick V6. That's why I didn't include the Cadillac versions in the video.
those cars look different to me.
Very well done video, with no hype or dramatics. With just information on the cars, it is a pleasant change from other Y.T. providers that rely on Schtick. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
My mom still drives the Chevy uplander. Out of all the rebadges the Pontiac Montana aged the best.
I personally think the Relay looks pretty decent. The Buick is cartoonish and awful though. Uplander and Montana, they’re fine…
Personally to me GM's least unique car has to be the W body 1997-2006? Buick Century since its body is shared with the Buick Regal but the Regal you can get the 3800 V6 and the Supercharged variant all the Century had was the 3.4L and given this is a W Body pretty much everything but the body is shared with the Monte Carlo, Impala, Grand Prix, and Intrigue, but those cars have optional engines among other little details too such as the Heads Up Displays on the Grand Prix and they all have very unique styling, the Boxy Lines of the Monte Carlo, the big taillight of the Impala, the Grand Prix' aggression, and the grillless look of the Intrigue. When you factor all of these in the Century comes off as boring with nothing special about it
Good video. That was some great editing and footage. You should do more. It is nice to see someone explain the differences and share the differences. There were some clones over the years too. I liked the fact you mentioned the C and H Bodies. The E /K and N Bodies of the 1986-1991 era that is another story. They did look like each other.
Let's NOT put on rose colored glasses the a -body FWD cars were terrible....and I'm a gm guy....
Now it does depend if you're talking RWD or FWD, the RWD that's your Chevelle, Cutlass, LeMans, and whatever Buick is doing the RWD is very well loved and the RWD G Body was called the A body into 1982 when they use the A body code for their FWD sedans. I theorize they do this when they expect it to sell well
I am also a gm guy, and while the early ones suffered, by the late 80s all the kinks were pretty much worked out and you had a pretty decent car for the money... ive owned 90 century and a 92 ciera... both with the 3300.. excellent cars that are easy to work on and live with, they were just dated when they came out
@thesam19841 and Dated was the problem.... they were uncompetitive ,rental and grandparent cars .... Yes they were die-hard reliable and lasted a long time but compared to the competition... they were half assed
If you want to relive what they were like brand new, you can still drive them today in beamng drive. xD
@@jwalster9412Ha the Bruckell LeGran. My favorite
Kia makes a SV6 now.
Holden also had an SV6 trim level for the Commodore. Interesting to see how these alphanumeric terms are re-used.
I would say all of their EVs are the most un unique at least these cars had some kind of personality
At least you can easily tell a Hummer and Silverado EV apart
I found your video in GM badge engineering at it led me here. In 2014 when I first got my drivers license, my father gifted me a 2006 Cadillac STS for my first car. To say it was a nice car would be an understatement. As a teenager that 15 speaker sound system, well, I have never heard anything like it since. As far as power was concerned, I had the fastest car in the high school parking lot and it was essentially just an old person car lol. This video has made me feel so much nostalgia and you have definitely earned my subscription mate.
Really nice video great editing

I had a 1991 Buick Skylark Custom, with the same interior and 3.3 v6 engine. I loved it like it was. Don't need a floor shifter in a car like that. Tho the car was smaller, it rode and drove like a big Buick. Mine had the nice Buick factory alloy wheels. That burgundy velour interior was nice. Now I have a 2009 Buick Lucerne CXL. I love my bigger Buick.
what junk yard was that ? I hae her twin sister 2.5 L Iron dude needing to upgrade !
It was the Pick-A-Part Barlow Trail in Calgary, AB.
Did you take the books from it?
I removed everything after the accident. Sadly, it never had the owner's manual.
@@SomethingAboutCars aw
It may seem low on horsepower but they had to de tune the engines so the transmissions would not burn up . That was the first gen Tranz . I have the same exact car it is very preppy , where is the car located ? …I see a part I could use
It's in Calgary at the Pick-n-Pull yard (Barlow Trail). I'm not certain it's still there, though; they get rid of their old stock a bit too regularly.
Thanks for the engine info. When they put the 4.9 into a concept car, they got 275 hp out of it, so the engines have potential. It's a shame the production versions couldn't have that much power.
It's not a Hillman..
we still have a 93 coupe de ville we use as a daily driver...
Thank you for sharing this video. That is a loaded 1992 Ninety Eight. I own a 1996 Ninety Eight loaded. They made upgrades and changes in 1994 model year. The grille was changed, the instrumentation panel, the door trim panels were upgraded in 1994, the 3800 V6 was upgraded in 1995 model year, and seats were redesigned in 1994. The power adjustments went up to 8 way. They took the lock trunk cover off in 1993 unfortunately. I miss that. I like the color on this one. It was one of the colors I wanted. Mine is a dark green gray. When they stopped making the Ninety-Eight after 1996 model year, they took the grille, the seats and the interior and put them on the Eighty Eight and had a model called Oldsmobile Regency. It last two years( 1997-1998 model years). Thank you for sharing. The Eighty Eight shared a lot of parts with the Ninety-Eight. You explained the difference. I saw the other Oldsmobiles in the background.
I've always wanted one of these. I had an Eighty Eight, which is close enough I guess. Does yours have the digital instrument panel?
@@SomethingAboutCars Yes, it has digital gauges and more. It is a loaded Series II. You should locate you a loaded 1991-1996 Ninety Eight or very loaded Eighty Eight or a 1997-1998 Regency. They offered digital gauges on the 1992-1994 Eighty Eight LS. I have seen it. If you look for a loaded 1995-1996 model, look for a series two Ninety Eight as the digital gauges are standard along with the memory seats,
I love those downsized Caddys...... Good job on the video!
Ta lampa nie ma uszczelki tak jak oryginał bedzie woda ciekła
Perfecto
Thanks for the video. I had a similar problem and bought an after market one from ebay. The problem was that the ebay light was completely straight with no curve to it. When I screwed it in there was so much tension that the thread stripped and one end popped out. Just wanted to check if the OEM product has a slight curve to it to follow the shape of the tailgate panel.
I love the wire wheels on the black BMW
Good quality car & designed, c’mon a quality paint job cost more than the car is worth. Only model worth fixing up is the 16V but yeah thats another story.
I bought one of these (190E 2.6) new in 1989. Absolutely loved it. Was really sorry to give it up at the end of the lease. In many respects, I have not had another car that I liked as well since then. Fun to see it again!
205/55 tires wouldn't hurt
I really wanted to get 16" Monoblocks with 225s :D
Baby Benz
Wonderful car
