You are incredibly heavily biased against wands and heavy wands. But yes, in random encounters Serena with a spear is definitely better. But with your mindset, the only character you should ever be using in random encounters is Erik with boomerang; all the other characters are useless. For example, if you build Veronica with Heavy Wands properly you can get a lot of Echo + Spell Crits, resulting in absurd damage.

A couple points: *Spears are so much stronger than claws that Hard Claw doesn't outdamage Multfeet/thrust until you start feeding her seeds to max her strength. *Flashback has use in the final trial. She solos one of the harder fights by just countering the adds while she focuses on killing the "bosses".

*commenting on a year old video* One thing to factor in with the Hero ( and Jade to a lesser extent) above everyone else is his unique equipment. Hero getting back 20 MP at the beginning of wveey turn makes him really efficient in longer dungeons. Falcon slash turns into a better normal attack when you're gaining resources as you use it. His magic becomes solid, cheap chip damage to help push fights into one tuen kills

Quite the illuminating guide. Would u say that whip Veronica is worth respeccing into, in uhh late Act 1? I'm before Sniflheim and I saw screenshots of Twin Dragon Lash outputting 400, I just wish Sylvando has that skill too.

Erik managed to win the final battle of Act 2 for me. And he was my last party member standing!

Jade is one of my strongest party members thanks to Re-Vamp. But her charm skills are useless.

Ahhh the Twin Dragon Lash Casino Gringham Whip combo. The age old dragon quest tradition that bends the series over and literally gives it an ass whipping.

The Grey Gordon was such a mean fight when I first fought him. My party was around level 53 when I encountered him and he just kept on spawning minions and then buffing them so I had to go through about seven turns before my party could act. I ended up spamming kasnooze to win the fight since it shuts down a lot of his minions

Where do you strength seed farm in act 3?

Honestly sylvando’s showmanship and lithness are pretty much the only things I put points in save for knives to get the juggling skill and persecuter and victimizer due to his ability to spread those status effects with his charm abilities and dances. An especially favorite ability of mine is pied piper because with how high his charm can be raised you’ll be able to have an enemy fighting their own Allies more often then not. And his abilities having such a visual jester flair to them really just makes them especially fun to use

8:50 the name is probably Oiseau Rare, which is Français for "rare bird." Fom what I remember is a bit of French tongue in cheek understatement, to call something incredibly bizarre or flambuoyant.

Trying to get a Dragon Horn at this point isn't worth the trouble, unless you're an extreme masochist. What really grinds my gears is the FAQ I was using doesn't even have a strategy for getting it; it just assumes you have one before fighting the next boss.

Great video as always. Replaying again after many years…as far as claws vs spears…you mention how much better claws are (example hardclaw is 3.6x damage vs multithrust 3x damage). But aren’t you overlooking this is offset probably entirely by spears being a higher damage output that claws? Lets say default damage for example with spear attack is 100 and with claw its 80, multithrust will hit for 300 vs hardclaw 288

I followed all your advice on every character except I went with spears on Jade. Kind of confused on your obsession with claws on Rab, considering there’s really only one ability you seem to care for and you actually seemed to like a few of the unlocks from heavy wands

I've been marathoning a bunch of FF playthroughs to familiarize myself with the whole series. This vid brought me to a conclusion: Most turn-based JRPG's, particularly early era, aren't too fun or even interesting as videogames. What people playing early FF were hungry for, was any feeling of interaction with a certain story and nice artwork.

Great character series. Its funny listening to you say “x” character is the best damage dealer in the game, which you did for like 3 characters lol 😂

The Hell Sabre is very useful, I'd argue. You get it long before the only two swords that are actually better, and at +3 it's as strong as the Dynamo Dagger and stronger than literally any boomerang. Plus you need a sword to use Fatal Flash, Erik's strongest move beside Double Down. Swords are better than knives as a result, seeing as the "strongest" knife move is Assassin's Stab, which we both agree is crap. EDIT: I'm ignoring Persecutter and Victimizer because they require setup unlike his best moves. I can definitely understand why someone would choose the Frostfire Fingers or Deicimators over the Xenlon Claws. Does that mean the Xenlon Claws are crap? I wouldn't go that far, personally. I like the charm boost, even if it's kinda piddly for that point in the game.

Whips really are that crazy lol. I suggest using wands and investing SP into the vim tree until you can get enough skill points back from rectification to immediately get the whip attack boosts so you can avoid the low amount of damage whips do early on. I still need to test if it's better to use whips or spells with wands when you get Channel Anger as you can get it before Oomphle. I've only gotten through most of Act 1 in the playthrough I am using her with whips so I'm yet to see if they still hold up in Act 3 without seed grinding but I doubt they will since she gets a lot more magical might than strength through her level ups, her expanded skill tree can give a total of 90+ magical might which is more than the +65 attack, and her best armor boosts magical might

This is the best place to grind for strength. Also my favorite area

...why I grind the Casino for that powersword

Costa Valor has a rarified Slime Knight (which is really hard on stronger enemies if you're not heavily seeded up at this point) and Killer Krillers that show up on the beach at night. I like coming to Puerto Valor early because the casino rewards are really good. Take a time out to grind a few hundred k tokens on the slot machines, and grab that Platinum Powersword for the hero (makes the Octagonia tournament MUCH easier), a Platinum Sword for Erik and/or Sylvando, and a Lightning Lance for Serena (maybe a second one for Jade too). Unlike a real Casino, this one stacks the odds slightly in your favor, so as long as you start out with enough tokens to ride out a few spins of bad luck, you'll eventually win more than you lose. The reason you probably remember the Casino being closed is that it doesn't open until noon, so if you get there in the morning, the doors are locked.

To get the cat suit you have to go back and forth between the two merchant brothers, and they'll keep underbidding each other lower and lower until you can buy it for 1k. Paired with the cat hat you can buy in the armor shop, it's a cute outfit for Veronica, and also the cat suit is a pretty decent upgrade at this point in the game, although it mostly buffs her casting stats, won't help much for whips (the defense is good if you rework it though). They have some other unique items they'll get in a bid war with each other over in acts 2 and 3, as well. It's kind of funny, but also annoying to run back and forth between them 10 times.

Jade is a LADY.

The "event" is a bit overrated, seeing how little time you get with her.

I like this build for Veronica, but I think it would be fun to grab Hit the Hay first so she can put things to sleep for Erik to use Persecutter

I'm definitely using whips. I love Veronica as a caster. In fact I love offensive attacking mages in all games, but I'm totally ready to try out new stuff with these characters. I'm excited to do try out Jade with claws as well.

Hey, just wanted to say I am really enjoying your ironman and playing my own side by side. Was curious if you would ever go back and finish this?

I LOVE using Sylvando for boss fights in act 3 and only really buff his charm and agility. Hes got top tier support with low tier damage so put him in with Veronica and Jade. Veronica saps, Sylv Oomphles Jade and Jade either hardclaws or multi thrusts depending on if the enemy has naturally high def or low def respectively. Then you can just keep giving Sylv’s turn to Jade while Veronica keeps up Oomphle on herself and Jade, keeps sap going and twin dragon lashes when available. Depending on the fight I use Hendrick, Serena or Hero in the last slot.

Not gonna lie, I actually use leg sweep a lot when I'm fighting a group of enemies ir if it's a small group but the enemies are bigger/heavy hitters.

Jade’s just a powerhouse no matter how you build her. One thing about Sexy Beam is that it also ignores defense and if you build her for charm instead of crit, her “hit all” abilities as well as sexy beam hit like a semi truck. Still though, she competes with Sylvando for charm gear so I like having her on crit duty with hardclaw, especially against low defense targets. Also, late game Sylvando gets ladies first which makes her a beast on boss fights. Any time Sylvando doesn’t have to heal or support he can just give Jade another turn to pulverize the enemy. This works really well with her revamp.

I cheesed it and used a revivify and a maidens kiss on his first form. Once you destroy the first form he's dead. I've beaten the game several times the real way. I took a shortcut
