    It depends on the season and function a lot more than covering = modest. Just be pretty unto honor as you fit in the best you can without making it a bunch of can and can'ts. Modesty is a heart attribute like joy and peace are, that isn't attained by outward adornment. I've known too many up and ups fully covered to think that modesty is a covering. Modesty is synonomous to humility and yet covered people show off their coveredness just as much as uncovered people show off their uncoveredness. Both are immodest in my opinion. Those that fit in are more modest imho regardless if that means uncovering more or covering up more. Walk in love toward your neighbor and you fulfill the whole law. That includes modesty. So if covering wouldn't be loving, don't cover. If uncovering wouldn't be loving don't uncover. That way of living is much different than checking the boxes of coverings to attain a "modest" look that you can be proudful of, that's more covered than others which makes them not as modest as you which increases pride in you. That's not modesty. I'd rather people just came up with outfits that looked good for season and function and left off their own opinion of modesty rules and instead lived by an assurance of salvation and a love that others could feel. Love Jesus Christ and love others and you'll do well. ❤

      because of the verse that says a woman shouldn't wear a man's clothes.. Deut. 22. [5] The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

However, there were distinctions in style, length, and adornment that set them apart, reflecting cultural customs of dress and modesty. Men typically wore a tunic that was simpler and shorter, often girded about the waist with a belt. This allowed them ease of movement, particularly for labor or travel. An example of men's clothing can be seen in 1 Samuel 24:4, where David secretly cuts off a piece of Saul's robe. Women's robes, on the other hand, were generally longer and might have been more elaborately decorated, reflecting their role and status within the household. These garments often included veils or additional coverings. In Proverbs 31:22, the virtuous woman is described as making "coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple," highlighting the beauty and craftsmanship often associated with women's garments. Deuteronomy 22:5 also provides insight into cultural distinctions in dress, as it states, "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God," underscoring the importance of preserving gender distinctions in attire. Thus, while the basic structure was similar, societal and cultural norms dictated the differences in style, decoration, and purpose between men's and women's robes.” “Cultural norms dictated differences in style” Ig our culture norms in western U.S is dresses for women and pants for men originally. But they do make women’s pants now😅 and in other cultures men wear dresses and skirts or kilts. Thats why in conclusion I just wear whatever I want as long as it’s modest.

    As a muslim girl, I totally agree with you sister <3 Muslim women look up to the Virgin Mary, she is an exemplary woman in Islam, and a whole chapter was dedicated to her in the Quran. I think when in doubt, practicing christian and muslim women should ask themselves : "Would Mary wear this?" If it's a no, then maybe avoid it. The best items are long sleeve shirts, and maxi skirts (without slits of course!), or maxi dresses (without slits).

When we dress modestly, it reveals the hidden beauty of a godly character, and honors the Lord, as well as our husbands or future husbands. Ladies, our bodies are treasures worth protecting! ❤

    I can say as a man that you are right on about modesty. It is about both the heart and the appearance. On a side note, even modestly speaking, I actually love to see girls and women wear dresses, because not only do they tend to look perfectly modest when they go as far as the ankles, but they also are totally feminine compared to pants. From a totally natural and modest standpoint I love to see girls and women be completely feminine with their appearance besides how much they respect their God given roll. I also want to see boys and men be just as masculine in all the right ways as I want to see girls and women be feminine. On the part about modesty in attire one main reason why I believe girls and women need to be mindful about not only how they posture and position themselves but also how they dress at all times is mainly because there are a number of boys and men out there who easily feel lust by what they see. Some are more vulnerable in this sin than others and are a lot more apt to remember it and to even remember how it made them feel at that very moment than others are. Though there are a lot of spiritual reasons with the part of a male whenever this does happen and though most males period are wired to the most visual of them and females, one reason that a certain number of males are more vulnerable in this area is because some males have higher than normal testosterone levels, therefore the urge to not be distracted from their current task by something they see (such as bare legs or bare legs in a certain kind of skimpy dress and footwear) is going to be harder for these males. Believe it or not, even children can feel lust, not just adults. So it isn't just about how you dress around men but even how you choose to dress around little boys perfectly fits what Matthew 18:6 says.

      @jdbishop I'm a woman, and I'm trying to understand what you're saying in the first half of the third paragraph. Maybe some wording got a bit mixed up? I'm not sure, but I'm not quite following the thought and I'd like to understand what you were saying. I find it interesting to hear from a man on this topic of modesty. I have worn dresses and skirts all my life, and was raised to be modest in all areas, positioning, behavior, dress etc. I'm finding your view of ankle length dresses\skirts interesting and it's recently been something I've been pondering even though I wear mine well below the knee past the calf. The concern is wearing ankle length at home as a busy mother and wife and needing to climb stairs and carry items as it is rather difficult to try and hold up the skirts at the same time so as not to trip or fall.

      ​@@crazychicken4063 Ankle length should be no problem to tripping over yourself on any steps or any other situation. It is full floor lengths that you would have to worry about in that kind of case. If the dress or skirt is loose and wide enough around in the right kind of degree there is no reason it should be a problem. The only exception might be tall and steep steps that you might have to climb for whatever reason. Then if you have to lift your garment to climb or descend on such steps then by all means that should be no problem as long as you don't have to carry anything up or down them that requires two hands to hold it. Plus when I say ankle length I am suggesting that at least a garment should go to the very tops of the ankles. If the garment goes to the top of the ankles, then as long as it is wide enough around at the bottom there is no reason one should ever have to worry about stepping on it and causing a fall. Though some modesty conscious Christians might suggest that to the knees or bottom of the knees is adequate enough for God standard of modesty, from all of my life's experiences with what I've ever seen and from any times that I ever felt any lust from any of what I saw, I would argue that God actually wants us to cover to the ankles instead. The reason that makes more sense is because, especially with one-piece garments, even if it goes to the bottom of your knees, you can still risk exposing yourself to those in front of you if you are not careful with how you bend or crouch down like for any reason besides how you sit and position your legs like as well. Little girls have always been the most perfect examples of how true this this. Also the legs at a whole are a visually erogenous zone. The bottom half not near as much as the upper half (the part that is above the knees), but all of the leg when any of it is exposed has a way of signaling the message of nakedness to the eyes of others, whether it gives them any lust or not. Plus exposing only the bottom half of the legs has a way of kind of looking silly on the part of the legs anyway, especially when they are bare. So if you had to expose any of your legs then it would look better if you exposed a large portion of them at once since the knees and thighs add the biggest character to them, but why risk exposing them at all and causing anyone else (child or adult) to stumble? Again even though they are more so this the farther you go up them the legs as a whole are a visually erogenous zone. Beauty can be presented without exposing any flesh below the neckline and from wearing respectable fabric and patterns in respect to what also constitutes modesty.
